HI All,
I'm sure it's been asked but i can't find it via search. Any way to disable the updates so that I don't have to worry about losing the root? I have the I537 TFTHIA

In titanium backup, freeze or uninstall the system app called FOTA

[Q] Does 4.3 OTA kill Geohot's Active Root?

That's the question. Update downloaded ok but I did not install it as I did not want to lose Root access. I have not seen anyone who used Geohot's Active Root to root their phone get the OTA installed.
I have a ton of stuff quarantined (what happens to them? Do they get released/un-quarantined?)
I have other programs that only work with root access such as Ti Backup and AdAway. Will they just cease to function?

You might want to be careful with that. From what I've read in the S4 forums after some unknown amount of time the update will install itself. The only known way to prevent it it to freeze wssync with Titanium Backup. If it never prompts you to install the update you're probably fine, but if it does I'd look into the TiBu option.

Install specific update possible?

Hello everyone,
I just ordered me a Z1 and it comes with Android 4.2 included. Not there is already an update possible to 4.4 (Kitkat). But what I want is to go to Version 4.3 of android because of the permission manager. Is there any way to install the specific update? In Version 4.4 the permission manager was removed again. Probably it will never come back
Thanks!!
Best,
Fresh
Yes, use flashtool.net
But what do you mean "Permission manager"

I think he is referring about SD Permission...
no, I have read about the (hidden) possibility in 4.3 to manage apps permissions like disallow GPS for apps and so on like on iOS.

Still unsure what you mean. I have not read anything like that specific for 4.3, can you share a link as to where you read it.

App Ops are present in 4.4.2 too. You have to use an app like this AppOps to find the hidden feature
But in 4.4.2 you need to root your device. In the past versions it was possible without root access...

..anyway, your question was answered, you have to use latest flashtool and there is no way to update to 4.3 via PC Companion or OTA by selecting the FW as they always give the latest.
Still don't understand, if you have use Flashtool, why you don't want Rooted 4.4. Don't worry, your warranty will not be voided and you will have more fun.

[Q] Diable 5.1 update on rooted Pure?

I have a rooted stock ROM Pure and I want to avoid the 5.1 update for a couple of reasons.
Does anyone know how to disable the update process on these devices?
TIA

Disable MotorolaOTA in the system apps in settings. If you're rooted, you can freeze it in the /system folder using Titanium or whatever else you use. Safest thing to do is to rename it with a .bak at the end, then when you're ready to update you just remove it and reboot.

Thanks for the reply. I froze it with Ti Backup, but I'm still able to check for updates manually and it reports normally.
Shouldn't that function be disabled if the OTA apparatus is truly disabled?
I do see in firewall a process called 'Device Management that I thought I could block MotorolaOTA from communicating, but there are other functions bundled, so I don;t want to do that.
Ideas, anyone?

Motorola will still be able to be communicated to, but the OTA function will be disabled, eg. no OTA will be detected. It is my understanding that blocking MororolaOTA just keeps the notification from appearing and prevents OTA downloads.

Thanks again - that makes sense. I'll see the rollout on my stock Pure (if I still have it and decide not to sell it) and be able to compare in real-time if it does the trick.

you can backup all your data to SD card from Settings
This won't do copy 1to 1. Back in settings does not do back up like titanium backup. All app i will have to download and install. Apps which aren't in play store or cracked apps won't be install. Plus all internal settings in each app won't be safe. This backup in settings is useless.

Yes. then try Migrate app or Swift Backup. I think that's what you need.

Thank you for answer. Do those apps need root access? I have forgotten to mention apps need to work without root
