Unable to cast screen from Sony Xperia SP Lollipop - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there. Greetings from Colombia (So please be patient with my very awful english)
I got a Sony Xperia SP handset in wich I installed the Candy 5 Cyanogenmod 12.1 Lollipop based ROM and everything seems to work fine except for the Cast Screen feature, looks like it wont find any nearby device even when they are both (the TV and the phone) connected to my home network and share the same subnetting ip address. I already tryed installing Chromecast, Miracast, Wifi screen, and everything found on Play Store but nothign works. At some point, some applications dedicated to stream media files are able to transfer photos and videos to be shown on TV but they dont stream the whole screen so I might play with my phone while everybody else at home can see what I'm doing.
Before upgrading to Lollipop, I used to stream my screen to this LG WebOS Smart TV all the time without any issues, I just had to enable the Screen Mirroring feature and it inmediately showed my phone screen up on my TV. Now it just wont happen.
Can somebody, please, provide me any instructions on how to make my phone recognize or find the Smart TV's at home just like it used to be? Thanks for your attention.

You have to add a line on build.prop so your phone can fins your TV, I'll see if I can find it

Thank you, but I've been reading some entries about this build.prop line and looks like this is only for Moto G phones. If I put this line on my Xperia SP phone, will it work or just soft brick again?

[Q] Wifi direct Z1 on 4.3 couple of questions

Was trying to show someone wifi direct the other day and as it turns out it didn't want to work.
Went to album, selected a pic, pressed menu and share, scrolled down and there was no option for wifi direct.
I've also read that you have to pair with the device first.
I even tried an app that I used to use called SuperBeam which also didn't work.
Does anyone have this working?
I was attempting to send files to a Note 3, even android beam didn't work.
I don't use this feature all the time but it'd be nice to have a feature working if it's supposed to.
Cheers.
Superbeam works fine for me. 41mbps+ for large single file transfers
Sent from my C6902 using xda app-developers app
Same here. I was trying to connect via Wi-Fi to my TV Sony. I paired the devices but I never get it work and never displayed any pictures on the TV or even send them via Wi-Fi, I missing the option sending via Wi-Fi too. I don't know, I just give up.

for me it's mixed bag. sometimes it works like a charm, just press Throw, shows available devices, chosing one of them send the file to the output (photo, video, music). and sometimes - like after disconnecting and trying to connect again few minutes later - it doesn't work at all.
The point i'm trying to make is why on earth is it on the device if the device doesn't use it? I can't understand why a company would allow a protocol to be included and then not give the ability to use it?
On the vast majority of phone all you do is pick a file and select share, then choose wifi direct and off it goes, no need to be connected to wifi, infact you wouldn't even need a sim card to do it.
Such a stupid thing to happen and a bit awkward when someone with a sammy device is showing off a feature and even though yours has it it doesn't work lol.
I found myself saying "Ok just download this app" Bit long winded isn't it? I mean click share and click wifi direct job done, what gives ?

[Q] NFC Not working on my Z1 C6903

Hi guys,
I bought a Sony Xperia Z1, after a week I wanted to try the NFC to share some photos but just doesn't work. I've seen a lot of post around the Sony forum but there's no solution to the problem. I have the latest android update (.108). Not rooted or anything like that (I don't know how to do that stuff lmao)
So, do you know to fix this? HELP, is there a way to fix it without opening the phone?
I'm from Venezuela and I bought it from Amazon.com, btw sorry for my english, I'm still learning.
Make sure you have enabled android beam in options. The other device that will receive the file also have to use android beam or something similar.
If u want to send a single file then open it in album on full screen and then stick the devices together.
On a side note - NFC is useless for sending files. The actual file transfer goes over Bluetooth so all it does is just pairing the devices for you. Not worth the hassle imo...
What really grind my gears is why the hell aren't files being sent over WiFi direct... That would send the files MUCH faster and would make NFC useful for sending a lot of data. At this point? Don't even bother if it's just a test.
If you really want to try then open some page in chrome on your device and stick it to another. It should also send the website adress to the other device.
Thank you, I have done everything, but i kept searching and I came to the conclusion that is a hardware issue, I know is not a big deal but why would I want a broken phone? What if there's another broken thing or if is about to break?
I'll stick to this one for a few to see how it goes. Anyway i'll try to sell it so I can buy the z2 or wait until the z3 is released.
Thank you again, we learn something new everyday.. btw I use the wi-fi conection with my pc using media go on the pc companion and it works ok.
Are you sure you don't have a case that's in the way?
A friend of mine couldn't get NFC to work either, until she took her phone out of the hard plastic case.

How can i mirror my screen to my tv? Without a Network

Hey all, I was just wondering if anyone knows a way to mirror my screen to my tv. Its a Samsung smart tv with wifi. Right now im running Cataclysm M rom and I've tried a few different ways with no luck. I've seen a few videos that show kitkat had an option under display to mirro screen but its not there in M. I know i can use Chrome cast but i dont have a network at home right now. Any ideas?
Did it work on LP, that is did you actually use it with out being on a network together?
Would seem the devices need to be networked in someway...
Have you tried using your phones hotspot and connecting your TV to it? I would imagine this would answer the "same network" issue... Even though it may not be ideal or elegant.
I never tried it on LP, i got the tv after i moved to M, I see there are ways to do it with a Miricast dongle and wifi direct, but their a bit pricey, i was just hoping someone knew another way to do it.
And ya, i can tether to it and watch youtube and stuff, but it'd be nice to be able to just mirror the screen and not use tethering.
Screen mirroring Motorola one
Hello,
I have a root Motorola one Android 10, but I can't share my screen to my Samsung smart TV, i search a lot but I didn't have success, first I edited the build.prop lines,
persist.debug.wfd.enable=1 (before it was persist.debug.wfd.enable=0)
persist.hwc.enable_vds=0 (before it was persist.hwc.enable_vds=1)
I added this in the end
wlan.wfd.hdcp=disable
I added another line but I don't remember all because I erased it, i only remember the beginning
Persist.sys....
But it can't work, in my TV only show something like
"Screen mirroring: motorola is connecting" but then the signal is lost
Nothing that I tried work, only one thing is good and is that in my cellphone in the option of share screen after change this line: persist.debug.wfd.enable=1 (before it was persist.debug.wfd.enable=0) I could activate wireless screen and it let me TRY to connect with my TV but without success.
In other post show the last configuration with an extra thing, I should edit a file (wfdconfig.xml) and it supposed to stay in this direction system/etc/ wfdconfig.xml. But I search in all files and I didn't find.
Maybe someone can help me.
Thanks.
@Felipe24
As far as I know, Chromecast is the only way to cast from Android. Your television probably doesn't have Chromecast built-in, so you'll need to add a Chromecast receiver.

Screen Mirror Not Working via Google Home (Chromecast)

Anyone having issue unable to screen cast from Google Home to chromecast? It will disconnect immediately upon clicking the screen cast button. There is no issue casting directly from apps such as youtube etc, but I want to mirror cast my screen. It works previously on my S7 Edge and Note 7...
Thanks!
Did it yesterday, it works just fine. Had the same issue you're describing with my S7E occasionally. Would kill the Home app and reboot the Chromecast, then it would start working.
Works for me. After I reset chromecast, but I'm sure it was my flaky CC not the phone?
Sent from my SM-N950U using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Hmm I did a factory reset on the Chromecast, still the same problem. I even reinstall the Google Home. It shows "Disconnect" immediately after I click cast screen, damn annoying..

I had a similar problem... it turned out the phone was connecting to 2.4ghz WiFi and the stick was connecting to 5ghz WiFi at home.. when it was same network it worked fine else it disconnected.

I've been researching this problem for the past week. What i've gathered so far is that some process interferes with mirroring after my phone has been running for a while... If I restart my phone, or chromecast - it works no problems. It also works casting netflix, youtube, etc. I have a samsung TV, and when i try to connect my phone through TV, it also works. I called Chromecast yesterday, thinking that it could be a defective chromecast device, but it works other than the above issue. So I think that some process gets activated some time shortly after phone reboot, and that's why when i press 'cast screen/audio' from Home app, it says 'disconnecting', because some other process is already working... I will be calling Samsung Tech support tonight, to see if they have any clue, although i don't get my hopes up. If their tech support guys are the same as their customer service reps, I won't get far with them.
I also tried any and all settings changes that i could think of, and nothing works. The best solution for me is either to restart my phone prior to mirroring, or just connect from TV to the phone (it works that way), not from phone to TV. If I figure out a solution, I'll try to update. I have a similar thread on Android Central in Note 8 General section that i started Sunday, 10/15/2017. No one seems to know the solution, and not many people have encountered this (you are the first person that i found with the same problem other than myself).
Just found this app by Samsung called "ScreenMirroring Patch", will try out after work: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...patch&hl=en&rdid=com.sec.screenmirroringpatch

My networks are the same - Chromecast and the phone. I had the problem you had previously, it would continuously drop the connection... This isn't the same problem, it just says ' connecting' and never does if i try to mirror my screen through Smart View (in my quick settings panel), or 'disconnecting' if i select 'cast screen/audio' through Home app.

This is the exact problem that I am having and the same resolution that I came to. I literally have to restart my phone every time I go to cast. I've had an issue where I left it casting for a while, but the phone seemed to forget and shut it off. The stream was still going on the Chromecast, but I could not disconnect with my phone via Netflix or through the Home app. After I rebooted, I was able to disconnect through the Home app.
I searched for a bout 10 days after I got my phone and found nothing about this. No answers, not even a mention of anyone else having the issue. I really thought I was the only one.

So I spoke to Samsung + Tech support, and they didn't know what the problem was. They offered for me to send in my device for repairs. I am kind of hesitant since i don't know if that would fix the problem, and it will take 9-11 business day, i don't have a decent phone to use for 2 weeks... He also suggested that it was a software bug, and that i wait for software update. Since we should be getting Oreo by the end of the year (fingers crossed), maybe i just wait until we get an update and see if it's fixed. I did a factory reset on Friday, but didn't check for the issue right away, only after installing all of my apps. Really don't know what to do... Hopeful that someone else discovers the solution - or concrete cause. Oh well... I will never buy directly from Samsung again. Verizon would have sent me a replacement, and I would have it in 2 days, and wouldn't be without a phone for 2 weeks.
I was curious so I tried screen mirroring to my Amazon Fire TV. Tries to connect but fails. My Note 8 will say connecting to Fire TV & my Fire TV will say connecting to Note 8 but it fails & disconnects.
I don't think wifi type has anything to do with it. My Note 5 screen mirrors fine & my Note 5 is connected to 2.4ghz & my Fire Tv is connected to 5ghz.
Tried restarting my Note 8 & even tried connecting it to the 5ghz also, no luck. I never use it but damn, just knowing that it doesn't work is not good for my health!
I recently added an exchange account, and remember a while back some phone options weren't available because they weren't secure enough and not allowed by exchange policy. I removed the account, cleared cache, and restarted the phone. It worked (usually does after a restart),but I'll will check again tomorrow
I did a search (outside of XDA) & it appears that a lot of people are having this problem with the Note 8, S8 also. I tried changing the resolution on both my Note 8 & Fire TV, still no luck for me but some say it worked for them.
Can you link to the other site's discussions? Thanks

Wow, I didn't see those. Thank you, at least mine works after restart, and now I know that's it's probably a bug, not my phone is defective

So I changed my screen resolution to 450 as in the instructions in the picture, and haven't restarted the phone since about 8pm last night, and it works, it mirrors without restart - thank you!
Edit: I also removed my Exchange account, so that could have also been the cause
My other question is how to disable volume limiter when watching videos - any type, Netflix, showbox? I can disable it for headphones or Bluetooth through sound settings, but not for videos through the phone's speaker. Thanks in advance

How to hack Chromecast so its not looking for internet??

Hi to All, I know this has nothing to do with phones, but there might just be someone here who can solve this anyway
My problem is that I live in an area in th Philippines, where Globe telecom is the only solution for internet, and a very unstable one. Sometimes the speed is all the way down to 80Kbps and sometimes it goes to 0.
This makes using a Chromecast very dificult, it's possible to use when the speed is fine, but a sudden drop in speed sends chromecast in buffering mode. I tried to get Google to help, to no avail - they don't care.
I would like to have it not searching for internet, as 99.9% of the time i use it for internal casting(Offline)!
Anyone have a solution for this?
My Chromecast is 3rd gen. According to this page https://www.techthatworks.net/electronic/what-generation-chromecast-do-i-have and use Firmware(checked that in Home App) 1.49.230269
Hope to hear from you smart people soon as this is driving me nuts, I'm back to use USB stick and not all format are supported, so I have to convert and convert and so on, in order to watch the clips.
Thank you in advance

Hi Peppe, why would it be illegal, I paid for the device - its mine I just want it to stop looking for the internet all the time, and do what it was bought for -casting.
Not possible, it's a real design flaw of the chromecast. I have slow internet and use it for internal casting too, very frustrating. Maybe get a bluray player or a roku they are better.
Thank you

The 3rd gen Chromecast will not boot or function if it can't hit Google's servers at boot. If it looses general internet connection, it will go to a "I've lost my brains" type of screen and not let you do anything. For a Chromecast, the internet connection is sadly required even if you're just mirroring locally.
