Hi all,
I've made a simple app that decreases number of clicks required to play songs via Google Play Music (which is important for safety when you drive).
When you click this app's icon it launches Google Play Music and immediately starts playing. The behaviour is similar to FM radio behaviour on most head units.
You are welcome to download and use it (it's free): Music Start and Play (Google Play Store)
Nice! I haven't received my head unit yet but I'll definitely install this once I get it. Thank you!
Do you plan on doing this for any other music apps?

I've made a similar app for PowerAmp (it is not published in Play Store). But I don't know if anyone need it.

Actually this can be done via the PowerAmp app itself. Therefore I cancelled the app release.
Go to PowerAmp settings -> Audio -> Audio focus -> Resume on start.

Thanks a lot! I did not know it was right under the hood, though hidden in an unsuspecting manner.

So Google Play Music is one of my favorite android apps, i use it daily and i never really had many issues with it until i got note 3.
Like usual i just plug in my headphones and start listing to music. the problem is that sometimes after 1 song sometimes after 2, the next song is playing but there is no audio. I try to switch tracks and same thing.
Couldn't figure out what it was, i removed the headphones and plugged them back in and the audio started playing again. Tried skipping to the next song, and no audio again.
Does anyone have the same issue or knows how to fix it? I've updated the app to the latest version but i still have that issue. I tried removing the updates and same thing. Can't remove the app completely since the note is not rooted and i am not planning on rooting it just yet since the security in Knox gets triggered and voids the warranty.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!
Figured it out, it was the built in EQ. Once disabled , everything worked. Now i have to find an aftermarket eq that supports google music

I now presume you simply disabled the eq in the Google Play Music app. Here is a complete solution to fix the EQ bug.
So i did some searching on google specifically for the equalizer, and this issue is a problem across many galaxy devices. I do not have the link but basically the stock equalizer needs to be disabled.
0. Get the replacement equalizer for Google Music called "equalizer" (only equalizer)
Disable Stock Equalizer:
1. Go to settings
2. Go to device
3. go to sounds
4. go to music effects
5. Select "Equalizer" instead of "Music FX"
I have been using viper4android on my Note 3. I had been using volume+ before I got my N3.
Viper is VERY good and has a tonne of settings.
The only bad thing is that it has little hiccups where the music fades out for a moment and then comes back. I don't like the hiccups, but still worth using to me.
Oops, meant to say I mostly use Google Play Music. It also works with Pandora and most everything else I have tried with viper.
I had this problem (stock, no root) and the equalizer was not turned on. The ATT OTA seems to have fixed my audio issues.

Did you install it from the play store or from this xda thread? If the latter, I presume you edited your build.prop? just checking.

While on the subject, when I use Bluetooth audio in the car, the samsung player automatically plays instead of google music. I have selected google music player as the default but the samsung player always starts to play. I am not able to deactivate the samsung player app. Is there another work around to not let it play at all?

That doesn't seem to work for me. Only way it controls it at all is if I start playing the music on the phone first, which is rather annoying. Am I doing something wrong?

Also works perfectly with BubbleUPNP.
I use my phone as the renderer and my tablet as my interface/playlist when driving and I can use my watch to skip/volume/etc.

I do think you have to start it on the phone first, then it's good from there.

yes, that is how it is working for me as well.
The best solution i have found is to freeze the stock samsung music app with something like titanium or rom toolbox. Granted you need to be rooted for this but it works perfect for me. I workout with a set of lg tones and control everything from my gear. I can confirm it also works to start music from the gear rather than opening google play music first.
Hello.
I've been using an app in my androidphone "Metafy" that shows track and artist on my pebble when using spotify. Since the latest update of Spotify this does not work any more. Any one have the same problem?

Found an alternative app for sending Spotify info to the Pebble music controller that seems to work.
(BTW I'm using galaxy s3 and liquid smooth ROM 4.4.2).
why don't you share what you found as an alternative?
Alternative app
I use Media Utilities. It works with Spotify and Podcast (and possibly more).
The disadvantage is, that it needs notification access to read out the current track/podcast. Additionally the user interface is a little odd and buggy.
But it works and nothing bad has happened yet.
...yay, can't post links as a newbie, but I bet you can find it yourself in the Play store ( com.batescorp.notificationmediacontrols.alpha )

Sorry I forgot to put that in there. It was not a good solution anyways it was a strange app that constantly increased the volume.
Tried Media Utilities as posted above and it works!
It does not show Album though.
In the app I added spotify, and then in settings under Application Integration i checked the marker next to Pebble Watch.
Use Music Boss to fix this, and you'll also gain the best watch app for Pebble as a bonus n

Hi Everybody,
My question is clear : i'm looking for a music browser for gear. I mean that when i play my music (songs inside my phone, not in my gear) i can controll it from the gear (stop, play, back, next song) but i don't know how to browse my music library directly from my gear, which could allow me to choose (from gear) the single or album i want to listen to (in my phone's music library). Does anybody know an app or some soft that could make it possible?
Thank you very much!

Thank you very much for your answer... But it seems to me that Spotify works only with 3G or Wifi network, and i'm looking for a bluetooth link in order to work even if there is absolutely no network available. And a solution that works only for songs stored in my phone. I'm not sure there is an answer to my question, but thanks again for your help!

I can't think of a way to easily browse your playlist via Bluetooth..... however selecting an album or song is theoretically possible with the use of a lot of tasker.

Well i know that it's possible because an app for Gear S works that way... With a tasker, yes, but i think it would not be easy to make... I'd like an app simple and ready to use, the same that exist for Gear S (unfortunately it's a Tizen app so it can't be used for Gear 1).

So I got the Pioneer 8100NEX setup last night. After flashing OxygenOS on my phone (BlissPop wouldn't work due to the DPI issue) I am up and running with Android Auto. However, when going through the music app option all I have is Google Music. The other main app I use for tunes and general listening is TuneIn which, while installed and apparently should work, is not showing up. I searched the settings for TuneIn and didn't notice anything obvious. Is this a Pioneer setting I am going to wait for or am I missing something obvious? Thanks!
I realize this is a dusty post, but did you ever get TuneIn to appear in AA? I'm having the same issue on my Nexus 6P.
Allow me to spray some Pledge/Endust on this topic as well. I have a Moto X Pure Edition running TruPureXMM 2.6 and I just purchased a 2016 Honda Civic EX with Android Auto built-in. Everything about it works great: Maps, Hangouts, Play Music with voice search, the whole thing. EXCEPT: similar to the posters above, when touching the Audio button to see other apps, the only app listed is Google Play Music. I should also note that I have multiple Auto-compatible audio apps in addition to TuneIn Radio Pro; I also have BeyondPod, Pandora, and iHeartRadio. None of them appear. Google support is non-existent at this point, which is a little unsettling as more and more carmakers are offering stock options with Android Auto.
I'm not any kind of expert, but I'm wondering if this is a side effect of having a rooted and/or custom ROM installed. Mine is stock based for my phone but it is rooted and I see that the OP had a custom ROM as well. I don't know what you are running @monorailmedic. Any information or assistance from someone who has experienced this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Do you have any adblock app running on your phone?

Disabling AdAway had no effect. However, I believe I have resolved the issue.
I mentioned that I have TuneIn Radio Pro, but I did not mention that I got it through the Amazon App Store rather than Google Play. (It was a free app of the day many moons ago.) I installed the regular version of TuneIn from the Play Store and...voila, it appeared in Auto. Same thing with the other apps - I had installed them outside of Google Play, and apparently Auto doesn't like that. Reinstalling through the Play Store got me up and running.
I don't know if that scenario is also your issue @monorailmedic, but mine has been resolved this way.

I too got the Pro version from Amazon years ago when it was a freebie. I'll try downloading the version from the Play Store in the morning. I wrote to TuneIn today, so if this is the issue, it'd be swell if they provided me the key to the newer pro version via the Play Store.

In fact, I mentioned a possible block because IMHO the apps for Android Auto can't work if they aren't able to contact the Google Play store for license activation.

Interesting... Besides license validation of protected apps (which the dev controls) this is the first instance I recall hearing where sideloaded apps won't work.
Developers of AA compatible apps can't just sideload either, even just for testing. App has to go through Google Play as a special AA beta test.
Google requires that all AA compatible apps (and their updates) be tested by them and approved for not being distracting. This is part of their protection for that. Sideloaded or Amazon etc. apps can't be guaranteed to have gone through this testing. (Actually an MD5 of the APK or similar could be done, but that could be abused on rooted devices and Google prefers everything goes through Play anyway.)
So, how are you all using TuneIn? I've been immensely disappointed that there's no favorites/presets list available via AA. Nor is there even the recent stations list available. So, how in the world do you access the stations you want? The lists that are available seem really truncated and have only strange channels I've never heard of. I was able to use voice commands once but now that isn't working and one of my stations wasn't accessible that way either. So, the whole app seems to be essentially useless to me via the AA interface. Bluetooth streaming still works, but defeats the purpose and of course then there's no access to any of the other aspects of AA.

I too have the pro version from Amazon, which i got for free. In order to get it to work with Android Auto you have to install it using google play as the vendor. Same goes with other apps that you sideload
1. Install Tunein Pro from Amazon Store.
2. Save the apk installer file using es Explorer. hxxp://android.stackexchange.com/questions/75360/is-it-possible-to-backup-apk-from-an-installed-application
3. Uninstall Tunein Pro
4. Reinstall using ADB hxxps://pixplicity.com/setting-install-vendor-debug-app/
I tested it and it works
You can also "unblock" non-play store apps in AA. Open AA on your phone, then go to "information" then tap many times on the upper bar... it will reveal "developer options". Now tap on 3-dot menu and set developer mode. You should see more apps through car headunit.
