Seriously, can somebody fill me in on what it's supposed to do on our devices?
On my old nexus 5, it did exactly what it was supposed to do: disable the lock screen when a trusted device or trusted place was setup. This was really nice for when I was connected to my bluetooth speakers at home, or even just using my home address. I wouldn't have to unlock the phone with a lock pin or anything. Just turn it on and bam, right where it was before the screen went off.
On the note 5, and I've tried everything, it doesn't seem to do jack sh*t. I've checked settings and removed trusted places and devices and really added them, but the screen is always locked.
Please tell me I am missing something, as that was an awesome feature on my old phone, and I'd like to secure with a fingerprint or pink when not at home, while not having to do so in a safe environment.
Works fine for me. There is still a lock screen but all it requires is a swipe. Otherwise my fingerprint is needed.

Works fine. However, go into the same setting where you turned it on and make sure it hasn't turned off. I have found, for some reason, that it turns off by itself sometimes. Usually when you first turn it on and/or after you do a battery pull reset.
When I am connected to my cars Bluetooth as a trusted device, I have to swipe and then use the fingerprint to unlock the phone. It wont even let me just use the fingerprint to unlock the screen. How are you guys getting it to work? Did it work out of the box for you?
I don't have to do that in my car - just swipe. It had worked correctly for me from daily 1...
I believe it times out after 4 hours, so I do have to use fingerprint 1st thing in the morning. But that's it.
Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
It's not working right for me neither. Still locks when I'm at home (my only trusted location) and is a hit or miss when it's on my body. Trusted Bluetooth works like a charm though. I think it may have something to do with the near 200 packages I have disabled, but I have neither the time nor the inclination to go testing each package to see which one works.

Strange that it works for some and drives others of us crazy. I used it forever without incident on my nexus4.
For those that have it working:
1) Is fingerprint the standard security that you use?
2) Do you have/use Samsung Pay?

This is driving me nuts. Worked so easily on my Nexus4. Things I've tried:
* changing lock type (finger, pattern, pin)
* multiple Bluetooth devices for trusted device (including adding and removing)
* enabling ALL disabled packages and bloat
* uninstalling Samsung Pay
Still nothing. Wondering if maybe this is carrier specific... I'm on Tmo, others?
same here, I just canceled my smart lock, to live normally now. otherwise I get upset.
Yeah this doesn't work for me either. I see the lock, but swipe just then brings me to fingerprint. Same with setting my GPS / home as a trusted location. Never worked for me.

I found out why smartlock doesn't work for my home location. My gps is out of whack. It's about 20-30 minutes off and I can't find a way to fix it without root. This phone's a dud. Hope the note 6 is a vast improvement.

No sir. The design is actually exquisitely beautiful. But I have been running into one disappointment after another with this phone. That didn't happen with my Note 2. Granted, that was many many moons ago, but I can't think of one complaint I had with that phone. So yes, comparatively speaking, in my mind it's a dud and I sincerely hope they get the next one right.

That's fine, it's a dud for your uses. That's unfortunate.
Each to their own. This is my 4th note, and my favorite one at that. There are a few things I would like different, but I am OK with it as is.

No issues on AT&T Note 5. I've used both a Moto 360 and Gear S2 as smart unlock devices when connected. At pairing I got prompted to set it up as a trusted device and since then they've worked perfectly.
I use fingerprint lock and both Samsung Pay and Android Pay.
Working fine for me too. Used it first with my car, a Sony Smartwatch 3 and now LG Urbane. Never had any issue and works as intended. Only time it failed was when GPS was off and was using trusted location. Have you tried a reset? And is the 'On-Body' lock detection on?

Anyone figure out how to have a lock screen and use touchless controls... you know... touchless? Giant gaping hole by Moto.
Whoa - documentation here https://motorola-global-portal.cust...a_id/94881/p/30,6720,8696/action/auth#privacy
This implies we have the ability to do this but I'm not seeing the setting anywhere???
How do I use Touchless Control with the lock screen?
Touchless Control now includes two new features to make using Touchless Control with the lock screen easier. The first is voice pin entry. If you use a numeric pin code you will be prompted by Touchless Control when you encounter the lock screen to speak your pin. Simply say your pin code to unlock the phone to complete your request. The second feature is to allow the Google application to run in front of the lock screen without needing to unlock the phone. This feature requires you to agree to the terms and conditions before you use it. Enabling the feature can be done by agreeing to the notification or turning the feature on manually within Settings -> Touchless Control
Using Open Mic+ seems to be a viable alternative. Does it use the low power core from Moto though?

It's a necessity that it will not work as you want it if you secure your phone (there's really no way to have your phone be secure and has full access to the touchless controls). Your best bet is to buy something like a Cobra Tag alarm and use it as a trusted bluetooth. Turn it on/carry it with you whenever you don't want to have to unlock your phone. I use my car's bluetooth to keep my phone unlocked while driving. It works great because you can wake the phone up and tell google now to navigate somewhere or ask about the traffic all without touching your phone. I think the trusted bluetooth is another great feature that Motorola included that separates it from other phones out there currently.
I've also been beta testing the new SkipLock app for it's developer. It allows you to disable the lock screen when you're connected to trusted wifi points like at home and work. I've been using it a couple days and it has been working well.

I use tasker + secure settings to keep my phone unlocked when within range of both my work or home wifi. I feel secure enough at work that I'm not too worried about having it unlocked. Anything extremely sensitive is locked up anyway. I also use my truck's BT as a trusted device which keeps it unlocked there as well.
So basically my phone is unlocked unless i"m not in my normal places.

Did you follow any specific Tasker guide on how to set that up? I have tried setting it up and haven't have much luck.
I have however just tried Skipunlock and it works well on my Moto X with 4.2.2.
Provided I can get it to work properly, I would rather use Tasker so that I can set it up to unlock when "near" a wifi network rather than being connected.

I've been using this setup for a while. I'm sure I didn't just figure it out but saw it somewhere but I don't have any idea where. The only gotchya is that with 4.4 you need to use the beta version of secure settings.
I use pattern lock, so I just create a task when connected to wifi to disable pattern lock. Secure Settings does need to have the 'helper app' installed too.

Here's the two Tasker projects I've been using to unlock my device while connected to a "safe" Wifi network. One of the projects maintains a set of variables that can be used as states or referenced within tasks. The other project handles the locking and unlocking, and depends on the first project. It's was working fine on my Galaxy Nexus for a long time, and appears to work fine on the Moto X as well.
There's a lot in the "states" project that's not needed for locking/unlocking, but it comes in handy for other things. You can probably just change the "Wifi Connected" state to a "Wifi Near" in the myTRUSTEDWIFI profile, and get rid of the Wait action and uncheck the "if" box in the remaining action in the exit task.
Yes!!!! New version of touchless control fixes this!!!

Unfortunately:cyclops:, they consider that a security issue. So unless you use a hack, you are SOOL.
I suppose it is a bit of a risk but the range of NFC is so limited. Too small to penetrate one's pocket or read from a distance. The only thing I used it for was in the car to toggle WiFi and Bluetooth which kicked off a chain reaction to start/stop Pandora streaming. Now I have to wakeup the phone first to scan NFC and connect BT. Not that big an inconvenience but I did like the option.

It's no more a security risk than being able to enable "Ok Google" when the screen is locked. Not being able to to use NFC when the screen is locked has always annoyed me and was glad Xposed allowed me to do it with KitKat, alas no more. Even my work Blackberry, any current BB10 model and supposedly the most secure of the OSes, allows me to enable NFC when not locked.
Lost in translation?

We are not talking about being able to enable NFC when the screen is not locked. We are talking about having NFC enabled, and the device is sleeping with screen off, not being able to have NFC detect tags or what not without first turning screen on then also unlocking the device. I think you know this but just must of typed it wrong. If not, NFC works great with screen on once past the lock screen. I never disable NFC, I use it the same as the previous post. Getting in car, turns on bluetooth and then launches Pandora and GPS.
With the new Android Auto app and a supporting head unit, all you have to do when you get in your car is plug your phone into a USB port and everything else is automatic. Yeah, one great thing about Nexus 6 and mobile hands free tech.

You're correct, it's a miss-type and I wrote "unlocked" instead of "locked" - corrected.
I too also always keep NFC enabled, but having to unlock the phone is a real nuisance, thankfully as I also keep Bluetooth on now I can set my in-car to be a trusted device that disables the lock, so once the the connection is made I know I can just tap the phone without worrying. But now I don't even do that as I get Tasker to detect the connection and do it for me

You would think this functionality would be natively inherent...
This should be at least a quasi-option.
Like you should be able to enable NFC while screen is asleep to a white-listed tag, and be able to set it to wake up screen or not, and be able to unlock phone or not.
So long as a white-list is required it's not a security risk.
It would also be cool to be able to set up app specific UI macros to initiate from NFC.

For the Smart Lock location issue there have been multiple people saying it's broken in play services at the moment. Some people have gone into maps and seen that their location was way off then it would get corrected and smart unlock would work.
Something worth trying is downloading GPS Status from the play store and it can reset your GPS and download new agps files for you to get better lock ons. It's worth a shot but I think you might be stuck until they fix it.
As for bluetooth, what are you doing when you notice it go out? Also are you rooted all that basic device info stuff?
#blamegoogle lol. Smart lock has been a bit buggy for a lot of users. I've had issues with the trusted places and trusted face. Hopefully Google will get this ironed out in future updates.

Nothing I've tried as fixed that issue, to the point of I don't even bother locking the phone anymore. Only time I really have any concern about anyways is when I'm away from home in public places, but I rarely leave my phone lying around for others to snoop or use or take!

The only reason I ask is that if a bluetooth device disconnects and reconnects you have to input your password once then smart lock works again.

OOPS. This was my fault. Well actually it is still the phones fault technically. I stream music mostly so when I leave the house my wifi is being used so when I leave the house and become out of range my phone will start looking for wifi again so my streaming music will stop. I thought it was the bluetooth but in actuality it was my phone looking for a wifi signal instead of instantly/quickly switching the data from wifi to LTE.
What really made me think it was the bluetooth is that, I have Optimum hotspots so my phone will switch from my home wifi to Optimum hotspots but the signal is not very strong for the data but strong enough to hold the wifi and not switch to LTE, soooooo I would turn my bluetooth on and off which most of the time would not work but by turning off wifi the phone will immediately switch to LTE and music is back. So its the phone that cannot tell or rather gauge a signals strength to see if it is too low for data and switch to LTE.
BUT YES, my bluetooth device smart lock is not working at all. Neither is the location smart unlock and I have tried the "Right and left neighbor address" trick. Still not working. Its broken.
Try the new play services: http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...d-wear-notification-dismissible-apk-download/
It fixed the home location for me.
I've noticed something odd the last few days.
I tend to use Smart Lock to have my phone unlocked while I'm at home and that tend to work decently. Sometimes it doesn't unlock if the phone can't get a good enough locations but overall it's been doing it's job.
These last few days I've noticed something odd however.
The phone doesn't lock. At all. Wherever I am. Kind of annoying.
Sure, there are other ways to solve this, but still. It's a built in function and it'd be nice if it was working as intended.
Running stock 7.1.1, feb's OTA without root so I'm not quite sure what would be the culprit behind this. I'm running beta versions of Google Maps though so that could be it. Maybe something broke in the latest update.
Has anyone else noticed this behavior?
I've seen the same thing recently. My setup sounds similar - stock 7.1.1 from February, not rooted, locked bootloader. I have Smart Lock set to stay unlocked at home but locked everywhere else. I'm at work right now where it should be locked but it's opening on a swipe up without prompting for my pin.
I suspect that this has something to do with a new version of Google Play Services or something getting pushed in the background.
I rebooted my phone and the issue went away. Now prompted for my pin every time I swipe up on the lockscreen.
Yep -both my wife's Pixel and mine fail to use trusted places and devices correctly (we don't use the other smart locks). Started after the Play Services 10.2.98 update on the 10th Feb.
Both trusts seem to only check on phone start, e.g. if restarting at a trusted place the phone remains unlocked when you leave that location.
I've sent feedback and reported it to Pixel support who seemed completely uninterested.
Cheers guys. It's not just me then.
I have the same problem. Trusted places is not recognizing the location. I'm on stock 7 with October security patch. Trusted device though works, Bluetooth in my Jeep.

Here is the short version. Trusted places is working again. On Friday I received my first OTA security update. I'm now on NBD92D. After installing the patch there was no change until Sunday when there was a pop up explaining how trusted places functions. Since then it's functioning correctly.

I'm on N6F26U and I just noticed this today. It's supposed to stay unlocked at home and when connected to the BT transmitter in the vehicle, but it was unlocked at the DMV today. Definitely not trusted.
Same problem here... Smart unlock bluetooth will not list any devices, at all. Period. Can't peer, can't use. Latest version. Thanks Google!
In case you are wondering, Smart Lock still sucks. At my house? Nope. In my car? Nope.
Works great here. Always works with Bluetooth, but with location I've noticed it seems very precise. Like, if I do it from one spot in my house, it may not work if I'm in another. Otherwise, no problems. Not sure why it isn't working for you. If you really want to use it, try a factory reset, fresh setup.
Location based smart locked almost never works for me. It does when I first set it up but after a short while, it just decides to stop. It's been this way I think all the way back to N for me. I've just given up on it lol
I don't do location smart Lock but it works perfectly fine for selected Bluetooth devices.

I've always had issues with smart unlock based on location. One suggestion to improve this feature is to go into Smart Lock and create additional locations around where you would like it to be activated/unlocked. So for example, for your home location, add additional locations around your house to expand your range a bit. But even with this, it's still hit or miss. Give it a shot though and see if it helps.
