Can anyone confirm that my Dot View case a fake? - One (M8) Accessories

Got a Dot View case off eBay (advertised as genuine) but I am not so sure. This is my first Dot View case so I don't know what I should be looking for to confirm its authenticity. Reasons I think its a fake are;
It came in generic, non-HTC packaging (I know this can sometimes happen if accessories are OEM)
The case itself doesn't have a great finish - some of the adhesive between the two parts has seeped out a little and the two parts aren't flush
When looking at the rear of the case, you can clearly see the large square part (I guess it has a magnet in it?) and the seam where the front and back are joined
You can see the magnet (again, I guess thats what it is) behind the front HTC logo
Does anyone have a genuine case they could post similar photos of or at the very least confirm my suspicions?
Thanks

Yes it is fake. I have one too. On genunine HTC is magnet one dot to left (4. picture). Possition of magnet is important for switching to DotView mode.

I got 3 of those for 9$, all are fake but working.

[Q] Whats your ideal case for the NC?

What is the ideal case for your Nook Color?
Is it one that is available or not?
What are some of the features you would like it to have?
Do you want a fold case that covers the screen?
Is the micro usb port in a convenient location?
Looking for some ideas. Working on a shell now for a mold. Not sure if anything will come of it but want to see what you all are looking for in a case. Feel free to post your thoughts. Thanks.
I would like to see a one sided hard cover that can protect the screen when not in use and snap onto the rear when in use. Probably use the typical four corner frame system you see in many cases so nothing is obstructed.
Also, have a stand "system" so that when it is snapped to the rear you can prop up the NC. Maybe something like what you see on back side of keyboards. And like some keyboards I've seen, have different levels of lift. One lift level that slightly raises the NC off the surface, for typing and such. Another lift level that is like the leg stand you see on the EVO 4G or Archos 70, for video/picture viewing and the like.
Heh. First post around here. Been meaning to chime in on a thread and this is the perfect one to start. Only because I've been looking for something I described but there is nothing out there yet.
I'm looking for an inexpensive silicone gel skin, something I'd keep on pretty much all the time. I'm also keeping my eyes open for sturdy travel case.
There seem to be choices out there for both, I'm just waiting a bit for more of them to hit ebay.
I missed your last question about the micro usb port. IMO its not in a good location because its awkward when trying to read while charging, particularly when reclining or lying down. I'm concerned about putting pressure on the usb cable, especially considering its not just a standard cheap cable. Not sure how a case will help this, though.

ill be trying out a few designs once the mold sets. i can add a ribbon cable in the case to move the USB port to the sides which I might try. trying to keep it thin but actually worth putting on.

Are you designing desktop/multimedia cases as well? I would love additional speakers on the NC and also a magnetic swivel X mount stand for desktop use.
My ideal case is not available yet. It is an envelope-like case that will allow me to pull the Nook out and use it naked. Something in nice black leather.
Something similiar to the covers of the TI calculators, with a little more thought about aesthetics obviously.
A 90deg connector or adapter would be nice. Then run the cable through the corner loop thingie.

Good Idea, I may try that out.
Im not any sort of professional or anything, but I do have access to some pretty sweet resin's and molding equipment. Carbon fiber is the idea, but the glass mold and how I want to do the front part comes first. Ill keep the thread updated.
ideal nook case
looking for something very close to this case
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0040VNRTG/ref=oss_product
just substituting the swivel belt clip for a kickstand
i like the idea of moving the usb jack to another spot but i think that would add alot of cost and effort to the case build
Rube Goldberg lives; or, is this even possible?
You asked for the ideal, here is mine. Not at all sure it is doable....
1. In the interest of keeping the total package as slim as possible, no back, unless it is necessary to support other features.
2. [Front] cover has a slot for a pad of paper and/or corner slots for index cards.
3. [Front] cover is hinged on the right (I'm right handed and I want to be able to write easily).
4. [Front] cover has a foldover flap to keep the paper or cards from contacting the screen when the cover is closed.
5. The cover can fold 180 degrees so that the cover lies flat against the back of the tablet.
6. The cover can support the Nook as an easel in landscape mode.
7. The cover can support the Nook as an easel in portrait mode - this might involve some sort of short extension legs or other support to raise the lower edge of the Nook an inch or so (and this might help with the need to plug in the USB connector at the bottom).
8. Bonus points for the ability to fold out a handle attached at the lower left corner when in portrait mode, sort of like a hand mirror.
9. And of course it should be strong, light, durable, elegant, and less than $40 US.
I'm ready to order as soon as I see the pictures of the finished product.
Thanks for the ideas everyone. Haven't worked on it in a few due to being out at CES. Unfortunately there were NO cases out there. Working with Speck to find something but tried everything else and could not even find a nice slip cover. Otterbox said they are testing designs so no real info there either.
My ideal case is something like
http://shop.brando.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-case-with-bluetooth-keyboard_p05269c0299d057.html
this.
Bluetooth keyboard case, waiting for bluetooth to work for NOOK!! and I could use it as a netbook and a tablet. IDEAL.
This is my cheap (free) case for my nook color. It’s the zippered case for my trucks instruction manual. The patch covers the ford symbol; if I need to hide it in plain sight I can pull the patch off and leave it in the back seat. It fits perfectly and there is a plastic divider on the inside I can put business cards and a small pad of paper (as others have asked). All I keep in it is a set of skullcandy headphones in an microfiber Oakley sunglass bag for cleaning the screen.

Perfect case for the Nook Color
Before I bought my Nook, I had a Pandigital Novel that I bought on eBay.
In the same eBay search results page the Novel appeared on was a great case called BookArmor. Although it was $35, I bought it. And I haven't regretted it either.
The BookArmor case comes with a set of velcro-like pads that stick on the back of the tablet and allow it to be fixed to the case. The case itself is laminated steel and plastic covered with textured fabric. It zippers shut and the zipper sides are soft and stay out of the way when the case is opened. You have total access to all side buttons and ports. The inside surface that comes in contact with the screen is covered with a soft foam pad.
When I decided to get the Nook, I found out that the case I had for the Novel is the exact same case for the Nook Color. I really like this case and haven't even considered another one.
For more info go to extremeinkjet.com and click on BookArmor cases in the blue left-hand column. Pick any Delta 6 case ... there is a Nook Color one. Checkout their video at the bottom of the page.
It looks like this case is really popular too ... there aren't any left on eBay and the extremeinkjet site shows all out of stock for the Delta 6 case. Amazon shows one Delta 6 left for the Pandigital (same case) but it doesn't even show up for Nook Color.
I don't know if I'd call it perfect. But, I bought the B&N case with the vertical flap and ribbon with magnet on the end to hold it closed/open. It works well for me.
If they were available in store when I bought my nook, I would have also considered the silicone one. Although, if I went that route, I'd probably prefer the otter box version with the hard resin exterior an rubber liner. I would also have considered the black leather pouch one where you completely remove the nook to use it.
Alas, none of these were available to me when I made my purchase so I'm using what I have.
With either the otter box or the silicone I would gain a thinner form factor. But, I would never be able to completely cover the screen. With the pouch one, I would gain the thin form factor when using and would not add much when transporting. But, it's basically just a branded leather sleeve.
In the end, what drew me to the case that I bought was the vertical flap and ribboned magnet. 1 - with the horizontal flapped ones, the magnet does not flip around to hold the flap to the back of the case so it's open like a book with the flap dangling out the right side. 2 - with the vertical one that I got, you flip the cover over the top, move the magnet to the back to hold the cover in place and you have all your nooky goodness to go to town with!
Just my 2 cents.

Wow...love love love this idea.
This would be great..a hard protective slide case.
This would definitely be a $$$ maker.
I bought a "Industriell Cover in Storm" cover and it works perfectly, very simple, protects the screen, and it's small.
I'm stealing your "DON'T PANIC" sticker on the back idea. thanks for reminding me.

Hey guys, here's a case I recently ordered which looks quite nice. Nothing fancy, but it looks slim enough to do this tablet justice! If anyone has seen anything else out there, please share!

Yep, will do!
So my Krusell Malmö Tablet Case just arrived. I have had several cases for various tablets and phones in the past and this is probably one of the better ones I've had. I always have a case for my phone/tablet because I want to keep my devices in the best condition possible but unfortunately, it also covers up their original appearance. Good thing about this case is that when open, it still exposes the majority of the tablet allowing you to show off how thin the tablet is to your friends without having to take the tablet out
The buttons are all exposed as are the ports except for the MicroSD card port (and I guess also the SIM port for the 4G owners), but then again, I doubt you'd need to remove it that often.
The tablet wedges itself tightly into the two corner brackets on the upper and bottom right side of the case (when portrait). The fit is very tight so you won't need to worry about the tablet falling out.
It also allows two different standing modes. You can either fold the cover backwards similar to the iPad cover:
or you can lay the cover flat on the table:
I prefer the second option because it feels a bit more stable and there are many more angle possibilities. You won't need to worry about the tablet sliding because the inside of the cover will provide enough resistance. Speaking of which, the inside of this cover feels really nice and velvety and will help keep your screen in great condition.
It also wakes/locks the tablet when you open and close it. Overall, I am very satisfied with this case. It's pretty much as thin as they come but still very sturdy and solid at the same time. Highly recommended! By the way, the pictures make it look a little grey but I can assure you that the case is as black as the tablet

This one is actually about 9 pounds cheaper But yeah, it would be nice to have a comparison. I think they both perform all the same functions (stand angles, magnetic cover) so it would be a close match.

Looking at the pictures, so only my assumption which can be wrong, it looks like the Krusell case folds a little bit over the front of the screen where the Sony Office does not seem to do that as much.

Do you mean the brackets holding the tablet in place covers up more of the bezel than the Sony Cover? You're probably right about that. The Sony one looks like it's clicked into the four corners whereas the Krusell one is wedged into two corner brackets. It's really minimal though and doesn't cover the screen up at all and I hardly notice it.
EDIT: A friend of mine just bought the official case and it seems that the Krusell one is a tiny bit thinner. The reason for this I think is because the official Sony one basically has an extra inner layer underneath the tablet (which allows it to have 4 corner attachment points compared to Krusell's two). Not sure if I'm making any sense But if you look at my pictures, you'll see that when standing, the bottom of the tablet is resting against nothing whereas the official Sony one is resting against another layer. Wish I took some pictures...we were too busy Shadowgun

Do magnets in horizontal belt-clip cases interfere with the M8?

I assume that dot-view official cover works by magnets, similar to the smart-cover for iPads?
I was looking at these three:
http://store.androidcommunity.com/rugged-qx-ntx-horizontal-pouch/4A120A16420.htm
http://www.htcdepot.com/ventev-universal-horizontal-pouch/4A120A16476.htm
http://www.pdair.com/index.php/leather-case-for-htc-one-m8-horizontal-pouch-type.html
I noticed that that the magnets on that middle one look pretty strong with how much they dug into the case in the photographs, will this mess with the M8 in any way? Or would the placements of these magnets (or the ones in the other cases) effect it?
Seems that they will, so then by any chance has anyone used any of these cases with the M8? Do they activate the dot view mode while in the case by accident?

My wife users a case like this for work, and the magnet does trigger the dot view mode. She wears scrubs at work, so a holster case is a must for her since scrub pockets are so loose.

I had this issue with a magnet car kit and if you rename the file htc dot matrix . apk then the screen will shut off when you put it next to the magnet but you can power it back on and resume operations. Must have root to Rename file.
I am on my phone but it is in something like:
Private_apps/htcdotmatrix. Apk
Must use root browser to see and Rename it.

I've had great luck with PDAir cases. I used it for my M7, although I'm using a different one for my M8. I'm still in the hunt for a pouch case myself; mine is a bit tight. They ship from china and take a while. Great quality.

Sprint HTC One M8
This is the one I got:
http://www.shopandroid.com/ventev-universal-horizontal-pouch/4A120A16476.htm
It uses magnets, but so far I haven't see it set off the DotView feature. It also fits my M8 perfectly, it's not tight nor loose.
Price is a bit expensive though, but the other places I found it at it was too cheap to be true (and I've heard some complaints about the really cheap ones being knockoffs). Do pay attention to the model number though, there is another one of the same size by the same company but has a clearly different design and s slightly different model number, not sure about the magnets or how well that one fits as I opted for this model.
How does the phone fit on this one? Do u use any cover to make it fit? I don't use covers...
Sprint HTC One M8
nothing to do with a case but...
i have a macbook pro and when i lay my m8 on the pro, near the right hand palm rest area, the phones screen will turn on. sometimes if i move it a certain way or over a certain area i guess it triggers a function for one off these case? will these magnets harm my device?
Magnets make the screen come on.

something like this? (you can find it even cheaper - i bought mine for some 5$ i think)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEKEDA-SA...t=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=&hash=item4ad7ec2f25
i have this one and i'm pretty satisfied with it, although the Nekeda logo lettering faded out after some time (i have it for over 8 months now)
it's leather like, but silicone (or soft plastic) - protects the device just fine (except the screen
only little downside is that i have to remove it when i want to connect my external usb/otg sandisk dual stick (because it fails to fit in the device's usb slot properly because the sandisk's bulkyness)

which hole is that?
i don't have any holes on the back of the phone...
what i have on my device is the following:
- top IR sensor (on the top left)
- a small hole (on the top right)
- mic & speaker (bottom left/right)
- usb port (in the middle bottom)
- audio jack hole (on the bottom left)
my cover has all those holes i've just mentioned
Cool ill give that case a try looks like its the AT&T version with the mic on the back. See how long it takes to cross the pond

i think that same hole is the one i've mentioned in my post above (on my d802 model it sits on the top right side of the bezel - opposite the IR)

Smart flip-cover for Mi Pad

Can anyone recommend a flip cover with smart function (a magnet to unlock the screen) from either aliexpress or ebay that does not suffer from following symptoms:
a) too powerful magnet --> screen unlocks/locks when you fold the cover to the back
b) the plastic will not brittle or break in normal use
c) when folding the cover to a stand it will hold together and not fold open by itself.
I got a cheap cover from aliexpress and it has all the 3 problems mentioned above and was thinking to buy a new one but looking at the feedback of different models (incl. Mookie) all covers seem to suffer from 1 or many of the above mentioned problems so I am little hesitant to order a new one unless I am 100% (or at least 90%) certain that i will get fully functional smart flip cover.
E.g. This one looks good but there is no way of knowing if it suffers from the above problems or not:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Luxury-High...Tablet-/152313007338?var=&hash=item2376900cea
So any recommendations? Please provide a link to the item if possible. Cheers.
Well I ordered the one in the first post and I am quite happy with it. Magnet is working fine and it won't turn the screen off when totally folded backwards. The cover's plastic hasn't shown any signs of breaking.
But the c) point could have been a bit better. There is no magnet holding the triangle-shaped fold that makes the tablet stand on landscape but so far it is still working okey while the tablets weight is holding the fold together.
So far I would recommend the particular product. Good quality, perfect openings for buttons and ports and etc.. Smart function works like a charm. I would give this 9/10.

Seems to stay closed.
I've ordered one and I'm really satisfied, thanks.
To anyone who wants to order it from AliExpress - it's called BGR Mi Pad case.
Get one from xiaomi.com or xiaomi app from your device. Only works if you are in China though. But I have one and it is built of fake leather and magnets and backside is pretty hard, I guess they put some metal plate in side of it.
