Posted this in the Oculus forums but I think it might help someone here as well.
If you want to move MilkVR content from internal storage to external SD (360 videos UI also makes it faster to pick content), it's pretty easy, you can do the same for the "experiences" (cant say for coldplay as that permacrashes on exynos) but you need to root to do those. Also this method allows to get all Jaunt content (there's quite a bit more), not just the beatle.
The same process also works for when MilkVR freezes during download and you get "waiting for other downloads to finish" infinitely.
1. get a decent file manager app, I grew fond of es3 manager
2. go into sdcard0 (device storage)
3. go into Android/data/com.samsung.vrvideo/files/
4. files prefixed temp_ are not fully downloaded files (delete those to fix the infinite queue bug)
5. if you open json files you can actually get the "real urls" for both download and streaming
6. copy over mp4/jpg to oculus/360videos/randomfolder then use the powervr tool to generate pvr thumbs if you want to have it superfancy
Obviously you can take this a step further and create a tasker task (again, root) to move them on command.
Felix and paul experiences are in the Oculus folder and can be copied into 360videos, then renamed to _RL for 3D, however you need to force audio into zarkana&strangers (videogo5 can do this without encoding). VRIntro has basic audio inside.
Jaunt content is in /data/data/ however they use a special method that puts top and bottom as images on right and I haven't gotten around to normalizing this in post. Maybe someone has any tips? This seems to be
Example for Hobbit "underwhelming experience of being on set VR" /data/data/com.jauntvr.preview.hobbit/app_jaunt/
If it wasn't for Julius Horsthuis, who recently released 2 fractal animations in 360 format for Gear VR and Oculus Rift, I would never have found this beautiful piece of software called 'Mandelbulb 3D'. It's a FREE piece of 3D rendering software to generate images and videos from the mathematics of complex numbers, aka Fractals. Apparently a breakthrough was made around 2008, when a method was discovered to render a 3D representation of fractals. You can find tons of beautiful work already on google images, vimeo video, etc. Seeing those examples of professional work immediately shows you how amateuristic my first attempt at using this software looks. I have managed to produce something though, and since the Gear VR community is craving for any content, I'm making the file available for download for FREE today at this link :
http://www.mypageofmanythings.com/downloads/amazingboxflythrough.mp4
This 1 min 47 second video gives a quick impression of what is possible with this software. It's just a teaser of what's to come once I know what I'm doing. I've really only spent an hour or 2 learning the software and setting up this first animation so far. So please forgive me for some of the obvious errors I've made flying through walls and stuff. My PC took 18 hours to render all the frames and I have spent many days in frustration trying to get the file converted to the proper format so it plays back in the Gear VR. It turns out that Oculus 360 videos does not support the same file formats as Milk VR. I have my rendered files only working in Milk VR at the moment, so follow these steps to play the video on Gear VR :
Download from link above (^^)
Create folder on root of phone memory (not sd card) called VoltVR
Copy mp4 file into VoltVR folder
Launch Milk VR, open 'downloaded' section, play file
Enjoy this free content for your Gear VR. More to come soon.

Thanks, will check it out!
Here is another clip I rendered ... unfortunately the flight path is quite lame and uninteresting. I don't have enough free time to really work on this, but I wanted your opinion on 30fps vs 60fps , so I'm using this video to show the difference :
30fps : https://www.dropbox.com/s/5424i7akdjup0qu/Trippingbox_30fps_H264vd.mp4?dl=0
60 fps : https://www.dropbox.com/s/54ljlceope49e3z/Trippingbox_60fps_H264vd high br.mp4?dl=0
Is it worth it to make these 60fps ? It looks smoother but takes double time to render (already took 40 hours to render this one)
Just updated, and the notes said that it allows side-loading from SD card. moved a few videos over to the same path on SD card as on device, restarted Milk VR, but it doesn't show them in the downloaded section. Anyone have any insight on this? I've searched, but I haven't been able to find just a "Milk VR" board anywhere.

Q: Can I test / side load my own 360 videos in MilkVR without a MilkVR account?
A: Yes, videos can also be side loaded without MilkVR accounts by creating a “MilkVR” folder in the root directory and placing mp4 files there. Files that are side loaded will show up automatically in the “Downloaded” folder and thumbnails for those videos will be generated when the app starts. The first time MilkVR sees your side loaded videos, it generates the thumbnails for them. If the mp4 file has “3dv” or “3dh” in the filename the MilkVR player will play the video as top bottom stereoscopic or side by side stereoscopic respectively. The MilkVR team would suggest using stereo sparingly as stereo effectively halves the resolution of your video.
Q: Does MilkVR support side loading from the Note 4 sdcard?
A: No, but we are adding support for it into MilkVRv1.29. Just put videos in a "MilkVR" folder in the root of the sdcard.
LOL, I must have been to milkvr.com a half a dozen times, and never saw that faq link. I'm not a content provider type, so I didn't register, and didn't think the page was for end users. THANKS Dave, for being kind and pointing out what should have been the blatantly obvious!
you are welcome. I think link was not very good positioned
I have a different problem. I subscribed to a page (virtualreal ... ) where you can download a json file and the movie. If i place it in phone memorys samsungvr folder, everything works. If i place the 2 files on sd card, i see a movie running if i look up, and a second if i look down. So it doesnt work.

Add _3dv to the end of the file name. Before the .mp4 of course.

That might work, although I suspect it won't work properly because MilkVR just isn't looking on the SD card for the JSON files. So this solution is like doing without the JSON file.
What definitely works, because I've tried it, is putting the JSON files in the usual Samsung.vrvideo folder on the phone and putting the video files on the SD card in the MilkVR folder.
You do have to edit the JSON files to change the path to the video to where it is on your SD card.
Yes, editing the JSON file (and moving it to the internal storage) is an actual solution, rather than masking the issue.
Thanks!
Hopefully in MilkVR v1.30, they will read the JSON file from the SD card, too.
How do you edit the JSON file to change the path

Use a text editor, such as Notepad.
The JSON file needs to be edited for the new location of the video in the MilkVR folder on the external card.
"local_url": "file:////storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.samsung.vrvideo/files/..." should be changed to "local_url": "file:////storage/extSdCard/MilkVR/..."
The JSON file still needs to be in the Android/data/com.samsung.vrvideo/files/... folder on the Note 4.
Hopefully the next update of MilkVR will look in both places for the JSON file.

hm, well as milk vr is designed for 360 or 180 degree movies i think they will get weirdly streched but you can test it out:
copy your movie file into this folder: "\Phone\Android\data\com.samsung.vrvideo\files"
then add "3dv" to the filename for top/bottom stereoscopic movie format
check out the Milk VR Faq for more information concerning the appends to filenames
do not find any launcher for Milk VR

Just download nova launcher and add it as an activity (you can add any app from oculus you want that way). Not sure why it isn't showing up on the homescreen.
Just long press anywhere on the screen -> shortcuts -> activities -> scroll down to Milk VR. Then when you launch the app you just have to put it into the gear vr headset. :good:

Hi,
Can somebody upload three films downloaded from milk vr "Inside the Box of Kurios" "Jurassic World Apatosaurus" "Cirque du Soleil Zarka"
I am tired of the lack of functionality of the Player branded to Oculus VR: Samsung VR, Moon Player, Video or Theater, i want a player that will allow me to add my own folders but work the same as Moon player(no file renaming). I found some good players in Playstore but how to port them into Oculus Store ? It's very annoying to remove the glasses and the phone every time you are changing apps without Oculus. Anybody has a solution how to port apps into Oculus Store ?
Before I installed a custom MarshMall Rom, I was using Fulldive and I had the mouse cursor enabled on my phone launcher and apps (not sure how, maybe because of sixaxis and my ps3 controller?).
Then I would place the shortcuts on the home screen where I could see them with one eye and click on them using the vr touchpad to move the cursor.
I just did the ROM the other day and have been messing with just trying to everything working again.
I have looked into this, I didn't find a way to import apps to oculus home. I tried using a custom ROM, but that bricked my phone. Only other way I found was to use package disabler
Is there a place to download oculus apps outside from the store anyway?
Apk extractor

The only way I know to do this would require someone who has the desired Oculus app already installed on their device. They would have use an APK extractor to get the apk file then copy it to your device and install it. Since its already an Oculus signed application it should show up in your library. You could possibly do this with paid apps as well
There is an app called SideloadVR which allows you to install apps outside the Oculus store. Be aware that you need an *.osig file to make it work. It explains the process in the app. Hope I helped
App withdrawn--URL no longer valid, no working replacement
Yes, that's right, the online 24/7 news outlet of CBS News.
Well, this is just for fun, but it is interesting in its own way and was very easy to do, so I did it (cooped up for weeks.....).
Requirements
1. This is a Tasker app and has a dependency on two library files which are part of a GApps installation. If you don't have GApps or one of my other Tasker apps already, you need to copy the two files in the zip as below:
/system/etc/permissions/com.google.android.maps.xml
/system/framework/com.google.android.maps.jar
Set permissions for both files to rw-r--r-- and reboot. Without these files resident, the app will not install.
2. MX Player or some other video player capable of playing network streams. Here's a link to the appropriate MX Player version and for the custom codec package. You need both.
3. Realistically, either NoRefresh or FastMode, unless you like the flickering video effect.
4. USB Audio, unless you are really good at reading lips. I actually tried to turn on the CC for the stream, but it seems they do not CC everything anyway, so I gave up. Just for fun
Installation
Install apk as normal from a file manager or via ADB. On first run (don't forget WiFi!) it may ask what app you want to use to play the stream. On my device it gives MX Player and Opera (nope!) as options. The screenshot below shows that MX Player automatically goes to landscape (although the device remains in portrait mode) when playing the stream. This is a freeze-frame screenshot, without NoRefresh, so it looks really great (and is actually in color when you take the shot). I find that the contrast on NoRefresh has to be adjusted quite a bit on the + side from default to get something watchable, but there is a limited range of grey and it's easy to wash everything out looking for that perfect spot. My kernal doesn't support FastMode but from my memory of it I would expect a lot of ghosting.
In theory it would be possible to extend this app for general IPTV use by providing a text file containing stream URLs and creating a menu system to choose one. But I'm not that bored (or crazy) yet
