[Q] Bluetooth headphones have gone quiet - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I purchased some Trendwoo Bluetooth headphones recently and I've just started having issues with them on my Moto X where the volume level of has gone really quiet. I've tried going into sound settings and making sure all levels are up full and have also tried disconnecting my Moto 360 watch in case it was causing some sort of issue, but nothing makes any difference. I know its an issue with the phone as the headphones work fine on my Samsung Tab S. I've also tried switching the phone from WiFi to 4G in case this was interfering with the Bluetooth connection, but again no joy.
If anyone has any ideas its much appreciated!

Fixed it. In the end just forgot and repaired the headphones and the volume went back to normal. Should always remember first thing to try is turning it off and on again!

[Q] Very odd audio problem w/aJays one+

So my note II got stolen recently and i switched back to my GS. On the note my aJays worked perfectly, but i pluggedd them into my GS, and i noticed at once that the sound quality was VERY bad. So i found out after a while that while held the headset button down(the pause/unpause/answer call button) on the aJays, the sound quality would go back to normal. The headset works normally on my Windows PC.
I hove no idea what to do, and couldn't find anything like it on XDA or any other site. Other headphones work fine on the GS, but i dont have any other headsets with button(s) to check if the phone just misreads all buttons. I have only used two ROMs since i started using the GS again, both CM-based, and it occurred on both.
Any suggestions are welcome!

[Q] Bluetooth audio cutting out.

Something I noticed today while driving was my Bluetooth audio would cutout every few minutes. It only happened on my Nexus 5 with an alpha ROM, but was fixed later. Anyone else notice this?

On the new moto x? No, I just had a couple hour car ride with zero issues listening to Play Music and Slacker Radio. Made a few calls, no issues either.
This happened to me on a 20 mile bike ride. Horrible having choppy audio for almost a few hours
I just noticed this too. I do have a Moto 360 as well so maybe that is messing with the blueooth? I have gone a couple car rides and it's perfect, and others it's really choppy.
This does seem to be a problem with me too. Sometimes perfect and sometimes not. When connected to Bluetooth I notice that Google maps speaker goes in and out as well as moto voice while driving
I can confirm that if you have a 360 this is the cause. You can verify this by disconnecting the 360 through wear and the problem going away. For now what I have due is set up an IFTT to disconnect wear when by car's Bluetooth is connected.
I actually don't have anything else connected via Bluetooth and it still happens to me.
I figured it out. I was driving and I turned off Bluetooth completely and the voice worked perfectly. As soon as I connected back to Bluetooth the voice got choppy again...
I looked over in the Note 3 forums, and users were experiencing the same thing. Someone said to listen to music with the screen on to fix it. Today I listened to music with the screen left on and sure enough my music didn't stutter once the whole car ride.
This leads me to think either the processor is getting clocked too low for playing music through A2DP when the screen is off, or perhaps active display makes it stutter whenever it activates. I will look into it further today.
In the mean time, does anyone know of a processor control app that will change the minimum processor clock if bluetooth is connected? Perhaps there is one with a tasker plugin.
I'm experiencing the same issue, really sucks.... I'll try disconnecting the Moto360 on my drive today and see if that fixes it - although I swear I've had the issue before while it wasn't connected.

SetCPU could possibly do this. You can definitely set the minimum CPU clock, but I'm not a 100% whether you can get it to do this WHEN a bluetooth device is connected. SetCPU has a profiles where you can define certain parameters based on conditions.
Of course, before you can get SetCPU working you'll need to root your phone and I have a suspicion that all other CPU clock apps will need root access too.
Has anyone had any luck resolving this?

I'm hoping that either an OTA or Android L will fix this. My Moto X is fine when I'm using my Motorola S11-HD headset, but when connected to my car it goes in and out every few seconds.
So it isn't the processor. So far i have it down to either Wi-Fi or active display. Will report more when i find it.
Turning Wi-Fi off while connected to my car Bluetooth has fixed the issue for me. At least, so far it has.
I'm using PowerAMP for playing music and when I enabled the "high priority" setting in the headphone/bluetooth settings it seems to have resolved the problem until today. This morning on the way from work it started to cut out every few seconds. grrrr...
I have 2 bluetooth adapters in my car, one which takes only phone audio and one which takes phone and media audio, the latter one continously drops and reconnects phone audio (even after forgetting the other device), which makes me believe it is some hardware compatibility issue
I have posted on the official Motorola Forums but I though I should re-post here as well becuase well....XDA fixes things.
So I just purchased a Moto X 2nd Gen Pure Edition as an upgrade to My 1st Gen Moto G. Both phones have the same problem with the Bluetooth Audio sounding like a scratched CD skipping and studdering and it seems to be way worse a problem on the Moto X than I ever had on the Moto G. It's not buffering it happens with music on the phone. It doesn't happen every time I'm in the car but I'd say 50% of the time.
I would think it's the car but before the Moto G I owned a Galaxy Nexus and never had the problem as far as I remember. I'm sure I would remember it's really really annoying. I have even tested with a friends HTC M8 over a long road trip and there seemed to be no issue there. In my car (2011 Subaru Impreza) with the G or X after a time it eventually starts skipping even if it takes a couple hours.
So I did some research before and have tried various things.
I have disabled the Wifi while connecting to BT as Motorola has recommended to owners of other phones. That didn't help them it doesn't help me.
I have removed all other BT devices from the phone while connected. Nope
I have removed the Phone in the profile so my car doesn't try to use it as a phone as well at the same time. Nothing
I have done all of the above at the same time stopped every other program other than Google Music and added the phone to my car fresh and I still have this issue.
During my research about my car the only complaints similar I found seem to come from someone else with Moto phones. I dont' know what they do special with their Bluetooth but it's not helping me out.
You could try to upgrade your car's firmware. Some dealers do this for free, with some cars it is easy to do yourself

This is what fixed the audio in my Mustang with Sync. The Ford dealership did not charge me anything for them to do it.

Hi all, Someone have this problem?

So I'm trying to factory reset it won't work.
Thanks in advance for any help / advice you can off!

Wow, l am Nexus 5 owner and I have exactly the same fault. No fix as yet on the nexus. Was thinking about the moto x and came to check what issues the phone has. I suspect this is a universal android bug. I have done some googling and found at least half a dozen phones with this issue. It's like a virus.
Sometimes this can be caused by a defective headphone plug, tricking the phone into thinking something is plugged in when it's not.

[Q] Sound gaps while BT streaming to car audio.

Hi, I Have strange problem with my brand new Xperia Z3 Compact. I streams my music from Z3C to my Pioneer MVH-X360BT car audio. Every few minutes there is a gap in stream that lasts for maybe half a second. That's very annoying! Music is still playing during this gap but I can't hear it. I had similar problem with Xperia Z1 but I thought it was some problem in old Android and some bug in BT driver. Then I've had iPhone 5s and it worked like a charm! No gaps, no problems with BT. Now I've returned to Android and I'm starting to regret this :/
I've checked everything I could. I've turned on BT visibility, turned off Wi-Fi, checked if no notifications couse this. I've even flash clean stock firmware (originally phone came with branded firmware). Nothing. I've tested many players (Walkman, Power Amp, Player Pro, Double Twist etc). Nothing. I though that maybe problem is in my SD card (I store my music on external card), but: 1) it's very fast card 2) copying music to internal storage didn't change anything. Sound still has gaps. I don't now what to do I'm sure that my car audio is ok (iPhone works), today I've tested SGS5 with it and it worked well too. Problem is only with Xperia family (reminder: same problem on Xperia Z and Xperia Z3 Compact).
Any clues? I hate changing my phone again and I love battery life on Z3C (main reason I left iPhone).
Please help!

I have BT headphones and I am not experiencing those issues at all. Could it be that your phone goes into some kind of sleep mode and then wakes up again? Try with some app that keeps your phone constanly awake/screen on. Does the issue persist? Can you try out any other BT audio devices and report if the same problem exists?

Huh, I've turned off the 'Queue data in background' (I have polish locale and I don't know how this option is in english so I translated it literally) option in power management settings. Nothing has changed Also nothing has changed while I was driving car with Google Maps navigation (or Waze) turned on. Still gaps were present.
Unfortunately I don't have any other device that I could test my phone with Only other phones (and all phones works great).
I think I have to change Z3C to another phone, maybe SGS5 (but I don't like Samsung...)
Ehh, tough one

Hi there, I'm facing the EXACT same problem with a few minor differences in the setup:
I'm connected via cable to a philips CEM210. This so called "gap" usually happens when I skip a track(or when the next track comes on automatically).
I have recently purchased the kinivo btc455 and will let you know tomorrow if the issue persists on the BT device.
I actually think 2mal might be on to something here I use stamina mode regularly and I have rooted my device and change tracks via the volume keys.
So the issue might be the phone wakes up periodically (skip track? check notification queue?)

I have all power safe options turned off. Notification queue is empty. I have this problem only via BT. When listening with phone connected to radio by USB, everything is ok.

Try this app while you listen to music over BT : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.synetics.stay.alive
Still gaps?
Also I have Viper4android installed, dont think this would make a difference since it also worked before but its worth a try.
Get the apk from here and follow the instructions : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223
I assume your device is rooted as it only works on such.
Speaking of weird bluetooth bugs, my music has been playing in fast-forward occasionally (cm12). I have no idea why this happens or how to fix it, so if anyone has any ideas I'd greatly appreciate it.

Stay Alive didn't help. There are still gaps once for a audio track.
My device isn't rooted so Viper is not an option :/
Thank you, though

Hmm , last idea , try turning the timeout for visibility option in the bluetooth menu (in the right corner on the bottom when bt is turned on) to no timeout.

That was the first thing I did. No effect, of course.
Sad but true - I have to get a new phone. And this time no Sony

Jeah too bad i could not help, what you could try is go to a store and ask them whether you could try out some BT headphones, with the pretext of buying them ofc . If the issue is still present then it may be hardware related and an exchange unit could work just fine. Otherwise it points to some incompatibility issue that could maybe fixed somehow but not by me and my current expertise . Especially since i am not experiencing the same. Wish you the best and good luck !
I use a Bluetooth headset (mw600). Started with a nokia n900 and it had frequent gaps, probably due to wifi/interference. With the Z3C started with no gaps but now get few most likely when it leaves any wifi connection (hotspots).
Since you have tried all options on the phone side, it seems to be an issue with the particular car stereo. How about you reset the stereo by removing all power sources to it then pair the phone as a fresh new device and check if issue continues?
I have a similar issue. It seems like a head unit problem for me. Many problems there are with Pioneerer Head Units. Please don't buy this brand...
Have same problem with my Z3 and pioneer car sound.... No issues when i used samsung devices... Now i have a Z3 and the sound fails all the time....
I have 2 headsets bluetooth and i dont have any trouble....
The problem is between sony devices and pioneer!!!
Help!!!
This is not just between Sony and Pioneer. I have a Cardo Scala G9 BT headset for motorcycles, and never had a problem with my Nokia 808 for music streaming, nor my Nokia X2 DS (strictly used for GPS, no SIM).
Now that I bought my Z3C, I have this random gaps of silence while streaming music. Extremely annoying. Even after rebooting the phone, no resolution. Thought maybe there are some bugs with 5.1.1, so I went ahead and updated the firmware on my G9 from 1.6 to 2.1. Still same issue.
Another issue I found with the Z3C: When music streaming is playing, and I get a text message or a new email, the music volume lowers, but no notification sound comes through, before the music volume resumes. On my other phones, when I get a text message, the music volume goes down, and I hear the audio for new text, email, or whatever.
It is extremely annoying. Anybody know how to resolve first and second problem I listed?
Not a Sony issue. Had this with an lg g3 on a kenwood car stereo and the same with the z3c. Seems to be an android issue, as it didn't happen with ios. I am not 100% sure, but I think it only started with lollipop, because I had an htc one m7 before the lg and I don't remember ever having this before...
Yeah, I am inclined to agree with you.
With my Acura, the music has zero gaps. But when I am on a hands free call, I get the gaps! So it must be something buggy with how Android handles one of the BT channels. It is extremely annoying. And on the hands free calls, when the gap happens, my telephony audio goes to the phone. And when I try to switch it to BT mode, nothing, until the gap ends. Then I can switch back to BT mode. This is extremely frustrating.
Bump. I've been having this problem for months. I had it in KitKat too and it happens with any Bluetooth device. It always happens in specific parts in my route (place I go to often), even though I may have never connected to WiFi there or WiFi is off. Could it have something to do with GPS activity?
Any solution for this strange problem?
xperts help please!!!

Hello everyone!
I also have exact same problem with my Z3C and... Sony's MEX-N5100BT, there's a couple miliseconds gap while the music is playing. The best part is that while I'm talking through the radio's built-in BT Phone, the audio never has this gap... or I haven't heard that since I'm using this radio.
But you know what? This happens so rarely that I just ignored it and got used to it and I recommend you to do the same

Weird problem, no "media" related sounds. Alarm, calls, ringtone work perfectly

Weird problem, no "media" related sounds. Alarm, calls, ringtone work perfectly
Hello, for some reason in the last couple of days i can hear no media related sound.
What's weird though is that i can hear normally call sounds, phone ringing and alarm.
The issue started while on the latest version of MIUI. I thought this was related with operating system so I installed Pixel Experience 10 (through complete wipe out, even internal storage). The problem persists there as well.
After looking around, it looks like people had similar issue when the phone mistakenly thought headphones were connected. As it turns out, this is not the case with me. (see 2nd post)
Edit #2:
It looks like it's indeed the "earphone mode" thats causing the problem. Using the aerphone mode off app I managed to get media sound playing again. The problem now is that as soon as i close the app, earphone phone turns back on. Any ideas for permanent fix are welcome.
Thanks
looking around, it looks like the phone might somehow got stuck in like "headphones connected" mode.
I've never connected in the past with any kind of headphones, but i got the charging port changed.
In any case i've tried connecting and disconnecting with Bluetooth headphones but didn't solve the problem.
I will see if i can get my hands on any type-c ones and try again.
Edit: i see there is an option to select the audio output device, and the phone is the only choice, so the headphones mode wasn't the problem
