OK so on Sunday whilst pissing about, I flashed a broken recovery to my phone. This resulted in a near brick, the phone wouldn't boot at all, and wouldn't even enter Smartflash. I didn't have a recent backup, so needless to say I was pissed.
However, this presented me with a challenge, could I recover my phone without losing anything? Turns out the answer was yes
I was able to NVFlash (battery out, hold both vol keys and plug in USB) over a good recovery, and the phone booted straight to it, from there I restored the old boot.img that I had, rebooted and held my breath.
Success! OK, so wifi didn't work due to the old kernel, but whatever, quick CM reflash fixed that (in hindsight, I could probably have just done that straight away anyway).
I created a little batch menu system to handle the command and let you pick from an internal or external recovery (depending on what you normally use) and a couple scripts for Linux users. Hopefully anyone that has bust their phone to the point of NVFlashing will be able to do this instead and keep all their stuff

Great job!

Nice work. Thanks Rusty!
Great job man
Congratulations...
You can flash entire partitions with the nvflash download command.. There's even a guide to flash clockwork recovery using it on the G2x forums.. I assume you'd just change the 5 to a 7 to compensate for the different partition layouts but don't quote me on it.
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA Premium App
Yeah you don't wanna be quoted on that, you change 5 to 14
It's the same thing, only it's never been mentioned for O2X before, clearly useful though.
@Rusty , Great Job , thanks

If I go in "Device Management", under "Controller USB" I see "LGE Mobile Composite USB Device" correctly installed. I tried to uninstall it and reinstall it with your drivers but the installation fails.
How I can install your drivers?
Many thanks..
Sounds like you're not in APX mode to me, there should be nothing showing on the phone when you plug it in, completely black screen?

No, the screen shows the same screen you see when you make a flash with smartflash. In fact smartflash working properly!
Smartflash will work, because you're on the Smartflash screen. You have to hold both vol- and vol+ while plugging in the cable.

All works now!
Thank you very much!
No luck here. While upgrading via the LG updater, app crashed about 95% through the process. After that, nothing else appears besides the SW updating.
Now the LG updater does not work (says phone can't be upgraded) and smart flash will not start flashing.
was trying this as a last resort, but no luck either.
installed the driver provided in the zip. started the nvflash.bat, choosed 2, a few things appeared and went by until it says:
"cwm-int.img sent successfully
----------------------------------
Program will now exit
Prima qualquer tecla para continuar..."
But i can´t boot to recovery (vol- plus power on), the damned "SW updating" from smartflash appears again
Any advice?
Edit1:
In fact, the "S/W updating" appears almost as soon as i choose 2
Edit2:
Ok, after this, smartFlash worked again..
You need to hold power and vol- till you see A N D R O I D appear.
Yeah, but i never had the chance. Right after the first LG appeared, while still holding vol- and Power, the S/W updating appeared.
But managed to flash the original firmware via Smartflash, after i ran the batch file you provided.
Didn't quite understood what happened here
Don't want this use this at all. (For obvious reason), still thank so much for making this.

Hello LG-2x owners !
I am in a big mess!
I just installled a new rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1699066
My Problem:
When I start my phone , it stucks in the boot. The bootlogo appears, it loads a few seconds and then it just reboots. Over and over again. No deal, I dealed allready with a thousands of bootlops but I cant enter the recovery menu in this case.
Why not? I push all the buttons like Power + Volume Up or Power + Volume down but it enters the boot.
I am so confused and out of plan.
How could I fix it?
Please help me XDA-Community!
Are you pressing the volume and power button past the first LG logo (white only) until you get to the second LG logo (with blue halo in background)?
Try releasing the keys only after you see the second logo.
Sent from my LG-SU660 using xda premium
Thanks for your reply, buddy
I really appriciate it.
The logo wih the colorfull background is not appearing. Thats the main problem, the entrance to the recovery is not there anymore. No colorfull lg logo, nothing.
Its like this: I push the requiered buttons at the very beginning, while pushing this buttons the phone starts. The LG Logo appears (without Background) and the bootlogo appears from this rom.
You might have to reflash your phone and start all over again. Check here for an emergency flash.
Assuming you have it backed up, you can also try this to hard reset:

This will ONLY work if you're able to boot your phone normally, and able to access the menus. And if he has CWM installed, holding the power button + vol down will enter CWM automatically. Correct me if I'm wrong!

Could you PLEASE make a detailed guide for me?
I just dont understand how to install ne nv flash drivers and stuff.
Please make a tutorial for me becuase I dont get the other one
Take a look here.
I saw this link allready but I dont understand the thing with installing the "ATX drivers".
I dont understand it because I got german windows and on top of that there are no photos or anything to know what he means so could you make something else to make it easier to understand?
Do you have take out the accu, take back in, and then hold power and vol-down till 2. boot logo appeared?
Gesendet von meinem HTC One S mit Tapatalk 2
it cant be more easy.
after you pull out the battery you press vol down vol up and connect with data cable to pc. nothing appears, but you go to control panel, then to system and there to device manager, you will se list of all devices and one of them will have some symbol. i think its question mark, you will click it with right mouse button and choose update driver, you will click find driver manually and find the directory with driver extracted from downloaded archive. click ok and driver is installed.
then you can navigate in windows terminal to folder with extracted archive and run the *.bat script with internal or external storage. you can download archive with whole rom on other threads or forums and by run the *.bat load new rom t phone

The instructions on how to install the apx driver is here (see step #2):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1327599
I did it !
Thank to the guide and to you guys, thanks a lot !!!
INSTALLING NVFLASH UTILITY (USING WINDOWS 7)
1. Download NVFlash Utility and Drivers here, and extract to a location of your choice (e.g.: Desktop);
2. Turn off your phone, remove the battery, SIM card and external SD;
3. Hold VolUp + VolDown buttons at the simultaneously and plug in your USB cable (if you use a desktop computer, I recommend using your rear USB ports). Your phone will show a black screen and you should see Windows trying to install a new device, but failing.
4. Right click on the notification showing a failed driver instalation (bottom right corner of your screen), and select 'Update device driver';
5. Select 'Browse computer...', and then select 'Let me pick...', followed by 'Have disk'.
6. Browse to directory you extracted the the zip you downloaded earilier, and point to 'usbpcdriver';
7. Accept any warnings, including the big red alert (you may need to disable UAC);
8. Now in Device Manager under 'USB Controllers' you should have an 'NVIDIA USB Boot-recovery driver for mobile devices';
If everything goes alright, you should now be prepared to flash your phone using NVFlash.
FLASHING YOUR DEVICE
This is the easy part.
Just go to the folder where you extracted the zip, and run 'flash'.
Wait until the utility works its magic and when complete, disconnect your phone from the USB cable, put the battery back in and SIM Card, and reboot to the stock LG ROM.
First boot might take a while, but it will eventually boot and that's all there is too it.
Hope this helped!

I used CM10.1 for a while on my I9000B and decided to go back to stock gingerbread firmware so I installed a full stock rom with odin.
Now I want to go back to CM10.1 again but this darn thing will not boot properly. No matter what I do the phone takes me to CWM Recovery right after powering it up.
This did not happen before when I first upgraded to CM10.1 a few months ago. What could possibly be going wrong now? Any ideas?
Maybe try older stock.

You can get into Download Mode (press phone off Vol Down + Home + Power button)?
If you can, use odin to return to stock, root, and install your favorite Rom
if you can not try this:
1. Power down phone with no USB cable connected.
2. Once you see "good bye" connect USB cable.
3. Wait till battery indicator is visible, and you can see the current charge in green.
4. Hold vol + and vol-.
5. Press power until screen goes black, then let go of power only.
6. Should see the yellow digger.
or this ....
1) turn off the phone and plug the USB into the computer
2) Hold down both volume UP and DOWN {} + plug USB into phone
The phone will then turn itself on and boot to download mode
Thanks but both download and recovery are working fine. The problem is I cannot install anything besides gingerbread roms anymore otherwise they will boot only in recovery

Hi!
I didn't noticed that your phone doesn't go to nvflash mode. Try to press the two volume buttons really really hard. My volume buttons got really unsensitive after 2 years. So I am also strugling with my phone to get it to nvlfahs mode.
Go to this thread.
Download AIO-TOOLKIT.
Install AIO-TOOLKIT.
Remove the battery from your phone
Connect the USB cable to your phone while you are pressing volume up & down buttons.
If you haven't installed APX drivers before, then windows will notice a new hardware and it will try to install the drivers for it, but it will fail.
Start AIO-TOOLKIT.
If you already have APX drivers installed skip this step. If you don't have the APX drivers installed, then press "I" (capital i), After that a window will apear. Just follow the instruction.
In AIO-TOOLKIT at the Main menu press number 4.
On the next screen you can decide between the new and old pt layout and bootloader. Keep in mind that whatever you choose you have to flash the correct rom for the correct bootloader+partition layout. So the new MIUI roms are only for the new bootloader and layout, old miuis like the 2.7 is for old bootloader. Here in the developement forum you can find CM10.1 roms which are made for new and old bootloaders, you just have to download the correct one to your actual bootloader. So press number 1 or number 2
Whatever you choosed at the previous step, press number 1, unless you want to do dualboot (two type of andorid on your phone). If you want dualboot then press number 2 and follow the instructions on the screen.
On the next screen you have to choose between 3 cwm version. If you selected the new bootloader I recommend to use cwm 6.0.2.5 or twrp 2.5.0.0. If you choosed oldbootloader I recommend you to use cwm 5.0.2.8 or twrp 2.5.0.0.
On the next screen, after you choosed your custom recovery, type "ok" (without the " marks) and hit enter.
Now the phone is going to be reparititonated and etc... so your phone will work again.
After the flashing ended wait about 10-15 secs then unplug the usb cable.
Reinsert your battery, then turn on your device. It should boot up into the selected custom recovery. If it does not boot up into recovery then turn off your phone and turn it on again while you are pressing and holding volume_down and power button.
Enable usb mass storage in the cwm recovery then plug the usb cable back. Format the internal SDcard to FAT32 then copy the zip file of the selected rom you want to flash (like miui or cm)
Flash your prefered rom
Restart phone.
Done

I dont really know what drivers did installed succesfully, but you don't need battery to use smartflash or nvlfash. If you want to use smartflash without battery then first flash the .fls file and for the second attempt flash the .bin file.
Hi All,
My LG optimus p970 cannot able to go in recovery mode. I tried couple of options like key combination and also tried to boot into recovery from ROM manager application available on google play. Because of this i cannot able to load any custom ROM into my phone.
Please can anybody help me on this. I have all files regarding JB to install properly.
Regards,
Akshay
Which rom do you have installed on your phone?
Stock roms don't have any recovery out the box (both gingerbread and ICS). Plus, on stock ICS, using the key combo will wipe data imediatelly without asking.
First, you need to flash a patched v20 with cwm recovery.
