Hi guys,
I just broke my phone's screen & digitizer, it's all black except for a few lines at the top of the screen, and I've used screenshots (viewed on windows) to verify touch is doomed as well.
I need to enable usb debugging to mirror the phone to windows, but I'm unfortunately not in any town area for a few days to buy and try a otg cable with mouse. I think there's a way to enable usb debug through abd, but I'm no expert on this, please help...
My phone's bootloader is unlocked, it's rooted, TWRP, can't remember exactly if it's on 4.4.2 or 4.4.4.
I know adb works with it, but I haven't use adb since 2 or 3 years back.
I can copy photos, videos, and audio recs through windows, but there are contacts and certain app data with my notes which I don't know how to retrieve / can't find through windows.
Can anyone help me out? Much appreciated if you could give step by step guide.
Thanks in advance....
adb needs usb debugging enabled, that's why its called Android Debugging Bridge.
Not much you can do, unless you van somehow navigate to developer options and tick the option + confirmation dialog.
Anyway, maybe someone else got a better idea
thanks liveroy, i'll try to get a otg cable later
Pretty much you can do if you have unlock bootloader, flashing twrp will give you adb by default.. Many more things you can do in fast boot

Salik, thanks for informing, but unfortunately, my phone's battery is out and it doesn't seem to charge anymore. So, I'm now just patiently waiting for my X Play to arrive, and give it more protection At least it comforts me when I can't get back my two years worth of notes :silly:

psouza's one-click root is not working for me. when i try to run it, it says "searching for the phone" and hangs.
I just got a replacement from Verizon and i notice it is XT862. Does this matter?
I have the proper drivers installed, I have Debugging enabled, and it USB is set to Charge Only. Not using the original usb cable bc I don't have it (does this really make a difference??) but i have tried numerous different cables.

Any ideas???
Did you try mass storage or pc mode?
I had that issue with my USB cable. I used the one with my device and it didn't come up. I went grab another USB cable in the house and it worked.
yeah, tried them. Didn't mention that cause if I understand correctly, it should be in charge only.
thanks for the help!
I hope you figure something out good luck
Edit: have you tried running command prompt as administrator?
yeah. same result.
I read in another thread that you were required to us the cable that came with the phone for it to be detected. But also, I used a BlackBerry branded cable to do it on mine, and it worked.
come to think of it, i think i used a blackberry cable to root my first d3. will give it a shot and report back.
why the heck would it matter what cable you use? Though it doesn't make sense to me, it appears that the cable is indeed important.

Download the USB and Charging Drivers off of Motorolas website, make sure your phone connects to USB mass storage after you do this, then switch to charging mode.
It took a blackberry cable *and* reinstall of the moto drivers, but im up and running and rooted. now, to figure out how to get my other d3 to stop bootlooping...
glad to hear that you were able to root sorry about the bootloop though, have you tried using the SBF file to flash your rom back to stock to attempt again? i'm just getting into the d3 mod scene so i can't provide links to files or anything other than what i was told to do in response to questions i had and unfortunately that was one of them lol,
I had to use the cord that came with my phone. For some reason Motorola is bad about not using standards. For example there was an old 355 flip phone that is a Motorola I used to have and it wouldn't charge with anything but a Moto charger. It may be the same port but not the same compatibility. Thankfully it will accept a charge from any microUSB source.
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA App
Doesn't your phone have to have "USB Debugging" enabled as well?
USB Debugging enabled + choose Charge Only mode. That should do it.

Yeah, I was able to flash the SBF. It was really exhausted and couldn't figure it out when I originally posted, but after a nights sleep, I was able to do it just fine.
Before I send my phone back to verizon, I was wondering - Is my phone still rooted after I flashed the SBF? I would ordinarily just run an app that checks, but i can't get past that annoying "activate your phone" screen.

that sucks that you're sending it back to verizon, hopefully next time when you root and rom, it won't botch the radio up lol

uhm, what are you talking about exactly?
my keyboard is broken so they sent me a replacement. It was during the process that I was trying to unroot the one thats going back to verizon that I softbricked it.
I have fixed it. Now I want to know if the phone is still rooted or not. And the radios have been totally fine the whole time.

Hi there,
I'm new here and if’m not in the appropriate place for this post warn me please
So is this, I needed your help for a subject.
Starting from the beginning, I have a LG Optimus Black P970 whose software version I dont know but I know that isnt the last
Not rooted or anything, is stock
My situation is that some friends of mine have changed the pass and now I dont know what is
I don’t have on usb debugging, or root or anything
is there any way to enter the mobile from cmd or other program so that i can back up contacts, sms etc ..?
already have adb on cmd, android studio, syncdroid, moborobo, doubleTwist, mobiletrans and none of them managed to enter the mobile as it is locked by pass and the USB debug n is on
in searches have seen that doing volume down + g button+ power button it makes full hard reset I don’t want that…
and I read that from the recovery mode it activates the USB debug, which would be good! this phone has recovery mode? if so how to go for it? (only works in rooted phones??)
I read too that an emergency mode but not quite understand if you cound explain to it better please
I've tried starting the adb, but he don’t recognizes the phone
I need you help please, if you need more info about the phone or anything else let me know!!
For now thank you very much,
Regards to all,
ps (if it helps the phone is in a version where isnt possible to change the pass from google account)
sorry if my English is bad xD

It doesn't erase your phone. I don't think you had to have debugging enabled in the first place.

Again, I don't believe any data will be lost. You just need a PC with ADB, a USB cable, and P970 drivers installed. I used the method before without any problems.
I need help with this desperately, so please bear with me.
For some reason my USB debugging was turned off. I dropped my phone about a foot onto wood floor with a case and the LCD broke. Phone still works as I'm getting notifications and connects to my PC.
Won't show the files because USB debugging is off.
Pretty sure I can't get a cable and hook it up to my TV because its not supported without rooting or without downloading an app which I cannot do, obviously.
So am I done for or is there a way to help me?
I saw somethings here and there but nothing was really detailed or what to do if USB debugging was not enabled.
Please help me!
Thanks.
EDIT: I have not tried recovery mode yet because the phone still has a charge and I'm not sure if that will work anyway

There is no LCD on this phone
So what are you trying to do? Get the files off your phone? Please can you answer the questions below?
- Is the bootloader unlocked?
- Is the device encrypted?
- Does the device have a screen lock?
Device is working properly and it does not have a screen lock.
I just need to access the file that are on the phone

Not sure about the other 2. It's a stock Nexus 6.
When I plug the phone into the computer it says 'no files' which is because usb debugging is off.
So how would I be able to get the files off the phone?
If its on marshmallow, it will be because the default menu option is USB for charging not MTP transfer.
Have you got twrp? Could try and mount the partition for data, not sure if its possible without a working screen though!

No, you need USB debugging for everything except browsing the files, but as mentioned on Marshmallow when you plug a device in, there is a notification you have to select to allow you to set it to allow that.
If touch works, you might be able to do it, with some guidence / screenshots from Marshmallow userrs.

Hi,
So I busted the screen/digitizer on my N6. Phone will still ring and give notifications but screen is dead.
With no way to take the phone out of charge only mode and access it via USB, is there any kind of work around to recover my files on the phone without resorting to buying a new digitizer/screen for $150(already got a replacement phone). I'm comfortable enough with computers and doing cmd functions, I just have no idea how to tackle this.

Do you have TWRP recovery installed? Booting to TWRP should give you access to internal storage.
Is ADB enabled in developer menu (which itself would have had to been enabled). If so, the obvious answer would be to reboot to bootloader and use adb pull.
If nether of those options, then *maybe* you can use a technique where TWRP is booted on the PC. I'm on the road, so I can't test that for you.
Nope no TWRP, not even rooted and I didn't set up developer mode. Learned my lesson and have that all set up on my 6p, guessing I might be screwed.
Thanks so much for taking the time to try and help me out.

I'm not so sure I'd give up quite yet. The booting twrp on your PC might work. requires USB debugging enabled.
Do you have tasker? Maybe we could create an auto task. requires usb access which you don't have.
That's what I get for spitballing before coffee.
So, unless your bootloader is already unlocked and you can fastboot flash twrp, you're stuck. I'm sure you're aware, unlocking the bootloader now would wipe your data you're trying to recover.
Hi folks,
I am on my way to unlock the bootloader (2 days remaining) so I checked if everything was OK to prepare the installation of the EU rom but unfortunately adb doesn't see my phone.
OEM unlock check
USB debuging check
Everything is ready but I can't see the phone !
Windows 7 see it, SD card and External !!
Any idea ?
Thanks for your help

Hi I had this problem too, often do when starting with rooting and what not.
I would make sure you have latest 'platform tools', run all your adb stuff from there.
Also in Dev settings revoke USB authorization and switch debug off and back on.
Kill any adb process and either when you restart , you should get the pop up on the pc to remember device.
Sometimes the pop up appears after running adb devices after doing the above.
Also had issues with third party USB cables before, try the supplied one if really struggling still.
Make sure you got system wide adb drivers if not already. Good luck.
Try connect cable to USB 2.0 instead of 3.0
Hi Guys. I am having a similiar prob.
In Xiaomi ADB it says "looking for device" but it never finds it. I have tried different releases of Xiaomi ADB. I have updated java. I have checked update driver through device manager. USB debugging is turned on. I have tried revoking permissions and starting again etc. I have tried different USB ports and cables etc. I am at a loss. I have used the tool before on an older phone with no prob.
Edit - just tried with a different phone without success.
Edit again - had success with a different laptop so all good.
