Okay, for some time now, the last few ROMs i have flashed to my TP, I have no sound coming from the speakers. Headphones and bluetooth headphones/speakers work just fine. What could be the issue here, what can I try to fix this issue? I believe this issue started from ICS and now even Marshmallow. Anyone else having this problem?? Any troubleshooting tips to possibly fix this issue? On the WebOS side, speakers work like a champ, so I'm wondering if it's codec, kernel/ROM related etc??
Update: So after plugging headphones in, leaving them in after a reboot, and taking them in, the sound came back up again...haha smh, weird stuff, but I guess I'll take it haha
I think it was the reboot. My sound often dies if I start or stop a video a few times (VLC, youtube, netflix). Some days once is all it takes.

I'm sure most of you will be aware with the horrible sound issue that plagued webos after the 3.0.3 update where the touchpad would cut all sound without notice if headphones were plugged in or out or if you just looked at the device funny..
On cm9 however, I'm experiencing an issue with the sound that is worse. Whilst watching youtube videos or doing any activity where a sound is played, the speaker often "pops" once in the way you can faintly hear speakers even there is no input, regardless of whether headphones are plugged in or not. From then, the speaker no longer plays any sound of any sort.
Does anybody have a fix for this? I just lose sound randomly and sometimes even a reboot doesnt fix it. I know that CM9 is 'fullofbugs' and that the audio libs are a mess/broken, but I would just like to know if this is a common issue with a known fix! Thanks!

*Bump*
I am experiencing this as well running AOKP M4b28 - it only happens (or as much as I've noticed) when the screen goes to sleep while I have music playing.
Glad I'm not the only one.

I have the issue when the screen is off and volume is >= 50% Never had any sound probs with WebOS that I noticed.
From what I've read, it has been addressed and is a know issue. You've got to remember that this wan't meant to be an Android tablet, there WILL be bugs. They might eventually get fixed but, I'm not one to complain, I've got ICS on a tab that was never supposed to have Android to begin with lol
Lately I've been having issues with my phone recognizing headphones. Sometimes when I plug in the headphones, my phone still uses its speakers. A reboot solves this, so its not a big deal, but it is rather inconvenient since rebooting drains the battery quite a bit. Usually, this happens after I unplug my headphones once. When I plug them back in a few hours later, my phone doesn't register the headphones until I reboot.
I tried cleaning out the lint as other forum posts have suggested although I'm certain it's not a hardware problem. I'm not sure if its ROM specific, but if it matters I'm running the latest ICS BCM (3.3U1) from dk_zero-cool. I had this problem once before running CM7, but the problem came and went. I've been having this problem for a week now, which is longer than anytime before.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Did you try a different headphone
Sent from my HTC Nexus One
I have the same problem here, only a reboot will fix this problem. Seems that its ROM or driver related
Yes, I did try a few pairs of headphones, along with my car's audio cable. Same problem.
A rom/driver problem may be the issue, but after reflashing the rom after a full wipe, the problems still there.
I had that problem too. Turns out it was PowerAmp. The daemon that checks for headphone plug/unplug to stop/restart playback was screwing it up. I disabled those functions in the PowerAmp prefs and never had the problem again.
That's probably the problem. Doubletwist doesn't have that option though. I guess I'll try switching to poweramp and disabling that. Hopefully it works.
Yesterday I was playing some music through the speakers on my phone and the sound started to crackle, I just thought it was the app playing up so I just turned it off and thought nothing of it.
Later when I went to use the phone it didn't have any sound, so I tried adjusting the volumes up and down, re-flashing CM and clearing caches in vein. I then plugged my headphones in to see if they worked and found I could only hear them a little bit with the volumes set to max.
I'm now assuming the speaker amp has blown somehow, but not wanting to give up I tried calling someone and found the sound worked just fine for voice and so now I have no idea what the issue is.
Has anyone else had this problem? and how did you fix it?

Try going back to stock rom, and seeing if it works then
I have been using Atrix HD MB886 -unlocked- in India for nearly an year now
But Since CM11 M7 build - i have been facing wierd battery drain and problems with Audio(earpiece, speaker and headset)
I then flashed factory image
MB886_att-user-4.1.1-9.8.0Q-97_MB886
and also got updated to
98.4.20.MB886.ATT.en.US (latest OTA)
But the audio problem is still there
Ever since, the speaker sound and all the system sounds, including ringtones, call volume, etc go off by themselves randomly, so I can't hear anything when the phone rings, If by chance I pick up a call while in this state, I can't hear a word the person on the other side utters, but that person does hear me clearly.
Restarting the phone, the sound works perfectly, until for some unknown reason it goes off, and I have to repeat the whole process.
Reading through forums on the web, some people who have had the same problems report improvements and some very few even report having obtained solution to this persisting issue after installing the app "SoundAbout" from google play store. But no use for me.
I have tried nearly all ROMS for Atrix by now - but no relief.
Any fixes., ????!!!!!
im having the exact same problem with my atrix. Tried multiple roms incuding flashing back to stock. I assumed it was a hardware issue but restarting the phone fixes it. Iv also noticed sometimes the sound comes back by itself after a while, even without a reboot. I played songs with the audio muted for a continuous 8hrs and the sound was fine all the while. Anyone else have the same issue or possible reasons what might be causing this..???
HW problem
Hi, this is most likely a hardware issue.
I had same problem sometimes. When I hit the phone, at the top (not furiously), it started working again.
Most likely loose connection with speaker terminals.
you can open it and pull the speaker connectors.
so i plugged my (unrooted) N6 into my desktop last night to try to USB tether. Not only did the connection fail (all drivers are installed) but after disconnecting, The ringtones, dialtones, play music, and in-call audio through the earpiece stopped working. I later found out that the audio worked with speakerphone enabled but the mic was not responding. I went through all of Google's troubleshooting steps while chatting with support, performed a factory reset, and even went as far as manually re-installing the factory image (wiped the cache too), all to no avail. Then suddenly this morning just as i was about to RMA the handset with T-mo, it started working again. What i did notice is that the OS may be lowering the volume for these features to some undetectable level and then it gradually turns it up in use. Wondering if anyone has encountered this issue or maybe has some ideas about how to fix this because i am clueless about what happened...
Seriously this Nexus has big issue with the speaker. I see so many thread related to speaker issue....
It has to be all software related. WTH....
