why would you try it as soon as its rooted? do you already know that your performance sucks and you have terrible battery life? personally, id rather fix my issues for real instead of just flashing a cover up mod. when you actually do fix the issues, your phone and you would be much happier than just throwing a "band-aid" on top.

I does not need a professional to know how good is the battery, performance many roms like i experience has already been optimized, i like more than just normal.
Thats my experience on being on almost beta tester not only this mod but many roms.

Awww. I want it now.
Sorry, didn't mean to get you all excited for nothing! Don't worry though, we'll definitely post once CM6 is released for any Galaxy S devices - that's something people will want to know

Will they release a version of the mod for the i9000 (the eu one not the vibrant)?

Obviously yes, since phones are almost identical (you can even cross-flash firmwares, but you have to be careful about it).
If and when CM6.1 comes out, this board will be a flurry of activity and you will definitely not miss it.
Also it will be stickied at the top of the board

There is only a start of CM6 for SGS. Check status here:

I am fairly new to Android ..But still heard the buzz about the fantastic cyanogen mods .. I also read that because of copyrights etc .. cyanogen mod do not contain google items ( market, gmail etc) ...Does that mean I can't use any of the googleprograms or can the be ( legaly) downloaded and installed in the rom ?
What makes the cyanogenmod so special that we even want that into our sweet SGS' ??

Although there's been some good answers already, what I'm particularly interested in is that the 6.x releases are all Froyo based which will bring a load of new amazing to the SGS, and depending on the CM release schedule, it may well in fact come to the galaxy BEFORE the official samsung froyo rom.
If that happens, it'll be a major coup for the CM guys, to not only be better than the stock rom, but to be dropping before samsung.
Froyo brings JIT and naitive apps2sd, which is awesome, as well as plenty of other goodies. The reason why the N1 recently jumped almost up to SGS levels on quadrant on 2.2 is because of JIT coding, so expect a pretty impressive jump in performance for us.
Also, there's the possibility that the CM rom will totally drop samsungs crappy slow ass proprietary file system that's caused so much woe for our devices, which translates into no need for lagfixes, and generally improved performance all around.
Thinking of streamlining stuff... No more bloatware, just the services and apps we need, which translates into better memory management, and so better stability and even better performance for multi-tasking.
Finally, no need for GPS fixes. CM should be coming with good, accurate and thoroughly tested gps code.
So yeah... All the joy of Froyo, minus the samsung junk, thats been developed by SGS users for SGS users. Might not see everything perfect in 6.1, but it will sure as hell be a leap forward. *straps myself in*

Judging by the thread over at the CM forums, yes, they've tried - they've also tried hacking it on, with no progress. It's not something you can easily just drop in. If you want the dirty tech details, head over http://www.cyanogenmod.com and check the SGS section of the forums. You'll see which thread.
Looks like theres already an alpha version in the works

Can it be ported to our phones?
I think if we could get this working everyone would most likely be grateful.
Let me know what everyone thinks. Im just throwing the idea and hopefully inspiration out there to try and get this working.
i was looking at it a while back, didnt really take a lot of time at it though. ill check into it a bit more, see what i can do
Thanks man its appriciated I see your doing alot for the forum now so im just throwing out a good work.
if this gives us a huge speed increase on the stock htc kernel with its battery life and quick charge time, it'd be tit.
Yea personally my phone lags out more then id like. Usually its when texting which i assume is because i use a 3rd party app and because i usually have a few thousand texts in my inbox but still any kind of boost without sacrificing battery would be AWESOME.

yea but to be honest, i dont think there is such thing as a completely smooth sense rom. i mean skyraider and frankenrom were close with a good kernel but i think if we got this to work to take a load off the UI/system it would be alot smoother, no little "glitches" or hiccups ya kno
Even if it's not 100% smooth if it helps without the need of overclocking well that's just great

That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. I never get lag, not sure what you are doing to yours but your are definitely doing something wrong. I have had Droid 1 users comment on how smooth the Incredible was compared to the Droid.
I am running stock rom which I deodexed and zipaligned and removed verizon bloat from. I also delete texts before they get 1000+ long. I never understood wht people kept them that long, blackmail later on?
I would love to see this on the Incredible though, I actually came looking to see if anyone was working on this.
if what I'm reading is correct, this might be the best performance tweak that could make roms truly fly.
I certainly would appreciate it tremendously.
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
Cyanogen just tweeted they will support no phones with this. Why is that? Is this a bad hack or something?
But the speed increase looks phenomenal! I'd be down for this in ROMs.
Droid Incredible Rooted!
Seems to basically do what voodoo does for galaxy s phones.

Well it seems like porting it is tricky in the second link I posted it says how the phone doesn't wanna act right after a reboot. Hmm well maybe we will get lucky and get this working on our phones.
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
So only r2does is willing to tackle this?
Hmm I really thought people would be more excited.
no sure if im going to have a chance any time soon though, busy with the GRH build, plus i got finals next week.
people may not be interested because it doesnt seem like theres a large following. CM already said that d2ext will recieve NO support from him or his team.
Did the cm team say why they would not support this? Is it too much different work for each device and thus not easy to develop as a common rom?
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
Per @cyanogen
Using the data2ext hack on CM ROMs will get you no support from us. You have been warned
Well this is the forbidden hack now
I dont mind waiting but i dont see why people arent excited i mean this would seemingly get rid of the need to overclock and with your phones which have very well known bad battery life that seems amazing to me.

I came from a Droid 1 and yea huge difference but its COMPPETELY smooth... I don't keep a million texts and for the most part it is smooth but you do have to admit you get an occaisional hiccup or the lock screen slider isn't too smooth idk I love it wayyyyyy better than any other phone ui though

Yeah, just like they probably won't support ROMs that have any sort of other mod of their ROM... and with good reason. You wouldn't support something you made if someone else screwed it up by adding a bunch of modifications or changing system files.
Gingerbread ROMs are going to be worthless until the source drops or a ROM leaks from another phone anyway. Why not work on something worth while in the mean time instead of something that's going to be completely abandoned in a month or so?
He went on to say later that the reason that they would not be supporting it is that #1 it is his belief that it is a benchmark hack, with no other use. #2 If you move the data partition to the SD (or better yet, we have 8gb of internal storage, which is probably faster transfers) when you try to wipe between roms, you leave a bunch of garbage behind and possibly have issues. Then the *****ing starts and everybody thinks it's because of your rom, but really it was just that the whole partition didn't get wiped.
I am about to flash my first ROM and looking for quick recommendations on a good ROM.
Speed is more important than battery life, and apart from that do have any other specific requirements
Mine.

I don't need anything too specialized yet. Just something recent & popular & widely used. ie the top favourites around here.
Thanks. Will take a look at yours. Are they some of the most popular around here?

Take a look at Doc's. Fastest interface and best GPS I've ever had. Plus you can easily customize your own rom using the online kitchen
Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882397

Serendipity 2.0 is THE best ROM out there as far as speed goes imo.
It will EAT your battery up though since it's oc'ed. I haven't experienced to bad but I can tell with just a lil bit more usage it would drain quick.
I would wait for Firefly (few hours till released) and try that. It's going to be fast, smooth, and perfect without being oc'ed. Will also have great battery life and GPS will work for sure. My friend told me this; he has the beta. Lol
Assonance.

Extremely stable, very fast, GPS is decent, battery life is *meh* i get about 12-13 hours on heavy to moderate usage but I charge it on my way home from work in the car.
Gingerbread themed, a lot of customation, very active developer, updates come out very easy to install ect.

They both have their pro`s and cons. CM is not pure AOSP either as isn`t TW as they are both heavily modified. I love the Samsung camera software which makes great pics. The CM ones are ok but in quality their less than sammy`s. The XtreStolite as i have it is 650MB as i have some TW modules flashed that i wanted. Performance is great and batterylife is very good, its about on par for performance but less batterylife on CM. Its all about preference off course but in usability/compatability TW is the winner imo.

I like the fingerprint too much. I have a need for security and like it to be quick. Its more reliable than face unlock. Plus its one of the unique features that won me over from the z2 which I very nearly got, I wish they would've used open sources. I feel like I'm having a break from CM after using it for so long, touchwiz is forgiving enough to use this time around, and I still get a taste of aosp when I use my nexus 7. Now do I flash L or not? I have a deb and L has no working data. I don't actually use a sim in it hardly it just happens to be the device I could get credit on. My problem is I have OCD and if I know something is not working it will bug the hell out of me even if I don't use it. But im dying to taste lollipop!

I'm like that too, if something doesn't work I'm bothered immensely by it, even if I don't specifically use that feature. Luckily, everything seems to work on CM. Maybe not as well as on TW, but they still work.

It works well for me after training it a few times. I notice cases with a lip require special technique to get a full swipe. A touch sensor would work better but they avoided getting sued yet again by the control freak idea stealing/patenting that is apple, so they used swipe like the atrix. I would have used that as a court weapon to exploit apples "originality". Get that finger scanner working and I will happily ditch TW

Hello XDA
I know there is no such thing as the best ROM but I was hoping to do a little cheating and save my self some reading and get some opinions on what would fit me the best.
I use my phone as a business phone and thus my battery is dying constantly. I got ALOT of SMS and my phone is constantly slowing down. I want something that won't seem like a old device.
I want to root to install a new ROM and battery tweaks. Here are my requirements:
MUST be stable
Smooth
Good battery life
I want something I don't have to constantly tweak. With my note 4 I essentially changed so much that at the end it became such a nuisance trying to keep modding etc. I want to set this up and forget about it, unless needed.
Thanks !
Use Paranoid Android 7.2.1

I use my phone as a business phone and thus my battery is dying constantly. I got ALOT of SMS and my phone is constantly slowing down. I want something that won't seem like a old device.
I want to root to install a new ROM and battery tweaks. Here are my requirements:
MUST be stable
Smooth
Good battery life
I want something I don't have to constantly tweak. With my note 4 I essentially changed so much that at the end it became such a nuisance trying to keep modding etc. I want to set this up and forget about it, unless needed.
Thanks !

There are people that use RR and have insane battery life, but i recommend hydrogen os because it's officially supported by Oneplus and have a better battery life than oxygen os

Thanks, I'll look into this!
I understand where you are coming from, but from a practical point of view, if someone recommended a ROM, you may find your experience different from theirs. Happens all the time. Second, it's a good idea to read first. I just got this phone. All I have done is read threads here at xda. Not even so much ROMs, but reading about the phone. This step alone has saved me from myself in the past. Makes it easier to troubleshoot problems.
Windows XP Service Pack 3.
Thread cleaned.
Please keep this thread on topic, and post in accordance with the forum rules.

I agree. I have tested enough roms to conclude that for the 3T there's no point in trying to find something better than stock
Perhaps only something purely based on oxygen os, but more debloated, like freedomOS
basically it doesnt matter, 99% is all placebo.
TugaPower is out-of-box really good, which is LineageOS with some small mods (Viper4Android Audio mod ie.)

good battery life, camera comparable to oxygen os, stable and fast rom , theme option for people who don't use substratum theme engine
Beta with Magisk for root and a kernel of your choice. Get some performance and battery benefits from the kernel (if that's the type you decide to flash). Debloat it. Use Greenify and BetterBatteryStats to eliminate wakelocks.

Smooth, stable and substratum suppprt
I guess stock is the best choice here for you. It has no additional battery hungry features like viper but is still stable. You may consider flashing a kernel instead and I would hardly recommend you to read into them since that's the best way to get to know to new kernels.

I would say oos..if u want a flawless stock experience with better battery life, use freedom os..
I personally use oos open beta 12( rooted with magisk) with elemental x kernel..it gives me good battery and flawless performance..apps like substratum and viper 4 arise works fine..
Thanks for all the replies. I tried out RR and had an issue with the WiFi dropping - since this was a business phone I decided not to flash a custom ROM. I am now on OOS open beta, the latest one. Loving the parallel apps feature!
Now to get into theming and modding. I've got the basics down already like greenify, BBS.
Any recommendations on rooted apps? What have I missed in the last year or so
