Bought a Tab S2 8" for the kids through a "eBay" site but I discovered that it was the T715 model and not the T710 which I expected it to be.
So now there isn't any 5.1.1 update and I really need multi-user support.
So I could root it to gain multi-user support..
But since I'm not interested in the LTE-part of this tablet, we won't even have a SIM card for it, could I flash a T710 firmware onto my T715 device with Odin, is that possible?
Ping, has no one tried/done this?
All variants should have multi window support out of the box. You can't flash the t710 on the t716 model. Odin will fail as it's a different model.

Not multi window, multi user. I read that 5.1.1 has it but my t715 with 5.0 lacks support for it.

Yes it's possible. But you will likely have to flash a custom t710 rom as said odin will probably reject it.
I saw this thread on how to enable multi user: http://forum.xda-developers.com/cro...l/guide-enabling-multi-user-lollipop-t3064326
I haven't tried it, but it looks like a much better option than flashing an incompatible rom on your 715.

Yup, I am going with that now instead. F*cking retards @ Samsung that A) Dropped multi user in the first place and B) Still has 5.0.2 as latest for this device.
First and last time I bought a Samsung device. It should have had Marshmallow by now.

Just thought I would throw up a thread regarding the gear vr and a custom rom on the note 4.
A few things to note.
I'm using it on my international N910f in Ireland with zero issues
Custom Rom has no issues (Dr Ketan v2)
My DPI is set to 480 and all of the Oculus apps work perfectly without the need of changing their own DPI's in app settings. (I got the feeling it even looked better, but could have been in my head).
Also, I noticed the Oculus Cinema is now picking up all the content on my My Micro SD card. Not sure if was doing it from the start as I was temporarily using the card the gear vr came with. Can make searching for specific videos annoying if you record a lot of videos yourself.

I'm also using a custom ROM (FireKatN4) just fine, although I had to flash a new kernel (N4 TMO AEL Kernel) to get it to work. Info is in the XDA FireKat thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not.../firekatn4v1-4-4-4-tw-anj7-extremely-t2916463

So if I am reading correctly the VR will work on custom roms if the kernel is compliant? I was running stock rooted, wanted to get rid of the lag in the system and went over to SuperStockRom and now after loading the Gear VR software all I get is a blue screen and after 5 seconds it goes to the home screen but with no movements or menus... any ideas?
i'm loving rooted stock at the moment while i use my VR. all that you have to do is flash the latest(or which ever one you prefer) ael kernel in twrp/cwm over whatever rom you are using. no need to setup anything further than that. here's the link for the ael kernel thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...pment/30-november-2014-n4-ael-kernel-t2961240

No because we are using a coustom Rom thats already upgraded
As long as it's a custom rom based on NK4 or later, then it should work perfectly fine. That being said, some people may be using custom kernels based on older versions, which may causes issues.

Since Xposed is only compatible with ARM7 phones on Lollipop I think I will flash the latest stock again which is 4.4.2 for my klte. With Xprivacy there is no problem with security I guess? BubbleUPNP has a module for Xposed that lets me stream audio from phone to Chromecast for apps without Chromecast support.

Imho 4.4.2 is better than lollipop for now. Most mods here aren't updated for lollipop plus xposed is working there and everything is black instead of the ugly white in 5.0. I got my S5 at the end of January and am real happy with it. Not a single problem so far Check my signature to see which is the latest ROM for the G900F. I also highly recommend you to try the kernel I'm on, it's awesome!

Thank you so much. Will be fun to try it out. Knew Xposed supported Lollipop, but had no idea that it was only for ARM7 devices until yesterday That doesn't matter now that I know how bad it performs in Lollipop. I prefer the GUI in KitKat over Lollipop. It's too polished in Lollipop., and I dislike white too. Great to learn that it's a great phone. So far I love it too.
Spent many hours yesterday to get it working with Windows, figuring out how to root and install rescue and trying out roms. Takes some time to getting into it when getting a new phone, and I don't miss the Sony Xperia Acro S.
If you get stuck in bootloop while reverting back to kitkat, flash kitkat modem and baseband and then try flashing the ROM itself. But i think with Odin you just flash PDA (AP) and that's it. Took me a week until i had my phone completely the way i want it xD

If you like to control your TV or air-conditioning and stuff with your phone's infrared blaster, then yes it's better. Latest one doesn't have IR blaster working so you can't control anything with Smart Remote. Technically, latest one built on Samsung's official sources is the 21.09.2014 one. Only issue is with the camera. Sometimes when you open it there are some weird colored lines inside and it lags. Toggling HDR on/off fixes it until you start it up again.
Thanks for the info. Running the latest and cannot connect to my WiFi with it. Got a backup of stock luckily.
I had to forsake Xposed to follow the development of CM. 4.4.2 works fine, but following the forefront of the development was hard to resist.

Hello to everyone!
A couple of days ago a leaked MM beta firmware for the international variant of the SGS5 (G900F) was received as an OTA update by one lucky guy from Ukraine.
Since then he managed to make a TWRP backup and share it with us.
The only problem was that when flashed it would make the phone enter in a bootloop because the Bootloader (BL) was missing.
Also root was harder to achieve since the old methods seemed not to work on this build.
The developer thread for this ROM is located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/development/samsung-s5-sm-g900f-6-0-1-official-t3311188
To keep it clean from various questions I thought it was a better idea to make this thread for the normal users so we can share low-level informations about that topic without interferring with the devs discussion.
Hope you will join me here in the discussion.
Thank you everyone!
Thanks. People said rude comments about me. I was only curious. Here is better to talk.

OK, I must say I'm a little disappointed by what I've seen in that leaked firmware.
At the same time I think that all the good changes are "under the hood".
Doze is OK and I think the UX will be smoother from what I've seen in other MM firmwares from LG and Sony.
Unfortunately the "Themes" engine is missing. It would have been cool to have it.
Anyone knows if in the leaked fw the shoot RAW option is available in the Camera app?
EDIT: the guy who received the update confirms that battery life is better and that the per-app-permission feature is present. So the "under the hood" tweaks exist
Ah very nice. This is a nice thread to discuss things. Does anyone know if a bootloader can be flashed by TWRP or is Odin necessary?
And guys, please stop attacking each other. It gives any thread a negative vibe. I could not care less if anyone finds himself a dev or not.

I have read a post by Tamirda or Geiti this firmware would be excellent base to build a S6 rom. Maybe that would be the true power of this firmware?
I'm disappointed about this update too. Nothing changed except icons :/
I don't understand why they didn't adapt GS6 UI on our GS5. Is just graphical effects, I don't think it's complicated to change xD.
I will try anyway this beta leaked but If the final version won't bring features like GS6 UI or Themes, I'll say bye bye to sammy

The TWRP recovery has the option to backup the BOOT partition so I believe that we can also flash a different boot backup as long as it's compatible with the phone
In the same time the BL is usually included in the single tar file that we use when flashing a stock fw via Odin.
So in the end I think it depends on how the release will be packed: either as flashable zip via TWRP or as a .tar file flashable via Odin.
The important part is that the new BL to be included
I also prefer 6.0 based on st. Not to look like s6

I think it would make an excellent base to build a clean MM firmware for the S5.
I'm staying on stock-based ROMs because I need the camera-quality.
In AOSP builds the camera quality is poorer and there are also some TW-based-goodies missing.
The Themes-engine would have been a nice addition just because we get tired of the same UX and that was a chance for us to change it without flashing custom ROMs or using 3rd party launcher.
But if it's missing it will not be a deal-breaker for me.
I'm looking forward to that Doze feature.
Just imagine how a MM barebone stock-based ROM for the S5 would fly!
Also the battery life would be better.
I have high hopes with this firmware.
With a little patience, tweaks and luck we could expand the life of the SGS5 for another year until the SGS7 will become cheaper.
So now devs can make finally a good kernel for s6/note5 6.01 MM port rom..with the s5 6.01 kernel...
I posted on the official thread by mistake and will ask here. Does this work on G900W8 also? I was able to run pre-release 5.0 last year when it was just for G900F, but that was already bundled into a ROM. I know the devs will be working on getting the code into roms, but was just wondering

Hi, mate! From what I've read the only difference seems to be the bands.
Apart from that the ROMs seem to be compatible except the fact that you can't flash them via Odin.
You need to flash them as .zip from a custom recovery.
So if the ROM will be packed as a flashable .zip file you are in luck
Here is the link to the thread from where I got these informations: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2714132&page=3

Isn't battery optimization the same with Doze mode which we have on the current, latest firmware? Google introduced battery optimization a.k.a. Doze mode on Marshmallow while Samsung had it on Lollipop since Note 4 and rolled out to other devices like the S 5.

It honestly isnt that great. It certainly works but loses that buttery smooth glide when browsing android store and such. Unfortunately trying to add it to the stock rom caused boot loops for me as well. Guess xposed is out for me.
The only rom I haven't tried is the cynogen mod listed. I still have version 9 on the xoom?. Served me well for root. Even then stock with root was better in my opinion. Honeycomb and ICS. The good old days. Now its this touch whiz crap. ug
I loved swapping roms with my first tablet motorola xoom. A new version to try every week. Not so for this tablet. So I've chosen to live without expose or whatever slight variation of settings is offered from the others. No offnse to the creators. Any option is better then none. The best rom so far is the first one I flashed to get root, t810_cf-autoroot_5.1.1 found below. I'm still using it.

We can't even begin to think about custom Nougat Roms until ATT releases a Nougat update. Even then we'd have a problem with creating something the kernel would accept.

Okay 1. This is the S5, not the S4 and 2. Basically every edition of the GS5 EXCEPT OURS can be flashed with a custom ROM, due ot the nature of our locked bootloaders (thanks AT&T), we cannot flash ANYTHING that doesn't use the stock AT&T kernel.
That means:
No Custom Recovery
No AOSP/AOKP/RR/etc
No Custom Kernels
Sorry mate, you seem to be out of luck :/

I'd love to see the thread that you got that from... right now the only way we'd be able to get anything custom would be if we are able to get this Secure Boot CVE to work.
Also, loki is for the GS4, not the S5. The Galaxy S5's firmware is based off something different, and I'm pretty sure that loki vuln was patched long before the Galaxy S5 even came out.
