softy brick after root attempt (T815) - Galaxy Tab S2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Everybody !!
I really need help
I just got my T815 (Austria),and I tried to root it.
I read through all the tutorials for this, also Im not new to this, yet it seems I screwed up somewhere.
Here is what I did (to my tab) :
* Downloaded Odin 3.10.xx
* Downloaded sm-t815_cf_autoroot.tar
* Firmware on the tab was 5.0.2 (also did a OTA update before rooting)
* Flashed the sm-t815_cf_autoroot.tar with odin
Rebooted, everything was okay, there was also superuser installed already
* flashed twrp_2.8.6.3_LL_5.0.2_t815.tar
* rebooted into recovery, looked really great (compared to my old CWM on my old tab)
* then I did a full wipe,so I can start over now with the rooted tab.
yet when I rebooted,I just see the white on black (Galaxy Tab S2...) and thats it.
I cant even turn the thing off .
I can get into download mode.
Tried to flash T815XXU1AOI5_T815OXA1AOI5_T815XXU1AOI5_HOME.tar.md5 yet it says
SW REV. CHECK FAIL DEVICE : 2 , BINARY : 1
All I can do now with the device is :
* Boot into DownloadMode
* When I flash twrp_2.8.6.3_LL_5.0.2_t815,I can also access the twrp recovery
but thats all
When I reboot I only see the white on black ,thats all,I cant even turn it off
any ideas ???
help is HIGHLY appreciated !!!

well... I was quite sure Im F*****D even after 3h googeling and flashing stuff... yet it seems it wasnt enough time spend on research.
I managed to bring my tab back from the dead... I found a firmware that was flashable, and now its like nothing ever has happend.
Rooted/Recovery.. everything is okay.
So pleae consider this thread closed,I dont know how to delete it myself.
pS:
What I hate most are posts where ppl ask stuff, then close it themself and say..."nevermind.. I fixed it" without posting the solution.. so I wont do that too
My solution was :
Flashing : T815XXU2AOJ4_T815ATO2AOJ1_T815XXU2AOJ4_HOME.tar.md5
It seems this is newer (version) than the ones I tried to flash,so it was accepted by the device.

I fall in the same condition, i flash the same firmware and odin say it is all ok and the firmware it is charged correctly but i'm in bootloop again.
any idea? no way to go in recovery mode, only download mode

Reboot your device into Android Recovery Mode: For smartphones >> by pressing and holding Volume Up and Home buttons together and then hold the Power key till screen shows the Samsung logo. Release the power button but keep the other two keys pressed until you see a black screen with green Android bot and blue text. For Galaxy Tab or Note 10.1 >> press and hold the Volume Down + Power keys together for a few seconds until you see the yellow triangle with Android bot followed by a black screen with blue text.
Once in recovery mode, use the Volume Up/Down keys to scroll up or down, and use the Power button to select any option.
Perform the wipe operations by scrolling down to wipe data/factory reset option and select yes to confirm the process. Next, go to wipe cache partition and confirm it.
Once done, go to the reboot system. Then you flash via odin any frimware for your model.

Thanks but the problem is to go to recovery mode. I can't shut down the tablet. The only think i can do is to go in download mode pushing power+down+home button. No others combinations is accepted. I try to discharge the tablet and then insert the cable pushing the correct combination for recovery mode but it don't work.

Its different on a newer Galaxy Tab.
My Note 8.0 i.e. goes "Power button + Volume Up" into recovery.
But on the Tab S2 ,you have to press "home+power+volume down",and the second the screen goes black, you have to press volume up,then recovery is loading (red text in the upper left => then release all buttons). Otherwise the download mode loads again.
Took me a while to figure this out.
If your using TWRP,you can power down your device there if your still caught in a bootloop (i.e. you cant flash the firmware because of a version mismatch, like it was in my case)
It was kinda scary when my tab all of a sudden didnt accept the firmware I was able to flash before.
But I guess the OTA update changed the version,so I had to find a firmware that matches that.
Im quite sure yours isnt hard brick as well, just be patient, there is almost always a way to fix it !!

Just curious. I own a sm-t710. WiFi model but have similar issue. I keep getting error in Odin under boot. Is that the error you were getting?

Not the same error. Odin tell me it is all OK but I can't came out from the bootloop. I can reach only the black and white screen or download mode, not in recovery.

have you tried to flash twrp and tried again to get into recovery ??

I have twrp working but just can't flash with odin. Maybe I will try other firmwares to see if that works. I will also try to copy them to sd card and flash with twrp. At work now so will try tonight.

It's a bit pointless stating you get an error in Odin without actually providing any screenshots or information as to what the error is.

yes i try but don't work. odin say it is all ok with the recovery but i continue to be stucked in logo screen.

The firmware is being rejected because it is not compatible with your device. Download the exact firmware for your device region.

Firmware is correct for my device and region. Thank you for the response though

Odin only rejects images if the signature is wrong or it is corrupted.
Seeing as it passed the md5 check it must be the wrong firmware for your device. I suggest you flash the OJ4 firmware.
If it isn't then you have big problems as the only other explanation is a broken emmc.
Which country did you buy this tablet?

As far as firmware seems correct. Got it from Sam's mobile. Hope the broken emmc is not the case. If it is can that be fixed? Damn. Tablet will be a week old tomorrow

It could be wrong region since I installed roms labeled unknown since on Sam's mobile didn't see one for USA

If it's USA then you need XAR (CELLULAR SOUTH)

I dropped it off at local repair shop which deals with iPhones and android. I just called them and they said they couldn't do anything. Do I have any options besides using it as a paper weight. Anyone that deals with these repairs?,, I will try to flash XAR file when I get home but with work can't spend too much time on it. I'm running Windows on a mac mini and that is where I have Odin installed. Do you think that may be an issue?

FAQ
Will it work for new stock gingerbread, ics, custom, cyanogen, miui and other firmware?
All gingerbread ROMs and ICS except CLP5 and CLP6 (some users report about incompatibility). Better don't use this reset counter instruction if you have those ICS ROMs.
Do I need root for this?
No.
Does not work, yellow triangle is not disappeared!
Carefully follow all 10 points of instruction.
I am having trouble, black screen after a 10th point!
Try reboot your device. Remove battery for 10 seconds and plug it back.
Odin can't recognize USB plug at 4 or 8 point. + Windows can't detect device or identifies as "Unknown device".
Try another USB port. Try reinstall kies or remove it and install only galaxy note drivers (link1, link2). If not helped try another PC.
Will this work on the Galaxy S2 or Galaxy Nexus?
No! You will break your phone. Works and tested for GT-N7000 and GT-I9220.
Will this work on the SGH-I717 (AT&T)?
Not tested yet.
Will I have a problem with a warranty? Can they identify the use of this counter reset?
There is absolutely no chance to detect this binary reset at service center.
Does it clear counter as well ?

Why is it so troublesome? I thought it is exactly same as Galaxy S2...just plug in the usb jig when the phone is off, then it will boot to download mode, and reset the binary counter + remove triangle....

1. After doing this procedure, do we lose root and CWM? If so, How do we get them back? zergrush?
2. I have a jig that works with my SGS, but it doesn't "appear" to work with my Note. Is there any way to tell if it actually works before I start flashing foreign bootloaders?
TIA!

Very strange... I followed all instructions exactly, both flashes completed successfully (Odin says SUCCESS), and everything went according to plan...
EXCEPT... the yellow triangle is still there at the end!

There must be hope for my 2x that just kinda bricked.

Okay. I really don't feel comfortable trying new stuff without searching everything about it, so I must say I was pretty informed on flashing a new ROM on my 2x.
So I downloaded Rom Manager and flashed Clockworkmod Recovery. Every tutorial I read said I needed to backup my ROM. Also, they said I had to back it up manually, by booting into system recovery, pressing volume down + power, and I kinda ignored that.
I saw the option "Back up existing ROM" or something like that on ROM Manager, so I tried that. My phone rebooted, shown the LG logo, and then it went black and freezed. You can tell the phone is on because the screen stays black, but you can see some backlight. Also, the settings, home, back and search buttons are lit up.
I have to remove the battery to turn it off. I tried booting into recovery with the vol. down + power (I even tried vol. up... and both up and down + power) but it keeps giving me the black screen.
I looked up on the internet to see if someone had the same problem... no one had, apparently.
Sooooo I decided it was time to ask in a forum. Please try to help me, I need my phone working as soon as possible and sorry for my bad english

HeadbangerHS don't be disheartened. Here is a link below which will link u to Smartflash tool which will help you in flashing ur Optimus 2x back to life.Extreme caution is advised.Do at ur own risk. Not to be held responsible for bricking ur device.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1008070
If u r unable to download smartflash firmware from the above link another link is attached below. Here u will be able to download firmware according to ur region.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1035041
Note in smartflash tool u will have 2 options to select file.CP bin & AP bin.If u download firmware according to ur region u will have 2 files CP.fls and AP.bin.So CP.fls will go in CP.bin option and AP file in AP.bin option. You will have a factory installed device ( data in internal SD will be erased in the above procedure).
Hope this will help.Happy flashing and be careful to follow instructions:good:

Have you done the KDZ procedure? I had to do it when I started playing with ROMs, and I have to say that you need a computer with Windows XP to do it, I tried with 7 in 2 machines and it did not work. Another thing: you have to remove the battery and plug in the usb while holding the volume down rocker.
Also, are you sure clockwork mod is not working? You cant release the power and volume down rocker until it boots into clockwork mod.

Yes, I tried the KDZ, but on a windows 7. I'll try it on my pc (where I use windows XP).
What happened on the windows 7 is that the phone DIDN'T GO INTO SW UPGRADE screen. And I removed the battery and everything.
Clockwork mod isn't working.
but thank you, I will try it here on my XP once I finish downloading everything again

I has to go into de SW Upgrade screen. Again, no battery, hold volume down (and do not let it go until the SW upgrade screen shows up), plug in usb.
This mode is OS independent, even if you plug the usb on a wall charger (I tested it and it worked), it HAS to get into this recovery mode.
That what you want to see (not my picture, took from Google Images):

I have tried many searches here, and on other forums. I've spent hours already on google but I just can't find a solution to my problem(s).
I decided to completely wipe my phone through ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.0.5 as it had been running quite slow. I performed a data/factory reset and I wiped cache partition, Davlik cache and battery stats.
I reboot the system and it was stuck on the boot screen with the samsung logo. Every time I tried to reboot it was the same. Removed battery, same. My laptop and Odin also won't recognize the phone even as a storage drive. Navigating to storage through ClockworkMod shows "unknown volume for path"
I have tried everything I could find information on to get the phone to boot but nothing works. Is this a common problem? I really have no idea what to do next. Do I have a brick on my hands?
Thanks.

Can you go into download mode or not? I had almost the same problem, then I tried to install cwm using odin but it turns out I used the wrong version of cwm recovery (not for use with odin). When I pressed start in odin and it said "FAILED" I thought I just had to disconnect my phone and try it another way but it turns out I now don't even get that logo. only a weird phone image warning image and computer image. meaning the phone isn't connected to the computer. I had similar kind of problems when i tried to flash a stock rom via odin. I completed it without errors. But when i tried to wipe data/factory reset in cwm5, i got an error E: Cant mount /cache/command.
And when i reboot the device, it got stuck on the logo. Tried several times but didn't worked.
Finally i solved the problem by flashing bootloader via odin accessing download mode using three button combo. I am not an expert to solve your problem but i hope this info helps you...

Are you sure you can't acces the download mode using three button combo. If then try using a jig to access the download mode. Search for it and you will get a detail 'how to' guide. Hope i helped

Hi guys,
First of all: I'm italian, sorry about my bad bad english, I'll try to stay as straight as I can.
I'm in need for some help about an issue with my SGS, and I think it's a problem we can relate with these you posted before.
Long story short, I've got a loop problem as well.
I had mounted cyanogenmod9 on my phone, and It worked perfectly until last night, when i did simply try to charge the battery and the phone started looping over the charging mode (it was off, the battery was completely empty before I plugged the phone with the charger)
No recovery mode available, at the time.
So i decided, as long as download mode was working to re-flash with odin the ClockWorkMode recovery.
And...it worked.:good:
But now my phone is still in loop, because as jabrif said:

Make sure your laptop has a latest version of odin and samsung drivers. Remove your phone battery for about 2 minutes. Insert it back and press and hold vol-down, home and power buttons. If you can get in to the download mode the device will detect in odin.
Hope this thread will be useful for you. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016497

You have to flash Boot_loader.tar for your sgs via odin. Make sure the device has enough battery (say 70%)

What you could try is get 2.3.6 ready in Odin, plug the phone into your computer via USB, insert the battery and go into download mode. Then as soon as you see the download icon in the phone, quickly click start in Odin.
This could keep the phone on as theoretically, a new firmware is being installed wiping the old firmware? Worth a shot?

If you do the download button combo, does the download icon show before reboot? It should still...
Use these firmwares and guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881 I would probably re-partition and use the 512 pit file too.

[Q] [I9001] SGS+ bricked/broken

Hey guys,
I own a SGS+ and tried to flash a ROM a few month ago.
Not sure which one it was in particular but it was a 4.1.2 ROM.
Normally it worked pretty well but that time it broke my phone apparently.
So now a few month later I tried to get it to work again.
My phone stucks at the splashscreen, easy said.
It boots till the splash screen and then it's on for about 3-4 minutes I guess and then the screen turns off.
But apparently it still runs because if I try to start it again over the power button it doesn't work.
I have to remove the battery, insert it again and then I can use the power button.
I tried several things and I'm out of information here.
So maybe one of you guys can help me out here?
Thanks for reading!
Try wiping cache an dalvik cache and fix permissions. If that doesn't help do a full wipe and install a new rom. If it still doesn't work, flash a stock rom via odin. Also, which recovery are you using?
Sent from my GT-I9001 using xda app-developers app
Already did everything you mentioned, multiple times.
Well I used at first CWM 6.0.1.2 then switched to 6.0.2.8, then 6.0.3.2, then 6.0.3.6 and then TWRP 2.4.0.0 and TWRP 2.6.0.0.
I tried those who should be for the bricked phones.
Try to flash a new kernel, then flash a new ROM. You should be able to get into download mode...

That's not the problem.
I can get into download mode, I could get into download mode all the time.
I don't think you got my problem right:
My phone stucks at the splash screen.
Doesn't turn off only screen turns off but the phone is still running.
I can only reboot if I take the battery out.
So it boots up to the splashscreen and stucks.
I flashed a few new roms and nothing worked.
If you can get into download mode, try flahing a stock rom via odin.

Maybe you didn't flash appropriate ROM for your device. Read this thread, especially the first post by our forum mate xsensman and try to check if it could be concerning also your device:

Mate, something is strange there. With splashscreen you mean bootloop, right? So you see the logo, but the phone doesn't really loads the Android?
OK, here we go: please remove the battery and write down your serial No and google a bit is it really i9001? There are about 20 different types of SGS so just to make sure which model do you have.
That bootloop can happen for several reasons, but I would assume that in your case it happens either for:
bootloader isn't working properly
you haven't flashed the proper ROM for your device.
I suspect very strongly the bootloader, so re-flashing the bootloader via Odin, theoretically, should revive your phone. Just check (as written above) do you REALLY have i9001, (as otherwise -if not- you could brick it with the bootloader for i9001):
First post, "5. Follow the instruction" (all files there)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32144697
I'm 100% sure that I have a real i9001, not a special edition or something like that.
And I flashed before it got broken a few month and the roms worked just fine.
Well but then it broke somehow.
I just see that my phone with the CWM-Recovery can't format /data and hangs.
Can't do anything unless I remove the battery and boot up again.
Could this be a hint for you guys?

I have no idea what may that be, but are you sure your phone is bricked?
Have you tried to use normal TWRP 2.6 instead of that one for bricked phones?
I don't know, but maybe this helps:
Guide: How to Recover from a bootloop http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660596
@tetakpatak: Yes, I did it like the post "suggested".
@3L4CK_5C0RP10N: No, I'm actually not sure, that's why I wrote "bricked/broken".
I'm not the best guy at those things as you can guess.
No, I didn't tried the normal one, gonna try it now, atleast it's worth trying.
I read the post you linked me here and tried those things, unfortunately nothing happened.
Even tried it with ADB, also no solution found there.
But thanks already for the work guys!
suggest you try the following:-
1) power it down, remove battery, remove SIM card and Ext SD card and press and hold your power button for at least 30 seconds to a min, before reinserting battery and entering CWM recovery
2) In CWM recovery, enter Mounts and Storage and Format every partition, that can be formatted, repeat it twice ( You will lose all your data ) meaning you will be trying to get a clean environment for a fresh start. Do not reboot but pull out battery, press power for a few seconds and insert battery.
If you need your data, in mounts and storage, enter usb storage, here with usb connected to PC you can copy your entiere internal SDcard to PC, for salvage later.
