Moto x 2014 Low call volume - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I've just sold my AT&T moto x 2014 (Best in call sound) and got this Tefla version of Moto x XT1097. Unfortunately this devices has the lowest in call volumn, i can barely hear the other person. Can anyone guide how can I manually set the volume up? Thanks

must be hardware problem, if pressing volume up button during call dont help you, you can try power off the device completely, press volume down + power button, in bootloader menu, press volume down untill you reach bptools.. press volume up too select bptools, you will boot in bptool mode, in apps now you can see cqatest apk, click it, and check the audio section, there are some test of mic, speakers etc, do check them, if you are getting low voice on that test means there is a hardware problem.. if you are hearing it louder then this possibly a rom problem. power off and reboot normal too return in normal boot..

Thank you so much. I ran the tests. I am still getting low sound in the earpiece. What do you think I should do? Get the piece replaced? My moto x 2014 AT&T variant is so super loud. My head hurts when i receive a call on this variant.

Yes might be the earpiece is faulty, replace it or sometimes its just a dirt inside which keep the volume low. Thats not a big issue it can be easily fixed by the local vendors, the only headache is removing that sticky back cover and placing it back

Yes, that's the thing I am worried about. Local vendors might mess up the phone when opening.

No man. I didn't have the courage to put it in the hands of some local repair guy. I tweaked the mixer_paths.xml and changed the value of RX1 Digital volume from 84 to 88. The sound is bad but a little loud (better than before). but its still disappointing.
If I change my model from XT 1097 to XT 1095 using the tutorial posted on the forum? I've heard it'll change the region and it can affect the experience.

Umm you can try xt1095 by twrp.. Or just do a thing make backup of current rom, psd, boot and pull it too hard-disk install cyanogenmod for testing purpose see if it makes any difference.. If pb is still same then its hardware for sure and its easily can be fix. Btw local vendors of (khi) are not that much bad i have changed glasses, mic, speaker, camera of around 35 pieces

I also want this to happen
I think it's a hardware failure because when I raise the volume all the way up my ear literally explodes
I don't know exactly but maybe it depends on your network provider?

Yes, it may be a hardware defect or maybe the grate is dirty.
Still, how can we raise the volume?
I know there is one way thru the hidden menu, but not sure on the details.
I think it's not a hardware failure, but maybe the grail is dirty i don't know, but still I hope that someone has a solution to crack the volume up... A booster app or something in the system files. Anyone ?
I don't know, maybe alsamixer?

Alsa mixer will not work on this device....:crying:
Alsamixer works on my 4x. I can increase loudness of main speaker. And it is crucial to make radio work on our phone
That is wierd. I m on stock 20b software but the app emty when I open it.... I can install the files but thats it...
I have a similar issue with out-going volume being too low when wearing headphones.

Internal Speaker very quite while phoning

Hey there,
i have a problem since i got my One (april) but it seems to geeting worse. If i am on the phone its sometimes really hard to unterstand my partner because the speaker is so quite. I do not mean handsfree phoning, its just the internal speaker. It happens with all kinds of roms (rooted
+ s-off). Whats interesting, is that if the call is quite, and i go for handsfree it es quite as well, so i thinking about a software issue.
If i listen to musik the speaker is fine.
What could i do to search for the problem ? My phone is on the first hboot and running android 4.4 android revolution 41.0
any tips for me ?
thanks!

Their is a feature in the phone that lowers the volume of the ringtone when you pickup the phone ... it may be interfering with normal operation ..try disabling it
it's in Settings / Sound / Quiet ring on pickup and pocket mode

well their are a couple of other things .. there's a tiny mic on the backside of the phone that tells the phone your in a loud environment and to raise and lower in call volume, theirs a tweak to override it somewhere here on the forums .. I'll look for that. EDIT Found it >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2406524
The other thing is the actual speaker grill can get plugged up with debris have you tried cleaning those tiny holes ?

applied the mod. did not help as well.
I think theres really some sort of HW issue, because of all the different roms i used to use there was no changes.
maybe there is some sort of mini speaker in there with a problem, or a amplifier problem

Low earpiece volume while in call verizon moto x

Hi everyone. While on a call I can barely hear the other person no matter what I do. I turn the call volume all the way up and the sound stays the same. Otherwise this phone works great, Should I take it back to verizon?
I'm having the same problem, have to move my ear around to hear and the fact that my battery goes from 4% to 90% in 1 min and now charges when it wants to .... So I'll go back to my lg g3

after some time I got use to it. I think its the covering on the top speaker that makes the volume so low. After re positioning my ear I can hear it well enough but I still wish it was a bit louder.
That being said, I find no fault in this phone, its gorgeous and really fast and comes with no frills android experience so I decided to stick it out

Loud speaker takes about 2 solid seconds to activate during call

So i called someone just to check the call quality in both ear piece as well as speaker phone. But then i realized that it took a brief moment to activate the loud speaker. First i thought it might be a proximity sensor issue. But after testing it few more times, i found out that proximity's got nothing to do with it. It was always working as intended after i press the loud speaker button. But it always takes a solid 2 seconds to activate. Might just be a minor bug that can be fixed with a software update. And yes i did try clearing cache and recent apps and did try rebooting afterwards. It's still taking 2 seconds to activate.
I can confirm this behavior. I think what it's actually doing is fading the volume up when you switch to speaker, which makes it seem like it takes a few seconds to switch over. The reason I think this is because it seems to do the same thing with ringtones... when my phone starts to ring, it quickly increases the volume over the first second or two of the ring. My guess is some Moto black magics.

Ya i guess that's definitely some moto sorcery going on there lolz. And i guess this thread didn't pick any traction because these days, not many people use their phone for calling purpose anyways?

Echo problem

HI,
I have op3t oos9.0.6 rooted stock rom and stock kernel
There is echo issue while calling (the other side hears himself)
I found many users have it too and it's something with software
I tried defluence app but didn't work, is there any other solutions for this? is there anyway to switch secondary mic off during call?

Did you increase earpiece volume by changing values in some system file?
I did
But I think it never worked since I didn't find files placed in that flashable zip file in phone's system and earpiece sound didn't change after flashing

Thet is strange. I am going to tell my story. I changed the values for higher, because the volume was low. After that the caller could hear himself while calling and the volume wasn't significantly higher and was definitely lower quality (because the speaker was blasting 140% of its capacity). Going to the phone repair store was much better option. The guy disassembled the phone and cleaned it from the inside and that fixed the problem.
From the other side maby the flashable zip added or changed something making the echo effect appear for you.
@wojtek007pl I didn't change parameters manually but flashed a file, do you have original system files for mixer_paths and mixer_paths_tasha?
Everything with mixer in name, but from oreo. You can try to change whole file, or look for major differences. If this doesn't work you can try to get it from somebody else. If it makes no difference than I don't know what to do.

it does its job but still echo problem is present even when i decrease in call volume
is it safe to clean earpiece grill in repair stores? i live in iran and they never opened an oneplus (in fact they never heard of it) and i afraid they break something since there isn't replacement parts here

I don't think there is huge probability the repair men would break anything, because the disassemble process is pretty straightforward and the guy cleaned my speaker on the go in 30 minutes and took little to no money (that is random local to me repair store in Poland). You can buy spare speaker cheap on ebay from china (which is probably not an option now considering the virus situation). But if you run the original mixer files and if you test with low and high volume and there is the same echo (with the same volume) then probably hardware is not the problem and I don't know what is. On some site i saw a post suggesting to turn off okay google on any screen to fix the issue, but the rest of the post say that most likely some holes on the phone are covered/clogged, so I would probably head to the repair store, tell about the problem and suggest cleaning all the possible holes most importantly the earpiece speaker grill.
Btw how old is your phone?

It's 3 yrs old, I bought it second hand a month ago
I tried cleaning 2nd mic hole and it made it better, but still there is echo problem
I think both hardware and software problems together made this echo, since some users reported they fixed that problem after hard reset or by flashing leanage os

My moms OP3 had this problem, it went away when I dismantled the phone and completely cleaned the speaker, apparently the sound is bounced on all dirt and wanders inside the phone and down to the microphone and gets heard by the other part.
