How to swap Z3 with Z3 compact? - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
Sorry if that is a stupid question but I'm still fairly new to the android world.
I want to swap phones with my mum. I have Z3 compact and she have Z3.
Can we use PC Companion to backup the data from both phones and restore Z3 backup to compact version and vice versa?
If not do you recommend any free app to transfer all data to pc and then send them to the other device (hopefully including apps)?
Thank you all in advance,
Blaise

I'd suggest using Helium - App Sync and Backup. I've never used that app since I have root, but I've heard it's pretty good and for a new user like you, this might be useful.

I don't want to be rude, but.... LOL.
1. He's "still fairly new to the android world". Good luck with understanding those messed up instructions how to root our Xperias for a such user.
2. What if he knows hot to do it but has Lollipop? Wouldn't he lose the data during the rooting procedure? He'd have to revert to KitKat which isn't compatible with Lollipop /data partition contents

Use easybackup from Google play

[Q] Rooting C5303?

Hello xda
first time and non-english poster here, but I'll do my best, so please be patient with me.
I'd greatly appreciate when someone smarter than me could help me fix my problem:
- Had rooted HTC Desire running LeeDrOiD V2.5.0 FINAL
- Lived happily with lots of apps but wanted new phone
- Made Backup with Titanium Backup
- Bought Sony Xperia SP C5303 (see screenshot of About Phone)
- Noticed that all I can find are discussions on C5302, so I am not exactly sure if I should attempt rooting yet...please bear in mind that I am not a computing prodigy and managed to root the HTC only with a step-by-step-tutorial. The same applies for the Xperia.
- I don't want a different Rom on my new phone, I just want to restore my Titanium Backup.
So I don't need an unlocked bootloader, right?
My question is: what would you do?
Thanks in advance for any help!

you can easily root your device using Doomlord's root method; for both locked and unlocked bootloader. just follow the step-by-step instructions. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2329208
When restoring your titanium backup do not restore system files as this may well cause bootloop.

UPDATE: wow, never thought it would be so easy. We need more people like Doomlord on this planet!
Ok, thanks for your quick answers, I'll try it with Doomlord's method.

[Q] May be simple problem...but I badly need the solution

Hi friends,
Welcome me to Sony Xperia ZR world.
Day before only I bought new ZR.
Previously I used HTC Desire X.
in that mobile I backed up SMS in sd card.
Now my question is how to restore those backed up messages in ZR?
in ZR that file is not openable.

Actually i'm not quite sure on how Desire X (or HTC, in general) backs up their SMS;
but since (i assume) different vendor, different platform in their SMS apk, i think (possibly) your SMS backups won't be able to be restored to ZR.
if you still have your desire X, maybe you want to use cloud-based SMS backup app - works well on restoring SMS messages on different platforms.
I use titanium backup in xml format moved from htc incredible 2 to zr

New to Z1

HI All.
Been a Galaxy S2 user for ages, and took the change to go to Z1 experia.
Now looking to root and om the phone.
I had done this on the GS2 for ages, and knew the process well.
How different is the rooting process on the Z1?
How do we install roms on the Z1, and to root the phone?
Do we flash a kernel with CWM for the Z1?
Any help appreciated,.
Cheers
Glen.

Flashing/Installing a ROM or Kernel in your Xperia X8 is completely different from SIM-Unlocking it. I don´t know where you read that Flashing/Installing a ROM or Kernel would SIM-Unlock your phone. No ROM or Kernel is able to do that. In order to SIM-Unlock your device you need to pay money. There are two methods of doing it, buying a Network Unlock Code or downloading a program, connecting your phone to your PC with your USB Cable an paying for credits to unlock your phone. In my opinion you should go with the USB Cable one since it is cheaper and faster (but a little more complicated). BTW before you ask, there is no way of SIM-Unlocking you phone for free, believe me I have searched.

I don't think he got does Usernames and Passwords in a legal way (Not that i care, i would used them if i was able to). Any way he inst posting any more Usernames and Passwords so that method is useless. Unless you pay for credits, like i said before.
Read this: https://loja.vodafone.pt/homephone/condicoes-de-desbloqueio
If you meet the criteria you can get it unlocked for free.

Installing official firmware again

Hi,
Not sure if I'm in the right place, but I have the Sony Xperia Z and recently got it rooted to the Cyanogenmod, but not quite liking it.
My dislike isn't necessarily the firmware itself, it is that I really like the Sony-made functions, specifically the camera (it's better quality than what Cyanogenmod is giving me)
So my question, if I install the official firmware back onto the phone, is it still rooted? Can I still go into recovery mode, for example?
I see XZDualRecovery on my memory card, as long as I keep it there, will recovery mode work?
If the only way to keep these stuff working is use a custom firmware, then out of the many firmwares out here, which one still uses the Sony features? Which one is actually based on the official firmware?
I see a lot but all the new terms and options out there is just confusing.
Thank you.
Please do not post any thread like this in here. Its A development Thread. Pls read some rules before posting in xda..
And now u r in cm 11. After flashing stock firmware u will lost root and cwm recovery. 100℅. Otherwise download any stock rom and flash it. Pls don't ask which rom is good. All roms r good.
Best regards..
Hi, thank you for your response.
As mentioned, I don't know if I'm in the right place. I just noticed the other sections; I'm happy for moderators to move this to the correct place.
Also, I think you misunderstood my question.
Yes, I know all custom firmwares are good - but I'm asking which one is still using Sony's features? I really want to have the Cybershot quality of photos.
If there is a custom firmware out there, which is it? I ask because it's confusing as I'm new to the various terminologies used here. EG. http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/orig-development/kma-cm-11-101-sony-kernel-blobs-t2708325
Does that mean it's still using all of what Sony offers, then more? Or just meaning this is for Sony phones?
So my concern again is, which custom firmware is still using Sony's features?
If there's none, then thank you for answering my other question - I guess if I decide to go back to the official firmware, I will not have all the features of a rooted phone, which is unfortunate. But i just had a thought, I remember during my initial rooting stage, before installing CFW, it was all rooted and all. Does that mean, if I go back to OFW, then root it again, as long as I don't install a CFW, I can still use the OFW with rooted features? (as in, download superuser and stuff like that to use)
But yes, please, any moderators out there, feel free to move this to the correct section. Sorry.
Well, decided to reinstall the official firmware - will now root it and keep it on the official firmware.
Thank you.
Use flash tool to get back, then root it with towel.
That's it
@bitsnpieces There are some explaination for almost all terminologies in android. here you go
Awesome Orangewanted - thank you for the link.
@K9998 - yep, that's what I did in the end - took some time to get it all working but super happy with what I have now. Also been reading that Sony's 4.4.2 KitKat has problems so I'll probably be on 4.3 for a while, also because it still has some sort of SIM support which I prefer to use...
Use .233 firmware

You can use .233 firmware and flash true Flashtools. I dont see any problems with 4.4.2 Sony Firmware ( not acording to battery drain, but its google fault not Sony ) Here is the link Firmware .233
Awesome! That's exactly what I was looking for (of course, previously had no idea how to do it, but worked it now, and didn't know where to get the stuff I wanted, which now there is).
However, my biggest beef is that, from what I understand, Google removed SIM card support in KitKat? Because my contacts are all on SIM (and though I can save it to card, and then just transfer them over to KitKat contacts, I don't like linking my Facebook and Skype accounts, etc, into my contacts... Thus when I was using Cyanogenmod... Contacts was just a mess), does Sony's KitKat version still support SIM usage (incase Sony worked out a way to keep it working)?
It'll have the Cyber-shot camera which I'm happy about (presuming they kept it in KitKat), but SIM is the next big thing for me...
