Over the past month I've noticed the Android OS reporting extremely high data usage, last month it was at 403MB, the previous it was 146MB and the month before that it was at 60MB. This month after a week, Android OS Usage is at ~60MB.
Based on the screencap of last month, it is definitely not removed apps nor tethering that led to the increase. What could it be? Where could I look to figure out the cause?
From what I know, this can be caused by google backup when it backs up your data to the cloud. Go into settings and then into backup and reset and turn off the backup my data option. See if that is the cause.
The downside will be no backups though.

Hi
I currently have a 200meg per month plan, in NZ we dont have the beauty of massive data plans. Anyway this has been fine for the past 4 months of my N1 but lately as I keep upgrading ROMs I seem to be using more and more.
For some reason on RoDrIgUeZsTyLe ROM I was geting random 40meg blocks for no reason which stuck out when I was only averaging 5 to 10meg per day. I am now on Cyanogen RC3 and still get the odd 5 to 10 meg block.
Just last night I turned everything off, email, twitter, facebook and so on and still I downloaded 3meg and uploaded 3meg using 6 meg of my usage according to 3G Watchdog. Looking in spare parts / batery history / networkwork usage apparently nothing displayed in there used it.
Is there any other app that can tell me what is using my data?
Thanks
Not much for this function, its a badly needed app. If spare parts doesn't show it then I don't know what you could use...
It sure, I dont mind upgrading my plan, I am just more annoyed that I have to upgradefor some unknown process that is using my data. If I knew what it ws and it was usefull then I wouldnt mind.
It was another 8meg of usage last night and everything is reading basically 0 in the battery history.

Hey, I'm using camcory's CM10 on my Galaxy Exhibit (the old kernel version). I just received a text message from Bell that I'm at 90% of my monthly usage (resets on the 7th on each month). I have the data usage set to warn me @ 80% and disable data @ 100%.
Strange thing, when I look at my data usage, the last time it recorded info is April 19th. I can select older months to see what my data usage was for those cycles, but it isnt showing the current usage cycle at all - May7th-June7th isn't even an option.
Is there a way to reset the data usage app, or any tips on how I can dig in to see why it is stuck in April?
Thanks!
Joel
Posted in the General section, thought it might get a response here..

Hello,
I am having problem with Google services and Android OS consuming around 30 to 50 MB per day, and that started just recently, maybe 30 days ago.I cannot recall, but i am pretty sure before it was, maybe, 1 MB per day for both, at most!I was on stock rom and I am pretty moderate user, meaning I have at most 5 or 6 applications.Backup to Google servers was disabled from start and still is, and I am syncing only mails, contacts and calendar.I tried with factory reset without any application I usually use, but the issue persist.
This was all on stock rom, then I rooted, unlocked phone and installed Cyanogen mod 10.1.2, and well..., same thing is still happening.Btw, my monthly plan is 400 MB, which is quite enough for my needs, but not with those insane drainings from this 2 services though.
Anyone help is very appreciated.Thanks!

As this is not specific to our device, but is actually a problem with Android itself, you're better off using Google to search.
This could be caused by Google's location services as I've seen that before, but search Google and see what comes back.
Hi,
I hope I'm in the right place for this.
My partner uses a Nexus 6.
Last night she started getting messages from her carrier about data usage.
Going from 30% to 100% in a few hours.
I checked the data usage and the hotspot had used nearly 4gb even through she never switches it on.
I've done a quick search to see if any of the apps she downloaded from play store are potential malware or viruses or are associated with malware/viruses and nothing turned up.
She doesn't download apps from outside the playstore or go to suspect websites.
Could there be any other reason for the sudden data usage or is it definitely a case of an infected app being installed?
I haven't done for a while, 2013 to be precise, but I intend on flashing the phone with the last version of Nougat once I read up on doing it and may look at puting Lineages on it.
Thanks,
Chris
