Hi xda, i own a z1 and its currently running kitkat rom build number 14.4.A.0.108, rooted and unlocked bootloader
What kernel can i install that supports underclock the cpu to 1,4 ghz, because i feel that at 2,3 ghz its just an overkill. And the device heats up a lot.
Also how can i disable the touchboost feature, the cpu was at 300 mhz during idle, but when i touch the screen its jumps up to maximum frequency, how can i disable this ?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
If u just allow z1 run in 1.4ghz, i think u need buy another phone

well the phone is given by someone to me, so no need to buy another phone, also i really liked the build quality
i am not heavy gamer or anything like that so i think 1,4 ghz will be more than enough

Hello, everyone. I know that it possible to double the original clock speed on the motorola milestone 1, but how safe is it, in terms of overall reliability? a friend gave me a milestone that has been previously overclocked to 1.2 ghz, and i want to reduce the speed back to about 800 Mhz, but i`m wondering if it`s possible to have already permanently shortened the life of the processor....any opinion is welcomed !
is it possible?? YES
does it reduce the life of the CPU?? YES
did it already reduce the life of the CPU??? i think YES. every overclocking reduces the life of the CPU no matter if its 1,2GHz or 800MHz
AND... YES underclock to 800MHz. i think 800 is a very stable and good speed for the milestone. you will not see or feel any difference to 1GHz or more.
a very precise answer. thank you

Mhh.. 800 GHz seems a little much i think. Try around 700 GHz, your phone should also be a lot cooler
[ sorry couldnt resist ]
Napsterr hit the nail on the head. ANY overclocking will reduce the lifespan of the processor, and harm battery life.
I personally have mine OC'ed to 1.25ghz without any problems, but that is because I know when it kicks I can replace it. If you aren't able to replace it, the safest option is always stock clock/voltage.
yeah i agree with all of you above, 800mhz is a sensible speed……over 800 will make milestone heat up a real lot and drain out battery at a alarming rate……
Guys does anyone know if there is a way to control the Cpu / Gpu throttling on the Xperia SP on stock rooted roms?
XSP still needs development since its a new phone
Try doomlord's kernel if your looking to overclock your cpu. cant tell about gpu as i havent been able to get its setting through overclocking apps..hopefully upcoming months are gonna bring better kernels n mods

I don't want to overclock the CPU or GPU.
what i wanted was to set the temperature at which the CPU throttles the GPU and CPU,
as I noticed it throttles them way to early and causes performance to drop,
i've found a bunch of files in system/etc ...
thermald.conf
thermald-8960.conf
thermald-8960ab.conf
which most likely have the temperatures set in them, just dunno if they are degrees C or farenheit and it isn't clear which refers to which cpu speed either,
was hoping someone can help me out here ...
regards
hello guys .... I ask for help because my LG 4X HD gets hot during the games, with any game, I tried to set 3 cores 2 cores 1 core, but continues to heat up too much ... you can suggest me a rom or a kernel who do stay cool LG 4X HD? or you think it's a hardware problem? Thank you very much.
Setting number of usable cores won't help much, what you need to do is to underclock and/or undervolt. Also other than stock kernel can reduce the overheating.
currently use original kernel 20d but continues to overheat ..... how do I set the undervolt correctly? thank you very much
You need root acces and Trickster Mode - aviable at GooglePlay.
Also it depends on the kernel, whether if allows under or overvolting. If I recall correctly, you can't undervolt on stock kernel, but you can underclock, which will definitely help to keep the phone a little bit cooler
I already tried to set to 1000 MHz, but continues to heat up .... which kernel do you recommend that less heat and can do the undervolt? thank you very much
Hello guys
How much can we in theory overclock our cpus? And how do we know that it is safe to overclock at a value?

2,3GHz + 30% = 2,99GHz but there is no one who is such a phone murder like i but when i have a pc with linux i can try 3,4GHz dont know why but i just want test such extreme oc
and you see if its safe on your device when you test it cause most xz1 have another chipset version
ps the kernel with highest freq atm is triinity ultimate kernel by @f(x)THaxxorX which has 2,8GHz oc + 650MHz gpu oc

So it would be possible for someone making a kernel which can oc until 3ghz?
And what about gpu?
Ps yeah I know he has done great job

when i have a useable linux pc (which can take a while) i do something and maybe @f(x)THaxxorX can make something like an extreme edition for those who wanna kill there z1 :silly: would be cool
and i think 650mhz are pretty much, i think its enough for our z1 ^^

In theory you can overclock it as really high, but all chips are built differently and some can OC more than others (like PC cpus). However, unlike PC s, you cannot easily change the cooling on our phones and OC would definitely reduce the life of the phone if it's in constant stress. You could probably overclock it by increasing core voltage but remember it's a phone, not an overclockable rig. Sorry I couldn't give you an exact answer.
Hi guys !
I've been trying to add overclocking to Android One, I'm able to add another frequency (both Overclock and Underclock) but I'm able to test it, the 1391 MHz was the stablest overclock frequency I could get. Decreasing frequency lower than 590 MHz makes booting slower (I don't know why).
Check the screenshot, I'll report more news once I get things finished.
I have attached the mt_cpufreq.c just in case anyone have a kernel source and want to try the overclock.
EDIT: It seems max frequency can't be changed since it's hardcoded to 1.3 GHz, it keeps jumping to 1.3 GHz when screen is turned off, but the frequency sticks when phone is rebooted, but not on screen off.

EDIT2: It seems that mt_ptp also controls DVFS, which is interesting. This means we have to edit two files and disable restoring frequency to its default table.

EDIT3: I found this in mt_cpufreq.c :
Code:
static unsigned int g_max_freq_by_ptp = DVFS_F0;
Which is defined in the same file, the DVFS_F0 is :
Code:
#define DVFS_F0 (1300000) // KHz
The DVFS_F0 is 1.3 GHz, this might explain why the max frequency keeps jumping to 1.3 GHz when screen off. But this is just an assumption.
I've added mt_ptp.c just in case anyone want to checkout and help the development.

Interesting
I had given up all hopes of low level modifications such as over clocking /underclocking/under volting and kernel level wake gestures like double tap to wake etc... This gives me something to look at. Thank you
It seems that max freq can't be set to other than 1300 MHz / 1.3 GHz.
Can anyone here using CM12.1 confirm this bug ? Since it might be because of the ROM but I'm unsure here, it can be either ROM or my custom built kernel.
BTW, 470 MHz isn't fully implemented, the kernel refuses to use it. It might be because I haven't defined it in the volt switch function.
EDIT: Another possibility, it seems on mt_ptp, the clock are either hardcoded or defined in other file. So I have to say that overclocking might be still far away to be achieved.

GPU is another thing here, it's still too hard to OC CPU itself.
Does the Android One uses MT6582 or MT6582M?(Are there more differences between them other than GPU frequency? MT6582: [email protected]; MT6582M: [email protected])

MT6582 I believe. I never checked but on kernel the chip folder (/arch/arm/mach-) is mt-6582
Can it be used on a 5" screen and MT6582M?

Depends, does your phone kernel source exist ? If yes, then you're free to try. If not, then don't.
BTW, please don't think this is just a 'install the .c file and get overclock'. It needs many work, and such, I advise you to have at least some advanced knowledge of Linux Kernel.

i had overclocked sprout in almost every possible sorts i can do. you have not defined 470mhz freq table properly in the file , pm me if you want to know my experience. :good:

Not really, but yeah, it kinda drain battery more than normal 1.3 GHz frequency.

How about the you underclock in order to save battery as 1.3 quad core is not that necessary for mild usage.

low clock means less processing power so it lags if i set both minimum and max frequency to 200mhz else it is fine[emoji23]

OK, so the device will run smoothly on ~550 MHz without loosing too much on performance and save battery also, ?
