Gear got too wet and the touchscreen stopped working. Pretty sure it's all dried out. Gear still works great, just can't use the touchscreen. Tried resetting already. Trying to figure out if I should get a new display I found for $20, or if it's the motherboard. Any advice?

Hey guys,
I've had my X1i for a year now. No hard falls most falls are on soft surfaces. & Suddenly today morning woke up & the touch screen isn't responding. So I looked up posts, some said turn it off & turn it back along with removing the battery & it should work fine. Tried that, worked for a bit then stopped working again. Also tried soft-reseting & gave the same result. So is there any other method you guys know ? I'm thinking the other type of reseting..forgot what it's called but that'll delete everything so i gotta back things up first. So any solutions? & thanks in advance.
Have you got a screen protector on it? If so, try lifting the edges of it a little.
Nope, no screen protector. Does it have to do with any .cabs i've installed before ? Or they're not related? Is the battery related? Could it cause something like that?
I once run into the following, it may help you too:
after installing an app(from a cab) my screen was allmost non responsive.
Calibration didn't help.
I have "Advannced config" installed, uppon checkin the sensitivity it was waaaaay down, even under default.
Hope it helps for you too =)
i had the same problem to on my proto x1
it completely stopped working and i tried everything (reflash rom, boot android)
but all without luck so i bought a replacement screen
after a while my touch screen started working again but still occasionally fails
i have not yet replaced my touchscreen, i am thinking about a loose connector or something...
btw i was on official r3 fw

Where is that located? Where can I get a new one?

here is one thread about it, there should be others if you search some more than I did
and this would be a means to get a new one (official site, similar price), if it really is the cause and you don't like to tinker
cheers and gl
If your LCD is working, then it could be bad digitizer like mine instead of the ribbon cable. (Well, I use X1 a lot in humid place like bathroom.....). Just pay a few extra to buy the LCD+Digitizer for about ~$30 that will save you a lot headache for just the digitizer alone. There's a thread in X1 accessories forum.
I've been looking for threads on this topic for some time now. I've seen even one funny thread that said it's good to use TV static on touchscreen to fix it
So, basically my touchscreen stopped working one day. I didn't have time to look at it so for few days I just used buttons to use it. Then it started to work and worked for about a week, and suddenly stopped working again. For about a week, when it started working again.
Then I figured I could just reboot my phone when touchscreen stopped working, and if I took out the battery it magically worked again. But now it won't work so I'm stuck in about 1 week long breaks from my TS.
It's not exactly 7 days, I'm not counting, but it seems to be 6-8 days for each "phase". Now it's quite major inconvenience because last time it worked I changed my alarms and now I have to get up earlier, and Kaiser rings while I'm at work. While other areas of WM6.5 I can usually navigate with just buttons it doesn't work in alarm settings.
I haven't installed anything around the time it started the strange behavior. I don't think it was caused by a fall too, but I can't be sure if it didn't fell back then.
Anyone has ideas for what to do, how to fix it? I read in other thread one could check if TS connectors are tightly connected, but I don't want to open Kaiser to check especially if it's possible that the cause is completely different.
This is a slim chance but worth a try..
Check carefully around the edges of the screen and make sure there's no dirt or anything pressing on the screen.. There's a rubber gasket that's there to keep dirt out but if you get anything under the gasket it will press on the screen making it unresponsive. Take a small piece of thin cardboard and go around it to clean it out.
I had a similar problem and this is what it turned out to be..
Old post but it might help somebody out..
Could it be the metal front housing pressing on the touch screen irregularly?
Should there be a small space in between?
A month ago I ended a call with Verizon custotmer service only to find the touchscreen on my D4 had stopped working. There was no ghosting, no other problems I knew of at the time besides a speaker that wouldn't work. Rebooting didn't work. Factory reset didn't work. The only thing different was that the phone had recently upgraded to Jellybean. Now when the phone is rebooted the WiFi automatically comes on. I could still use it attached to the lap dock, or by using the keyboard to bypass the touchscreen. I switched to my backup phone and searched for answers.
I ended up getting a new-to-me D4 from eBay. I took the slider half of the phone with the screen and switched the whole thing to my D4. Phone
was fixed, seemed to be fine.
Today rooted my phone. All was well until I was playing a game, then again the touchscreen just stopped working. I am at an utter loss, what happened to the touchscreen? Neither one was dropped, both had screen protectors on and were in cases. I was using the phone at the time both times. The picture is clear, screen uncracked. I just can't get it to accept touch input anywhere on the screen. And the WiFi is turning on again when I restart the phone.
I have never seen this happen before on any other phone, I have heated the glass and pressed where the flex cable is in case of a loose connection, nothing happens. Removing the sim and SD cards didn't help either. Any suggestions or fixes? Will replacing the glass again fix it, or should I try a factory reset again? Stock ROM, rooted jellybean, using atrix lap dock to type this.
Hi, I've had thus problem for quite some time now and I'm not really sure what the cause of it is. A while ago I changed the housing of my m7 to gold and since then I've had some problems. At first my charging port started malfunctioning and no longer worked when I plugged it into my laptop. I replaced it and not it works fine but then the vibrating motor stopped working. I replaced that too but it still doesn't work and now my camera and volume button doesn't work either. I thought that maybe if I replaced the daughter board that it would fix those issues so I bought a broken HTC one off eBay and switched the daughter boards. It fixed things for the most part but vibration still doesn't work and apparently the owner was messing around with the Sim card connector on the daughter board and somehow broke the clamp to hold the sim flex cable. So I have no mobile network and it's currently useless to me. Since vibration still doesn't work I can't help but think that maybe it is somewhat a motherboard issue. I'm thinking that maybe some of the connections aren't clean because of how many times I've opened up the phone and touched all over. I'm thinking of getting done isopropyl alcohol to clean it and see if it fixes the issue but first I was hoping that maybe someone could help me out and tell me if it really is a motherboard problem.
Bought a broken phone and used the internals to replace with mine and everything is great. Finally got a camera without people tint.
So I purchased a replacement motherboard a couple of months ago, and then kinda forgot about it. Decided to do the replacement today. The replacement generally went fine, although it was tough to separate the screen/motherboard section from the back. I replaced the motherboard and reconnected everything and rebooted. The phone boots, and everything seems to work, but only the top half of the touchscreen will accept my touch input. The s-pen works everywhere on the screen though. I thought that maybe the connectors weren't seated properly, but after redoing it a few times, it seems like they're fully connected. I tried doing a factory reset that was suggested after a google search, but no luck.
Anyone experience this before and have any suggestions to fix it? I can still use the phone, but I'd like to get the full touchscreen working so I don't have to rely on the s-pen.
EDIT: I guess everything didn't go fine. Now there are a bunch of purple blotches on the screen.
I had a similar issue when i did my motherboard a while ago I had to clean the ribbon cable connector from screen to board with some contact cleaner.......dont remember which connector
