I just upgraded to an HTC One, but am having issues with this one and may need to exchange it. Before I do I wanted to see if the issues were at all common or if there is a fix for any of them.
Issues:
1. The power button is sunk in a bit. Not flush, but below the hole. It is very difficult to push and has been driving me nuts.
2. The front buttons do not light up. I saw them light up once, but most of the time I have to guess where the buttons are. Also very annoying as back, home, and power are used frequently.
3. Over half of my text messages need to be resent multiple times. This did not happen with my previous phone.
4. Smaller issue but the volume rocker is difficult to press. Big difference from the HTC EVO 4G LTE
5. Do I have to force close the power app everytime I restart the phone?
6. How do I recent apps? Holding down home goes to Google Now.
Thank you for any help.

Me too. I am gonna RMA it, this is a QC issue. Two of my other ones are fine, this one is bad.
2. The front buttons do not light up. I saw them light up once, but most of the time I have to guess where the buttons are. Also very annoying as back, home, and power are used frequently.
Does your auto brightness work properly? Many people were reporting problems with the ambient light sensor.
3. Over half of my text messages need to be resent multiple times. This did not happen with my previous phone.
I have no idea what this is. Google voice probs?
4. Smaller issue but the volume rocker is difficult to press. Big difference from the HTC EVO 4G LTE
HTC has sacrificed functionality for aesthetics. You'll get used to it, though.
5. Do I have to force close the power app everytime I restart the phone?
Why would you do this? Does the power saver notification bother you so much?
6. How do I recent apps? Holding down home goes to Google Now.
Double tap home.

Yes, a case makes it much easier because then there is nothing to stop your fingers from pressing the volume buttons. The bezel is the culprit here.
True, but I can't imagine not having a case for such a beautiful phone

1: How flush is it? Mine is flush but I can still press it easily without a case on. With a case on, I have to place my finger a certain way.
2: The buttons are light sensitive. So if you're in the dark, they will light up. If you're out in the sun or in a room with the light on, they won't light up. That's one thing I love about HTC.
3: Umm maybe spotty coverage? Or it could be a defect. Not sure about that one.
4: Volume rocker is fine if you don't have a case on. Just try hitting it near the very top or bottom to make it easier.
5: Are you asking about the power saver notification? If yes then yeah, every time you reboot. Or you can just leave it there. I don't mind it as I am switching the power saver on and off quite often.
6: You double tap the home button.
Hope this helps!

OP, if it is hard at all to press the power button, return it or exchange it. My other Ones are SUPER easy to press. I have to get around to mailing this one in, but I'm not sure if I should because everything else about this phone is pretty much perfect.
And to see if your button lights are working, just cover the ambient light sensor with your finger. The one at the top left. Hold it for about 3 seconds. The lights should turn on. It think it's very smart that they only turn in when there is very little light.
I would have like a nav bar better though.
Okay so I'm exchanging the phone for the power button issue. Sad that the volume rocker issue will continue, but I can handle that one. The power button on mine is an absolute nightmare. I have to jam a fingernail in there to turn it on and half the time it doesn't work. Have to hit it just right.
The capacitive buttons do not light up in the light, dark, whenever. I cannot see the buttons and have to guess. Believe me, no one would love this feature. On my HTC EVO 4G LTE the lights came on. It gets annoying having to guess every time. I want the lights to come on.
My other big problem has nothing to do with google voice. I'll have full reception and not be able to make calls and text messages have to be resent. Seems like the phone is not working with the network correctly.
Yes the power saver notification is unacceptable. It is annoying to have a useless notification in the status bar. I'm not the only one it bothers and it needs to be removed permanently. Also I need Sprint ID to stop changing my custom screens. I would like my phone to work the way I want it to. I wanted an upgrade not a downgrade. When I get one with a working power button rooting should solve this, but if that wasn't an option I'd be shopping for another phone.
Figured out the double tap on home shortly after, but thanks. I still need to figure out how to stop Sprint ID from messing up my home screens. I tried disabling the icon pack for now.

Gone in 4.2, I believe. In the meantime though, you can long-press on the notification, head over to App info, and force stop the relevant app. Kills the thing quite nicely.

Can't really help you here. First thing I did when I got the phone was disable all of the bloatware (built-in Android disable function), although I later killed it off with Titanium Backup. Never had much an issue there though. Tried another launcher, maybe?

First a double negative is the only way this phrase works. Otherwise it's "I imagine having a case." which does not convey the point. Sure could go with "can't imagine leaving the phone unprotected" which is still a double negative without another "not" but that just seems nit-picky.
Also the first thing I do with phones when I get them is put a case on them. After many beautiful phones becoming banged up, scratched, ugly phones you learn that a case keeps them beautiful. The aluminum will scratch easily so putting a case on it is a good idea. There are clear cases so you can still see through. You could just be really careful and paranoid with it though it will probably get scratched anyway. It's up to you, but in no way is it odd or a contradiction to protect the appearance of a beautiful phone with a case.

Just poking, mate. :s
Anyway, OP, I hope you can resolve these issues. The bloatware can easily be removed via root. The Power saver notification is gone in the 4.2 update. (We'll get that soon, hopefully)
The texting thing is bizzare. I really don't know what that was.
Had my S5 since launch day so I'm pretty comfortable with the overall feel and navigation of the device (came from a Note 3, miss the size but I'll get over it)...however, I do have some issues with the phone and if you know any trick to eliminate these issues or if you at least know what causes these issues, please let me know..these issues taint an otherwise great experience compared to my S4 last year.
1. Serious lag when pressing power button, home button, or opening up S-View cover to wake screen...literally takes 4-6 seconds to come on
2. When streaming a video, phone randomly turns screen off, meaning I have to press that power button again, confirm my fingerprint again, and press play...again...
3. Lock screen and S-View weather doesn't update if you don't have the Accuweather widget on your homescreen
4. Is it just me, or is the word recognition of the Samsung keyboard when using swype motions worse than its ever been?
5. recent apps takes about 2 seconds to come up after pressing the button
Other than that, I'm pleasantly surprised at battery life, never had wifi speeds like this before, screen looks great, S-View cover is still the sh*t, my fingerprint scanner works flawlessly, camera is really impressive, navigation has virtually no lag at all, and thank you Samsung for Private Mode...no more garbage Gallery Lock applications...
Sounds like you've got a bad device, I've got no lag at all, including when opening the s-view case. Might want to switch it out for another while you can.

1. Serious lag when pressing power button, home button, or opening up S-View cover to wake screen...literally takes 4-6 seconds to come on
no lag at all here, smooth and fast, pry the first time I've ever used a stock Android device that's this smooth and fast out of the box.
edit: not sure of s-view cover as I don't use it, I use a Khomo Slim on my Tab3 8.0 and it's pretty quick waking up, just checked and it's like a second or so to wake up.
2. When streaming a video, phone randomly turns screen off, meaning I have to press that power button again, confirm my fingerprint again, and press play...again...
no issues here either
3. Lock screen and S-View weather doesn't update if you don't have the Accuweather widget on your homescreen
not sure as I'm using GoLauncher Prime and loose the Sammy widget, trying to find another good one as I have Beautiful Widgets Pro from before but haven't installed after seeing all the complaints about it now on newer devices
4. Is it just me, or is the word recognition of the Samsung keyboard when using swype motions worse than its ever been?
no problem here either, was fine for me on stock keyboard, switched to swiftkey though since I own it
5. recent apps takes about 2 seconds to come up after pressing the button
again no issue here, pretty much instant for me

Ah, the patented power button and home button lag. I remember them well from my Note 3. Samsung fanboys will try to tell you that it doesn't happen, but they are in denial. The Note 3 was the fastest Samsung device I have owned and it still did it. And the power button lag drove me mad.
Only issue i seemed to be having is that the display doesn't seem to be flush so I'm collecting dust on the top already.

Every time there's some kind of reported lag/delay for a device, there are always a handful of people with the device (thus invested in it and in need of validation for their purchase) who insist that the lag doesn't exist, even when every single review and blog site confirms it.
I wouldn't say that the multitasking lag is 2 seconds, but it's definitely there. It was mentioned in a few professional reviews and I confirmed it myself on a display unit. It's not a horrendous delay, but it's definitely not as instantaneous as it is on other phones. It may be that it's waiting to confirm that the button isn't being held for the secondary function (menu), which is the perils of using one button for multiple functions.
On my Note 3, sometimes the power button would work as expected and other times, you'd push it and it would be a full 2-3 seconds before the device would turn on/off. Even after I disabled every single service I didn't need/want, it persisted. I would love to think that Samsung eliminated all of these little delays, but the reality is that they need to rewrite Touchwiz from the ground up and optimize it.

Fanboy my a$$, also have an iPhone 5 and 5S. I have no lag with multi or home, maybe a split fraction of a second just like my iPhone (just as responsive as them) , guess I'll have to get a vid to prove it
If the split second is considered lag, then our iPhone 4S/5/5S are laggy too
I'm not saying the phone is garbage, just that it'd be nice for this phone to be close to the M8 in terms of reaction...anyone who has messed with an M8 will tell u that the moment you press something it comes up, zero lag, zero waiting for extra input.
However, I'll sacrifice that for imo a better overall phone.

Works good for me. I so far haven't felt the need to go back to swiftkey which has been my go-to for nearly 2 years
5. recent apps takes about 2 seconds to come up after pressing the button
Takes about the same amount of time it takes the screen to power up from hitting the power button. 1/2 second or so.
I think I'd be visiting a store ASAP if your phone is having these lag issues. Have read a few reports about this but I haven't really seen it on my device so far.
Has anyone experienced app crashes lately? My phone has been working great for days now, then today it seems like every app in open crashes and stops responding. It will lock up my phone and won't stop until reset.

I have a quick gripe, I could be missing something though.
There is no real indication that I see if I am on wifi or not.
It still says 4g and the status bar doesn't seem to change unless I am missing something.

Oh then something is wrong with my phone or there is a setting that needs to be adjusted,
I do not see the wifi symbol anywhere
Turning wifi on and connecting it is the only thing you should have to do.

The only lag i experience is through Samsung apps and multitasking button. I'm guessing it's because it is waiting for a hold. Just like if you disable s voice on home key your back to home response time is much faster.

I find the ability to pin a screen off memo to the AOD very useful, cause I get quite busy at work and tend to forget to follow up with things, and this kind of forces me to see it. However, screen off memo seems a little finicky in terms of how long it stays up for, making sure my screen is actually locked when I pull out the pen, etc. Sometimes if I have the phone already on and I want to pin a note, I have to lock it, put the pen in, then pull the pen back out just to get screen off memo to activate.
Is there a way to just pin any note I make in samsung notes to the AOD? This would be a lot more usable in many situations.
I also am looking for a solution to this. My scenario is very similar to yours.
The closest option I could find was pinning a note to the home screen.
I am hoping this is just a minor oversight by Samsung and the function may be added in something like "SmartLock"

Activate screen off memo by locking screen while spen is out and double tapping it by spen button pressed.
Always worked for me. No need to reinsert spen.
Neat feature to add multiple screen off memos too.

So to say guys, when the screen is off and you cover the top of the phone while waking it (double tap or power button), the phone stays "protected" by avoiding wake up or unlock ?
My Exynos S10 doesn't care about it and wakes up normally regardless of the top being covered or not ...

Strange thing is happening recent to me...
Namely, while using headphones while talking on the phone, the unit gets unlocked while in pocket and problems arise with spontaneous keys getting activated.
If even cannot be explicitly locked by pressing the power button.
Have not found a solution to this problem, and it's strange why the proximity sensor does not work in pocket.
Cannot remember whether this was previously, or is it since last ROM upgrade.

Yep I have the same thing... Today my pocket took 9599295 pictures and movies.. also when I'm a bit sweat my pocket dial random numbers. I've noticed that when screen is touched and disnt recognize fingerprint then whole lockscreen shows up and its easy way to random open dial or camera... Its rly anoying, because I dont want to hide phone screen outside of the skin. (Its easier to break screen if I hit something with my leg.)
Dunno why it doesnt use proximity sensor to recognize that phone is in the pocket like every other brand... :/
Do you have the double tap to wake up activated?

Tried everything but the problem is eventually still there. Actually I've found a bug, namely the display will wake up once touched several times near the center of the fingerprint reader. Try it yourself.
Not nice - cannot avoid to happen it sometimes even if all options are disabled.

I didn't have this problem. If I try now and touch the part with the scanner, doesn’t have to be just the centre of the scanner, rapidly around ten times the lock screen will turn on, but nothing happens when I touch the shortcuts. Perhaps they are disabled, so the only thing that happens if the scanner is touched again is that the numpad to unlock with pin appears.
This is not good as it may severely affect battery life if it happens a lot. This clearly must be a bug!

My only solution was to buy a flip case. At first, I disabled the fingerprint reader by removing all fingerprints and setting up face recognition, but this didn’t fix the problem you are talking about. I don’t really like flip cases, but the Nillkin QIN Smartcase is rather good.
So now I ‘m eagerly awaiting a fix from Xiaomi so I can strip the Mi9 again!

Disabling the fingerprint icon has no effect on the problem we are talking about here. The only way to make the problem go away is to remove all the stored fingerprints thus disabling the use of fingerprints all together. This will shut off the fingerprint sensor doing away with this problem in a crude way.

Disabling the fingerprint icon has no effect on the problem we are talking about here. The only way to make the problem go away is to remove all the stored fingerprints thus disabling the use of fingerprints all together. This will shut off the fingerprint sensor doing away with this problem in a crude way.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I don't have the problem and just wanted to know where I can disable the fingerprint icon. Thanks again.
