Hey guys, after successfully changing my OS to cyanogenmod I wanted to do the same on a second amazon fire 5th gen I had laying around. So I rooted it, installed the google apps, downloaded Flashfire from the google play store, but when I used flashfire to flash the most recent CM12.1 from the XDA thread it kept saying that the data was incompatible or something. So I tried doing a factory reset and tried again, but the same thing kept occurring. After that I thought I would try installing the SlimLP mod instead, and it worked. Once I got SlimLP up and running I downloaded Flashfire again, and went to go install CM12.1 once again, but this time it got stuck at the very beginning. It didn't even look like it was writing any data or anything. The whole process only took about a minute on my other amazon fire, so I knew something was wrong. I waited 15-30 mins and no change. Eventually I turned it off, and rebooted, hoping for the best. Unfortunately, it loads the CM boot logo, and just gets stuck their permanently. I tried going into boot recovery by holding down volume down, and the power button, but when I do that it gets stuck at the amazon boot logo. I can still get it to boot into fastboot by holding down the volume up and power button, but when I try to flash a recovery image using fastboot it says that Flashing images is locked, or something.
Can someone tell me if there is still anyway to save it?
This will work
Hi
So i have the same tablet as you do and i faced the same problem as well and i found a way to fix it and this is what i did-
1) I went to recovery mode ( Power button and volume up button at same time) and factory reset and cleared data.
2) Wipe cache patition
3) Then I used this tutorial so i can go back to original state
4) Once there, I rooted my tablet again and download google play store and blahh balhh
5) Then I downloaded flashfire apk
6) This time i didn't download latest CM 12.1 for the tablet but this one ( cm-12.1-20151230-R01-UNOFFICIAL-ford.zip )
7) And gapps
8) I flashed and it worked beautifully.
9) Once done then I flashed the latest version CM 12.1 for the tablet and it worked amazingly . Sorry for not providing the links because i am new and i still have to wait a bit longer Thanks for reading this and i can guarantee 99.9% this work. Don't forget to tell me what happened.
Yeah, but like I said, the device freezes before it can get into recovery mode. I can only get into fastboot, but I don't think there is anything I can do with that.

Return it to Amazon. I rang them and basically claimed ignorance that the device had stopped working, they sent me another one (and I returned the 'bricked' one). Luckily the replacement one came with 5.0.1 so I carefully made sure I did not upgrade before replacing the ROM instance with CM12.1.

exactly the same thing happened to me as in the op. there is absolutely no way to fix it with the bootloader being locked down. i filed a replacement, telling them that after i installed a program it no longer goes past the boot screen. (i call that a grey area as far as lies go). go through their little trouble shooting performance where they ask if the device is charged.... then they will replace the device as long as it is in the warranty period. drop the old one off at ups, and 2 days later you will get the new one in the mail.

I rooted my droid 4 a few months ago when I first got it so I could tether. I removed a couple of programs using titanium backup (blockbuster app and some other bloat). Phone worked fine until monday when the touchscreen stopped working. I did a reboot (power + volume down) whereupon it just sat at the M "Dual Core" logo. I tried booting into the recovery menu but selecting "recovery" didn't do anything - it would just hang.
Last night I was able to get it working again by going into the recovery menu and selecting asp fastboot, then using RSDLite to push a stock Droid 4 ROM onto the phone. However, it didn't wipe my old system, and didnt install over it either because all my files were there, and the programs I removed were still gone. So the phone worked for a few hours then the touchscreen stopped working again.
I repeated the process with RSDLite and after a few failed attempts where the phone would hang while booting, I finally got it to boot into the OS again. And this is where I am at now.
I am pretty sure that the problem is related to the OS that is on the phone now and that I need to wipe the phone and start fresh with either a custom ROM or the stock D4 ROM. The problem is that I can't get recovery to do a factory reset. As I mentioned above, recovery just hangs and doesn't do anything. I am reasonably literate when it comes to this stuff but I get really confused because there are so many different ways that people seem to do this stuff (safestrap, bootstrap, CM( etc). I would love to try CM9 but my priority right now is just to have a phone that works. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

select recovery by holding the vol buttons and power on boot just like fastboot. press vol - for recovery. when u see dead droid hit both vol up and vol down and theres the recovery
Thanks, I was finally able to get into recovery. Wiped data and did a factory reset which again got stuck at the logo screen. Went back into fastboot and ran RSDlite again to flash the stock ROM which gets me to the "Welcome to Droid4" screen where it says "touch the android to start" but the touchscreen is unresponsive. Starting to think there is something physically wrong with the phone....
send it to motorola, I've heard their customer support is pretty good. but if you voided your warranty by rooting/flashing other roms, I've heard bricking the phone and sending it in works to get a new one too
The only way I can send it back is through an insurance claim so I am trying to save myself $75j if this thing will just work. I just did a reboot and now the touchscreen seems to be working so I am going through the setup process....so weird.
Update: I was able to get the phone to load up and configured my google account etc. It appears that the phone is now running on completely stock installation of OS.....

So it has been a couple days now and the phone works totally fine. It looks like the problem was that by removing whatever bloatware that I did, the phone's OS got borked when VZW pushed an update of some kind. Flashing the stock ROM without doing a factory wipe would temporarily solve the problem but eventually the update would get pushed again and the whole thing would lock up again. The factory wipe + reinstall seems to have been the solution to the problem.
Hi!
Device Info:
I have a rooted Kindle Fire HD 7" running CM11 with TWRP 2.7 running as a recovery. I have had the tablet for approximately a year and a half, so hardware issues from age wouldn't be overly unexpected, but not necessarily expected either.
Background Knowledge:
(Note: The following has happened before in CM10.2, but disappeared upon updating to CM11)
One week ago...
-Fully functioning tablet running CM11 with TWRP 2.7 recovery set up.
Four days ago...
-Device begins to randomly shut down about once an hour
-Later in the day it begins to shut down soon after I reboot it (as soon as 5 minutes)
Two days ago...
-Death
-Not really, but the device shut down a couple seconds after fully turning back on
My Response:
My first discovery upon looking into this problem was that fastboot was fully functioning and seemed to be unaffected by the shutdowns (I assume they were caused by maxed out RAM). I attempted to boot into recovery, only to find that it was unavailable, and booted into system instead. I then decided to flash TWRP again. I made the stupid mistake of deciding to use a brick-fix tool instead of just doing it myself. Unfortunately, I just opened the first file that looked right in my Android directory, which happened to be a tool designed for Kindle Fire HD 1st gen. I am not entirely sure what happened, but I assume it wiped everything it could get its hands on and put in an incorrect replacement.
The Actual Issue:
The kindle is now throwing a fit. Now,when I turn it on, it launches the stand Kindle Fire logo, shifts to the Fastboot logo, then turns off.. or at least the screen does. When I press the power button after this, nothing happens. I must hard shutdown in order to even activate the pathetic turn on and fade action. Next, I plugged it into the computer, planning to fall back on my amateur knowledge of fastboot, only to find that the fastboot logo means nothing (probably). When I plug the device into the computer, I head the plugged in chime, then exactly 3 seconds later, the disconnect chime. This is the only indication I have that anything is happening, as the screen is off. The fastboot logo either means nothing, or the three seconds is not long enough to establish a connection to the computer.
Help? Anyone?:
I apologize to come on here acting like a noob who panics the moment he feels discomfort and does no research of his own.
Before I posted I searched the best I could to find any issue similarish to my issue and come up with two, only one sounding similar at all:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2729536 - Similar issue, but not really the same symptoms. The only real similarity is the device.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2421487 - More similar, even kind of used my same description. The symptoms are not the same, the major problem is that I cannot establish fastboot connection. (And device is not the same)
Thanks for any help that can be offered!
I would save a "fastboot -i 0x1949 flash boot boot.img" and flash the boot.ing from the cm 11 zip, it should attempt to flash as soon as the kindle kicks into fastboot. If anything it might help fastboot from freaking out.
Sent from my LG-P769 using Tapatalk
Thanks, I'll try that. I'll update after I try it.
Update:
Thanks! That worked perfectly! It stops the device from fading, allowing me to flash a new ROM. To note to anyone else who might have this issue, the command will only send upon the initial boot. Any of the following connects/disconnects will not work.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Follow-Follow Up:
Flashing the boot img from CM11 works great at pausing the bootloop allowing me to communicate with fastboot. Unfortunately, upon flashing stock amazon system img and TWRP recovery, I am still unable to launch into either of them. Whenever the kindle reboots, the "extreme bootloop" begins again, forcing me to flash the boot img again.
Should I be trying to get a hold of the stock bootloader from Amazon? (And if so, would you have any suggestions as to where I can grab it? I have thus far been unable to find it)
Thanks for any help!

Its probably from the selinux xattribs left over on /data from cm 11, Amazon's kernel doesn't have selinux support and crashes/freaks out when it sees them. You would have to do a internal storage wipe to get rid of them if flashing back to amazon os.
Sent from my Amazon Tate using Tapatalk
Would erasing userdata/system effectively remove it?
(Sorry for my ignorance)
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
No need to wipe system, only user data hence why I said if twrp is still acessable to do a internal storage wipe, it wipes userdata.

I have had my HTC One M7 shortly after it was release. I got it from ATT. I immediately found a guide here and rooted it. I had TWRP and every time ATT tried to push an OTA I would refuse. I haven't bothered with it until a couple weeks ago when I wanted to put in KIT KAT. so I found m7_Stock_Rooted_4.18.502.7_odex.zip. I did a dirty upgrade, as the thread said it was okay. And it was. I am going on a trip so I purchased a sim unlock code in between upgrading to kitkat and today.
I got another OTA. I must not have read the bootloader correctly to refuse the install. I was no longer rooted. I come back to XDA and thought what the heck, I'll try out this ROM, it looks nice: Android_Revolution_HD-One_83.1.zip. I use TWRP to put the ROM in and now I am full of fail. After a little bit of Google I decided to try to do a factory reset. And now I am stuck in a boot loop. I have went back to Google but so far all I have seen is use adb or some other method to put things on the "sd card". But how would I do that when this phone doesn't have a sim card and I can't hook it up to my computer anymore? FWIW at some point in the boot loop my computer will recognize the phone, but it won't stay in that state long before it goes away. What happens is my phone starts too boot. Boot screen comes up. After about 10-15 seconds it restarts. This time saying entering recovery.... at the top. That lasts for about 2 seconds, phone goes black and reboots like normal. Over and over.
Best I can do is get to the android hard reset screen by holding power and reset screen. But that is saying "tampered" and "unlocked" at top. I chose the factory setting option and that doesn't do anything to alter the current state.
Edit:
When I went to flash Android Revolution ROM I chose wipe data. It gave some error that some files were not copied. So I ran it again, straight from TWRP. But that never installed right and I was stuck in a boot loop. I don't have many options with the android hard reset menu. But if choose restore, I will get to see the screen from TWRP flash for just a moment before it goes away and reboots.
Also I do see my phone when I have it plugged in the control panel (windows). Under devices and printers, it is listed as Android 1.0 under unspecified devices.

Thanks dude. I had an older version, since I originally rooted this phone around 18 months ago and used a version from back then. I watched a youtube video how to push TWRP onto a soft bricked device using ADB. After that, I was able to install the ROM.

glad i could help with just a question
They say once your device is turning on, its not a hard brick, well explain this. My motorola Nexus 6 won't boot, when I try to power it on, it shows the Google logo then shuts off immediately. When I plug in the charger from a complete power off, the white battery sign keeps flashing, it shows for 1 second then shuts off then repeats the cycle of showing the battery sign then shutting off. It boots into bootloader/fastboot mode fine, and I have tried flashing the factory image, forced flash each partition individually, YES ALL OF THEM, YES I HAVE THE LATEST SDK YES THE LATEST FASTBOOT AND ADB, YES I CHECKED THE MD5 OF THE FILES, YES I USED DIFFERENT CABLES PORTS AND COMPUTERS. it flashes fine in terminal all the files go through with result ''OKAY'' but it still shuts off immediately while showing the first google logo after i reboot. It won't even boot into stock recovery after the flash, it just shuts off after the google logo. i tried with costum revovery same result. i tried 5.0 LRX210 and 5.1 LRX22C. This isn't my first nexus, in know that flashing factory image should fix 99% of issues, ive been flashing phones and rooting for years and i know that nexus devices are somewhat impossible to hardbrick. i made sure to exhaust every option i knew of before posting here, Ive tried the toolkit and its options countless times ive had many sleepless nights now over this. Please help.
P.S I didn't purchase officially from google or Motorola, I bought it for $580 from a guy who claimed he bricked it trying to install a font pack ''iFont'' so I figured let me buy it and restore factory image, easy win. Didn't work. He said he rooted it, installed custom recovery and euphoria os rom. Then he installed the fontpack, it told him to reboot to apply changes, and when he rebooted it wouldn't boot past google screen after that. not even to the boot animation, It just shuts off. When its off and u plug in the charger it does the same thing, you just keep seeing the charging symbol over and over because its constantly rebooting. Its a T-Mobile Nexus 6 BTW, model number XT1103. I am now looking at a motherboard for the nexus 6 on ebay which is $300, as this is the only thing i see left to do. Please any help would be appreciated. I can promise a hefty $$$ reward for any individual that helps me recover it to a working state.
I think they say as long as you can get to the BOOTLOADER it's not a hard brick. But as far as the issue itself, I have no idea. You said you flashed the factory images and it still didn't help?
U manually flashed the images correct? Any errors when flashing? Are you using the flash all bat script or flashing each file separate?

Its all BS, there's not really such a thing as a soft. A Brick is a Brick. If your phone is bricked, the only fix is to send it for repair so the manufacturer can fix it. If it can be fixed without doing that, its not a brick.

no.
but after flashing the factory img, you might have to wipe data for it to boot.

NONE of this suggests that your phone is a brick. In fact, it all proves that it is NOT a brick.
*which is not to say that it isn't BROKEN.
"i tried with costum revovery same result. i tried 5.0 LRX210 and 5.1 LRX22C"
Let me ask you this; did it reboot when you booted into a custom recovery? If custom recovery worked, then it seems like the unit can still be saved.
BTW: LRX22C is also 5.0. Specifically, 5.0.1. 5.1 is not available yet.
So a little bit of clarifications first;
HAVE you tried to perform a factory wipe (via recovery) or otherwise FORMAT (not "fastboot erase") the data and cache partitions? No part of your message mentions formatting the data or cache partitions. If the init is unable to manipulate/mount a possibly corrupt data or cache partition (or possibly some other partitions as well), then it WILL REBOOT.
In addition, some logs of the reboot could be useful if you are able to obtain any. A somewhat modified boot image can enable adb and kernel logging at a point from before the reboot occurs.
P.S I didn't purchase officially from google or Motorola, I bought it for $580 from a guy who claimed he bricked it trying to install a font pack ''iFont'' so I figured let me buy it and restore factory image, easy win. I don't think you need a new mainboard.
If what he explained to you is correct, then my previous about fixing corrupt data partitions should solve the issue for you.
Agree with the guy above me. Same thing happened to me on my Nexus 9. Manual flashes all successful but could not boot. Booted into recovery and did a factory wipe and all was well. I know this is the nexus 6, but it sounds like corrupted data.
I have a Blu R1 HD that I have been on again off again fiddling with for a few months that is soft bricked. It will turn on but it will hang on the second "Bold like us" splash screen after the animation ends. It had no recovery installed to it prior to the bricking, I have attempted flashing a stock rom to it with SPFT but It gets interrupted less then 3 seconds in. From my reading It seems like I have the 6.6 preloader that stopped spft from working.
Is there anything that could be done with this to get it working once again?

Depends on few things.
Do you know what was last thing done before this brick?
Have you tried holding volume up when powering on, to enter recovery(stock, i know you mentioned no custom recovery installed)?
It goes to and past the animation , so i don't think it is a secure boot type of failure. But maybe a bad data problem. See above statement about recovery.

I have gone into the stock recovery menu, And i have attempted factory data reset, clearing the cache, and a root integrity check. The integrity check says one item fails the check and that is "/system/lib/libLLVM.so"
The last thing that I recall happening is that I had a pop up saying that an app had stopped working, But it reappeared immediately after closing it again several times. I thought rebooting it would stop whatever was happening, but it never came back to the OS.
The device has a small crack on the bottom right hand side of the screen that happened when it fell from my pocket on top of a ladder. A family member who also works with electronics as a hobby thinks that may have something to do with it but the phone worked for weeks after the break happened.

I do not know if there will be any way forward with this.
As you are not bootloader unlocked, sp flash refuses to connect, and only thing that can be done on stock is "factory reset" did not help, you might be done , other that see if can send to Blu.

Sending to blu isnt an option. Out of waranty period, And I also opened it to make sure there was nothing obviously physically wrong.
I also tried using the dirty cow tool, But i cant seem to see the device in ADB. Fast boot however, can see it.
Update over ADB/SD in the stock recovery wouldn't lead me anywhere would they?
