Camera Flash Disabled - question - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Often when I am taking photos the flash setting will turn from auto to off because the phone says it is too hot. However, this temperature threshold seems to be very low... the phone does not seem to be that hot at all. Is there a way to override this and has anyone run into it?

auto brightness problems?

Unlike in 2.1, when im in full sunlight 2.2 doesnt go to full brightness so i have to take it off AB and set it to max to see the screen, Also at night with zero light it does not go to minimum brightness. Some people have said that they believe in 2.2 the max brightness has increased so i thought maybe thats why it doesnt max out automatically (maybe it goes to what the max was in 2.1 which was nearly visible outside) but the level it auto-sets in full sunlight leaves the screen not visible so either the max brightness has not increased or else the auto brightness has been altered (poorly)
Has anyone else noticed this and do you think that its attributable to it being the test version?
I also noticed that pressing the touchscreen, particularly in the browser takes a couple presses to activate a link. Im hoping this is due to the test version and not flash, i like having flash on (not on-demand) and i dont mind waiting a few extra seconds for the entire page to load, i just hope it isnt messing with the browser ui.
Again this could and probably will all be fine when the official version rolls out im just looking for some input...

I'm on 2.1 and I have found that the automatic brightness is nowhere near as bright in bright sunlight as setting brightness to 100% manually..

Xperia Z strange brightness issue when device temperature raises

Hello,
I noticed that when my xperia z gets warmer or hot due to a heavier use, the screen brightness fades a little and then goes back to the original value when the device temperature drops.
Autobrightness setting is turned OFF and the level is manually set at 80% brightness.
Has anyone else noticed the same ?

Yes same here, my brightness level does not increase after 85% but that's not the problem actually.
The problem appears after reaching certain temperature level, the screen dims a little and then goes back to original value when when temperature drops. I'm wondering if the running background process called " OVERHEAT CONTROL " has anything to do with it.
Maybe it is a factory setting to compensate for battery durability when in heavy use. I have reported this issue to the official SONY forums too and if there is no answer i am thinking to write directly to SONY.
Brightness level due to heat controls in sysmon.cfg file, in etc folder. This brightness dimming is really annoying me too, so i decided to change the values to my discretion. I did so on my previous phone, Xperia T, and had no problems with it. So, after this changes brightness becomes dimmer not so fast, and after a good heat. You can download attached file and take a look at changes that i done, and decide for yourself, to do or not to do. This file is from .434 f/w.
Anyway, whatever you do you do at your own risk!

No, not at the moment. I'll try to tweak the brightness settings and see what will come out of it. Are you satisfied with 85% brightness level ??? For me that level is quite enough bright and works nicely at daylight and even in direct sun, i can clearly see anything on my display.

Camera Flicker - Anybody else had it?

Since getting the phone I've noticed that the camera picture flickers to start with then re-focuses and smooths out.
This happens on Google Camera, in picture & video mode. Seems to also occur in snapchat etc.
Running unlocked and rooted stock 5.0.1 rom with lean kernel. As I said before I think the phone did it when I first got it too.
Here is a quick video which shows for the first few seconds the flicker. (this can sometimes last much longer).
Anybody else had this or know the cause?

The flickering is due to the antibanding filter trying to adjust to the frequency of the light bulbs (60 Hz in the US and 50 Hz in Europe).
Some camera apps allow to manually set the filter (60 Hz, 50 Hz or Auto) but the Google Camera app seem to only allow auto filtering.
You could try with other camera apps from the play store and manually adjust the frequency filter to match that of your country.

Outdoor Mode (hidden brightness menu, WHY?)

title says it all, why is this hidden and can only be accessed thru settings, and it's not a one time toggle, you'd have to go into settings every time you pull your phone out. just why? would be great for the brightness slider to just go to max instead. anyone know if theres any mods for this? or just what this is about, seems strange.
i dont have this mode
what android version u have

I cannot find this mode on my Exynos Note 8! Have you flashed another rom?

Mine always stays where ever put the slider. But then, I have auto brightness off.
Yeah what version you got? Wish we had outside mode.
I have a 950F exynos 128 GB, and It does not have such setting...
Because it's samsung. They will probably never make a good software. Just search for "automatic brightness bug". They just ignored this problem. No wonder they just hidding that option.
Outdoor mode can be enabled by editing something in system folder. Most of custom firmwares provides that function.
I've never seen that setting on mine. It's automatic for me.

IT is not a bug, and yes, there are ways to increase brightness beyond standard maximum, I remember from the days of my note 3, that many people posted very bad screen burn in and excesive batt drain when changing the lines to attain the most bright screen possible, same applies to speakers, might as well get blown, The auto brightness in note 8, in fact is very well implemented, because it learns your preferences, that is, if set to auto, and you move the slider, whenever the phone detects the same lux level, it will set the level you chose, infact, when in autobrightness, when sensing too much light, it will set an extra ammount of brightness

Agreed. Works very well. Was using GPS Google maps for the first time yesterday, screen was automatically too bright. I used slider to lower brightness, it learned my preference.

Since long I haven't seen any Note device (at least International versions) have Outdoor mode enabled by default unless you are using custom ROM. But this mode i have seen available on low range samsung devices. Actually it is hidden and one minor change in settings app enough to enable outdoor mode.
I will try to make small app without making changes in setting app, though it might needed root access.
Thank you dr ketan! I have used your excellent roms and kernels in my note 3 and 4
As I said y'day, I have made and posted Outdoor mode Tool on my Facebook wall.

hey something cool came out of this post, awesome!
so the app acts like a toggle to turn on the outdoor mode, pretty cool!
Works perfectly. Thank you.
Have noticed this mod seems to time out after 15 minutes or so. Any workaround for this?
@ dr.Ketan: since updating to oreo your app does not work anymore... do you have a solution?
THX in advance!
I am on oreo too and working fine. Check you have granted su permission

Question Max brightness

Well I have a question.
Is it possible that the display is quite dimm even under direct sunlight and auto mode?
My gfs iPhone 12 pro max got a way brighter screen.
I'm really honest the longer I'm using this device the more unimpressed I am.
It's already dimmer than every flagship right now and it's even dimming more while gaming...
I really don't know what to think about this mobile anymore. So much which leaks way behind my expectations...
Anyone who got similar thoughts maybe?
Best regards
Turn auto brightness of and enable the following:
Settings -> Display -> Brightness Level -> Sunlight Mode on
Does it work?
Hello, thx for your reply. Already did this but seems like it's not working it's still dim. I also have lots of dust in the camera, I think I need to replace it with another one...
