I am looking for reviews or overall first impression of the $50 tablet. I went to Best Buy to play with one, but sadly it was locked to Demo mode and reps didn't know if we can exit.
It has quad core, but I am not sure if it's actually snappier than earlier kindle fire tablets.
I've had it about 2 hours so far. I currently own a note 4 and a galaxy pro 10 inch tab. This is my first "reader". I need a little time to get to know it. But, so far, so good. Now, I just have to root this little puppy.
Just got mine today....all I can say is that the battery life is not bad. 100% charged and dropped to 57% after my son watch videos for a few hours. Got the kids Edition. Will try and root the tablet tomorrow, if I brick the thing beyond repair, I can always take up Amazon 2 years no question guarantee

Got mine on Wednesday and i'm looking forward to read your experience about rooting it...
Received 6 in the mail yesterday! So far I like the feel but rooting would be fantastic.
I started playing with mine this morning. I was able to get the Google Play store to load (with full connectivity!) after downloading the Google Services from the play store using APK downloader. I also downloaded the latest Play Store version from apkmirror. The only issue I saw was that it didn't recognize my purchases on the play store app. If I go through my PC to the app store in Chrome or whatnot, I can send the purchased apps to the kindle fire. My only qualm so far is that the volume with headphones in seems kinda low.
To get an idea of how to get google play working, check out this link: http://kindlefireforkid.com/how-to-setup-a-google-account-on-amazon-fire-tablet/. The only thing to replace to get it working is the Google Play Services, which you can download from the play store using APK Downloader (Chrome and Firefox Addon).

Did the initial sign in process take a bit? Mine is still loading...
No it didn't take too long...I did do a reboot before installing the Play Store though, so you may want to uninstall, clear out caches and try again
Yeah all my apks won't install. They just say app not installed.
The play store apk does and play services does but framework and account manager do not

So I got it to work. Also, all my purchases show up now
Did you have to do something extra to get it to work? Here's a link to the files I used (including the Google Services apk from the Play Store): http://bit.ly/1LZaetI. Here's the order I installed them:
1. com.google.android.gms.apk
2. GoogleLoginService.apk
3. GoogleServicesFramework.apk
After those 3 are installed, reboot. After the reboot install PlayStore_v5.9.12.apk
I didn't clear any caches or anything to get it working. Good luck!

I also installed Google Account Manager, so I don't know if that made my purchases show up or not but it worked.
Anyone able to add a second account to Google Docs apps?
Everything worked fine. Now I can use the google apps normally
EDIT: everything worked on W8.1, but not in W10...
Any ideas on rooting or link to do so?

I'm sure if someone roots their amazon Fire 5th Gen they will post in the 5th Gen forum

Hi all,
New Kindle owner here, and a very resourceful Android/iOS nerd.
My question is simple-- has anyone had success in cloning the built-in "Amazon Kindle" system app?
I'm looking to use multiple Kindle accounts. One is my US account (Prime account; where I have most of my audiobooks) and one is my JP account (where I have most of my Kindle books).
From what I recall on my TF300T tablet, the Google Play store edition of this app takes your Amazon login directly from the main screen when you first open it. In contrast, the Amazon Kindle system app on Fire devices takes your login from the account you use in Amazon's version of the Settings app.
I've tried using an app from the Play Store called "App Cloner" and have purchased the full version. I tried cloning the "Amazon Kindle" app twice with different configurations, but have not played with it much more. Most I've tried is removing permissions from it, in an effort to block it from automatically taking my US login from Settings.
I'm afraid that the remedy to this may be to download the Play Store version and clone that one instead. Problem is I lost my TF300T, and the Play Store on my Kindle reports it's already installed. (Interestingly enough, Google Play doesn't recognize Audible as already installed-- making a second copy of Audible easy to obtain)
Anyone have luck with this? Would love to figure out how to make this possible and write up a guide for it.
I'd like to know this too. I bought a kindle on someone elses amazon account so their account came attached. I removed it, but then that family member asked to read their kindle on my fire. So I couldn't add the account back for 6 months. So I was hoping to just remove the default one and add the regular version from the play store but it doesn't function for some reason. I would love to be able to log into a different kindle account just for the book store. I've had a bad time switching ROM and had to get a new one so I'd like to just avoid changing the OS for now.
Well, I have some good news and bad news regarding the subject. But, overall I would say it's progress none the less.
I *DID* find my TF300T, so I was able to download the Play Store version of the Kindle app and successfully clone it. I also managed to successfully install the cloned app. Unfortunately this is as far as I got.
When I launch the cloned app, the splash screen loads very briefly and the app crashes. I will test installing the cloned app on my TF300T and see if it opens cleanly on that device.
If it works on the TF300T, then there is something on the Fire 7" that prevents the clone (or even just the stock app) from operating correctly. I will post back (or edit my post) with my findings.
I successfully rooted and hacked my Fire 7 5th Gen tablets to an AOSP rom, following the talesofatech.com article titled "Kindle Fire 7″ 5th Gen: AOSP ROM" (sorry my account is too new to post links).
There are certain apps that I cannot install -- particularly, Google Calendar and Nest. After the installation process reaches 100%, I get an error that says "Can't Install app. Try again, and if the problem continues, get help troubleshooting. (Error code: -505).
Does anyone have a suggestion for how I can get around this? Thanks.

Pretty common issue. You can try sideloading your apps.
I just tried sideloading, and it worked. Will slideloaded apps be able to update through the Play store?

I don't believe consistently so. For example, I have Plex purchased through Amazon. It never updates through Google Play. Maybe I'm wrong, but I swear I've had sideloaded apps get updated, but then some don't.
After I sideloaded Calendar, it shows up in my play store as an installed item.
I sideloaded Google News, Nest and GroupMe, and they both still say "Your device isn't compatible with this version", but they work perfectly fine otherwise.

Hopefully most of your apps should be okay then.
I wonder if calendar will update automatically. I had also earlier sideloaded the calendar and saw that it shows up as installed. But I don't know whether it will autoupdate. That being said, yes it's a little inconvenient, but not a big deal. For me, I don't plan on using the tablet for much of anything other than videos (Plex, Amazon Prime, Dish Anywhere), so calendar and a couple of other items is all I need and most of my apps loaded okay through the Play Store.
Hi,
Is anyone else having issues installing the prime photos app, the Amazon drive app and the Amazon Alexa app from the play store? I have trieda few times and keep getting an error code '505'.
I have also tried to install the Amazon app store to see if I can install them from there, but the app fails to install also despite unknown sources being enabled for Chrome and files.
If anyone can shed any light on this I'd appreciate it.
Cheers!
Same here
I'm having exactly the same problem. I'm unable to install Amazon Prime from the app store and updates to the preinstalled Amazon apps also fail. I've tried reaching out to Huawei, but haven't had a response yet.

I've just deleted the pre-installed Amazon apps and downloaded them again and all working now. Must have been an issue in the original download.
What's about shopping app?
Play store says it's not compatible
Same
Exactly the same as with the other apps. I deleted the shopping app and reinstalled it as new from the play store and it worked. Haven't been any updates since, so don't know whether it will update ok in the future or whether will need to reinstall everytime.

Too bad I had no preinstalled Amazon apps.
As workaround, I have installed the apk from apkmirror
Thank you - I was having this issue and uninstalling the Amazon shopping app that came pre installed (and also wouldn't update via play store) and then reinstalling it did the trick!
I've got exactly the same problem as nrdmtt. I uninstalled the Amazon Shopping app to try and fix Amazon apps not installing or updating, and now the Play Store says it's not compatible with my phone. Derp.

Same problem, Amazon shopping says it isn't compatible with my phone. All other Amazon apps won't install, 505 error. Can't sideload, same error.
The weird thing is that when I got the phone I copied all settings and apps from my Samsung S7 edge via Huawei smart clone. All the amazon apps worked but prime video was SD not HD. Saw other people with the same problem that said deleting and reinstalling fixed it. I tried this and then couldn't reinstall, so the next suggestion was to remove all amazon apps and reinstall. Wish I'd never tried as no Amazon apps will reinstall, tried all documented fixes and also reformatted the cache partition. Also noticed the play store via web browser shows the prime video app as already installed on my P20 Pro.
I'm not factory resetting my phone as this doesn't always resolve it so will just do without any amazon apps for now. I'm now on the 110 firmware, C782 UK O2 and still the same. Amazon and Huawei are looking into it but haven't heard from them for a while now.
So after I uninstalled the Amazon Shopping app I've been able to successfully install Amazon Music. I've not tried any of the others as I don't use them.
I'm guessing we'll have to wait for an update from Amazon.

Ok so I just sideloaded the Amazon Shopping app. It's the latest build from May 31st labelled version 16.10.0.100. It installed fine and other Amazon apps install as well. Tested with Kindle installed from the Play Store.

Uninstalled all my amazon apps, but now none will reinstall when attempted from Play store. Now have no amazon apps on phone pigged off right now. Really need to get this sorted. I am going to get onto Huawei tech support and log this with them too, hopefully the more that do will force a correction. Will have to revert to my old Samsung S7 to watch Prime video and listen to music on my travels now.

I had the same issue, I removed all amazon apps and none of them would reinstall, just got the 505 error and Amazon and Huawei couldn't help.
Recently I managed to resolve it, follow these steps, it may work for you too:-
1. Go to settings
2. Apps & notifications
3. Select Apps
4. Tap the settings gear at the bottom
5. Select App links
6. Here I saw the Amazon shopping app listed (even though it had been uninstalled and didn't appear anywhere else) Your phone may show a different amazon app
7. Tap the Amazon app
8. Tap the app logo/text at the top of the screen
9. Now there's an option to uninstall, uninstall the app and now you should be able to install most amazon apps.
Now I can install any amazon app except the shopping app as the Play store says my phone isn't compatible, so I sideloaded instead and it works fine. It looks as though sometimes the apps may not uninstall completely which obviously causes issues. I haven't seen any 505 errors since.
Hope that helps.

You are wonderful, worked a treat. So happy to have apps back as now means when I take my mother on an 8 hour crossing of the Irish Sea, I can stick on my headphones and watch a movie instead!
for me amazon prime video came pre-installed on my p20 pro and has got latest updates.

Pleased it worked and thanks for the update! I went almost 3 months without any amazon apps so was happy when I figured this out.
I've passed the solution on to Huawei because I think a few are having the same issue.
yeh I can't get the latest update to amazon shopping as now says not supported for any of my huawei devices
Amazon Shopping App issues
I was having same issues, couldn't even find Amazon shopping app from my P20 Pro on Google Play and on my laptop was getting "No eligible devices for app install".
Have however managed to install from the Huawei AppGallery on my phone. All the writing is in Chinese in the AppGallery but once installed and opened, it's all in English. I was able to sign in with my existing amazon account and it lists an outstanding order that I'd just made from my laptop. All seems well. YNWA.

None of the above solutions work for me. Amazon App Store won't open, the rest of Amazon apps work fine.
Hi Guys,
Just unpacked my new fire hd8.
Did anyone already successfully install the play store on this Android 7 based device?
Would it work to simply try fetching the usual files from Nugat and install them?
Thanks for your help

ok, just gave it a try:
Google Services Framework and Google Account Manager 7.1.2
Google Play services 14.3.66 64bit nodpi
Google Play store 11.9.14-all
After starting Google Play the Fire insisted on installing nee Google Play services. I let it do it's job.
So far it worked. I can install apps.
I'm getting it on Saturday. How is it performing?

Quite ok, much faster than the older Fire 7 I had, and gave up on.
It is very usable. Downloaded quite a few apps now, and most perform well.
Only my local newspaper app still causes issue when logging in, but this app isn't working well in real live too..

Quick update. Realised that I was sloppy on the OS version: After the initial update it's 6.3.0.1. A reasonably clean Android 7.something
So far pretty much everything seems to work as wished. I usually install apps from the fire store if available, and then from play if I don't have the choice.
I have now Chrome, hangouts, hangouts meet, both with two accounts (enterprise and personal). Goole Play Music, Canon Camera Remote (Fuji is on the fire store) etc running.
Also my microsoft account works well, no issues with onedrive etc... For Skype I'm using the Kindle version.
One note: don't forget to enable the lock screen if you want to add a google enterprise account. Otherwise it will simply fail to log on, without a direct useful error message!
So I got my new Tablet yesterday, loaded it up today with the exact versions you list above, it lets me log in, but then kicks me out of the play store and asks me to log in again... Hope this isn't anything to do with 2FA or anything, but I can't figure out how to stay logged in and install apps...
Edit: Yeah, it lets me login, accept the terms, then goes right back to Checking info... Which leads to the login page...
Thought I had it with a factory reset, got a few apps installed, but now won't stay logged in again...
Google Play services won't run unless you update Google Play services
Has anyone run into this on the newest version of the Fire HD 8? I go to update Google Play services and it says it is 'installing' forever (well... it hasn't stopped yet at least... I've forced stopped it a few times, and tried again, but nothing) I've tried the most up to date guide on here (October 4th 2018) and this still sits here waiting on installing services... which stuff like Google Play Books needs... I mostly want GPB because I store a lot of books on Google, and this is a great little reading device.

Did you check which versions are now on your tablet?
Did you try to do an update of all apps on the Amazon Store first, and then on the Google play store? Make sure you are not "updating" any apps that are originally from the Amazon store, like Alexa (causing issues).
Can you log into your google account from the silk webbrowser?
Everything works pretty well on my tablet. I only had to download the Amazon Alexa app again from the Amazon store, after the play store had "updated" the original version, which caused it to crash.
Same issue continuous login loop

I can login to Google in Silk.
All versions are the following:
Google Services Framework and Google Account Manager 7.1.2
Google Play services 14.3.66 64bit nodpi (040400-213742215)
Google Play store 11.9.14-all 214884739
I have dual factor authentication on my Google account which requires me saying yes to an authorization prompt on my phone.
That seems to work though because after that I am prompted in the Google Play app with terms of service. When I accept them, it goes back to the login prompt, requiring me to enter my credentials again. This loop didn't end even after five attempts.

If you need something now return it and look elsewhere. Otherwise look for a workaround in the coming weeks. This doesn't feel like a showstopper issue.

Sorry to hear. Looks like something is behaving differently on your Fire.
You could try a complete reset and do it all over again if you are feeling adventurous.. Though I have heard that doing the same thing all over again and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity
I do not 2FA on my google account, so that could have triggered it.
btw.: Did you also have the message about updating google play service after google play store the first time? Apparently my google play services framework still seems to have the same version number... Just looking for things that went differently on your setup.
Returning sounds like a good plan if an android tablet is what you really want.
According to this article, Google apps are not supposed to work on the newest Amazon devices. It also mentions something called "Yalp Store" which might be interesting.
https://android.gadgethacks.com/new...-amazon-no-more-android-apps-fire-os-0183744/
Also: I am not sure if the Launcher Hijack apk v.3 is working on the new Fire 8, but I found a new launcher called "Flick Launcher" which allows you to set a custom action for the home button. Set the home button to open Flick Launcher (open itself), and it will go to home screen. It will require the pro version which is $2.50. I don't have a Fire 8 8th gen to test it on, but it does work on my Fire 7 7th gen, and my Moto E Play. It's very slow getting to the home screen on the Fire 7, which has Lollipop, but it's a lot faster on my phone, which has Oreo, so it might be faster on Nougat. I am not sure if this is a definite solution, but it could be.
