I have been using Atrix HD MB886 -unlocked- in India for nearly an year now
But Since CM11 M7 build - i have been facing wierd battery drain and problems with Audio(earpiece, speaker and headset)
I then flashed factory image
MB886_att-user-4.1.1-9.8.0Q-97_MB886
and also got updated to
98.4.20.MB886.ATT.en.US (latest OTA)
But the audio problem is still there
Ever since, the speaker sound and all the system sounds, including ringtones, call volume, etc go off by themselves randomly, so I can't hear anything when the phone rings, If by chance I pick up a call while in this state, I can't hear a word the person on the other side utters, but that person does hear me clearly.
Restarting the phone, the sound works perfectly, until for some unknown reason it goes off, and I have to repeat the whole process.
Reading through forums on the web, some people who have had the same problems report improvements and some very few even report having obtained solution to this persisting issue after installing the app "SoundAbout" from google play store. But no use for me.
I have tried nearly all ROMS for Atrix by now - but no relief.
Any fixes., ????!!!!!
im having the exact same problem with my atrix. Tried multiple roms incuding flashing back to stock. I assumed it was a hardware issue but restarting the phone fixes it. Iv also noticed sometimes the sound comes back by itself after a while, even without a reboot. I played songs with the audio muted for a continuous 8hrs and the sound was fine all the while. Anyone else have the same issue or possible reasons what might be causing this..???
HW problem
Hi, this is most likely a hardware issue.
I had same problem sometimes. When I hit the phone, at the top (not furiously), it started working again.
Most likely loose connection with speaker terminals.
you can open it and pull the speaker connectors.

Hello fellas,
I just installed ICS from this link
The sound works fine when playing music or notifications or whatever I do.
But when I'm making or receiving a call, my sound doesnt work. My phone doesnt ring or hear it ring when making a call and nor can they hear me at all.
The only way I can make a phone call is through bluetooth which makes me think that the speaker on the phone isnt configured correctly.
If the ROM is the issue which rom do you recommend for my DROID 3?
Thanks for your help!
This is known issue people are experience with CM9, Gummy, and AOKP. MotoBlur + Android 4.0.4 is based of AOKP inheriting its issues. Usually a restart or two fixes the issue, but it is somewhat random. I believe the issue involves bluetooth but I guess no one really knows. I heard toggling bluetooth sometimes fixes it as well.
However you say it doesn't even ring, I have never had it not ring. But have experienced the rest.
Tried that
I've tried restarting several times, doing it again as I type.
When I've also tried to toggle bluetooth off during a call but it didnt work.
Should I reinstall the ROM?
Ok so I deleted all data and cache.
Re-installed the ROM again and it turns out that bluetooth is messing with my in-call sound. My phone rings now (by default there was no ringtone selected) but when I toggle bluetooth on I cannot hear anyone or anyone hear me.
Band aid: Keep bluetooth turned off until it gets fixed.
Thanks for your help Senate9690.
Is there a different rom out there for Droid 3?
About that band-aid
I run into a the no sound on calls as well. I'm running ICS and have always left the Bluetooth off. For me it seems to happen occasionally after I interrupt music/audio playback by removing the wired headphones from the jack or incoming call.
Just flushing the cache and rebooting letting the cache rebuild seems to fix it without the need to a re flash or factory reset. It is good to hear I'm not the only one experiencing the issue.
I ran into that issue with cm9 (selfkang) as well. Usually just toggling bluetooth off did the trick, and when it didn't, rebooting always worked. The sound issues were only in-call related, and notifications/ringtones worked just fine. I switched to Axiom and aside from the know in-call issues, toggling bt off works perfectly without rebooting.
In my opinion, Axiom is an excellent rom. My only drawback is the amount of battery sucked dry when the screen is on/keyboard out, however under very minimal use it has lasted well into the next day. Hash's original cm9 has prevailed as the battery king in my ICS D3 testing, but Axiom has made me a happy camper. I didn't spend much time with Gummy or the original AOKP though. That's the beauty in rom choices; different strokes for different folks

A lot of Android phones are having this issue. Try this app and see if it works. The Pro version lets you route sound during phone calls too!

Bluetooth Share?
Hi,
This is my first post, but I have encountered an issue similar to this before. I work for a company that makes Bluetooth headsets, primarily for truckers, and this is a fairly often related experience. I would describe it as "dead air" on a phone call. Often, if the headset supports it, the A2DP stream will be fine. I don't know why, or where we found this from, but we have found that often if a user goes into their application settings, to "All" apps, there will be an app there titled "Bluetooth Share". Sometimes there is more than one, but only one with show an amount of data. Going into this, clearing that data, then restarting the phone has been reported to help resolve this issue.
Try it, and see what happens. Not just Motorola phones do this either, but it seems to be associated with Android 4.0.x and up.
Thanks,
Alex.
I belive this rom has a bug where the speaker/earpiece doesn't work if Bluetooth is on.

The other day i noticed really weird problem/bug when receiving incoming call.
When proximity/light/whatever sensors are covered (i.e phone sitting on desk with screen facing the desk) while receiving call, i get no ringtone sound from top speaker, bottom one is working fine.
I tried to disable beats audio, unchecking "quiet ring on pickup" and "pocket mode" in sound settings, i disabled some apps which might cause such behavior like Viber etc.
Oh, and i did factory reset few days ago, so this should not be the problem. Maybe it was present before factory reset, but i didn't really noticed because i changed my ringtone and it's really really noticeable with it.
Otherwise, i don't have any problems with speakers besides this one.. when i watch youtube, play games or listen to music everything is working as it should.
I'm 100% stock, unrooted - for now, running latest OTA (3.62.401.1).
What could be the problem? Anyone else with same issue?
Anyone?
Maybe your ringtone is mono, not stereo
Sent from HTC One 802w Dual Sim with my hand...
Nope, i tried multiple ringtones and same problem occurs.
Ok, one last bump.. this "problem" occurs even with latest OTA update (4.4.2), can anyone test it and report if it's normal or not?
I tried CM 11 and OmniRom and there was no such problem..
I confirm this issue on desire 820

I am facing the same issue on my recently purchased HTC desire 820. The only difference is that the top speaker never plays the rringtone during an incoming call. However i can get hear from both the speakers when i receive the call and start the speaker phone.
Did you find any workaround to this? I can hardly know if i am getting a call when i am outdoors because of this problem.

No, sadly i didn't solve this issue.. i have One M8 now and it also has this same problem, so i guess it's "broken" by design across all HTC phones with boomsound speakers.
Only thing that solved it for me was custom rom (AOSP based, i'm not sure about Sense based), so it's pretty clear that it's software feature, issue or whatever they call it.
i have same problem on htc desire 820
I jave same problem here on desire 820
brother same thing happened in my htc one 802w

Posting in the right forum could help
Desire 820 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/desire-820
The only suggestion I can give without knowing particularly this device is to go back to stock rom if you are using a custom one to look if its software related only. A factory reset is also something you want to try (backup your files first)
so i plugged my (unrooted) N6 into my desktop last night to try to USB tether. Not only did the connection fail (all drivers are installed) but after disconnecting, The ringtones, dialtones, play music, and in-call audio through the earpiece stopped working. I later found out that the audio worked with speakerphone enabled but the mic was not responding. I went through all of Google's troubleshooting steps while chatting with support, performed a factory reset, and even went as far as manually re-installing the factory image (wiped the cache too), all to no avail. Then suddenly this morning just as i was about to RMA the handset with T-mo, it started working again. What i did notice is that the OS may be lowering the volume for these features to some undetectable level and then it gradually turns it up in use. Wondering if anyone has encountered this issue or maybe has some ideas about how to fix this because i am clueless about what happened...
Seriously this Nexus has big issue with the speaker. I see so many thread related to speaker issue....
It has to be all software related. WTH....

Yesterday I was listening to a podcast through my M7's speakers and the audio cut off suddenly - as if I had tapped "Pause". Since then I have been unable to get any audio out of the phone speakers. Bluetooth audio seems fine. At first I thought that headset-jack audio was gone, but now it is just very low volume (maybe it was low all along, or maybe it was gone at first and is now working but quiet after a few Nandroid restores).
Here are the things I have tried:
Calling the phone to get ringtone
- (vibrates but no ring)
Restarting
- (no change)
Restoring Nandroid backups from 2 weeks and 2 months ago, with same ROM
- (no change)
Restoring Nandroid from over a year ago, before I had installed any custom ROM:
-Touchscreen doesn't work so can't use the phone (?!?)
-Speakers still seem broken - receiving call causes vibrate but no ringtone
-Had to ADB into the phone to reboot to recovery
Current ROM: CRDroid/CM11
I can't even guess at what would have caused this - I was doing nothing unusual or stressful with the phone. It was sitting on a table playing the podcast & the sound just stopped - pretty sure there was no "Pop" or other sound. As far as I know both speakers were working fine before yesterday, but since I mostly listen to spoken word I guess it's possible that I haven't noticed one of them being out.
Oh yeah, I found and tried dialing the phone diagnostic code (something like *#*#3424*#*#) but it did not work - I'm guessing it just isn't supported in the CrDroid ROM.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Is there anything I can do to test or determine whether this is a software or hardware problem? It seems bizarre that both speakers would just stop working, but what do I know?
thanks in advance for any assistance...

Thanks for the reply - I forgot to mention that I had seen that suggestion and have already confirmed that my Chrome is already updated to version 40.0.2214.109, so I don't think that's it, but if there's any way it could still be the problem, let me know - I guess I could uninstall/reinstall chrome but I don't have any reason to think that would help.
I'm now getting *some* audio under peculiar circumstances, so clearly both speakers are not completely dead or disconnected, and possibly it's software rather than hardware - I'll test a little more before posting the details...

As hinted in that last post, I'm now seeing/hearing some very bizarre behavior - I can now get audio out of certain apps under certain conditions, I think only out of the top speaker. Here are the convoluted conditions:
(This is the only reliable thing that happens) If I play a voicemail message in the "Youmail" app, it works (although only out of the top speaker).
*AFTER* I play a message in Youmail, I can get a video on Facebook or VLC or a song in Google Music to produce audio, BUT if I pause the Facebook video and restart it the audio is gone again, and none of the other apps will produce audio again UNTIL I go back to Youmail and play another few seconds of a message. Pausing/restarting VLC does not kill the audio. Rebooting the phone also leaves me in a non-audio state, UNTIL I open Youmail and play a few seconds. "Smart Audiobook Player" cannot produce audio under any circumstance, and I cannot get the phone to ring. I haven't played with other apps yet.
What the??
I've been thinking about flashing a new ROM anyway, but I'm skeptical that that will do any good since my attempted Nandroid restores haven't helped.
Any ideas?
(of course let me know if you need more info to try to diagnose or if there's some other hoop I could jump through to try to see what's happening)
[edit a few minutes later] I can get music to play in Mediamonkey, but as with the Facebook video, if I pause and restart the audio is gone again and other apps (except Youmail) do not produce audio.
I went ahead and flashed a new ROM ("MaximusHD | 52.0.0 | Android 5.0.2 | Sense 6.0") but that did not fix the problem.
I can now run the HTC Fuction Test Program, and that results in some top-speaker audio tones on the first audio test, but no ringing or other audio. I haven't restored the Youmail app to see if I can get the same weird behavior I had before.
So it is still clearly true that I can get very limited audio out of the top speaker but generally audio is dead.
Any suggestions of what to try next?

Arrgghhh - I'm afraid you're right but I really want you not to be. Any other ideas/solutions?
To be more clear, now when I run the "HTC Function Test" and select "Audio Test", the first test it runs ("Receiver Test") seems to work - it plays several distinct tones followed by an ascending sliding tone (out of the top speaker only). Then it runs "Test Both Speakers", which fails completely (no audio whatsoever).
Hey! So I have a really weird problem with this phone... Which i originally thought was a hardware problem, but I think I just confirmed that it's not. I will try to explain it:
Noteworthy Items:
1. Long phone calls
2. Wired headsets (I've tried at least 6 different earbuds)
3. This happened to me with the base MIUI, and a custom rom
I spend a good part of my phone time on phone calls, and from time to time, the person on the other line will tell me that they're not hearing audio from my earphone's mic anymore, but rather from the microphone on the phone (particularly like a speaker phone call). If I plug my earphones out and back in again, this fixes it. During this time, if I run my hand over the proximity sensor, my screen will go dark as if I was on call without headphones but all sound is still processing through my earbuds (I hear my caller fine). I installed a custom rom less than a week ago, and I'm still having the same issue so I thought it was hardware-related.
However, today I decided to do something different... I ended the call, and called back without touching any of the hardware (I didn't plug out my earphones or touch the connection in any way) and this fixed the audio issue. I did this three times already to make sure it wasn't a fluke. I'm very confused as to what could be causing this issue. Any ideas?
To confirm, I've used different earbuds but I've never tried to replicate this using wireless earphones (because I don't have any). The issue also happens more commonly if I'm moving too much (this is originally why I thought it was hardware related). If I keep still, or my phone doesn't move, I have this issue less frequently. If any other info is needed, I'm happy to provide, and happier for any help I receive. Thanks!
yea, I also have the same issue. I tried many solutions but still problem persist. has anyone got any solution?
