[Q] How to Root T-Mobile Nexus 6?

I see Chainfire uploaded the nexus 6 flashable image today to root the nexus. Found it here. http://autoroot.chainfire.eu/
With that being said this is my first nexus device I have always been on the note series. Could someone give me step by step instuctions on how too root the nexus 6 and how to unroot it? Bring it back to 1000% stock? THANKS!
Well since you already found autoroot. All you really need to do is download the zip and execute the files corresponding to your Operating System. Everything is included in there, it will simply unlock your bootloader and then root your phone.
100% Stock... https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images -- download shamu and do the same thing there.
Unroot.. just remove SuperSU and its binaries.

How do I lock the bootloader again tho and go back to stock one? Chainfire's file unlocked it but how do you relock it?

Thats the joy of devices with a unlockable bootloader. The process is fairly simple and easy to do Toolkits aren't present at this time, but its very easy to do without toolkits that I encourage people to manually root their N6 as it isn't a long process when compared to other phones such as Samsung.

Just so I make sure I am on par here. Bricking devices are never fun.. What do I need to do step by step to root my nexus 6 using the file from Chainfire I downloaded?
Next what do I need to do step by step to relock my bootloader and go back to 100% stock now that I know where to get the stock image?
Am I going to need to install the android SDK? Or can I do this all from within windows? if I need the kit so do I just follow this video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEof4Rnh4oM&hd=1

You don't need a step-by-step.. if you're using Windows, double click the file that says windows then a window will pop up and do all the work for you.
If you want to relock your bootloader, simply just type fastboot oem lock. Please google search this stuff, even though its not Nexus 6 specific. The Nexus 5 or 4 or Galaxy Nexus threads will show you how to relock your bootloader as they're the same in terms of bootloader unlocking/locking.
Stock image.... I already linked you that.
Android fastboot etc are already included in the Auto Root zip.
Please don't overthink this, its fairly easy to do

It could be possible you can execute the commands in the folder that consist of fastboot.exe. I wouldn't see why not assuming you have the drivers and whatnot installed.
There honestly is no point in relocking the bootloader though, just leave it unlocked. Having the bootloader locked causes too many problems if you decide to root again. Only point in relocking the bootloader is for warranty purposes.

I don't endorse using toolkits. Its already easy to do without one plus by using a toolkit you don't learn the skills of using adb/fastboot which is very important. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/general/dangers-tool-kits-one-click-root-t1469909 for full details.

I started with a toolkit. Worked fine. Then my natural curiosity led me to learn adb/fast boot, which I prefer. For some, however, a good tool kit is a godsend. You probably still use ms Dos, python scripts, etc. for some things as do I. For a beginner, though, it can help to show them the awesomeness of Android with the freedom of an unlocked bootloader. Then the serious ones will likely stick around and gravitate to finding out how it all works.
I never rooted my N5 or even unlocked the bootloader, first Android that I never Rooted! It's been over a year since I've done any type of root so I feel like I've never done it! So please excuse my noobness in this but....
When I get my phone in hand, is this the very first thing I should do before even setting anythign up??
Instructions:
Step 1: Download the CF-Auto-Root zip file and extract the contents to a folder. We prefer placing these files on the desktop for easier access.
Step 2: Power off your Nexus 6, and boot the device into bootloader mode. To do so, hold down the Volume Down button and the Power button.
Step 3: Once you see the “Restart bootloader” message on the phone, let go of the keys and tap “Restart bootloader” to enter bootloader mode.
Step 4: Plug in the Nexus 6 to the PC or Mac and navigate to the location of the extracted contents.
Step 5: Now we need to run the automated root script.
For Windows:
Simply run the “root-windows.bat” file.

Your steps are correct. However, when you Power on the phone with volume down + power there is no need to go to restart bootloader because you'll already be in bootloader mode.
For me, I did those same steps as you but I also had to install the USB drivers while in fastboot because auto root wasn't detecting my phone in bootloader mode.

How to Root my N6 w/o PC?

Hello XDA forums,
I really don't like the issue of trying to set the drivers of fastboot/google and so on....also all of these adb commands.
Is there a way to unlock bootloader & root by:
1) one of these "1 click" tools that do everything for the use? (such as "wugfresh Nexus Root Toolkit")
2) Just do everything by the phone? (if there is a possible to install some how a recovery such as twrp and than root by some app?)
Could anybody guide me through the steps, if needed?
Many thanks!

AFAIK you will need a pc to 1)unlock your bootloader and 2)flash TWRP. After that the rest can be done locally. I also never used any toolkit. Making it easy is making it more dangerous IMHO.

So at least once you need to connect your phone to a desktop computer. It can be practically running anything, within reason of course: Wiindows. Mac OSX, Linux (almost any distro).
You need to unlock your bootloader with one command, but a warning here: Unlocking the bootloader will erase everything from your phone..
Then you need to install a custom recovery, preferably TWRP. After that everything can be done from the phone itself. Well at least until you soft brick it somehow, then you'll might have to use the PC again.
Also two things:
1. No OTAs for rooted phones
2. Don't lock your bootloader if you want to mess with it, because with a locked bootloader, and Enable OEM Unlocking set to off, and without TWRP, if you soft brick it accidentally, you are boned.

What Is the most recommended and easiest to use?
I do looking for the 1 click do all.
Does NTRT do that?
Thank you all.
we are eventually goung to have a "my n6 is bricked, how do i fix it with one click" thread here. seriously though, thats what happens when you use toolkits, but do no real research about modding your device.
Toolkits are fine if you first understand what they are doing. Otherwise it's like giving a hand grenade to a child to play with.

There is a reason you're pushing this topic, and I'm quite sure it's because you would feel safer, if there was a tool that did the scary things instead of you. Well, there's no such tool. If you were willing to search XDA, you would find out that the first two weeks after Marshmallow came out were about people bricking their Nexus 6s with toolkits. Then the toolkit got updated and suddenly it knew that is has to flash a modified boot.img too for the root not to brick the phone. But for two weeks it didn't know, because it wasn't necessary for Lollipop. And it will only work until the next security update comes out. And that's once a month.
Meanwhile those who were willing to use the search function, and learned the five minute procedure, were able to update their rooted phones to the next security update and were able to root it as soon as the new modified boot image came out.
And this above is not something somebody will put in a help, or instructions for future updates.
Actually, this is my first time and I was able to do it pretty easily.
fastboot devices
fastboot oem unlock
my bootloader was unlocked within 30 seconds of turning it on.
then, you can easily root via CF Auto root. Just put it into fastboot then doubleclick on the windows, then root, etc....
or.............go into fastboot flash recovery twrpxxxx.img, then it always offers to run SuperSU, and you get custom recovery and root at the same time, etc......
actually the biggest pain is unlocking the bootloader. My Galaxy S4 already was unlocked, so all I did was use goomanager, flash TWRP which always offers to run SuperSU if you don't have it.
Pretty easy, I did unlock bootloader, root, and custom recovery in 10 min.
---------- Post added at 01:48 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:44 AM ----------
............................Then I got sick of stock Google's ROM in 15 min and wiped it and put a custom ROM instead.
Thank you all so much...
@mikeprius
Thank you so much for the info'!
But, could you plz write more details? such as:
1. How did you installed the drivers? (from my expirience, many times the pc dosent install this easily).
I just need the Google oem driver and that's it?
2. When drivers was set - did you made anything in your phones settings? Which?
3. What did you had to do before pushing the files? (Like...put all the files in the same folder? *which files?)
4. And then entered to fastboot mode and typed in these commands in pc:
fastboot devices
fastboot oem unlock
Regarding your last sentence ("or...."):
If i just flash the recovery via fastbot mode I can enter to twrp recovery and it offers to flash the SuperSU?
Sounds to me the best option.
Thanks!
1. The drivers were set from a previous device, so I didn't have to set them, but they can be downloaded and set though.
2. You need to enable developer options and select OEM unlock and USB debugging.
3. I didn't push the files, I just had them on my computer and ran fastboot commands.
4. Those commands are to unlock the bootloader.
There are a lot of different ways to do the same thing (Root, custom recovery, unlock bootloader)
1. Run CF Auto Root on a locked bootloader. It will unlock it automatically (Chainfire has it set that way), root, then download Flashify app and flash the latest img of TWRP.
2. Run fastboot commands to manually unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP, then use TWRP's SuperSU which will root it.
3. Run fastboot commands to unlock bootloader, run CF Autoroot which will root and load SuperSU, then flash TWRP via Flashify or fastboot.
There are many different ways to do the same thing. I actually just googled youtube videos and watched them.
TWRP has SuperSU and root built in. TWRP knows if you don't have it and offers to load it for you.
I went the scenic route just because, but presumably you can achieve all (3) using Option #1 without having to deal with fastboot, adb, etc.....Chainfire's script runs automatically.
I realy try to help people but users that run into problems because of the usage of tookits (and innability to solve problems and/or even lack the most basic knowledge needed) should ask the toolkit dev. for support imo, and not boughter users that have invested time and effort to gain that knowledge to clean up their mess. Period

Need computer-less rooting method please!

Hey everyone,
So I bought the Blu R1 HD 16gb/2gb on amazon for 60 bucks, super stoked with its performance and look (although who can complain for the price of a family meal?).
My only problem is that I've been unable to root it. I know that I can easily root it with a computer, but for whatever reason my computer is unable to install any drivers for anything! Does anyone know of a rooting app that is compatible with the phone, or a way to root it with out a computer?
Please don't respond telling me how to install drivers, as I've tried everything; short of upgrading windows, that is.
P.S. Tried a bunch of apps already, none have supported rooting the R1 HD yet. I've tried kingo, king, towel, z4, and a bunch of others.
Thanks in advance!

You're doing it wrong. We don't use ****ty rooting apps to root, we do it the RIGHT way. You have to install TWRP and flash SuperSU. You can do this the original way using SPFT, or the (more recommended) way of converting to OEM non-Prime, unlocking the bootloader, and using fastboot to flash TWRP.

No. No. You could not be more wrong. Android connects to macOS MORE correctly than it connects to Windows. It doesn't even need any drivers! At Google, they don't use Windows, they use macOS and Linux. That said, we don't have any SPFT for Mac, unfortunately, but that's MediaTek's fault, and there's no reason you couldn't use a Linux live USB to do it.

Well @ColtonDRG I wasn't really saying that it won't work, I was saying they don't like me fiddling with their computers, cause as a kid I messed up some of their stuff, and they really haven't gotten over it yet.
But say I could use one, those things would be all to root it? I would just get the necessary programs, convert OEM to non-prime, unlock the bootloader (assuming mine is locked), flash TWRP, and then Super SU? I'd be done with it in an hour or two?

You might need to convert your phone to the OEM non-Prime version first, but yes. There is no version of SPFT for macOS, so you'll need to use Windows or Linux for that, but the rest can be done on any OS. The whole process only takes me about 10 minutes, but if you don't know what you're doing, it would be reasonable to assume that you could do it in about a half an hour.
EDIT: Also my comment was in direct response to you saying:
"Yeah, they're all mac users, and android doesn't connect to it correctly."
Which implies that Macs cannot manipulate Android devices, which is simply not true.

No. The Prime version of the phone requires SPFT to root, so you will need it either way. You can use SPFT to covert to the OEM version and then root using fastboot, or you can use SPFT to root the Prime version. I personally highly recommend converting.

So every post seems to address only 5.3.1. I can't find a SINGLE thing about rooting the 2015 5th gen Fire that runs 5.3.2. Am I the only person not able to find answers? King Root cant unlock, I can't figure out a solution and I can't stand the interface.
Purchased this for my son and he won't even use it. And He's 5. If I can't load CM or another custom rom soon I'm gonna smash it. At least I will feel better afterwards! I HATE that companies do this. Please help!

Fair bit of info on 5.3.2; sorry you couldn't find it. As for rooting simply roll back to 5.3.1 and then use the SuperTool to root (do not use Kingroot directly). See forum index in General thread for additional detail.

I've tried moving the factory update after downloading it to the DCIM, when trying to update, it states that you can't update because it's an older version of the os. Is it required to side load?

Wrong procedure. See forum index for details, in particular the first two posts in this thread.

What exactly are you trying to "figure out"? Responded a few days ago with downgrade/rollback links which includes a step-by-step video.

I downgraded to 5.3.1. Rooted the fire and am now running CM 12.1. Very smooth!. Took me a awhile to get since I have a Mac but got it working. Used Rootjunky's YouTube video on how to restore. That's how I downgraded. Then used his Supertool for Mac and rooted. I then installed Flashfire and put CM12 on the tablet.

I also bought the Fire a few days ago and I dealt with 5.3.2 by first using "adb sideload" to go to 5.3.1 and then rooting it.
I had problems with rooting via the SuperTool, as it used an old KingRoot version and after several rooting attempts when it finally succeeded, the SuperTool had problems removing KingRoot and replacing it with SuperSu (this error made it lose root somehow). Same problem occurred when I used the SuperTool but with the newest KingRoot, so instead of using the SuperTool I used newest KingRoot directly and decided not to replace it with SuperSu.
All is fine now, lockscreen ads are gone, AdAway is installed and OTA updates blocked.

FYI - recognize KingRoot is a shady tool whose authors have uncertain motivations. Even after rooting it continues to send/receive information without apparent reason. One has to question any app that is offered for free and aggressively resists being uninstalled. Given the unknowns I would reconsider the decision to retain KingRoot/KingUser.

I had the issue with King Root as well. What I did was download a newer version and replaced in the SuperTool folder

Yes, it certainly gives that vibe. However my Fire is just a portable anime player, it's offline and there's nothing on it except anime, so I'll let it be.
BTW KingRoot flagged AdAway as a "risk"

I've done that, it's in the post you quoted. Still, in the replacing step, the SuperTool deletes KingRoot, but then fails to put SuperSu in its place, it prints some errors to the console like ERR_WRITE or something.

Sorry if I misread it. I used the version included and KingRoot so I replaced it in Supertool and re-rooted using SuperTool and it removed it no issues. Whatever though, it got rooted one way or another!

TL;DR: THERE IS NO "One click" OPTION THAT WORKS. I DOWNLOADED ALL OF THEM. IVE TRIED EVERY DAMN ONE OF THEM. STOP SEARCHING. You MUST side load the system with the code necessary to make it capable to root. Downgrading to 5.3.1 was the secret, instead of trying to root on 5.3.2. I made a glossary of the confusing terminology, made a step by step walk through for noobs
SO, having felt encouraged by the response by people on this forum, last night I decided it was worth another try.
I finally figured out what I was missing. IF YOU CURRENTLY HAVE FIREOS VERSION 5.3.1, YOU MUST ROLL IT BACK THRU SIDE LOADING see here: SIDELOAD TUTORIAL
I tried to load straight onto the system disk and caused all kinds of problems. Once I followed that step by step, which TBH, was a lot of pausing and rewinding. I am not familiar with many terms so I made this...
Android Common Terms:
Boot: A sequence of commands written into the underlying software that tells the device what order to operate in
Bootloader: See Previous (this is the sequence I referenced previously)
Locked Bootloader: Think of trying to edit a PDF you did not create... Exactly.
ADB Fastboot: THIS IS A PROGRAM... NOT A FUNCTION. I still get this confused, thinking that it is a quicker version of the boot sequence... IT IS NOT. ADB Fastboot is a program that gives access to the base software code making it reachable to use certain sections of to "edit the PDF".
Custom Recovery: It is the new version of Windows 10 you were updating to when your crappy laptop you JUST bought came with Windows 8.1. Essentially.
Root: Remember the PDF? Well, if you work somewhere that has Adobe Reader, and you see the window on the right pop up with the ability to login to Adobe Online or whatever? Well, rooting is having login credentials to ACTUALLY edit that damn PDF.
Flash: Download from the internet, and install on your hard drive, or SD Card. It actually means you erase whatever is there completely first, then install. It's two steps, which is why they don't just call it installing... I think.
Partition: Have you ever worked in an office with cubicles? Exactly. A partition is a wall that you put up to segregate files, or programs, or whatever.
SuperTool: Based in your computer. RootJunky Went through and basically made one tool that has everything you need for rooting. PROBLEM IS THAT HE TELLS YOU TO DOWNLOAD ADB FASTBOOT AND DRIVERS AND A BUNCH OF STUFF, then says, or you can just download the SuperTool, which means, I now HAVE TWO OF ALL OF IT, and then I spend the next three hours trying to figure out if its the "custom rom that I sideload into the TWRP, or if the Flashed version of the bootloader gets added to the recovery image, but not before the drivers are flashed into the fastboot."
While this doesn't cover a lot, I hope that people in this community understand what it is like for someone unversed in the lingo to grasp exactly what is going on. I don't think we should speak like idiots and elementary students, but I also think we lose a ton of people that may have something to offer one day because they got frustrated with the terminology and gave up. Luckily, I stuck it out and gave it one last chance and I got it.
So, once I downgraded from 5.3.2 to 5.3.1, I went about trying to root the device, which was also a little confusing.
Step 1: Downgrade if you have 5.3.2 to 5.3.1
Step 2: Enable ADB and Debug in the Settings
Step 3: Hold down the Power and Volume Down button, release the power button once the device starts to reboot and a menu will popup
Step 4: Use the volume keys to access the first selection. This is how you access the "sideloading".
Step 5: Open the SuperTool, click on the batch file which should say Auto... because calling it SuperTool would be confusing
Step 6: follow the super easy instructions. Honestly.
It will walk you through the process and get you to the part about Kingroot and FlashFire and eventually root the device.
I honestly hope this helps someone. God knows it would have saved me from spending approximately 30 hours trying to figure this out.

Unlock your boot loader, flash twrp and install supersu to root. or you can also try dns66 to block ads, it works without root.

Google "AdAway XDA". The first result is the thread for the AdAway app.
And what do you mean in-app purchases? You install an app from the Play Store, tap the in-app button, add your gift card and/or credit/debit card (if required), buy.
If you're talking about circumvention, you are NOT going to get help here, AT ALL. This is not one of those places for that mess.

Ad block you don't need any guide. Just install the apk from f-droid. When you'll open the app it will prompt you to grant root access. Just click yes and you have to enable adblock from the app.

I know you are new here, and here is some friendly advice:
1) Search before you post! Most of the info you want, and probably ever want, is already on XDA. It's probably been asked and answered before, probably numerous times. There are a number of guides posted for basic things, like how to root. Just using the search function, or for that matter just browsing through the thread titles will often yield a lot of the info you are looking for. Also, there are resource threads like the Index at the top of the 3T "Guides, News & Discussion" section, which organizes a lot of the useful threads and other resources (with links). Be sure to take advantage of these threads "sticky" to the top of each section.
Only after you have done your due diligence, and can't find what you're looking for, should you make a new thread. If every person who was wondering "how to root" made a new thread asking that, this whole website would quickly become a cluttered, useless mess. The folks here are happy to provide help and try to answer your questions, but only after you've taken at least a little time to try to find the answer yourself.
2) You need to slow down and do some learning and reading. This is something you should have done before starting to do any of the steps toward root. Halfway down the phone modding rabbit hole is not the time to be asking questions like "how do I put the SuperSU zip on the phone".
I've been around here a long time, and modded/rooted a lot of devices. Even so, every time I get a new device, I spend at least an hour or two reading about the root methods (plus possible pitfalls, issues, etc.) for that specific device (as every one has it's own peculiarities and nuances). I simply can't fathom jumping into the root/mod process without this minimum due diligence.
3) Make sure you understand the meaning and implications of an unlocked bootloader, root, etc. There are benefits, and there are also risks. When someone comes on here asking the questions you are asking, what often comes to mind is that a person with that lack of knowledge has no business having root. This isn't to be mean, it's just a fact (at least as I see it).
Side note: I'm not a fan of YouTube guides. They have a place, in conjunction with (but not a replacement for) proper reading and understanding. Just following one of those videos, without doing any other learning, is going to get you in trouble. You'll only know enough to get yourself into a jam (which is inevitable if you play with these devices), without a clue of how to get out. Know (at a minimum) how to recover or get back to stock. Case in point, the linked video skipped what is to me, a critical step. You should always make a TWRP backup before flashing any mods like root or custom ROM. It's not technically a "requirement" but to me, its a must. This gives you an easy way out, if anything goes wrong (and it eventually will). Sure, there are other ways to recover. But the simple step of making a TWRP backup is one way, that doesn't require any additional downloads, tools, etc. It's simply a no-brainer to me, to do this.
