Wondering if anyone else are having issues with the bluetooth on the note 5. One issue I'm having is the connection to my galaxy gear disconnects and reconnects randomly and after a few disconnects seems like the phone just ignores the gear and manual connection only works 50% of the time other times I have to reset the phone to regain connection. Other problem Im having, which I cant figure out, is my car bluetooth stereo connects with no issue to my phone but when using calling it uses the car speakers for output audio but the phones mic for input audio. Tried my S5 and the stereo works perfectly. Any suggestions? I've tried wiping caches, unpairing repairing devices. Factory reset (which worked for about a few hours but started the same issues again). I was thinking it may be software related but no software or updates were installed between the factory reset and having issues again.
Yes I'm having the same problem with my gear s2 just got off the phone with tmobile there sending me a new note 5 hopefully it will fix it I'll update after the switch

hi,
i have Note5 stock Rom, no root. I also have a Gear watch (still on Android.. not Tizen, rooted, Null 23 Rom) Been using the Gear watch since launch with my then Note 3, Note 4 and now with Note5.
Overall no problems at all. Only replaced the watch battery a month back thats all.
My Bluetooth connection to all my devices has been overall, very good.
I am currently using my Gear with Note5. The Bluetooth connection is very, very good. i cannot recall it ever disconnecting from Note5. (if in acceptable distance.. +-
10 metres or so.) Overall Gear is working 100%.
Point i am making is according to my experience, Bluetooth connection with Note5 works fine... no disconnecting issues.
I know this doesn't solve your issues,
but good to know.
Good luck
I'm wondering if I may have a hardware issue. If connected to a BT device (eg gear) and I move more than a couple ft from the device connection is lost. I'm very confused with my car stereo though, what would cause BT to split and use my phones mic and the stereos speaker not the stereo mic? Anyone ever experience a similar issue?

hi,
futher i can add,
i use Note5 Bluetooth
with following devices no issues. No disconnecting issues or any other issues.
Polor M400 Bluetooth Hart rate watch( re smart notifications) ,
Jam Bluetooth headset (streaming music) ,
Phillips Bluetooth dock.( streaming music.)
My Lenovo laptop,( Sending of pics, apps etc)
and use it to connect to my other Phone devices etc
Never had any issues with disconnecting.
Given that the devices are normally
about 2 meters apart when in use sometimes 10...12 meters.
I would suggest you get you device checked, as yes it does not seem right
that it disconnects so easy (when so near)
good luck
This might be an odd question but how would someone go about testing the phones BT, it connects just not stable. Only reason Im asking is I dont want to send it to samsung and have to wait 2-4 weeks and them to come back and say its working.

hi ,
yes ,i understand, you don't want to wait for period of time ,w/o your phone. !!!
I would have maybe done some "little tests" , to get a better opinion of the Bluetooth issue ??
eg. Test your devices in environment/area where there is no interference , ( no concrete walls ,buildings ...an open area .No electric cables/towers )
An open area ,field or another locations than your home or workplace etc .
See what is you min. and max. distance on disconnection ,if it only occurs more at your home than another area .? Get some facts and maybe make a small video to illustrate your issue ?
and show it to "someone" in the know ???
eg ..If you bought phone through service provider show video to them ./Samsung ( i have a habit that when i have a issue ..........................
eg. broken roof tiles/wall socket /a damage car part ......etc etc ....
i would take photo's/video ,(with my phone and keep copy on my phone ) and when talking to "somebody" in the know/or send your device to Samsung ,show them photo's /video of issues. It helps them to understand your issues better ,
and maybe give you better advice on issue ?
Also ,try to compare you results with somebody with similar device ???
Google is your friend ???
Google around ..???
you might just learn something in process ,that can help ?
Above is basics of what i would have done .
good luck
Bluetooth firmware v 4.2 and older versions .

hi
further to my post above ,
i just want to add another issue you should be aware .
Bluetooth v 4.2 (Note5 firmware ) and compatibility issues with other Bluetooth versions 3.0 ,v 4.0 v 4.1 etc ,To give you a real life example .......
On my Gear watch i use to have Bluetooth v 3.0 ( ? )
i was using my Note 3 ( at the time ).Then my Note 3 was upgraded to Bluetooth v 4.0 ,
when i started having disconnection issues .Also in Bluetooth settings on my Note3 ,device my Gear would not show up in paired devices or stick in list .
When my Gear Bluetooth firmware was upgrade to v 4.0,
i found the disconnection issues was resolved and my Gear then showed up in pair devices
I am not saying this is the issue,
but you should be aware of what Bluetooth firmware your other devices are using ...?????
Is it Bluetooth L E ( Low Energy ) version 4.2 or v 3.0, v 4.0 ,v 4.1,
good luck
Hi again

i've got such issues after restoring Note 5. i did reset gear to the factory settings and paired devices...
Thanks for the replies. After doing some testing and what not the only thing I can figure is a bad BT module/chip in the phone. Sent it in through my service provider today. Will post results when I gets it back. Using my old S3 for now until I gets it back, its like my phone shrunk and got sugnificantly slower lol.
update for anyone who is wondering or having the same prroblems. I got my phone back from samsung today, they replaced the main board in the phone. BT seems is working good now and the phone seems snappier than before. Thanks for the help. ☺

Hi guys,
I am having problems with car BlueTooth hands free and Samsung Galaxy S:
With Eclair 2.1 it was working flawlesly, connected automaticlay after paired, I could make phonecals, receive phonecals, no quality issue, phonebook worked fine etc... The only problem was that once I did not swithced the BT on my SGS before starting to drive, for some security reasons the car was not searching for phones while driving, so I had to turn the BT in car off and on again and then it connected well. But overal problem free...
With latest 2.2 Froyo (i9000xfjp7) and also previous Froyo distributions (i tried JPA if I remember correctly), the phone can be paired, it connects to the car but after one phonecall it looses connection and works no more. The strange thing is, the BT icon on the phone shows brackets (like when connected) and also the car shows the phone is still connected. But phonecalls cannot be made via car HF and also cannot be received through it. Only by manualy accepting or dialing on the phone. And naturally the sound goes only via the phone, no HF.
The strange thing is, when I turn off the car and leave it, the phone says it is still connected to it, which is impossible.
Any ideas?
Thank you!

That is weird... When I switch back to Eclair, it works OK, back to Froyo, no HF after one phonecall...
I dont know how to work with ROMs, I managed to find out how to flash firmwares, I even handled many problems with Odin and its moods, incomplete flashes, etc... But I dont know how to use these custom ROMs...
Anyway, i would appreciate if someone told me how to resolve it without custom ROMs, as I plan to use offical Froyo when it becomes available, but with this issue, it is useless for me, as I travel a lot...
No one else?
I'm having a related problem.
I'm getting music stream cut outs (1 sec max) when streaming bluetooth to caraudio WHILE wifi on.
If i disable wifi, bluetoothaudio works fine. I know they share range bt/wifi, but this is unacceptable. They should negotiate. Everytime wifi scans, i get cutouts. Unusable. Only workaround is disabling wifi (and thats annoying because i have to be constantly activating/disabling it everytime i enter somewhere with wifi etc.
Using Docrom xxjpo v8 with voodoo.
Anyone has some software fix that makes wifi behave better when bluetooth musictream on?
I got my Note 4 yesterday and was trying to connect my car radio (Jvc Kw-V50BT). The phone connected, but when trying to connect the media part of the phone it just doesn't want to connect. I had a LG G2 prior to this phone and it worked fine. I checked JVC and it should work with Bluetooth 2.0 and up. This is baffling my mind right now. I might have to factory reset my phone and try it that way. Any help would be appreciated.

If it still doesn't work...try another BT source.
Works better with my Ford Touch than any phone previously.

Try reseting your radio... not sure how you do that with your model. Make sure you delete the old pairing.
bt 4.0, which most newer phones have, is very touchy about what it works properly with; I have a bad time trying to stay connected to my vivosmart garmin band, but pairing to my car and plantronics headset works 100% of the time.
my wife has a G3, and has the same issues; some things work 100% of the time, and some others only work occasionally
A2DP Issues
I just got my Note 4 yesterday, and am definitely experiencing some (admittedly minor) issues with A2DP in my Honda CR-V EXL 2012.
When playing music over Bluetooth, I experience the infamous "Galaxy S5 intermittent half-second skip". Also, I have noticed that when playing an album or playlist, if the screen on the phone is off the currently playing song information will not update.
For example:
I am listening to "Gimme More" by Britney Spears on the album Blackout.
"Gimme More" ends, and the next track "Piece of Me" comes on.
The car screen will continue to show "Gimme More' unless I use the forward or back buttons from my steering wheel or dashboard to manually change songs.
This causes the screen to update to "Piece of Me"... albeit with a brief delay.
Very odd...

I finally got it too work, but I had to get an app to help me out. I think it was called Bluetooth Manager or something. I forced it to accept the media and got it working. I was getting frustrated when even a factor reset didn't help.
Yes, I have the stuttering too on my Note 4. What can I do about it?

This may not help but.. Got my Note 4 four days ago; had the Note 3. 3 Had 0 problems with Bluetooth; 30 ft. through walls, drops rare, auto connected to my car while I was in the house. Note 4 range 15 feet,, constant drops and fails to connect. Hoping to get another 3 or 4 from T-mobile but that has not happened yet. I'm good carrying both. The 4 makes calls (although the speaker is a downgrade. The 3 connects to all my stuff. just like the old days at work. :fingers-crossed:
This is what I'm using. No issues.
It's not super new. Just a decent deck. But, the rule is the newer the better with flagship phones:
Not sure if this is related or not - I have an open thread about blue tooth streaming issues with my car...
What I have found so far -
My car (2012 Subaru STi) has two methods to pair a blue tooth device... entering the setup through the steering wheel is the only way to save a device for auto connect and play, entering the setup through the head unit lets you save and select a phone to pair, but you must select pair each time you get into the car. If you do option #2, I have the call audio and media boxes always unchecked. - see if your car has a different method for primary user/secondary user blue tooth set up
and secondly, my main issue was that while listening to spotify my radio head unit would say BT-Audio Paused out of nowhere, when in fact, the spotify track still shows playing and the song is progressing.
after lots of troubleshooting I think this may be an issue to spotify itself and not my phone (I am now testing Pandora/other streaming media to see if they do the same interment freeze/odd stuff)
I've also been having problems with Bluetooth devices connected to my Note 4. Previously, I had been using an iPhone 6 and I didn't have any issues with these devices. Now, I'm experiencing connection problems with my Jawbone UP24, my Plantronics headset, or my Jaybird stereo earbuds, and other devices. Once I reboot my Note 4, the BT connection is usually back. But, sometimes I have problems even after I've rebooted the Note 4. If I power cycle my BT peripheral, I'm usually OK as well.
So - my question is: could it be possible that some of my Bluetooth peripherals (like my Jawbone UP24) may be causing some type of interference? Or, do I have faulty hardware?
Older Bluetooth Devices always seem to be hit or miss on the newer Samsung devices that have been coming out. May be its age being the factor, lol. :silly:
I use BT at home daily for listening to music and netcasts. I have a couple of different BT speakers as well as the awesome Panasonic Link-to-Cell phone system for those who have dropped their home hard-wired phone lines. I also use BT constantly when I am in my car.
With my LG G2, BT connection was seamless and immediate, all the time, for years now. It connected to multiple devices as soon as I walked in the door and with my car audio as soon as I started my car.
With the N5, it always needs to be re-paired manually - especially at home where there are two devices waiting to pair with it as soon as I come home. It'll pair with the Panasonic phone, but when I select a speaker, the N5 disconnects from the Panasonic and then I have to re-pair with it. It will work once I spend a moment managing connections. In the car it often pares immediately, but sometimes not.
Another observation is that the N5's BT range is short, and it will drop if a line-of-sight gets interrupted momentarily.
In an attempt to fix, I have wiped the cache for both Bluetooth apps that come with the VZW N5 - that didn't help. Then, I wiped the system cache, also no dice. I wonder if this is carrier-dependent (I am on VZW) or something to do with older BT devices and the newer BT protocol that the N5 uses. I've read that the N4 has similar BT issues.
Overall, it's usable, but not as good as my old G2. Anyone else have these issues? Fixes??
This issue persists to this day. I can accommodate it with some manual intervention when I want to connect to my BT speakers.
Looking to get a BT 4.x speaker to see if it's just a BT version issue.
I only use Bluetooth in my car and I haven't had any issues whatsoever. Always connects as soon as I start the car and never drops the connection or anything. It syncs my contacts and everything just fine as well. I don't use Smart Lock however. Maybe try turning that off?

I think that's the case. For some reason samsung's 4.1 Bluetooth protocol is not backwards compatible. Ever since the s4 Bluetooth meta data has stopped working in my 2012 Mazda. Works fine with my N5 (nexus 5) and my LG G4. If I had to bet I think that's the issue with you. I could be wrong. Just thought I'd share.

Note 5 always works with my car, does not drop or anything but it has an unstable connection to my samsung gear circle headphones. I believe it is the 5.1.1 update, because they work with my wife's note 3 just fine and they used to work fine before the 5.1.1 update.
Did you ever resolve your issue? looks like some are successful after getting their device replaced and others are not and say the problem comes back. All seems to be related to the 5.1.1 update..
Bluetooth and Note 5, horrible combination

Thanks for writing. I found out that if I disable wifi, it connects a little better, though not as good as my wife's phone, Note 3 (my previous phone)
I tried to find ways to change the frequency it connects, but google was not helpful. Maybe some of the experts here could be helpful, I do not know.
Anyways, I tried to connect to our smart bulb yesterday. It would pair, but would never connect, wifi or not. On the other hand, the Note 3 connected to it immediately.
They keep updating the gear circle software but it is the phone fault, since gear circle is able to connect to my laptop from even another floor!
It's not the BT device... I have terrible luck with expensive purchases and my note 5 was no exception. I upgraded from a galaxy S relay (love keyboards) and about 1 month later my Bluetooth stopped working from all through my house to needing a DIRECT line of sight and max range of about 2 feet. Netflix, hulu, audible all pretty much useless with this issue.
I returned it and got a new one (not referbished) and I noticed a slight lag in key strokes. About 2 weeks go by and the bottom half of my screen is going haywire. Trying to scroll a Web page and it would click everywhere. Typing like I am now would result in 100s of extra letters I was never close to pressing. I returned it and got a referbished one and same thing... my 4th one which I'm using to type this just started doing the Bluetooth thing and I'm so mad.
It's not the Bluetooth device because I tried my old Plantronics I used for 5 years, my new Plantronics, my car, and these weird speakers that have water pumps in them and the issue was the same. I love this phone but it seems to hate me...

Quick question, do you have android 5.1.1 or 6? I still have 5.1.1 and thats when it started with the problems. It was all fine and dandy with android 5.0.
My wife has a Note 3 with 5.0 and the same headphones are just fine with it.
I have been waiting for android 6 to see if it works out.
My Note 5 upgraded itself to Android 6.0 and all my bluetooth problems are solved magically. I cannot believe how they can manage to screw up things for so many months and we have to wait for the new OS to have it solved. For Samsung Gear Circle none the less. I know I am not buying bluetooth watches or anything in case they screw up bluetooth again in an "update".
Just to open with this - I really like this phone and have been enjoying using it. Aside from the fairly poor WiFi range and the flaky NFC it is otherwise a really nice phone. There's just one other issue I have which is extremely frustrating:
I can't use it with my Airpods. Or at least, I can connect it but at some point the sound will crackle and cut off. If I wait it will occasionally crackle and come back on again but will cut in and out in a way that would drive anyone mad. I've tried fiddling with Bluetooth settings in developer options but it doesn't seem to make any difference. I've even tried a factory reset.
The Airpods work absolutely perfectly with every other device - no issues with the iPhone (expectedly) nor the S8, G6 or even my laptop. I can't 100% rule out a fault with the Airpods but given these facts it seems highly unlikely.
I wondered if anyone else used Airpods and had experienced issues and found a solution.
Not too interested if you've had no issues with your device, nor what you think of Airpods - I just want to see if I can get to the bottom of this, or the Nokia will have to go back.
Many thanks
Similar problem
Got a similar problem with my apt-x receiver.
Every few minutes the connection drops for a very short time.
The airpods don't support apt-x, but maybe it's the same problem.
My receiver shows a connection via apt-x, , but you can't find any apt-x support in the Nokia 8 specs.
But I had no problems with a friends portable speaker (non-apt-x).
I went back to cables

I’m wondering if the Nokia 8 just has rubbish connectivity, generally. If the Bluetooth chip is part of the WiFi chip then this would figure as it has the worst WiFi connectivity I’ve seen in recent years
Are you running Nougat or Oreo? From what I've heard, a lot of the bluetooth issues have been fixed in Oreo.

I wonder if yours is wonky, my Wi-Fi is excellent and i get get 75Mbit down 19Mbit up over 5Ghz through 2 brick walls, a floor up and at the opposite end of the house, i have not missed any payments using contactless via NFC and Bluetooth works fine via an Anker Bluetooth speaker and my JBL Bluetooth headphones.
Sorry for digging an old thread, but I still have the same problem even after a bunch of software updates.
My issue with the AirPods is that they do not work after they connect. I take them out of the case, they connect (as expected), but as soon as I start playing something the music/video pauses and the sound switches to speaker (if I press play again it plays out loud). To make them work I need to go to bluetooth settings, disconnect them and connect them again. Then they will work almost flawlessy (minor intrerruption from time to time).
I have no issue with other BT speakers. I also use the AirPods with an iPad and laptop and no issues there.
My Nokia 8 software is up to date. AirPods firmware the same (checked on the iPad).
I tried re-pairing after each software update. I tried changin BT settings (absolute volume - dev settings; contact sharing and HD Audio: AAC) but no improvements.
Any ideas what else can I try?
Search for Oreo and Bluetooth problems. It seams to be a general issue for this Android Version. I have problems connecting my Phone with the car, too.
Hi,
I hope to get here some suggestions....
I change from a SONY XPERIA XZ Premium to Huawei P30 Pro. With my SONY device I have never a problem with my Fossil Smartwatch and BT-Headset.
Now, with the Huawei my smartwatch is not able to connect the phone. Only once I got a connection, after I make a factory reset of the smartwatch. After going in flight-mode an reenable the connection, the phone see my smartwatch, but does not connect to it.
Does anyone have an idea what's going wrong?
Is there a serious support-page from Huawei to get a real support?
Thank you
In all honesty I've had three Huawei/Honor phones and they all have had issues with connecting to my Fitbit. It's very intermittent sometimes takes a while to connect. Some days it doesn't at all.

I'm checking and testing some powersave-options - it is very unclear. I think there must be the reason for it. Must make exeptions for wearOS and maybe the problem could be solved.
Never had this "problems".
Never really had any problem with my Mate 9 Pro and so far my P30 Pro works well too. Only tried my car and Bose Quiet Comforts so far thought.

You have connected only one device. Smartwatch AND headset/caraudio at the same time is/was the problem.
As I said, I've make some changes in the power-setting regarding the WearOS-app.
Using 3 Garmin Smartwaches/Tracker, a car hands free, bluetooth speakers and headphones without any problem so far.
Also did not had any problems using multiple at the same time of these together
i had problem connecting my P30 Pro to my car, it can identify the device but prompt for password that P30Pro never response!!
Huge problem
connects to a Bluetooth headset but there is so much stutter that's only one problem! The major problem is that it will not make Facebook or Whatsapp calls via Bluetooth and even if I click the Bluetooth icon it switches back to local speaker. I tried everything
Unpair and reconnect
Reset network settings
Clear Bluetooth cache memory and data
Everything!!! Still no solution, I even factory reset the phone and still same problem, I tried 5 different Bluetooth headset also. Please help with any suggestions

did you looked in the pairing options, whether the device is using phone AND media protocoll? Doesn´t seem like that
Yes I have, YouTube works via the Bluetooth, phone calls work, pretty much everything else does except calls via apps like Whatsapp and Facebook messenger, Skype etc
Did you try changing to 5g wlan instead of the 2,4g I never had that problem in 13 years apple. There also it worked perfect at 2,4ghz.
Dont ask me why that does not work for huawei p30pro. Btw. Samsung s9 also does not do a good job at 2,4.so maybe a android10 thing. Bluetooth also works at 2,4ghz...but how can that work for apple??
Had this Bluetooth issue since day 1.
Using Bluetooth to anything works fine for 20ish mins then stops.
Disabled all battery restrictions like we have to do with the apps to keep them open (in both places) I did a general one, still the same issue.
It's stupidly frustrating and so damn annoying.
I've been gutted about this phone since I got it, sadly stuck in a contract for another 12 months
