Hi guys,
So I picked up a new Gear VR today and took my first step into the world of virtual reality. I got to demo it in the store and it looked great. So naturally, when I got home, I tried it immediately.
Unfortunately I have a weird issue. The living room (not really a demo, I think) is greenly pixelated (sorry, don't know how to explain it better) at first, but normal later when I get back to that screen. Also, in someplaces, when looking somewhere where there is no actual content to display, I see something like black smudges that look a bit pixelated. Again, really hard to explain. Does anyone have a similiar experience or any idea on what this might be? I already wiped my screen and the Gear itself.
I have a rooted Galaxy S6 (Xtresolite) which I am now flashing back to stock to see if that helps. I also have a glass screenprotector on it. I hope that's not the issue as I really don't want to remove it.
Any help would be highly appreciated!

I believe it has to do with your Home Internet. I get the same issue on my home WIFI, it works perfect when i use my Phone and Office Internet. It should be the case with you too that's why it worked great before you tried it at your home. Maybe, maybe not.

Thanks for your reply! That might be the case. It's very late here right now, but I'll be sure to try both my 4G connection as well as my WIFI tommorow. I do have to say that my WIFI is rock solid stable and extremely fast (205mbit on speedtest, around 25mb/s actual download at full speed). So that shouldn't be the problem .

I recieved my tilt from Amazon roughly aweek ago. Everything was going fine up until not to long ago. The screen stopped registering any screen taps from the stylus or my finger while everything else worked just fine. I reset the unit a few times hoping to resolve the issue. Nothing. THEN I made the big mistake of hard resetting the unit. Now i get to the calibration screen and no further. Anyone got any ideas? Any idea where I can take this to get looked at? i was contemplating sending it to Amazon as defective but ive already flashed the HTC Rom to it shortly after recieving it. Am I completely screwed? Help!!

you could try reflashing the original ROM
Yeah, I tried that shortly after making my original post. Still nothing. I'm curious if the cable for the digitizer came loose somehow (no idea how though) or if it is an actual hard ware issue.
I thought something was wierd when it was working though. When I used the stylus the taps were very inaccurate recently. More so towards the upper hight hand corner of the screen. Calibrated it a few times hoping to correct it but it was always slightly off still. Then it just stopped working all together.I thought it had something to do with my screen protector but after removal was still a no go.
Luckily I am still able to make phone calls thanks to the slide out keyboard. Not sure if it rings or anything when I recieve one though. Still stuck at the calibration screen Any other ideas?
What size star key is needed to disassemble the tilt/tytn II? I may try taking a look inside to see whats up.

If you're stuck at the calibration screen after a hard reset, how are you able to receive calls? Surely the reset hasn't completed?!?
Also, if you have reflashed to the original ROM, and thats now stuck also, then it has least got the correct ROM image on the device, thus allowing you to return it for a replacement.
Still a little confused about how you're able to use it at all though...
i honestly though it wierd myself. after flashing back to the original rom. at the calibration screen if i slide out the keyboard, press the talk button , close then reopen the keyboard, it lets me dial out using the number keys on the keyboard.
I can actually make out the home page behind the calibration screen as the screen reorientates itself.
edited Well I've no idea what just happened but the screen just stared working again out of the blue. My dog jumped on the bed n stepped on it ant the cursor moved. Very weird. Damn I'm lucky. lol Thanks for the input guys. Lets just hope it doesn't happen again XD

I agree, sounds like a loose connection somewhere
Could be grit between the screen and frame
One of my friends had an XDA Orbit and he had this problem. It turned out it was a crumb or piece of grit wedged between the frame of the phone and the screen causing the screen to be permanently pressed at that point. He used some fine implement (maybe a pin - can't remember) to dig it out. If this was the problem with your phone that may explain why it suddenly started working viz the bit of grit became dislodged by itself.

From what I've been able to find from searching, I think my Tilt is about to bite the dust, but thougth I'd post the symptoms and see if anyone has any good info.
My screen has been occasionally fading to white. Not sure how else to describe it. It just sort of starts getting white, and within 2-3 seconds will be completely white. It is still working, that is, I can place a call (using MS Voice Command); I can play music.
I have SPB Mobile Shell on it, and a button assigned to go to the home screen. I can press that, and it will go to the home screen and display normally. If it is a hardware problem, I find it interesting that I can go back to the main screen. I suspect it is close to gone.
Any thoughts?
If so, anyone know what it costs to repair, and where to do that?
Sounds like a software thing to me, I hate to say it but try a hard reset. Do you have a 6.5 rom?
I've been thinking of doing a hard reset anyway, My memory is about used up. I'm not quite sure why. Probably should get it cleaned up.
No, I'm not on 6.5. I've been reluctant to make the move. I did some rom updates some time ago, and then the person working it decided to stop. I decided to stay with MFGR based roms after that.

Good thinking.
Likely NOT software but hardware -- could be the screen is going bad, or perhaps just the ribbon cable than connects the screen is broken or not seated properly.

So the hardware problem is just scared of the button he has assigned?

Try putting the phone in the bootloader screen and let it sit there, that should let it go around the software.

Well, I am doing the hard reset. So far, no white.
Hmmm...lordy...I have a lot of stuff I try to put on this phone.
I wonder how much memory, both types, I need to keep available.
Don't put anything on the phone that you REALLY REALLY don't need. This is a taste phase and you need the least amount of BS on there.
Well, I've got most of what I need loaded, and have 61MB storage, and 63MB of Program memory free. Much better than before.
But I am still getting the fade to white occasionally.
I'm thinking hardware.
Anyone know if checking the 'ribbon' cable is user capable thing? I don't see it easily. I'll so some searching in the meantime.
Also, any feedback on cost and where for a new screen? Or do I just trash it when it finally goes?

I am noticing that it particularly does it when I click the Windows (lower left) hard button on the front. I'm thinking it is related to a problem with that button.
Could be when you press that button you are flexing the cable enough to make it lose connection and go white -- this could be good news -- there are instructions scattered in this forum on how to take the phone apart. I'd recommend doing that and makeing sure the cable is firmly seated -- you should also inspect it for cracks.
Hopefully it's just a loose cable and making sure its in all the way will fix it -- if not you'll have to track down a new one.

In the meantime, I called HTC just to get their thoughts on repair. First thing they told me was to upgrade the rom to the latest which is 3.57.502.2 .
I haven't been following ROM discussions. I need to check that out too. I wish I had seen or thought of that before I just spent a day with the hard reset/reinstall

I have not resolved the issue. It is intermittent, and hasn't happened for a few days now.
I searched and have found some instructions about taking the screen apart, but have not tackled that yet.
In my case I can't imagine changing roms making any difference, as I've had this rom for many months and it is just recently starting this.
I have found new LCD screens for this for ~ $30. I'm wondering if replacing the screen may be an ultimate solution or, if it is possible/likely that it is somethign else hardware related.
Been busy, and don't have the tools yet, so it may be a bit (or when it goes permanenly white forcing action) before I get any further on this.
It is definitely a hardware issue, my wife's tilt did the same thing, then it went permanent white. I first took it all apart looking for a bad ribbon cable or connection because it had taken a few good falls. But that was not it. So I bought a screen for about 30.00 online and shazam that was it!
Thanks for that info. I was thinking of ordering the screen, but concerned it could be something other than the screen (even though logically it would make sense that it is the screen.)

Sometimes when I start my watch It starts to blink in dimmed mode. If I touch the screen it stops and I got standby screen but when it goes to dimmed mode it starts to blink again. It can do this for a while and then work great all day whiteout blinking. Some times it has started to blink after I take it of the charge dock. I tried to reset the watch and when I did that it worked for about a week but today it happened again. Did a new reset and removed some apps from it to see if that helps.
Anyone else with this problem ?
Are you using an original watch-face or some 3rd party solution ?
If it's behaving identical while using one of the pre-made faces, you might have a faulty unit.

I use 3 party watch face. But the strange thing is that my watch works over a week after reset. Maybe it's because I have been doing things with it to much, changing watch faces and so on. Now I have removed some watch face apps to see what happen. It has worked for a couple of days now.

My watch R does the same and I'm using the original faces, not a 3rd party one. It started doing this random flashing after about 1 week of use. But I noticed the other night that the charger (the travel adapter that plugs into the wall) was making quite some noise... I'm suspecting it is defective, and that it could have induced the issues on the watch.
Anyhow, contacted LG and am sending the whole package for repair & check, will let you know if the issue disappears. Definitively not acceptable for me to have such a nice smartwatch but behaving like that!

Ok, just did a third reset on mine and removed every apps and I also reset android wear app and started over with a fresh start. Now I'm not using any 3 party apps. Will see if it works, if it doesn't I will also make a warranty claim.
Interesting to see what they will do with your watch, please let me know how it works out for you

Will let you know what they did to it. I do hope it's a known issue within LG and that they have a fix! Apart from that, it's an awesome smartwatch and I already miss having all the notifications and voice commands on my wrist! Everybody says Android Wear isn't very good yet, but I find it quite powerful already...

I agree, if I have to send it away I will miss it. I think this is an awesome watch and I really like have notifications on my arm.

omg...seem like i am not alone...
mine is more like steph case....it will flash most of the time when i took it out from charger when 100% charge....it only flash like 3/4 of the screen. the flash is like max brightness.
initially i thought it only happen when i didnt use the adapter come in the package. but when i now use the original adapter, it still happen.
nothing can be done to stop the flashing until i power off the the watch this is depressing. i bought my watch direct from korea. now if warranty purpose, i will need to return it back to seller in korea.

Yeah... seems like a common issue if you ask me, I really hope LG knows how to fix this! In my case it was the same: only the top half of the screen was flashing. The other day, even after 2 reboots it kept doing it, quite annoying. I really thought initially that it was related to the travel charger making this frizzle noise, but seeing both your similar experiences, it is probably not related.
Can't you claim the warranty in Singapore? Before you return yours, let's wait and see if they manage to fix mine! :fingers-crossed:
This morning when I took it from the charging it started to flash, continued to do so even after a restart but then I just left it flashing and after a while it had stopped and now it have worked all day so far. Will probably appear tomorrow again. Will do a warranty claim on mine now.

Where did you bought yours? (I see your nickname and signature so I suppose you are in sweden ) ... Mine is from net-on-net. I have no probems with mine, yet, but, just in case things will start to go wrong, I need to be prepared .
As with any new release, looks like there are some problem units in the wild. I returned my first unit which had putty gray white markings on the bezel, flaky bluetooth and unreliable accelerometer and got a new unit with bright white markings, solid bluetooth and reliable accelerometer. Just like my Surface Pro 3. Took 3 units before I got one without bugs.

Yes, I'm from Sweden Hello fellow countryman . I bought mine on netonnet to. Today I had a email conversation with there customer support and they will send me a return box now so I can send it to them. Hopefully they just switch it for a new one but they don't have any in store right now.

lucky i foudn this page - thougth i was the onyl one with this problem where after i pull it off the charger it will start flickering until i do a few resets. really frustrating.
please do keep me updated if you guys hear back from LG - i have sent them an email of my own and will do the same.

yup..mine always happen after 100% charged and then undock it from docking.
then if you touch the screen or touch the button then it will flicker.
but there is once ...the flicker just happen out of no where...fortunately i just step out from cinema hall...else it will be super embarrassment..

Hey guys I have a problem, today my nexus 6 slipped from my pants and felt screen down to the floor.. It has now a few scratches on one corner but nothing more physically speaking.. But now I have noticed that the auto rotate option is not working anymore.. Camera, photos, videos, web pages, etc nothing works.. Just YouTube but because it has its own option to see on landscape.. I have re started the phone 3 times and nothing.. I don't know if someone can help me this, if I have to install the firmware or make a factory reset or something.. I don't know.. My model is XT1103 bought from Motorola Mexico directly from their web page and I use it with Telcel.. I haven't had this issue before.. All started today and I'm guessing is because of the fall of the phone.
If this all happened after you dropped your phone I would assume its more of a mechanical issue (busted accelerometer) vs a software issue. I would doubt that any sort of reset or software tweak could fix a problem like that. It may benecessary to contact Motorola and set up a repair order.

The same thing happened to me when my son dropped it on the floor. After looking around the web, I have found that it is a common issue with the owners of this device where it seems that the accelerometer gets shaken a bit out of place. You can download an application from the Play Store called Accelerometer Monitor which will show you the X, Y and Z value changes as you move the phone around. In my case, all the values where changing except for the Y value.
I know that this is not a scientific way of doing things, but what almost everybody recommended is smashing the back of the device hard on your hand many times in order to push the accelermoter back to its place. I have done this while I had the above application opened and after many trials the Y value started changing again and everything seemed to be back in place and working perfectly.

Ok so I downloaded the application you said, and in fact the Y value is the only one that doesn't change when moving the phone.. I guess I'll try the same of smashing the back oh the phone hard with the hand to see if that helps me.. Its driving me crazy that I cannot rotate the screen to landscape..

I know it's an old post but it just helped me fix the accelerometer. It got stuck on Y axis when I dropped the phone today on a carpet.
I installed the recommended app to monitor the settings and bumped the phone several times at the palm of my hand and magically the Y axis started responding.

no need to drop the phone and risk it.
just smack the phone on your hand, a bit of force is needed but nothing crazy.

Above non-scientific solution worked for me for my Nexus 6 which had got Auto-rotate issue after it was dropped on screen side down.
I know it's dead here, but figured I'd ask...
My Glass sat for a while. It was working when I put it away. I pulled it out and now whenever the screen is active, it's blank, and it constantly plays a sound over and over.
Touchpad seems to work. It sounds like its doing something but the only way I've seen something active on the screen is if I take a picture, I get a quick flash of what I took, or framing marks.

Nothing definitive. I believe I connected it back up to the app and that seemed to help.. I may have updated it, I don't recall, but it did eventually stop and become usable.
I remember there was something I did that seemed to help and I thought to myself "well gee I should have done that to start"...only I don't remember what it was. I think it had something to do with connecting up, maybe screen sharing with the glass app? Not sure.
