Currently running unofficial CM13, but this issue has occurred on CM12.1 as well.
Every time I try to download the app, the actual download completes but the notification "Installing Facebook" just sits there forever. When I go back into the Play Store, the notification goes away, but the app isn't installed. It also causes any other downloads to lock up until a couple minutes have passed.
On CM12.1, it would download and install, but the installation process would take ~5 minutes.
I'm figuring it's probably an issue with the app itself, but I was just curious to see if anyone else is having this problem.
I face this problem quite often. Even updating the app is a hard task for me now. It either would take ages or doesn't install at all.
I don't know what could be the reason behind it but try keeping the play store window just as it is after touching the install button. It works for me at times. While the window is changed, it never installs.
Have the same. Installed FB lite.
same problem i have rooted stock rom. i thought that problem is due to download manager, my thread is also there at xda http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/help/change-stock-download-manager-t3252514
have the same problem, doesn't have an answer, but for me it became worse with CM13. on CM12(.1) it was just as you described, but now it slows down the whole phone, rendering it useless. I suspect it runs out ot memory.
Please post here, if someone has a solution

I think it's the app itself. Facebook probably hasn't optimized it for 6.0 yet.

It's not available in my country. Go USA, haha. Not really though.
Had the same problem. Downloaded the APK from APKMANIA and installed. It's working fine now.
Hope it helps!
I've had a similar problem, the issue was that I installed FB Messenger app before the Facebook app itself. Uninstalling both and then installing Facebook first, Messenger second fixed it for me.

They both seem to take a while to install. Probably because Facebook installs 300+ MB worth of data.

I have rooted captivate. since yesterday I can't download or update anything from market. It keeps saying 'starting downloads' and happens nothing. Even sometimes it says your item will be downloaded but again happens nothing.
I use black market too. Does it make my 'market' fail now? I don't have a clue...please help me.
Hey try re flashing the rom you have and see if that works, its worked for me before.

Make sure the Google Talk services are running.
Steps to try:
1) Clear market data, retry downloads.
2) Depending on the rom you are on, Froyo build, you may not have a unique Android ID. If this is the case, download Android ID Changer and change the ID to something other than seen. Next time you flash stock, get your unique Android ID and write it down so you can use in the future.
Good luck.
I didn't get Froyo yet, and I just rooted in order to get the permission of installing apps freely. so I didn't do anything with roms. And I realized that Google talk is not working. I never played that app becuase I'm using kakaotalk. It says signing in...but nothing happens. How can I erase maket data then. I think I should have study more before rooting. How does goolge talk running related to market?

Both the market and Google talk use this service called
Google Talk Service (or something like that)
If you use a program that blocks startup programs make sure both google talk and its service are greenlisted. In addition try to stop using any task killers to see if that is the problem.
And the massage "Sorry! The process com.google.process. gapps has stopped unexpectedly. please try again." comes out from time to time with 'force close' button.
What does it mean?

I think it is tied to GMail sync which is also tied to the Google Talk service I believe.
I uninstalled apps have chances auto killing that process. They are one click lag, auto killer memory, but nothing changed after rebooting. Even the same error message came out as soon as rebooted. The odd thing is that that task is still running when i check with android hackers. How can I control the start up apps?

Oh my Gosh!! I love XDA developers friends!! Thanks diablo, nbs !! I just found out other thread with same issue and fixed beautifully my captivate.
Here is what I did. I downloaded google talk services apps from here, and copy them to systems/app, and reboot. They are automatically downloading all the accumulated failed downloading after rebooting. I might have deleted some gtalk related apps by mistake. Hooray!!
Thanks all!!

No problem! The same thing happened to me a while back because I accidentally startup audited the service.
i cant seem to make this work for me? but I am having the same problem..
I've had my VZW Moto X for a week now and I'm having trouble with the Hangouts app. Every so often when I bring up Hangouts to read a new message, it'll pop up for a brief moment then kick me back out to my homescreen. Then will continue to do so every time I try to open the app back up until I restart my phone. I've tried clearing cache, app data, uninstalling updates, but nothing fixes it without a reboot... at least not consistently. And to top it all off... because Hangouts came preinstalled, I can't completely uninstall it to try a fresh install. This has happened at least once every other day since I've gotten this phone. I was running Dalvik until yesterday when i switched to ART. Happens using both. I used Hangouts on my 2013 Moto X without ever an issue. Any suggestions?
Strange. I had hangouts fc on me once. Today actually. But it was only once and worked fine afterwards. I refuse to update to the new hangouts. They ruined it
I had the same issue for the first day or two, then the force closing stopped.
Same here but rebooting clears it up

reboot
Had this issue like 3 or 4 times on VZW as well. Only way to open the app to send a text was to reboot, very annoying...latest verzion of hangouts.
Still having this issue. Really annoying.

So I found a quicker fix than restarting the phone. If Hangouts force closes, I open the stock android messaging app for just a moment. Then, once I've backed out of it, Hangouts magically works again without a reboot. Don't know why it works... but it does... at least on my device.
I really wish I could figure out what is causing this issue... It happens at least once a day and nothing seems to be a fix that works every time.
It seems to me that every time Hangouts force closes initially, I get a notification from the Play Store for an app update. Also, when it force closes, usually Messaging will start force closing as well if I try to open it. So incredibly frustrating...

Agree fully. I have not been able to associate it with anything but it happens daily. Drives me insane.
I'm tempted to do a factory reset, but I'm afraid I'll go through all the trouble to reset everything and it'll continue to happen. Are you using the stock launcher or something else?

I'm using the Google Experience Launcher. The fact that more people aren't complaining about it leads me to believe it must be some weird conflict between a couple apps/Google services.

Yeah I need to try and remember to get a log next time I see it.
It just happened again! I really think it's somehow tied to Play Store Update notifications. Any time I'm actively using Hangouts and it crashes, I will then immediately get a notification that I have one or more updates available in the Play Store. How could these two be connected and what can I do to sever this connection? I sideloaded the updated version of the Play Store... maybe uninstall updates?

Yeah and I was finally able to do some digging. It's actually tied into contacts somehow, which I never had noticed before. When hangouts is auto-closing so will people, phone, and generating a new text message. Basically anything looking for contacts. Still not sure why though.
I think that for some reason it's tied to Play Store notifications. I've also had Hangouts crash while sending a MMS picture message. Don't know if these crash instances are related.

It's not tied to Play Store. I have no updates pending and I'm looking at the logcat.
Just go to app info and clear the data
It should work on most cases
when ever I get a phone call I get a contact force close
Me too.
Same here!

Same here. I even cleared the data for the contact storage and contacts thru the apps setting and it did not fix it.
Another me too. Doesn't happen every to be (I don't think...), but does happen.
Same here man! All ouuta nowhere!
I'm having the same issue. Not every time but I notice it when somebody calls me. Are any of you rooted on a debloated image? I figured that was the case for me since the one I'm using has stripped all Verizon and non essential apps out.

I am using the stock software. No root.
Same problem here, non-rooted. Tried clearing Contacts and Google+ (on advice of another forum), no luck. Still crashes every time I place or receive a call.

The force close started 2 weeks ago. I have the same apps installed no new ones. I wonder if google or Motorola updated something in the background or server side. Who knows...
Three days have past and no force close. I havent uninstalled anything or cleared contact cache. Anyone still experiencing the force close or did it go away?
Same here! Incredibly annoying.
I fixed mine by disabling Google+. Ever since I uninstalled it I haven't had any more force closes of contacts.

The problem with disabling is if you use Google Photos to backup photos, your stuck with the error because disabling Google+ removes Photos.
So I've recently switched from an S9+ to the P20 Pro, and I'm experiencing a really frustrating bug on the Facebook app. Whenever someone or a page posts 4 or 5+ pictures, I can't load them. I tap on one, and something flashes to suggest they're open but nothing appears. Also with comments. When opening 'more comments' for example, nothing appears. This isn't just occasionally, it's everytime.
I never had this issue with the S9+ which leads me to believe it may be a setting with the Pro.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app and no joy.
Anyone experienced anything similar?
i don't think it's a bug in the phone. More likely a bug on fb..
I've had the p20p for a while and fb have been ok before.
I have the exact same issue.
I third this issue. Was considering clearing cache and reinstalling but haven't bothered to try yet. Facebook regularly tinker with the app anyway.

Glad to see I'm not the only one. I've tried clearing the cache and reinstalling but made no difference. I'll try again, maybe it's something FB will sort
Have the same problem.... but I don't believe it's an issue with the phone. I had this same problem on my V30
I just downloaded Facebook Lite and its working fine. It doesnt look as good as the main app, and nowhere near as smooth but a good option nonetheless
This is the first time I've seen weird behaviour on Chrome and it started after installing Android 11. When I open Chrome it just closes right away. I need to open it about 10-20 times for it to finally stay open. I tried installing Chrome beta and it works better although sometimes it gives the same issue.
I tried clearing all the data in Chrome but didn't help. Wondering if anyone had this issue or has suggestions to fix.

Since chrome beta is a stand alone app and can be run beside chrome, it seems you have some kind of hard configuration error or corruption. I'm guessing you have already uninstalled/reinstalled the app. If you are unlocked I would try a dirty flash using the full image (not OTA). Next I would backup everything and wipe the phone, installing 11 fresh. Sometimes stuff happens and you just have to reinstall. Not a bad idea going from 10-11. In addition to chrome beta, I use Firefox beta because it supports extensions (eg. uBlock). If the thought of wiping your phone is too much work for this single issue, it may be time to try another browser. Best of luck and let us know how you get it resolved.
Turns out it was app list mode on edxposed that was causing the issue. After disabling it, it works normally again!
