I'm having some strange problems that my girlfriend who also has a Note 5 has not encountered.
Sometimes, my top left side of the screen won't work? Or if there is functionality I mean. For example, in messages, when you're in a message sometimes I can't click the top left to go back to the list of messages? A restart seems to fix this, however, I didn't pay for a phone not to work.
Any ideas? I'm planning on getting another Note 5 and then returning this one.
Just a bit of an update I guess. It just stopped working, the top left hand side of the screen. I tried pressing harder and it didn't work. I couldn't pull down the notification bar until I moved toward the top middle of the screen.
After a bit of just using my phone, the top left is working like normal. Anyone have any idea as to what is happening?
I read something somewhere that if you disable Facebook Messenger then the problem would go away... try that does it work?

@aukyew seems to be having the same problem as you. He has a thread on the second page of this section. You might PM him and see if he has found a fix.

Are you saying as in like the chat heads? My girlfriend has the messenger enabled and like chat heads and what not and it always works for her. So maybe not that.

Thank you, I'll give that a look.
I'm facing the same problem with my note 5. I actually observed three different spots on screen where it sometimes goes dead (3 dead spots on screen). The spot keeps changing the positions. The most common spot which goes dead is the the bottom right part. I couldn't type letter L on my SwiftKey keyboard. One spot is same as you mentioned that it top left of the screen. The third spot is at the letter Q on the keyboard. I couldn't find out the exact solution for that. I'll try disabling the messenger chat heads and see whether it's work or not.
Do any of you have screen protectors on?
Yeah, tampered glass.
I have had problems in the past with cheap tampered glass protectors and screen not working in random spots. It wasn't a note 5 though. I think it was something with the curve of the Nokia Lumia. Id try it without any screen protectors first
It has nothing to do with the tampered glass. I removed my tampered glass but there are still dead spots on the screen. Also, the screen was working fine sometimes even with the screen protector on.
Yeah I had this problem too but after a while it just went away
I removed tampered glass and since then I didn't face this problem. I think that was just because of screen protector.

I recieved my tilt from Amazon roughly aweek ago. Everything was going fine up until not to long ago. The screen stopped registering any screen taps from the stylus or my finger while everything else worked just fine. I reset the unit a few times hoping to resolve the issue. Nothing. THEN I made the big mistake of hard resetting the unit. Now i get to the calibration screen and no further. Anyone got any ideas? Any idea where I can take this to get looked at? i was contemplating sending it to Amazon as defective but ive already flashed the HTC Rom to it shortly after recieving it. Am I completely screwed? Help!!

you could try reflashing the original ROM
Yeah, I tried that shortly after making my original post. Still nothing. I'm curious if the cable for the digitizer came loose somehow (no idea how though) or if it is an actual hard ware issue.
I thought something was wierd when it was working though. When I used the stylus the taps were very inaccurate recently. More so towards the upper hight hand corner of the screen. Calibrated it a few times hoping to correct it but it was always slightly off still. Then it just stopped working all together.I thought it had something to do with my screen protector but after removal was still a no go.
Luckily I am still able to make phone calls thanks to the slide out keyboard. Not sure if it rings or anything when I recieve one though. Still stuck at the calibration screen Any other ideas?
What size star key is needed to disassemble the tilt/tytn II? I may try taking a look inside to see whats up.

If you're stuck at the calibration screen after a hard reset, how are you able to receive calls? Surely the reset hasn't completed?!?
Also, if you have reflashed to the original ROM, and thats now stuck also, then it has least got the correct ROM image on the device, thus allowing you to return it for a replacement.
Still a little confused about how you're able to use it at all though...
i honestly though it wierd myself. after flashing back to the original rom. at the calibration screen if i slide out the keyboard, press the talk button , close then reopen the keyboard, it lets me dial out using the number keys on the keyboard.
I can actually make out the home page behind the calibration screen as the screen reorientates itself.
edited Well I've no idea what just happened but the screen just stared working again out of the blue. My dog jumped on the bed n stepped on it ant the cursor moved. Very weird. Damn I'm lucky. lol Thanks for the input guys. Lets just hope it doesn't happen again XD

I agree, sounds like a loose connection somewhere
Could be grit between the screen and frame
One of my friends had an XDA Orbit and he had this problem. It turned out it was a crumb or piece of grit wedged between the frame of the phone and the screen causing the screen to be permanently pressed at that point. He used some fine implement (maybe a pin - can't remember) to dig it out. If this was the problem with your phone that may explain why it suddenly started working viz the bit of grit became dislodged by itself.
Cheers,
Ashley

I've just received my phone back from repair, OTA to froyo immediately
Then I realized that the right edge of the screen is not responsive to touches at all...though it displays image properly
Would it be a software issue? Or should I send the phone back?

Of course it's not a software issue, send it back. Try multitouch paint for giggles, see what happens when you try to paint over on that side.

Definitely not working...I also tried wiping cache and data and same result
I was wondering if it is a rare issue with Froyo and would like to flash another rom to see what happens...but my phone is stock everything and I don't want to void my warranty if it is the hardware :/

Personally I seriously doubt that's a software problem. As far as I know there's no "calibration" to be done on a capacitive screen.
The digitizer has to be faulty. I would send it back and get another replacement.
I have an EVO and found this thread through search. I have the SAME problem, the right edge of the screen is absolutely not responsive to touch input. When I first got the phone it worked fine. I rooted it and started throwing different roms on and thats about when I noticed it. It would happen sparingly and then go away. Using the 'Dotty' app I was able to find out what was happening, I would touch the right edge and then untouch it and it would continue to register a 'phantom' touch on the right edge that would wiggle up and down and the circle would quickly change colors (meaning its moving) but there was nothing touching the screen! This was an easily repeatable thing. Dotty would continue to register real touches elsewhere on the screen but the phantom touch input wouldn't go away. Outside of Dotty, I assume the phantom touch would be going on over on the right and all apps would focus on that as it was the 'first' touch point, and then ignore any other touches. This created the illusion of the touchscreen not working at all. This problem would come and go, seemingly random. I would have to turn the screen on/off repeatedly and it eventually went away. Fast forward to now, The 'phantom' touch seems to have disappeared but I now can no longer touch the right quarter inch of the screen. This renders, mainly, the P button useless, unless I go into landscape mode. Does this also sound like a digitizer issue? Would this be covered under the 1 year HTC warranty?
Hi all,
Ok background, ive had my phone a few years but smashed the screen! Got a full replacement front so only moved the boards and stuff across, no heating it up or anything... I found once i had turned it on and started it up I have an issue with my S-pen, when using it with just my finger its fine, however, the s pen is intermittent at best... I cannot draw in the centre of the screen at all but the outer edges are fine to a point?
Does anybody know whats going on here? Any help will be greatly received
I've attached a picture of a s-pen test! If anyone can help please

Hi dude,
I'm no expert! But I had a similar problem when I was using SOKP rom. While the spen drawing kept getting distorted at one part of the screen, but when I reflashed, no such problem! to check if its something wrong with your screen you could go to settings>developer options>and tick show touches and pointer layouts... if you still can see the spen being detected by the overlay, im pretty sure you can come to a conclusion if your digitizer is defective or not!

Hello
My note 5 tmobile variant started what I guess could be called ghost typing/touches. When I go to send an email or text message ill start typing up something and then the phone starts acting up swiping all over. Like ill hit the delete/backspace key and then it type out the letter "p" instead or maybe it'll type out tons of random letters nonstop. Also doing this on the lock screen so half the time I cant open my phone.
Tried different keyboard app didn't fix the issue.
Tried factory reset didn't fix the issue!!
So if anyone has any idea what could be done please let me know thx!
There's a ghost in the machine.

Perform an exorcism on the phone!
On a serious note, I experienced this before on my pad and old phone and an exorcism worked fine..lol..I bought a better screen protector and changed my old one and it worked great. I'm pretty sure it's the screen protector the culprit! Anti glare protectors give better results. A tempered glass will be fine as well!

Hello. Since few weeks I have extreme problem with ghost touch issue on Just top of the screen where the notifications are. I've turned on the programist options in order to see where it happens.
It looks like multiple ghost touch on the top edge on hole width. Sometimes the area respond to my touch, but most of the Time does not.
Happens random, case or screen protector is not the problem, tried all the options.
I have found some solutions from pocophone, but neither of them works.
Disabling gestures, miui optimalization, screenshot gestures, non.
Tried factory reset, updating to miui 11, nothing improved. After factory reset no problem for 1 day, not sure if there is a correlation.
I Will try to record the problem when it Will happen again.
Do you have any advice? I have warranty but at this moment would like to try all avaible solutions. Thanks in advance.
EDIT
Here is my video how it looks

Im the same, just noticed, after 2 days without issues that i was recording a telegram audio and it happend, idk its kinda clueless always
Man, definetly it has something to do with software, just a few moments before posting this i had the issue and it didnt want to leave so i had to restart the phone, first time this way.
Guys I found out what's causing the issue!!! It's not software or hardware. If you have the original Xiaomi case that comes with the phone it causes the ghost touches! I tried removing it 2 times and each time I put it on I experience the ghost touches and each time I remove it they stop for 1+ day which means that the case is causing them. My guess is that tiny particles are stuck between the case and the phone making it do this.
had this on my previous phone, had to rma it

Just found i had a spigen clear case(bulky) and since i got back to Xiaomi's case it is happening a lot less than before.
My problem happens even without the case, and I used Nillkin Nature. Phone is in service currently. When it gets back I will tell you
Lol, how can this be? I believe you, though.
But oem case doesn't even touch the screen properly.
Sent from my Mi 9T Pro using Tapatalk
Phone sent to Service. After two weeks it is coming back to me with replaced screen. In about two days I will check if everything is fine.

Any update on your phone? Touchscreen problem solved?
Problem arrive when using 3 finger swipe for screenshoot. there is solution on net about this problem, instead 3 finger swipe just use power buton and vo- for screen shoot
Ho boy, Looks like this is a common issue, I thought it's just me and I had to live with it with this ghost touch, Particularly when dragging the notification screen and clicking on the settings it won't respond had to do multiple times. S/W update, reset nothing helped. Last week one genius broke my screen and I had to spend and replace it. After replacing the screen I'm not noticing this issue anymore.

As I wrote, tried everything, also disabling screenshot gesture. Problem is hardware, after warranty screen replacement everything is working fine.
At first also had problem with dragging down notifications bar, screen was not responding. Then I turn on touch location in developer options and saw that there is ghost touch in that part. Day after Day it became more disturbing to the point I could not use the Phone.
You can buy whole screen on Aliexpress and change it by yourself if You dont have warranty.
I hope Xiaomi fixes this for those affected. The Redmi 5 Plus had widespread problems with the touchscreen which is why I bought the Mi9T Pro. Not had this myself but I'll be fuming if it ever happens to my Mi9T Pro.
I've still got the Redmi 5 Plus and it's been pretty horrific - the issues started whilst it was in the warranty period and then continued/worsened from there on out. I could kick myself for not getting it serviced in-warranty. Xiaomi essentially sold a lot of people faulty devices; many complain of ghost touching / non-responsive behaviour over on the R5P XDA sub-forum like it's a ROM bug.
I'm also facing this issue of phantom touch or ghost touch.
It's really annoying. I guess screen replacement is the only solution as I've tried almost all options mentioned in various internet sources.
Xiaomi sucks..!
