So I just installed elementalX kernel on my Nexus 6 here, and then multirom! Coolest mod ever! Anyways, the question here, is what does it mean by usb fast charge when you're in the aroma installer. Is it an option to turn turbo charge on and off? Or is it something entirely different? Thanks!

its something different. it means when you plug into a usb for charging, itll charge faster. normally, it charges much slower via usb than using a wall socket. so it makes it a bit faster.
Awesome! Thanks! You've really helped me a lot these past few posts! Lol

it wont charge as fast as when connected to the wall outlet, but its still faster than a typucal usb port.
Actually the wall charging is unaffected by this mod. Fast Charge only affects USB pc connection, forces 900ma(sometimes more) draw instead of the default 500ma draw, again, only when you are connected to a pc. Wall charging remains unaffected and will charge as fast as it always did whether you have fast charge on or off.

but i never did say that it did affect wall charging. and not all usb connections will see increased speed charging. but the majority of usb ports will

Charging my Nexus 7 is taking over 5 hours via USB.
How long does it take for everyone else, and if this is broken, what is the process to get it replaced ?
Also will Google replace the battery/hardware, if i've changed my ROM ?
Cheers
What kind of usb? wall charger, usb 2 on computer, usb3 on computer?

I won't charge mine via the USB port..takes too long. Top off, is ok. Complete charge...no way. The N7 has a big battery, so I use the AC charger. 5 hours via USB (dead battery ???) doesn't sound too long to me. Most USB devices only charge at some low rate...like 500 milliamps. You should be using, at least, twice that.

Thanks for the feedback.
Obviously, Google/ACER have some improvements to make.

I am charging using a usb 2 cable via a laptop.
Which begs the next question, is charging faster, with any of the above ?
You will get 3 times the current from the stock charger/cable than from a computer's USB port.

Correct. Laptop ports are around 0.5 amps, the stock wall charger is 2 amps
Of course it will charge slow over USB. Plug it into a wall if you can.

Not really its just standard USB charge rates they don't charge as quick as originally are only need a little bit of power for flash drives and so forth. Nothing will charge quick via USB.

Charging through USB is better on the battery.

If you look at your Asus supplied Nexus charger you'll see that it's rated at 2A the N7 will happily draw all of that to charge. A pc or laptop usb2 port can supply a maximum of 500mA, that's only a quarter of what the N7 needs to charge at decent rate and you can damage the usb port by putting too high a load on it. My advice is to charge your N7 via the mains charger and forget trying to use the usb port, get a second charger or a portable battery pack if you need to charge while away from home (see the thread on battery packs in this forum for details)
For reference a usb3 port can output 1A if it's set up to do it.
According to Tom's hardware you are still quick. Their graph says 0-100% on usb, screen off 10 hours.
Anyone notice this? It actually loses charge, faster than it can charge. Using same computer ports as when I had my note 3.
Use the wall plug. A computer does not put out enough
NOTE 4
Using any 2 amp charger I find it charges surprisingly fast. Computer ports usually give you only .5 amps. If you were using a USB 3.0 port and cable with the Note 3 you might have been getting much more juice out of the same port.
Yeah, my computer has USB 2.0 and 3.0. Like I mentioned earlier, my note 3 didn't have any issue. Strange.

You probably had a fast charge enabled kernel .
NOTE 4
Running stock.
Try using the app galaxy charging current to see what it's charging at and if it is the same for both phones.

I noticed this as well and it's a big problem for me as I use the GPS on the phone a lot while driving. I have it plugged into the car's USB but the battery drains very fast.

Gps and navigation software use a lot processing power and the screen stays on all the time, so shouldn't be a surprise that battery goes down fast. In order to keep up with discharging rate you need 2A or more battery charger usb port is not sufficient.

Thanks for the info. I was surprised by this because it never was an issue on my Win mobile phones or iphones. I bought a Qi wireless charger that uses the lighter for power and it seems to be able to keep the phone charged while in use.
hello all! hope this is in the right area. i just recenbtly upgraded to a Nexus 6 form my Nexus 5 on T-Mobile of course and when i plug it up to a regular USB charger it seems as if it's draining the battery. When i use the regular charger it's fine. why is this? maybe a noob question but any help would be greatly appreciated

usb charger doesnt provide enough voltage going in to charge it while you are using it. if you notice, the regular n6 charger charges the phone while putting in nearly 2500mV(n5 only saw 1200mV max while charging). so, if you wont use the device, after hours on tbe charger the usb charge will finally charge it. but if you are using at the same time, more current goes out of the n6 then goes into it.

overnight, you can leave it connected to usb, but yea, use the original charger for a fast charge. now a few kernels do enable fast charge over usb, but itll still be quicker to use the regular wall charger.

thanks bro!
I'm using the "fast charger" that comes with the phone, but it seem to charge slower than I predicted. It says 1 hour until full charge when they phone is at 55%.
Is this right?
did you use the cable that come with the phone?
not all microusb cable can do fast charge.

Yes. I'm using everthing that comes with it.
The next question is.... were you messing with the phone while it gave you that estimated 1 hour left to fully charged? If you have the screen on and doing a lot of crap with it, of course it will take longer (this may be obvious to some, I'm not trying to insult you if you didn't know this, just stating the fact)
My experience with it went like this yesterday - note that I haven't even unpacked the factory charger, was using the Motorola Turbo Charger for this "experiment"
0% (phone died over night off charger to make this test)
30 mins on Turbo Charger - 45%
1 hour on Turbo Charger - 85%
Had to take it off to go to work, but those are some great numbers for a charger not necessarily designed for this phone, but the device was in Fast Charging mode the whole time, of course, so it was comparative
Is there some way to turn on fast charge? Because 6hours to fully charge or even charge a lot I don't have.

Use the fast charger that came with it or the Turbo Charger and it comes on automatically, 6 hours was with me using wireless charging which is always going to be slower than any wired 2+ amp charger will do

Lol I plugged into the the stock charger from the box and it said 6hrs to charge (from 0) switched outlet just incase that outlet was wonky but same result. The I said screw it and just figured I use to wireless charger so at least the phone would be near me, low and behold it says 3hrs (from 0). So apparently wireless is the way to go.

You must have had something else going on with the phone for it to say 6 hours on the factory charger....... I don't remember what mine said because I plugged it in, powered it on, and started watching the clock in the kitchen, turning on the phone screen only to check battery levels at those specific intervals I stated! I didn't even touch the device to start anything when I started this experiment, so it wasn't running any apps other than Android system level stuff, but no, wireless definitely isn't going to be faster, despite what the estimated timer said on the phone!

Well it's charging super quick compared to that factory charger. On the factory charger (plugged in right after phone died) went from 0 to 5 percent in about 25 minutes. on the wireless charger right now its gone from 5 to 16 in under 20 minutes. more than twice as fast.
Aslo, I am using the new Samsung wireless charger that is supposed to support fast charging.
**EDIT**
It charges even faster if I plug it directly into the cable for the wireless charger. Now it says 1hr29mn instead of 2hrs.

Thanks buddy, this worked for me. I was having the exact issue as you.:good:
I had this same issue guys. Make sure your cable is plugged ALL the way into the charger itself. Mine was not in all the way and I was getting super slow charge times.

Make sure the cable is plugged all the way in to the charging brick. If it's not plugged in all the way, even a few mm, it will charge much slower.

I believe the laws of physics dictate that this will happen.
I realize that there are multiple threads on this but my problem is kinda unique. When the phone is powered on fast charging doesn't work, I turn the device off and fast charging is working while powered off. Sometimes it's the other way around fast charging isn't working while powered off and when turned on it is working. I don't think its the usb cable because I have tried 2 different cables. Maybe its the power plug? Gonna try my cousins see if it works when I see him. Till than any other ideas on why this might be happening?
How do you know it's fast charging when not on?
My oem charger went bad after a year and did the same as you description in the op. My bet is you need a new one

It has the lightning icon under the battery. If its not there its not fast charging.
