Anyone noticing a screen door effect with their LCD screen? Mine definitely has it, wondering if this is normal. My last two phones have been AMOLED, so I'm not sure.
Do you mean like this?
Nexus 4 has a pattern on the display.
(I'm trying to consolidate all these threads as more and more people finally get their hands on the phone)

No, it's not dots like the digitizer. It's very fine horizontal and vertical lines like seen on some cheap TN panel monitors.
Unfortunately it's so fine I doubt I could capture it with a picture. But it seems to detract from the sharpness of the screen.
Guessing it's just me. I assume if I think my Galaxy Nexus screen looks better than the Nexus 4, then I probably got a defective Nexus 4. RMA time it seems.
I'm cursed. Had to RMA my Galaxy Nexus a couple times because of the purple effect. My Nexus 7 because of the lifted glass, now this. Ugh.
If I look close, I can make out a very slight screen door effect at times. I'm guessing all of them have this to some extent, but maybe it's worse on yours if it's so noticeable as to bother you.

Is it as bad as the pentile screens like gs3 or note?

Can't see it at all on mine, although I'm coming from a 50 dollar cheapo Optimus V so this thing just looks incredible no matter what lol

Well good news for me, I no longer see this issue on my screen. It seems to have cleared up and it looks sharp and clear now. *Whew* I'm happy and love the screen.

I can definitely see it on mine, grays make it pop out more. It's not too bad to warrant the hassle of trying an exchange, though.
Not sure why it would clear up by itself, but if it does I am not gonna mind it
My LG thrill has that, and so does the HTC inspire.
Its normal I guess

No way, not even close to as bad as pentile.
I also see these vertical lines. Been driving me crazy when I focus on them. No worries though. Great phone.

You are right, it didn't. I think after using a while, I started seeing past it. Then I was messing around with my Galaxy Nexus and tablet. Then went back to the phone and I can notice those lines again.
It also depends on what I'm looking at. It really stands out looking at the XDA forums, on the brown colors (I'm using the XDA 2010 theme).
Has anyone noticed that the digitizer (or what I think is the digitizer) in the Nexus 7 is actually visible? I noticed this yesterday when I was at a Christmas party and the room was brightly lit. I was looking at the screen while it was off, and noticed a grid of small dots covering the entire screen. I checked on my phone (Nexus S 4G) and no such grid was visible. I thought the digitizer was only visible (and even then, only sometimes) on resistive touch screens. Hmm...
i tried to replicate it and couldnt, maybe the light wasnt bright enough. Would be intreresting tho
this is true of a HUGE number of phones. It has a lot to do with the digitizer technology used as well as how close the digi is to the lcd and the light in the room and several other minor factors. look at an HD2 and youll see it too.
I can see the digitiser on my HOX too. I've not noticed it so much on my other devices. Maybe its more obvious when the glass is bonded to the screen as it is in both of these? How about the newer devices with the touch layer integrated with the screen? It's certainly not an issue in use for me thorough (the fact that the screen gets so sticky with use on my n7 is fairly annoying though. Sector Strike is much easier on the HOX, the oleophobic coating must be pretty effective, even if the screen still looks greasy after use)
Yeah its common. My inspire has it as well. Think its called the pentile matrix.

Yeah, shine a lamp on it with the screen off if you want to see it. Same on the Transformer Infinity, though a it's different pattern.
My SGS3 doesn't have it, that's why I was like wtf when I noticed in on my N7.

yeap sadly when that cracks its all over
Only newer nexus 7 model has it, my launch model didn't have them.

Sorry, pentile has nothing to do with the digitizer. Pentile is a type of arrangement of the subpixels on some displays.

Its only the first series. The newer nexus 7 don't have this problem. I ordered both of mine off play store a month ago and neither have that issue. Stores still have old stock.

Slightly confused here, but it seems like you got the older stock, Gizmoe?
Only got mine today, and I can see the digitizer very easily, in the right conditions. I did get mine from ebay though (BNIB), so who knows :/
Is there any other way to find out what model we have?
Those little dots are actually connected by really thin lines forming an offset square pattern (you can actually see it in the right conditions), that's what a digitizer uses to register input. Every capacitive display i've seen has that. It's more visible if you look at a slight angle from the side of the screen with the light shining from the opposite direction.
The dots are more visible because they reflect more light, but in really bright light you can see the lines also.

Yes I see what's confusing. I meant the other response for a different post and only realized it after you pointed it out. I was referring to the floating screen not the dots. Wrong thread. I do not see dots on mine though, although on my inspire they are very easily noticeable.

I've noticed a pattern on every single capacitive device I've used. Palm pixi, GS3, NS4G, N7, square iPod nano, iPod Touch and iPhone all have had it. So I'm pretty sure it there on every single screen you just have to get the right angle of the screen with the light for it to be visible.

Hey Guys. Is this the same as seeing several horizontal lines if you tilt the screen? Is that what you call a digitzer?
Bought one a couple of weeks ago and I can see it too when the screen is dark, the full pattern across the screen. Can also see a white glow on the right side of the screen when booting when the screen is dark, not sure if that's a screen problem though..
Does anyone else with a black HTC One have stuck or dead pixels in the upper left hand corner of the screen. I've had 2 Stealth Black HTC One's and both have had a stuck pixel in the upper left hand corner in portrait mode. The first one just had one. The one I have now has 3. Maybe it was a bad batch of lcd's? Anyone else seeing this? Even on a silver one? Is annoying. I called HTC about it and they told me to run dead pixel remover. Of course that didn't work. I think I'm going to have to send it to them, but I've heard so many horror stories about their rma that I'm afraid it's not worth it. I don't want to get it back s-on with 1.54 hboot.

Same here, black and stick pixel in top-left... Is a defect, but not enough for me to return it. Barely visible, and only on a very dark colour visible

My lower microphone stopped working and I contacted Tmo about it and they sent me a replacement phone. The power button on the replacement didn't have a click to it, it was soft and did not work most of the time and the screen had a yellowish or orangish tint to it compared to my original One. I contacted them and I sent back the replacement and they sent me another. This one seems functional button wise, but has the same yellowish/orange tint to the screen.
Are they replacing them with crappy screens or are they like that new? I really hate to give up my pristine phone (minus the broken mic) with a sharp bright screen (compared to the replacements) for some refurb with a sub par screen. I also have the extra warranty on it so that I can get a brand new one for $135 or something, but I am concerned no matter what I am going to get the crappy screen and have to pay for it. Whereas I can swap mine for a new/like new one from warranty? Is it possible to swap the screens? Can I send it to HTC to have them fix the mic? I can live without the phone for a week or two (have my old Sensation 4G). Having my original phone rooted, S-off, Super CID, running ARHD 20.x wouldn't have an affect on the screen color would it? It currently has 4.12 on it and my orig phone is running 4.3.
Thanks in advance!
Just send it in to htc

I am on the phone with HTC now and he says that if the bootloader is unlocked, the warranty is voided. He put me on hold to see if I will be wasting my time sending it to them.
Well that plan is out the window! He said he could not be sure if it would be covered, but he felt like they would not fix it and return it as soon as they saw it was unlocked on HTCDev.
Ok, so back to swapping screens...
TBH I had the exact same thing happen. My camera started having black spots and I got it replaced. I'm on the third one now and its a little yellower than mine but there isn't a single seam. So I said screw it, once the N5 comes out I am selling and upgrading to it. Thought about the G2 as well, but I'm not sure.

Sometimes the yellow tint is from the glue and it gets better after about a week of use. Some are just yellow though. How I know this is I had two ones. My black one was a lot more yellowish when I first got it to my silver one. I had read that sometimes it's the glue that causes it and after use it will become whiter. I was skeptical but I wanted to see of I could see any difference. To speed up the process I got one of those dead pixel apps that cycles though different colors really fast. I plugged the phone in and ran it for about 4 hours.
My results shocked me. My black one after that had a much whiter look to it and now my silver appeared to be more yellow compared. So in the end my black one ended up being brighter and having whiter whites.

They dont even look at that if the problem you are having has NOTHING to do with anything that unlocking the bootloader could possibly break. If you bricked your phone, then they check. I'm not guaranteeing that they do, but they say that it "MAY" void your warranty. For example, if your power button stops working, then they dont care. Same with your case. Unlocking the bootloader has nothing at all to do with the screen being yellow.

This happened on the iphone 5 as well. I think they're just newer units.
I am giving the stuck pixel app a shot now. Hopefully it will whiten it up the screen! I will report back later about whether it helped or not.

if you are insured, u could always smash the sh#t out of it and claim for a new one lol!!!!
But if I opt for the insurance, I may still get a phone with a yellowish screen. Then I just spent $150 to get a phone I could have gotten for free through warranty.

Which Nexus 5 did you go for? Black or White.
Personally I went for the White one, it reminds me of a Range Rover Overfinch paint job it's just the matte white and then the shiny black, it's beautiful!
Not only is this a question it's a discussion about people's favourite Nexus 5 colour, which is why it's posted in General
I love white cover in smartphone and when I saw the white nexus5 the choice was obliged
I ordered the white one a few minutes ago
The sole reason i went for it is because of the dual colour combination that gives it a look
if the front were also white i would have gone with the black one
Im getting a black one !
I personally got a white one. It was a hard choice but after looking at both, the white really grew on me. I think the white earpiece looks unique. I also ordered a case so the back getting dirty is the last thing I think about
Went with the white because I could get the phone in 3 days rather than 3 weeks. If lead times were equal I'd have gone with the black because I like the rubberized texture better.

I got the black one, the soft touch feels better imo.
Also black for me, just a matter of preference. Though from what I've been reading, black's soft plastic back gives a better grip than the white back.
I got black but only because the shop didn't have any white ones.
I ordered the white one as well

Black, because every review raved about the soft touch back and I wanted to try it myself. Glad I did.

Ordered white last night since it looked to ship the soonest. Color didn't really matter to me since I was fine with either.
ordered white, was initially for my girlfriend... but I let her take my N4.
Hands aren't always clean due to my occupation and it's leaving marks.
White. Because I know fingerprints/oil on the back of the Black version would drive me absolutely nuts.
Because OCD.
