Problem is that it can not boot from sd card.
I followed EMCC CM11 instruction and UNOFFICIAL CM12.1 instruction.
Both cover different scenario such as using image burner (Latest Win32DiskImager on Win10) and just set partition to active (using Mini Tool Partition Wizard Free). Using 8GB card should be no issue, but the image burning step actually use a partition that is less than 4GB. Which should rule problem related to large size SD card.
I have also read about newer HD+ having sdcard booting problem. Recommendation is to try a lot of time. Which I did more than 10 times of reinserting sd card and press the on button. No luck there.
So I am here to ask if there is something new to this newer (middle of 2014) Nook HD? Anyone have similar experience with Nook HD? I was under impression that Nook HD have no issue with booting from SD Card. Only HD+ have this problem.
Also under impression that Nook HD is no longger manufactured. So is it possible that this new 2014 batch come with somekind of sd card boot protection by B&N? Since nerwer HD+ also seem to have this.
TIA!

Was the SD boot partition type set to 0x0C FAT32 LBA?

You are right! By default it is not 0x0C. Indeed there is additional step required that is missing from original instruction (or at least from the PDF that I download)
So I did that additional step as per this image
same url as my last image plus Type0xc-lba-uUurkMtc.jpg
Try booting again more than 10 times. I.e. shutdown the tablet. Insert sdcard and press power button few times. Fail, take out sdcard, insert it back and try again.
Not successful, no boot logo.
All previous step to prepare the Sd Card was done using Windows 10. After this, I boot into Linux and use gparted to check the sdcard partition flag. I see that boot flag is enabled but lba flag is not. I dont really think this is important. But I enable it anyway and apply it to the sdcard partition.
As per this image.
same url as my last image plus nookhd-gparted-flag-keauk5Fh.png
Try again another 10 times. Again not successful.
All this and previous try, I seriously think that something did boot or at least try to boot. Because after attempting (and fail) to boot using the sd card. I will need to long press power button about 10 second after that depress and press again about 2 to 3 second to start the nook HD tablet. I have verified this by pressing less than 10 second many time, which will not boot the tablet.
I have another nook (dead battery at the moment) that have this same behavior when running Android JB. After shutting down, I will need to do long press one time and then press few seconds to boot it again.
Appreciate the tip. I need more suggestion! In few days, will buy another SD card that is different brand with 4 GB size and give that a try too!
TIA

Thanks for tagging me. I almost forgot about this thread. I succesfully boot and installed using a 4 GB sd. Same brand. And this might be the same sd I used few ywars back to install my first nook. I thought I loss it, turns out I left it in a printer.
So is possible that this is SD Card specific problem. Or perhaps the smaller size (4GB vs 8GB) is the solution.
Thanks again!

ok so these forums have help me sooo much from rooting my g1 for the first time and upgrading my g1 to the max. But I've comed to a problem on partitioning my g1.
I am currently using cyanogenmod and I use amon ra's recovery 1.5.0 which I have found really easy to use.
So basically I'm trying to get a linux swap of 96mb and I belive a 512mb ext partition but when I do this on amon ra I chect on cosole by first typing su and then free to check my memory and my swap partition says 0? And I'm trying to see what I'm doing wrong?
What I basically do is I:
wipe
Format my sd via computer with swiss knife or bassic format tool
Plug in my card
Wipe again
Wipe ext partion
And then I do the ext/linux/fat32 partition thing
And then I do my flashing.
Am I doing something wrong? Or maybe taking too many steps? Lol
But if anybody could tell me what to do it would be good.
And again I don't mind starting out fresh.
I am going to assume your new...
And I am a bit of a smart a$$ so deal with it. It's also late and I'm hungry, so I'm a triple threat.
1. Welcome to the forums.
2. keep up to date on the programs...RA1.5.0 had a bug in it. It was replaced with RA1.5.1 in less than 8 hours.
Check for daily updates on everything you use.
3. Don't do it by hand...Amon RA 1.5.1 does all this for you. (has since like 1.3.9 I think)
Even walks you through it step be step.
Its under the heading PARTITION SDCARD (Can't miss it on the main screen. It's there on 1.5 too)
Know your Sdcard specs b4 proceeding.
It even upgrades your partitions...don't bother with apps2sd if your not on a class 4 or 6 card.
And yes you do want ext 4 if you have a class 4 or 6 card.
No I won't tell you how to tell the difference. Google will.
4. Not to sound like an a$$...oh wait I already put in that disclaimer...
Seriously are you learning about what your doing or are you following along blindly?
Just following along results in posts like "OMG I just F*ing Bricked my Phone trying that lame a$$ write up. How do I fix my phone!?!?"
Read up on the programs before you use them, and ask questions about how to do something before trying. Please.
Have a nice... ah who am I kidding...see ya!
Ok..
1. Thanks for the welcome
2. You didn't help much but still thanks.
3. I'm not that of a complete dumba$$ and I do try to stay up with the updates and stuff but I go to school full time and I work right after but thanks for the advise...
4. But what I was looking for was how to start out fresh with cyanogen and a partition on my phone because when I try it it doesn't show on console but the size on my sd does decrese.
But again thanks.

Do you have a userinit.sh setup to activate the swap on boot? Otherwise, you can try entering "swapon" in a terminal window and then "free" to see if you now have swap being utilized. Just having the partition does not enable swapping.
If you want to try to re-partition it one last time, I wrote a very simple excel program that walks you through the partitioning. I boot into recovery, and go to console. From there, just type the text exactly as written. There are 2 variables that you will type in, the swap and the actual size of the card. By typing those in, it will update the spreadsheet with the correct values to input. I have formatted quite a few this way and never had a problem that wasn't due to a bad SD card.
Anyway, this is what it looks like:

and the download link:

I guess in my cranky state you missed my point.
There is no reason to do any of the partitioning on another computer, or by hand. Amon Ra's recovery image does that operation with a little interaction from you.
Basically it does what speed.racer's script does, and it's already on your phone.
As for not seeing the partition information...
A fresh partition has nothing on it, so you will get a 0 when looking to see how much data it is storing.
Look again after you have booted up to the home screen.
Does that help?
Well its been like about 2 hours since i did the repartition and im sure that it would of have had taken up mem by now but it says 0 0 0 and
When i do the swap on thin it says to set swap priority?
So I am trying to root a G1 which has 1.6 on it. I applied the RC29 NBH File to the SD card after reformatting in FAT32. Held the camera and power button and went to apply the reimage. I keep coming up with failure. Here is a photo:

I have tried the following and have to luck.
-Redownload the .nbh file from multiple sources
-Download the RC30 and tried to apply that instead
-purchased a new SD card and card reader
-Renamed the file DREAIMG.nbh and DreaIMG.nbh
-Checked the extension .nbh making sure it wasn't there twice
-I have tried multiple time hoping it would just work also
I now have a phone that will only pull up to the tri-color screen and if i choose, it will try to load the nbh file again, but i get a fail every time. I can not get any farther into the phone than the bootloader screen.
All these things and still no luck. I have my MT3G root so I'm not new at this.

Ah i see your issue. WHEN DOWNLOADING DONT COPY IT TO YOUR SD CARD.
Download it to your desktop first. Then move it to your sd. Name it DREAIMG.nbh then give it a try
The issue is it becomes corrupt when you download it directly to your sd

Also another thing you might try. Back up the contents of your SD card, reformat it, then put the DREAIMG.nbh on the card by itself. For some reason, sometimes it doesn't play well with other files because it has to be indexed first on the card.
Good luck!
So I am not a noob to flashing or to android, but I am fairly new to this damned Galaxy Tab... A friends daughter had a small issue with her tab so she called verizon who had her do a bunch of things to it now it totally wont boot. it givs the "Samsung" screen, then the verizon splash screen but wont go any further. I can get it into download mode and i can get it into recovery, but Im seeing a lot of errors in recovery. I am attaching a pic of that...
I have spent the last two days searching all over for a way to get this darn thing running, eveywhere I read :If you can get to the download screen or into recovery it is easy to recover." Well Im guessing its not always so damn easy....
I have a TAR file that is the stock VZW files and I tried that via heimdall, no go... tried multiple ways, nothing. i had it at one time so the video wouldnt work, I could hear the bootup sounds, but couldnt see anything on the tab... could someone please help me out with this thing?
device is a Verizon branded SCHI800BKV
Here is my recovery screenshot...

do a wipe data/factory reset in stock recovery, after it ur device will fully bootup
I wish it was that easy.... here is what I get when i try that..
If you notice the empty line in the middle of the red text, the next line states, "Your storage is not prepared yet, use UI menu for format and reboot menus.
I have let it run at the verizon splash screen overnight just incase it was rebuilding Dalvik, but no go.... and of course all verizon tells me is "As old as this is, you would be better off buying the newer version. Should i ring one up for you?"
It seems to me, like the onboard memory is fragged, and not holding the data when I flash via either Odin or Heimdall...
Internal storage is broken.
crap. thats what I thought.... been reading the threads about using a SD card to run and have NO freaking clue how to do that stuff. good thing this isnt my device.
It has just become simpler! CM10 nightlies can be installed without modifications on an external storage card by creating an empty file activate_data_on_sdcard (the name is important) in the root of the card.

OK, i just grabbed the latest nightly and the Gapps, but as this tab is NOT rooted, nor does it have ClockworkMod recovery installed, how do i flash it? Just put a file with that name on the SD card along with the zip file for CM10? do i still have to partition the SD card? Damn I feel like a noob...:cyclops:
Well, we don't install CWM on the Tab, we install a kernel that has a recovery that can install unsigned zips from storage. The Overcome kernel is known to work. I believe there's a thread in General with links to the Overcome files.
Partition the card: 1 = /SDCARD, Primary FAT32, most of the capacity of the card (say 25 GB on a 32 GB card, or maybe 13 GB on a 16 GB card), 2 = /DATA, Primary Ext4, 2 or 4 GB, 3 = /CACHE, Primary Ext4, rest of the card.
Download the CM10 nightly and JB gapps and put them on the external card.
Create a file named activate_data_on_sdcard on the card.
Put the Tab into Download mode and flash the Overcome kernel as PDA with Odin. The Tab will not boot normally anymore after you've done this. Power off the Tab.
Boot it into recovery by powering it up while holding down Power on and Volume-up until you see the text Galaxy Tab. It should start the recovery.
Wipe data, cache, and Dalvik cache.
Go to the Install menu and select the option to install from storage. Select the nightly and flash it.
It may start to flash and then reboot into recovery. This should now be the CM10 recovery. Flash the nightly again.
Flash gapps for JB.
If all had gone well the Tab will boot and run from the external card.
Hm, I must have been doing this stuff too long now, because I find this whole process quite logical...
Thanks for verygreens detailed instructions ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2032364 ), a sacrificial EEE PC that had Ubuntu thrown on it to copy files to the correct SD partition, three different microSD cards ( Patriot 8GB class 4? No. Kingston 4GB class 4? No. Run to the store and buy a Sandisk 32gb Class 4? Yes!) ... I'm running and enjoying it.
Questions:
1. Is there a way to take a screen shot? Which leads me to question 2 (I wanted a screen cap the highlight what I'm seeing)...
2. At the home screen in portrait mode, the top 15% and bottom 15% of the screen seem unused. In landscape, the screen seems to be all used. Is this common?
3. I've installed "cm-10-20121231-UNOFFICIAL-ovation.zip"; of course there's bound to be updates. My concern is by repeating the install procedure, I will wipe the device clean and have to start-over with the "Here's my Gmail account, here's me going to the App Store and re-installing my 15 programs" etc.
I believe I read there's a way to book into CWM instead of directly into CM10; that would allow me to insert any updated zip and "install zip from sd card" -- I just don't want to lose all my settings.

1. Yes, you can take screenshots. Go to settings/system/power menu and put a check mark in screenshots. The you can hold the power button and the screenshot choice is there.
2. That must be the stock launcher doing that. I use AdwEx and it does not do that. Try a third party launcher.
3. You can do what is called a dirty flash where you flash the update directly over the top of the old one. All apps and settings remain. Just download your new zip with the HD+ to your sdcard media partition and boot to recovery with the power menu. Choose the zip and flash it with no wiping and everything remains.

Leap,
Thanks... I got the screen shot working - this is the stock launcher; on top, from the bottom of the Google-Voice widget to the top of the weather widget is dead space.
And on the bottom, from the bottom row of icons to the menu bar, it's dead space. I bought the Nova Launcher app when it was $0.25 and use that for booting without CM10; maybe I'll ply it on top of CM10.

What I want to do is partition the data partition. I have a 32gb nook and 1/2 of the space is at the data partition.
Thanks

I really don't understand this request. What do you mean go into the bootloader?
And why do you want to repartition? What is wrong with the data partition that you want to change it? What are you going to change it too? It is already optimal.

Something is clearly wrong with this partition. Base on the screen shot below, I assume the my /data partition is same as the internal partition. My problem is that my nook 32gb and the partitions only added up to 16. What happen to the other 16gb?

You are right. It is a 16gb version. The box said 32gb, but the part # is a 16gb version.
How do I restore this back to stock? The stock card I used to do the backup is corrupted. And I also made the stupid mistake formatting the data & media partition.

Go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature and make a new CWM card. Then flash one of the plain stock ROMs from item 6. That should restore everything including recovery.

As far as I know its not possible to boot into CWM rocovery or TWRP directly from emmc. I use leapinlar's CWM sd card and that works fine, but I do miss the convenience of updating ROMs directly from internal flash like I did with the Touchpad.

You can get there by holding the power and n button during a normal boot. Hold both for about 5 seconds and release the power button before it turns it off, followed by releasing the n key. It will boot into CWM or TWRP.
