I've already searched on the forum and googled it and came to the conclusion that my Xperia Z1 is now a paper weight.
Still my curiosity got the better of me
In short, I have a Xperia Z1 (C6902) which was working perfectly till today (2 years old),
Rooted, Unlocked bootloader, TWRP recovery, CM 12.1 Nightly ROM (July).
I remember the battery level was around 40% and after a phone call, I put it on charge and that was the last time I saw my phone powered on :|
I came back, only to see that my xperia z1 is bricked. I've already tried -
1. Power + Vol -
2. Power + Vol +
3. Holding Vol - while connecting to laptop/computer
4. Holding Vol + while connecting to laptop/computer
Neither the phone vibrates nor the LED shows any color, not even recognized in laptop/computer and Sony PC Companion app in windows.
So is there any way to recover my phone now?
As told earlier, my phone is 2 years old so of course out of the "warranty" period but it's really not fair to me as a consumer, cause it's an already known bug and a very serious one, not ought to be on any phone let alone on a once flagship.
So is there any way I can fight my way with the Sony to get my phone repaired without shelling out double the cost of current market price of this 'flagship'
I am planning on taking my phone to Sony service center tomorrow.

may be your battery dead.
In my opinion you can save the path to Sony repair center. Even if they get the phone running I think they will deny any support because your phone isn't in original state.
It is rooted, bootloader unlocked, etc.
If you have luck only the battery died and replacing the old with a new is enough. The problem is that you need some skills changing it yourself because our z1 hasn't got a removable back cover.
@GravityDead u may follow this link and try the steps mentioned here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849170

Well, I thought about it too but how will SONY know I unlocked the bootloader as most probably motherboard is the issue here and it will have to replaced.
Though I don't feel good lying to people but IMO, voiding warranty because of root is not a good policy and especially if the phone the company sold is bricked due to THEIR common bug, it is just pure evil.
For months I was telling everyone to wait for xperia Z5 for their next upgrade but I've changed my mind now, AFTER facing many problems with Z1 like low speakers sound, VERY poor wifi range, how could I forget the lollipop update, man it was very slow/laggy, lollipop update was the reason I rooted my xperia z1 and now THIS bug (so many guys has lost their phones to this bug, just read sony forums)

thanks man, I've bookmarked them for future reference.
UPDATE: my phone booted up today but I don't know how and that's what scares me 'cause I read it somewhere on the sony forums that this bug comes back eventually.
I woke up, switched on and connected the charger disappointingly but to my amazement phones' LED lit up (Red LED for showing low battery), I left it to get charged up for a reasonable time. and now it's working just like yesterday now
Though I've learned a very good lesson that
never to buy phones on launch but to wait to read reviews on forums.
thanks again guys, I will post back if something goes wrong again and if you need to ask something then please go ahead

Well got the sleep of death last night.
Set the Alarm, woke up this morning after the alarm time to find the Z with the notification light blinking but otherwise completely unresponsive.
Had to do a power plus vol + reset.
Anything I can do to track down the cause?
Phone is rooted but bootloader is still locked.
Could be an application.

Well the only permanent SU grant I've given is to better battery stats.
If it happens again I may try revoking the grant and see if it makes a difference.
I have to add here, I'm regularly getting the Sleep of Death on mine, and it's not rooted, still completely stock... so I'm thinking it's not related to rooting or any kind of root-level process.
Initially I thought it might be to do with the new-fangled 'Stamina' mode - so that's turned off too now, but I'm STILL getting it - however, some days I don't - and there's absolutely no pattern to it at all.
My next step, though I don't want to do it, will be to take it back to factory settings (no installed apps, no accounts, no syncing etc) and see if I still get it then - if I do, then it'll be jolly well back into its little Sony box and back from whence it came toute-suite... (or quickly, if that doesn't mean quickly). LOL.
As an aside, on older Xperia models (was just reading) the Sleep of Death was a 'feature' but when connecting to USB, it was recognised as the QUALCOMM device - I've just plugged my death-sleeping Xperia Z into usb, and I get NOTHING.
Question: Does everyone get a green flashing LED when in Sleep-of-Death? Mine's always green, and flashing around 1Hz (once a second) for around 300ms (I would imagine, haven't timed it!)
Perhaps an Android Update will resolve it....!
Not sure if it will help, but on my old V the sleep of death disappeared when I switched off wifi

Tonight, I will try with no wifi, and see what happens.

Can I ask where did you buy your XZ? like all the people, who have this SOD problem, could you all write, where did you bought your XZs? may be it could clarify thing...
I bought mine in HK about a week now, and nothing like SOD or anything faulty, yet (touch wood, thank god). So I was thinking may be it was one of the earlier batches from manufacturer, that were defected.
Well, mine is UK based, and supplied by CPW (Carphone Warehouse) - fully unbranded, network independent device.
To add to the SoD issue, it happened earlier on without being on charge - and NO notification light flashing - it was, in effect behaving like it was turned off - no LEDs, no screen, no response to buttons. Hard reset (Vol Up+Pwr) fixed it again - 90% battery remaining when it happened.
It's gotta be down to some software related thing... surely...? Just - what?! Roll on 4.2.2

It does seem to be completely random some days I would get 2 SODs other times nothing for 2-3 days. It happened in the first 24hours I bought the phone. Mine was bought in Taiwan CC602, it's completely sold out so no replacement until the next batch arrives. However, the softkey reboot isn't such a big problem for me.
Stamina mode does seem to make it happen more often as well as task killers like ESTask Manager. Mine happened before root and after root. It has only happened when it hasn't been charging.

Mine was from Clove.co.uk, it's a sim free model.
I haven't had the problem since so hopefully it was a once off or at least is pretty rare.
I don't use stamina mode and I usually leave the wifi on.
Got SOD yesterday. At one moment i took the phone and tried to wake it up, but there`s no response from the phone. Set it in charging dock and wait for 15 minutes, still nothing, LED notification was totally off. After hard reset (3 times vibro) phone started fine. Stamina mode is always off, phone is rooted but the BL is factory locked. Bought it officially in Russia, color is black, 13W06.
After Xperia T and Xperia V, “Sleep Of Death” issue, has also appeared on the new Sony Xperia Z. There is nothing official right now, only some testimonials, from people who own the device, in forums and blogs. They experienced this issue with the Android 4.1.2 – Build 10.1.A.1.350 installed.
I have ordered Xperia Z and waiting eagerly for it.. but after knowing all these things.. I am very much worried.. I sold my beautiful Arc to buy this grand cell.. :crying:
This has happened to me too, the first time was within 24 hours after taking it out of the box. So far it has happened like 3 times in a week. 2 times it was overnight and the other time it was within 30 mins of the last use. I'm currently testing if turning wifi off before I go to sleep would make the problem go away but I'm not sure on that yet.

Did u perform rooting? unlocking BL? flashing roms ?
either ways....getting your phone is one worst thing....
It is very hard to brick an Xperia device nowadays.
You sure is not just out of juice? Sometimes it can be that the battery suddenly dies and you have to leave it charging a lot of time to turn it back to life.
Locked or unlocked bootloader?
Flashtool should do the job in case of soft brick. Or even EMMA in case you are unlocked.
Does it get detected by the PC?

Any news? My Z died most likely because I messed with terminal emulator (tried to get rid off CWM bootloop the easy way ) and it didn't boot up ever again... Only thing I get out of it is red led when pressing power and vol+ when usb is connected. Computer sees it as a usb device but cannot connect to it. No fastboot or flash mode. I'm going to send it for repairs but it will probably be too expensive to get it done.
I already got htc one to replace Z. One sounds awesome! Incredible speakers for a phone. It is fast and sweet. BUT it looks STUPID when you put Z and One side by side... And no waterproofness of course

So sony sucks globally when it comes to customer care?! Have to try it my self. I've heard that finnish service company is very very good at what they do... Even if your phone has a 50 cal bullet hole smack in the middle they'll blame water/moisture damage. If you manage to convince them to actually look at your device they'll send it to some Euro main service central where it will be sucked in to a wormhole and time around that phone seems to stop
update:
SBE fault : charging - does not charge
Status : With High Level Engineer - Component Repair
update:
sbe have said the phone is unrepairable and are going to exchange it for another one.
Wow this took some time...
Almost two months it took:
1. Sending device to finnish service center
2. It was sent to sony service right away
3. after waiting and waiting I asked finnish service whats going on: Atleast their version was that sony had fixed (or replaced with a new device) and sent it back to finland. And during shipping device was lost.
4. According to finnish service sony was figuring out what to do, propably giving new devices....
5. So after almost two months I got a replacement XZ. And it was done under warranty. Yay!
Hey guys, long time no see.
Since my super popular forray into baseband modification my girlfriend has had my trusty old xperia Z c6603 until this morning. Of course, the first day of 2015 sets off with a bang.
After unplugging her phone this morning, it locked up. (this happens sometimes, once out of every 10 unplugs) She reset it with volup + power as usual and took a shower. Except today, it doesn't come back on.
This phone has never been rooted. It's had an alternate baseband flashed (of course, lol), and it's been working fine for 2 years. It has no water damage of any kind, and since it's me, you can expect it's in killer shape.
Volup/down + power does nothing at this point. Thinking I'm going to have to go into disassemble as described in other threads to unplug the battery, but that sucks.
Anyone else had this issue?

Hi!
This is the first time I post a thread on xda since I had my Xperia Arc .. good times. Then I switched to Windows Phone and a couple months ago I returned to android with a Moto X 2nd gen.
I never installed a mod, rom or even unlocked the bootloader or root my phone, I really wanted only use my phone for my regular tasks.
The problem is today I was going to check my messages and the screen won't turn on, I supposed it was the battery so I pluged my phone to the power source and.. nothing.. It's just dead :/
I connected my phone to my PC to see if I can see any signal of life and I've noticed when I plug my phone to my PC and press and hold the power button a green led turns on for 2 -3 seconds and then dies again .. My PC can't detect the phone , I just get "unknown device"...
The phone was new or used before you?
If it was used perhaps you need a new battery. If it was new you must go at motorola service center to fix it by your warranty.

Tomorrow I will call support and see what happens
Plug it into the charger overnight. Check it in the morning. Try holding out Vol +, Vol - and power for 30 sends.
So is support willing to help you? When my Moto X suddenly died they didn't want to help me...
Support..?? Really.. I will tell u something... I wanted to contact them through email and checked web site, so I could see contact us options - but when I checked that the link was broken... So I decided to get to service support chat.. But u know what they said..?. They can't five me their e mail....what..?. Seriously?? They can't give something that I can't access but it's publicly posted... They are waste.. Don't waste ur time on them..

Sorry to hear about your phone.
I'd be interested to hear the outcome of this..
The same thing happened to my MotoX. After months of discussions with Moto Support I ended up getting the phone repaired "outside of warranty". They refused to cover the repair because I had moved to Australia. (ridiculous for a 'global' company.)
After paying a huge amount to repair the phone, I booted it up and realized they had replaced the 'main board' with the wrong part. My 32gb phone was now a 16gb model.. The repair cost me more than a brand new 16gb model off the shelf!
I've tried to contact moto to resolve the issue but have had radio silence from motorola and the repair center ever since.
I hope you have better luck, and more free time to keep hounding them than I did...
Hi!
Please help me!
I installed custom ROM(no SeLinux support) and tested two partitioning programs.
ROEHSOFT PARTITION TOOL
and
ROEHSOFT DRIVE-EXPERT
I did a partition recovery and reboot the phone.
Since then, it doesn't turn on, doesn't charge, no led feedback, can't see the pc, and no fastboot mode, completely dead.
I disassembled, disconnected the battery, but nothing happened.
Died?
What can you do with it even if your PC can't see it?
The two partition programs, in stock rom, did not start, but this rom (selinux is inactive) was ran.
What happened to him being completely dead?

Obvious question, have you made sure it’s turned off before you try to boot it? The screen might just be black but the unit still on.
Hold down Vol up (+) and power together until the phone vibrates three times. Wait a couple of seconds, then press the power button once to try and start it.
As long as the screen wakes up, then you’re in with a chance of getting PC Companion or Flashtool to see it and rescue it.
This was an unlocked phone? If no, then there's a slim chance that you haven't done any permenent damage and you might be able to re-flash.
If you don’t get any joy from a reset, then you have rodgered your partition table and there isn’t any way to bring it back from that.
@dustinzahn, in my opinion, changing partition is very risky. Most likely it is a brick already, no way to recover, if it does not enter fastboot nor sony flash mode.

Yes, unlocked, but hiding J4nn-s kernel, OEM closed the menu.
I tried everything.
It doesn't vibrate, can't detect the PC.
In old xperia's, touching testpoint fixed this and entered fastboot.

Do you know the IMEI number?
You could register the phone on the Sony Warranty site , then call the helpdesk and say it's stopped working.
You might be required to provide some proof of purchase, but if it's within two years of its original sale, then it's covered by warranty (EU &UK).
Don't worry if you didn't buy it new, the warranty moves with the phone, not the purchaser. If it was sold through a service provider, putting the IMEI number in will tell you when it was origally sold and what, if any, warraty is left.
Edit: might be a bit late if you've pulled it apart

And the results of your testing?
I give up.
Sorry, my English is not very good, I use the google translator, I'm trying to be understandable.
Stupid Sony designed the motherboard that the test point section right on the bottom half. The phone must be disassembled from the display side.
It's almost impossible to press the test point and while using the usb.
I also broke the flex cable, and I was tired and irritated, so the display cable also damaged.
I tried all the existing "test points" , but nothing happened. He probably didn't survive the procedure.
If the motherboard is good, the display and the USB flex replacement is almost a used XZ1C price, so it landed in the drawer. It'll be good for decoration.
But I found my first smartphone, a sony ERICSSON Mt15i, Neo.
I was originally a Sony Ericcson fan.
The touch screen is bad, but I've already assigned it.
I have a z1 compact, there's the power + volume flex cable must replace, I also ordered it.
Neo now works with an OTG + mouse, but the Z1 Compact does not turn on without a button, only indicates charging.
The Hungarian Sony support was big ****, and the Hungarian warranty service doesn't want to help, even though I told them it's the phone no longer a warranty, all I'm asking is that you help me identify the test point.
But no, they're just indoctrinate me, and they think it can only be repaired by replacing a motherboard.
Yesterday I bought a Xiaomi MI Note 10 phone. It's awesome.
I hope the russel5's [Treble/Pie/XZ1c] crDroid will be there as well.
I liked this ROM, but the disabled SeLinux is a big problem, I think the problematic apk is because of what killed the phone. The STOCK and [Treble/Pie/XZ1c] AOSP Extended ROM did not start the apk, even though i gave him root right.
I think the CrDroid ROM's disabled SeLinux let it run.
Maybe the apk was infected, but I use Malwerbyte and Kaspersky.
The Apk name is ROEHSOFT PARTITION TOOL SD-USB and I download from the Aptoide.
I know I'm a ****ing idiot.
Partition program should not have been downloaded from there.
