im running chroma and want visual voice mail, so I called Verizon and disabled vvm and put on basic, tried setting up google voice no go. figured I had to have vvm turned on so I turned it back on, still didn't work. for the sake of time I disabled vvm again and put it to basic, now im getting the gargled text messages and voice mail notifications idk if itll turn off on its own? maybe it has to process in their system because so many changes?? if I wanted VVM google voice to work is there any easy instructions and should it be set to basic?? it kept saying in setup my account isn't supported when I had it set to google voice.

First, for your issue, from what I've read VVM doesn't play nice with ROM's, need to be stock. I hope I'm incorrect, others likely will chime in ...
I've got the opposite issue, stock N6, not rooted or unlocked yet, and it prompts me to install the VVM app for any VM's I get (bought from VZW), I do not want VVM, and VVM is NOT enabled on my account, never has been.
How might I get my N6 VM notifications to act like I expect, and not an ad for VVM?
i know you can uninstall the Verizon vvm and call them and have it set to basic, I did on my stock phone. but now I want a rom and vvm.

You can't use Verizon VVM on anything but stock. No matter how much you want it.

Turn off enhanced LTE on the phone. On your Verizon account disable HD voice and switch to basic voice mail. Obviously you will lose VoLTE but that's the only way to get regular basic voicemail.

I hate to say I don't know how to turn off enhanced LTE on the N6, however, as far as the account goes, I don't have HD voice turned on, nor VoLTE, which is why this is so annoying.
I was on regular basic Voicemail, until I switched to the N6 as an edge upgrade, and hadn't done anything other than have it activated on my line.

You sure it's not set on your account? They probably set it automatically when you activated the new phone. They were calling it advanced calling 1.0 at one point. On the phone go to settings, More, and then cellular networks. If you don't see enhanced LTE there its because it's off on your account and the phone setting doesn't matter.
IMHO I would never give up VoLTE to get basic voicemail but to each his own.
It's also possible something changed in 5.1 but I thought the plain VM indicator worked briefly for me after the 5.0.1 to 5.1 upgrade before I turned VoLTE on.

Nope, not there, never had advanced calling turned on, I had thought about it for both my wife and I, as she has a GS5, but left it for now settling into the N6...
I wouldn't give up VoLTE either just for the VM, but I hadn't yet pulled the trigger on it yet ...
It's not a deal breaker for me, just annoying as all get out, triggers my OCD which all of us here have in regards to their device hehehe.
I suppose I could call a VZ rep and have them look at the account, but truthfully that always worries me whenever one of them are in there ...
If you have any other suggestions, I'm game to listen ...

If you don't have Advanced Calling turned on then you don't have HD Calling nor VoLTE, they are bundled together. Anyway, no further suggestions but good luck
Just to let you know I have my basic voice mail working and I have advanced calling 1.0 turned on and my HD Calling and VoLTE is working.
I had a lot of trouble with Verizon because they couldn't figure out how to turn the visual voice mail off right. took about 10 phone calls to tech support to get it right.
I was getting the gargled text messages and voice mail notifications just like you.
Don't give up just keep calling back till you get somebody who knows what they are doing!
I knew it wasn't the phone or the sim card, I swapped another sim from a different number and the voice mail worked on the nexus 6.
Good luck!

Thanks to the both of you, I have yet to call them, but figure something is likely borked from the activation of the new phone, for as large as they are I've seen too many botched provisioning issues lately
Don't know when I'll get to it, but I appreciate the input!
As the title states my wife and I can't use voice and data simultaneously. We just got the phones a few days ago directly from Verizon. After extensive research I have found I guess HD calling has to be enabled on our plan for simultaneously data and voice to work. I have enabled this and double checked to make sure it's active, tried various stock and custom roms and to no avail everytime we make a call we lose Internet. I have an email out to a contact of mine at Verizon but does anyone else have any suggestions? Thank you.

None of these suggestions worked for me. Still lose lte on my wife's and I's phone when a call is made. Running latest bootloader, tried newest radio, enabled HD calling on our account, reset radio. At a loss.
It took me a week of research and a lot of resets – but I think I’ve finally got it: this is how you make your OnePlus 6T work on Google’s Project Fi with Data, Calling, SMS & MMS capabilities (visual voice mail still isn’t an option).
Things you need:
- A Google Fi compatible phone to change settings and activate the service. I used a Nexus 6P.
- Be either an owner or a manager on the Google Fi account. I had issues when I was simply an additional member. The owner can change all other member’s roles on the Google Fi app.
- A OnePlus 6T. I used the unlocked model – ordered from OnePlus, not T-Mobile.
STEP 1: Download Project Fi on your Nexus 6P (or whatever Google Fi compatible phone you’re using). Activate the service on the app.
STEP 2: Download the Hangouts app on your Nexus 6P. Go to the app’s settings, then click on your account under “account.” You should see “Project FI calls and SMS ###-###-###.” Turn messages on. Then set Hangouts as your default SMS app.
STEP 3: Turn off Nexus 6P and OnePlus 6T. Remove Project Fi SIM card from Nexus 6P and put into SIM #1 in the OnePlus 6T. If you put the SIM into the #2 slot, it will not work!
STEP 4: Turn on OnePlus 6T. Install Hangouts and do the same thing as you did on your Nexus 6P.
And that’s it! A few notes: you’ll have to use Hangouts as far as I know. Sending MMS on the default OnePlus SMS app will work – but you will have issues receiving MMS texts on it. You can install Google Fi if you’d like. It’s not necessary though, and when you try to activate it, the app will say you only have account access. Don’t worry about that. You can still make calls and send texts and etc. You can do everything except get your voicemail transcribed.
Enjoy your affordable and fantastic flagship smartphone!
:crying: Dang, I wish I knew this before I sent my Pix 3 back.
Huh... I'm pretty sure I seen a message that said hangouts no longer supported for sms and also I tried this and hangouts is not available as default sms app list in settings, nor does opening hangouts open any previous text messages.
fi.google.com/compatibility
support.google.com/fi/answer/6224695#use_number
Now shows that the 6T is compatible.
I'll be setting mine up on Fi soon and will update with status.

Hangouts works for SMS when you have Fi. The only thing is that it gets sent as Data.

Nice find, I just switched from fi to tmobile for this phone. The pixel 3 xl was nice but I just couldn't live with that notch. Looks like we will only miss out on the vpn and auto wifi finding and connecting in public. Time to sign back up for fi, I use so little data my bill was hardly ever more than 40 bucks.
The network switching will never work (I'm fairly certain) for as long as US Cellular and Sprint have their networks implemented as they do. A BYOD setup for a device that they do not already have a IMEI for and whitelisted on their network just is not allowed.
I know that this is only a small piece of what makes FI work but I know it's basically what can hold the whole thing up from ever working
trouble shooting Fi from 6P to 6T
hey all, i'm trying to troubleshoot doing this very thing. I once had tmobile on my 6P then switched to Fi a year or so ago. I just bought my 6T and switched out the Fi SIM from my 6P to 6T. the 6T isn't recognizing it so I'm not getting any cell service obviously. What am I doing wrong? I saw in another thread that I just need a new SIM card so i ordered one, but not sure if that's the solution
Anyone could enable google fi vpn on OP6T?
Haole75 - if you bought the device from T-Mobile you have to make sure that the device is unlocked and paid off before any other SIM card will work that is not T-Mobile
Is it possible to get Sprint and usc to work yet? Or is it a IMEI thing. I'm hoping we can try to screw around with the build props or something
i never did any of these steps, non tmo 6t. I just put the sim connect to wifi , got googleFI app and waited for it to connect.
Verizon customers that had Pixel 3s has the ability to use RCS through Android Messages with other Pixel 3 users. This was a legit setup, not the hack that is floating around the internet. However, Verizon does not support this with the Pixel 4 at this time.
I was running into a problem after upgrading from my Pixel 3 to 4 that if I enabled WiFi calling on my Pixel 4 it would not send text messages. After many calls with tech support to no avail, replacing my phone with a new Pixel 4 which did not solve the problem, was able to finally determine the issue was related to RCS being enabled on my account w/ Verizon. Once I mentioned to the Level 2 Tech that I thought this might be the problem, they saw where it was setup as a feature on my account in their system. They removed it and now I am able to send text messages again with WiFi calling enabled. Just a heads up for anyone that might run into this problem if they have upgraded from a Pixel 3 to a Pixel 4 on Verizon.
Why is this more desirable to disable it instead of just enabling it on the new phone??
The only way to enable it, f your on Verizon, is to use the hack. I tried the hack. It would allow me to interact with other users that had RCS enabled, but still wouldn't allow me to send SMS or MMS messages.

Thanks for pointing this out because I was having the same issue. I was on the phone with Verizon tier 2 tech support and they claimed there is no such setting so it's hard to know which support person to believe! I simply disabled "chat features" within settings of android messages and seemed to do the trick. Thanks again!
Edit: Nevermind, it was working but stopped. Please let us know if anyone else has success with Verizon tech support.

I wish I had gotten more info from the Level 2 person, but he clearly said that there was an RCS setting on my line that he had to remove. Once he did, it started working.

Ah ok gotcha. I didn't recognize what you meant. I'm on Verizon with the RCS enabled and have not have any issues with sending it receiving so far. I guess it'sn like you said that it's an internal Verizon condition.
I've had an ongoing battle with my ability to make calls/text with this device, I initially thought it was at the carriers end but I was perplexed because my SIM works fine in other devices and they are unable to find anything wrong.
Last night I opted to try a full factory reset, I had already done multiple prior in an effort to find a resolution but this time I opted to do it without immediately connecting my phone to WiFi during the setup portion. What I found was two things, all the texts that had failed to come in did and my talk and text was now completely usable. Also the ZTE Locker, which is ZTEs embedded lockscreen wallpaper app was now functioning again. Prior to this it had stopped working and was stuck on one static image (it is suppose to change the lockscreen wallpaper every time you turn on the screen on your device and the images update everyday over Wifi). Unfortunately as soon as I connect my phone to WiFi without any notification I believe the phone does some form of update as within seconds my phones ability to make calls/text breaks along with the ZTE locker. I have attempted to disable any auto updates under the system updates in settings before connecting to Wifi, but unfortunately that does not work as it does not appear to be a full on OS change. Is there any way to disable any updates that are not manually approved when I connect to Wifi? I have reached out to ZTE support and they have escalated the issue to their senior R&D team. However I don't want to wait until a new update before I can have a functioning phone.
Just as a note, the issue appears to be particular to 3G calls (although I am not sure why I am failing to receive some texts). In Canada our carriers do not enable VoLTE with phones that are pretty much not Samsung/Apple or have been bought directly from them. Because of this any out of market phones like One Plus and ZTE that are unlocked and compatible only get calling through 3G, which is normally fine. I can get VoLTE briefly if I put my SIM in a carrier approved phone and switch it to my ZTE and it appears to work (until my carrier recognizes the IMEI and blocks it). So this may be why not everyone is experiencing this issue (if they have VoLTE). Anyways any help would be greatly appreciated as I am at my wits end.
I'm in the USA and have had zero issues on T-Mobile, but when I got the phone I had to manually put in the T-Mobile APN settings to make sure everything liked texts and data worked correctly. I have many T-Mobile devices so I know exactly how to set the APN. Are you sure that your APN is set correctly for the network you are on? I know that most phones set the APN according to the sim card you insert, but I have found many Chinese phones that DON'T. Once I set it manually that usually solves all the problems.
Also, how did you reach out to ZTE support? I'm trying to get ahold of them to give them feedback to DISABLE the obnoxiously loud camera shutter sound in the next software update, but aside from spamming their Facebook page, I don't know how to get ahold of them.
Thanks for the reply, oddly there is no option on my Axon Ultra to add APN settings. Only the default ones are available, although they do look to be correct for the most part I would love trying to add them manually. Someone in another forum who was also having issues (with another Canadian carrier) spoke with a rep and they stated that they would be releasing an update shortly with the manual APN option. My data and MMS appear to be working fine however so I am not too optimistic that will be the fix. You can contact ZTE on their website, if you go to their contact page you will see a little pop on the bottom right hand corner for chat. In reality it is mostly a messaging service as it never appears to be actually online but they do appear to be respond somewhat promptly to message sent via email. Just as a heads up, I don't recall specifically where I think it was a review but I do believe they have made a statement already saying they will patch out the loud shutter sound.
May I ask if your phone works fine with VoLTE disabled? Unfortunately since all non carrier approved devices are denied VoLTE in Canada my main experience has been with 3G calls failing.
I'm in Finland. Having so much problems with call's that i can't use the phone. Problems answering call's and phone also keeps cutting call's. I sent mail to Zte support. Probably have to wait for update and hope for the best.
Hey, they released an update today. It now allows you to input your own APN settings manually. Look up your carriers and add your own. Even though the automated ones were right making my own manual ones has fixed the issue for me it seems.
