So, I've had my nook hd+ for like a year and a half and have had no issues with it so far. But over the past few days just out of nowhere it shut off. I plugged it up and let in charge until it was at 100%. Turned it back on, took it off the charged and like a minute later it turned off again. i've repeated this process more times than I can count, I have been using the tablet, only while it has been on the charger. Please help, I've already tried soft resetting it multiple times and that hasn't worked.
If the problem only occurs when running on battery, the battery probably has gone bad.

I have this installed [ROM] CyanogenMod-6.1.0-RC1 for Hero CDMA
I was running wifi tethering and installing a game called chess.
I heard my phone vibrate quickly and the screen was black. I tried to turn it back on. But nothing. So I removed the battery and waited a couple minutes. I cant get it to come on.
So I plugged it into a charger and the red/orange LED is on as if it is charging.
The phone will not even attempt to start up
Any ideas?

Phone just seems dead to me... probably just needs to charge for an hour or so
If it's not charge up and running by now, you'll need a new battery.
Thanksgiving day I had my phone on but was doing things around the house and when I went to check my phone it wouldn't wake. Holding down the power button, nothing, it was dead. I know the battery wasn't drained. So I plugged it into my USB and the light didn't turn on either. I sat staring at the phone for a few seconds to troubleshoot and it suddenly began to boot up and after everything loaded I could confirm it was half charged.
I'm running the same version of Cyanogen as you. Are you using the original battery or 3rd party? Mine is 3rd party.
Have you had other strange occurrences leading up to this? Twice in a week I woke up to find my phone on even though I know I shut it down the night before and not accidentally rebooted.
Since I was able to get my phone to boot back from temporary dead the phone has frozen twice while texting. I didn't battery pull or anything, it just rebooted by itself after a few minutes. I plan on switching back to my old battery to see what happens.
Bought a Kindle Fire HD 7 (first gen) back about 2 years ago. Has worked fine until a few months ago when my wife noticed it would randomly shut off. Battery could be 60,70,80 or even higher % charged. Once it would shutoff it would rarely boot up unless plugged into a charger for a while. Has anyone else had this issue?
I should mention it did this with untouched Kindle OS and also has done it with CM11.
Im wondering if this is just a hardware issue or if this is something that can be resolved via software/troubleshooting. There isnt anything important on the tablet so i can wipe/install as needed.
Any help would be great. Thanks

I'm thinking after two years your battery may be at the end of it's rope. You might try replacing it.
Thanks for the input. So last night i charged it to 100% and used a battery calibration app. Took it off the charger and started running stuff to keep the screen on and use the battery. Got to about 70% and it randomly shutoff. Tried booting into TWRP and was in for about a min before another shutdown. Was unable to start it up, would get to the CM load animation then it would die.
Then i did something either stupid or genius. I hit it a couple times and shook it. While doing this i tried turning it on and it booted. However after a few mins of use it wold shutdown. Did this a couple times where it would only turn on if i was shaking or "flexing" it. So this led me to believe this must be a hardware issue.
I decided to open up the back and make sure nothing seemed loose. Pulled the back off, unscrewed the battery and pulled out one end but not all the way out. Pulled some various connecting cables including wifi cable and plugged them back in. I booted with the back off sitting flat on a table and it ran without issue playing back a movie for at least 30 mins. I then put the back o and pulled up google maps and had that on/screen on for at least another 30 mins, occasionally pivoting and zooming in and out. That got me to about 45-50% battery.
I plugged it in to charge over night and will see if it now will behave. Im hoping it was just something loose. Will report back, Thanks
My best friend is having this same issue, and I was hoping if your findings have been positive. If so, we may do like you did and hopefully solve the issue.
A month or so ago, my mother told me her Nook HD+ (on which I had installed CM 10.1.3) would not turn on. I told her to plug in the charger for a few hours and try again. Still no go. I will be visiting her in a couple weeks and will see what I can do.
Today I tried to turned on my wife's HD+ (running CM 10.2.1) which had been off for several weeks. It was almost fully charged that last time it was turned off. It would not come on. I plugged in the charger in and no light came on. After a couple hours I held the power button on and after 10-15 seconds the battery symbol came on for 2 or 3 seconds then disappeared. This time the orange charging came on and stayed on so I assume it is charging. I will give it a few more hours before trying again.
What I'm wondering is: why does the battery seem to drain when the device is off, why won't it boot with the charger plugged in (I assume there must be some minimum battery charge required even when plugged in), is this typical of this device?
Any and all ideas or suggestions appreciated.

When you say off, do you mean completely off or sleeping? If completely off, it should not drain like that. Might be a weak battery.
And yes the power up sequence you described is normal with a dead battery. It must charge a little before turning on.
Tell your mom to try the same thing, holding power button for 15 sec.
If you are going to store it, it is best to have it at about 50% and then turn it completely off.

Pretty sure my mom just let battery run down. She's 89 so not too attentive to electronic things. I'll make sure it's charged when I see her and try to get it going again.
Also pretty sure (but not 100%) my wife's unit was off-off, not standby-off. At any rate, it booted up after being charged. Updating 19 apps right now. Thanks.

This may be late, and sound odd, but humor me if it's not resolved yet. Try to boot it with the SD card removed. My ovation went to doing the same thing, then further to showing false battery levels, and the SD card caused it. Inleqrndnthis by trying the SD card in a spanking new ovation, and my "faulty" ovation then booted, while the new one became problematic. Upon replacement of the now deemed faulty SD card, the problem has not returned.

Thanks. I'll be seeing my mom on Friday. Will try this if I can't get it started.

Got my mother's Nook started. She just doesn't have enough finger strength to hold the button down for the 15 seconds or so it took to start. I'm going to tell her to leave it on all the time and plug in the charger every night so the battery never runs down to nothing again.

I have a Moto X 2013 that, after replacing the battery with a supposedly new, OEM battery, refuses to charge past 3%. This phone is rooted and was rom'd with the Nougat xPerience rom, but I tried flashing it with Nougat Lineage as a troubleshooting test.
I replaced the battery last night without incident, and the phone booted and seemed to behave fine, and the battery had about 30% charge. The only issue I found immediately after replacing the battery was a battery app installed on the phone saying the battery hasn't been charged for -19000 hours, or something a long those lines (I can't remember exactly what it said, as I did not install the app, my friend did who I was fixing the phone for. I just remember it was some outrageously large negative number.). Thought it was weird, and maybe thought it was a software issue, so I booted to TWRP and wiped the cache and dalvik. Rebooted the phone, and the app reset to something along the lines of 500 hours. That is a bit more believable.
I plugged the phone into my laptop to let it charge (as it was the only way I could charge it at the time), my laptop saw the Moto, and the Moto said "Charging..." and "Android Debugging...", and thought it was working. I had to run an errand, and when I returned about an hour later, the phone hadn't moved a drop up or down. My laptop was asleep, so I assumed maybe it just stopped charging when my laptop shut off, and I was exhausted myself so I just let it sit on standby all night.
Morning came, and the Moto is dead. I plug it into the wall charger I was just using to charge my v10 with (brand new cord, made for data transferring and charging that I used once before with the old battery), and head to class, hoping it'll charge. Guess what? It didn't charge. Well, it did a little. It went up from 0% to 3%, and sat there. Annoyed, I unplugged and replugged in the phone. It came up with the white battery charging screen, switched to the Nougat "N", vibrated, then went to a black battery charging thing. Once there, the battery icon went up two squares, the screen flashed, and the phone died and stopped charging, then repeated itself a few more times until it went silent.
I started to think maybe my brand new cord was screwing up, so I grabbed another one I had and plugged it into my desktop. I had read on another thread that sometimes you can force the phone to jumpstart charging by plugging in the phone and holding down power + volume down for upwards of two minutes. I tried this, and it charged enough that I could turn the phone on again, but it wouldn't charge enough to do much more. I left it plugged into my desktop for a few hours, not allowing the desktop to fall asleep, and yet the phone was still not rising above 3 or 4% despite the fact that it says that it is charging. Oh, and the phone was on the whole time if it was plugged in, but the moment I unplugged it (Like the one time it got over 5%), it immediately shuts down.
I know I'll probably just have to buy another new battery for the dumb thing, but I am just curious to see if there is anything I can do to fix this, just because I cannot currently afford to buy another new battery (and my friend, who this phone belongs to, is getting impatient on getting it back.)
Thanks for any help!
I have the same problem, charging topping out at 3% with a "new" battery.
Did you change the battery? Did it work?
Thanks for your feedback.
(FYI, this phone is running the stock lollipop firmware.)
I bought my Nook HD+ in 2013 and it has been a great companion all along. About two years ago, I noticed that the battery was not what it used to be, requiring charging too often. Last year, I installed LineageOS on the Nook.
About three months ago, something happened to the battery so that the Nook would turn on and be usable only if the main power was connected. If I switched off the charger, the Nook would immediately shut down - and by shut down I mean it would just blink off, not shut down over a few seconds. Also, in the shut off mode, it would lose battery a lot, like 20 to 30 percent in a day, without any usage.
Then, about a month back, I forgot to charge it for three straight days and now it won't turn on at all. When I connect the charger, the charging light turns from green to red, and stays there, indicating the battery is charging, and the back of the Nook also becomes hot, but whatever I do, it doesn't turn on. When I press the power button, the screen comes on and shows the charging icon for a second or two and then goes off. I've left it charging for a couple of hours, maybe six or eight or so, but it still won't turn on.
If I remove the battery and turn on the main power, the charging light keeps blinking green and red over and over. So, is there any way to use the Nook without the battery, running it off the mains power only? And if there isn't, is there any way to turn it back on? I've already gone through the threads here and tried some of the things but nothing has worked. I don't have a higher power wall charger, and it is not possible to go out in the present condition, what with the lockdown and all.
Please help.
Hi
I also have a Nook HD+ that I'm still playing with

I also installed lineage on mine a year or two back, but I've had random issues with mine. I'm going to try to reset and reinstall it in the near future (like, maybe this weekend or next).

I know that, if the tablet runs dead, you _have_ to put it on the original Nook wall charger and let it sit overnight... mine just went dead a couple of days ago and I tried just plugging the cable into a generic USB charger, but it didn't charge. I then remembered this and plugged it into the Nook charger and it charged overnight.

I have no idea about this part... I've never taken mine apart (I wanted to buy a replacement battery a few years ago but they ran out and I never found more). Update: I just searched and there are a few battery replacements listed with Google search, I just don't want to pay 40.00 to 50.00 when I can buy a new tablet for a little more than that.
I usually just leave mine plugged into my bedside clock and it keeps charged, or if I unplug it plug it back in within a couple of hours.
Hope you find an answer.
