Wife slightly bent her s6 wt*! Thinking of a reverse fix? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S6

So I knew this could happen and it's pure neglect from back pocket use at some point .
We both have s6 phones went to put two new glass screen protectors on them ... couldn't figure why hers wouldn't lay on flush like they all do until I seen right side has a every so slight bend starting at the power button side bending toward the top Its very minor .
I've concluded that it's not terrible and a zag screen protector would fix the whole needing a screen protector issue but I'm still pissed about it .
Was wondering if anyone has managed to straighten there's back out even if it takes a while I flipped it face down and put pressure on it and it does go flat maybe a total of 1/8th inch bend I'f I could guestimate .. but it pops right back to the slight bend and it's really slight only enough to not seat a glass screen protector at the edges.
The phone has had an Incipio Octane case with raised edges . Any ideas maybe setting something little heavy across the front width wise across phone overnight ?

Is it visible to the eye? Or is it like them iphones that u have to stare at it to see the bend?

it's past any point of returning them and whatnot. . I'm just asking about any known methods to re straighten them out .
I think laying a heavy object across it of course over the raised edges of the case over night or many nights may help .
Theory would say if pressure bent it one way reverse pressure should slightly mold it back ..Even though it's very minimal

Back Glass Cracked around speaker

I went out tonight to a movie. I put my phone in my pocket when I left the house, took it out once to put it on vibrate at the start of the movie then took it out of my pocket again when I got home. The phone was the only thing in that pocket, so it's not like it was up against my keys or anything.
The phone was intact when I put it on vibrate so while it was in my pocket at some point during the movie or the ride home is when it got cracked.
It seems that the part of the glass that's cut out for the loud speaker got pushed in enough that the glass around it gave way and shattered. I don't remember bumping it on anything or it being jostled in any way, just a typical movie and drive home...
I have insurance on it through Tmobile but I may try and call LG directly first to see if they will do anything considering I didn't drop it or really abuse it in any way that I can think of...
So let this be a warning to you if you have one, be careful about that part of the phone. Maybe be careful to put it facing screen-side-out in your pocket so the back speaker cut out can't be bumped...
The glass around the speaker grill is entirely shattered with cracks spider webbing from it to all 4 corners of the screen. The cracks going to the top are hard to see in the pictures, but their there.
Anyone have any comments or suggestions about contacting LG, or anything else about it?

That does not seem like Gorilla Glass anymore. Don't think I've ever heard of a phone just magically breaking without any kind of impact.
How the hell did that happen in a pocket? Hmm
I don't think that the backside of the phone is made from gorilla glass, only the screen. But you still should contact LG, because no way it should blow up like that.
Hope that they change it for you

I wish I had a good answer
I was babying this phone as much as possible, it was the only thing in that pocket and I made sure not to use it when over cement or anything in case it did fall.
But this happened while it was INSIDE my pocket, I even had to empty some of the glass shards out of my pocket when I noticed what had happened...

Most of the reviews state that both the front and the back of the phone are Gorilla Glass.

OK am just not buying the km magic scratches happening on their own or a big crack happening without it being CX caused. These things do not happen on their own..

Haha, no skinny jeans, and it was in my front left pocket.
There was no stress at all that I can think of. When I took it out of my pocket at home to text someone the back felt rough and I thought something was on it, but when i turned it around to look I saw it all cracked. I was 100% surprised to see that considering how I had babied it all night and I didn't even use it the entire night.
There was no case because none are sold yet. When I bought it the store said they would be getting the cases (bumpers I guess) in stock next week, I was going to call them Monday to see if they had any yet, and I still will but I don't expect them to get any until mid week.

Front pocket, and no sitting on my side, just in a movie theater seat then my car seat.
I wish I could just "not buy" it too, but it happened....
Like I said in my first post, it looks like a typical crack you would get from tempered glass when the stress point is hit, and it looks like around that speaker cut out is a stress point. The thing is, it wasn't hit, bumped, dropped, or anything else like that.
If you were the insurance company or LG I would understand not trusting me, but why do I have to gain by not telling the truth here?
Chances are you can just exchange it under warranty, not insurance.

I told everyone in my other post that the glass is BS because it got scratched by itself, just being in the pocket and on the table... But almost everyone laughed at my warning...

LCD cracked under glass in my pocket.

So I pulled out my phone at work, turned it on and 3/4 of my screen was black, there was a tiny crack on the very edge under the glass. I have a hard case and screen protector. Took it to Sprint and asked how it was possible, they said pressure cracks with these are common, but since it is physically damaged I'd have to pay $150 thru Asurion, fantastic. So be very very careful with these because apparently ANY small amount of pressure on these will crack the LCD, even with no other physical damage to the phone.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda premium
Damn....sorry to hear that man....
If this is true that its common then make sure you find a complaint and talk to the highest supervisor at sprint to get this reversed if its later found to be a known defect. Worked in the past.

I really hate to see this post in the Sprint section. Was hoping that maybe this issue was a problem with the manufacturing line that is producing the GSM varients. This does seem to be a fairly widespread problem for the S4 and it indeed has to be a defect. There is no way that this should be happening on such a wide scale just by having the phone in a pocket....even if it is skin tight. The international S4 thread as well as the AT&T and T-Mobile threads are littered with this same issue as the OP here stated .It really makes me nervous and I hate having to be extra careful with this phone.

Yeah, it has to be a manufacturing defect. I asked 3 different corporate stores how the hell the lcd under the glass cracks without any other damage to the phone, or without dropping, hitting it, etc. They said they don't know, of course. After I ordered my replacement, I tried barely flexing the phone without my case as is if it might in your pocket, and sure enough it cracked underneath in 3 more places
I'm going to call Samsung on Monday, and very nicely request my money back for my insurance deductible due to it being an obvious widespread defect. I shouldn't have to pay $150 for a refurb when it's a little over a month old with absolutely no abuse

It's sickening because you pay so much, and expect there to be at least SOME quality

What brand/model case do you have? Now, I'm spooked. I've never cracked a screen. I've had Windows PC phones: the 6600, Mogul, original Touch, Touch Pro, Touch Pro 2, and Treo 700wx. Then Android phones: Hero, OG Evo, and Evo 3D. I've always had them in cases. The Windows phones had pouch cases. The Treo had a silicone case. The Evos both had the Best Buy Platinum cases which are Seidios. Most of them I used without screen protectors. Never a broken or cracked screen.
My S4 has a Casemate case on it. It's a 2 layer case: silicone with polycarbonate shell. I also have a 3M anti-glare screen protector on it. I wonder if this is enough? I often put my S4 in my jeans pocket, though sometimes I put it case and all into a sort of pouch in my purse if I don't have a pocket in my slacks or skirt.
Those of you that have had S IIIs and Note IIs, were there any defects with those screens? Thanks.
I've never had a phone do this and I've had pretty much every generation of touch screen device starting from the mogul, and I've NEVER had this happen. Sure I've shattered the glass on a few, but that was from severe drops. I have a clear plastic/rubber case and HD screen protector. The only activity I was doing was squatting up and down cutting appliance boxes open. I didn't hit against anything. The AMOLED should not break beneath the glass, even if the phone were to be flexed from being in your pocket.

I'm glad I ran across this thread good info
I love the 90s good times
I honestly don't think the screens are breaking from just sitting nicely in pockets and purses. Over flexing in pockets makes sense. Its a big long wide thin phone. But its not just breaking for no reason. Just not buying it sorry.
This was discussed before about edge to edge displays on big phones. Maybe some sort of cushions can be used to reduce this effect if its is truly the cause.
A corporate repair store is suppose to replace the screen. In my experience I've seen some corp repair stores are just bad and say no we can't but then I've called sprint and gotten supervisors on the phone and handed the phone to a store manager and all of a sudden the story changes and its then repaired.
Side note... I do not see a fisheye effect on my screen or girlfriends Verizon phone. Maybe the ones that do have a issue and are prone to breaking easier? Idk.
Sent from my SGS4. Go Blue!! Buck the Fuc keyes!!
I've owned 8+ large screen touch phones, that have been dropped, bumped, flexed, etc WITHOUT a case that haven't broken. Now this one in a case, never dropped, never hit, or bumped, suddenly the lcd cracks under the glass? Yeah, call me crazy, but that shouldn't happen. Especially on a flagship $650 device.
And to further explain the damage the crack was vertical about a half inch, right along the power button under the white frame. There is no physical damage, no dings, scratches, NOTHING to the phone.

Screen Assurance

Hi all. I've had my droid turbo for about a month and just before my case arrived for the poor thing it fell out of my pocket. The screen is perfectly fine and so is most of the phone except one of my corners is pretty gnarled up. Nothing affecting it structurally it is just a dent. I wanted to see if anybody had experience with the extremely vague Screen Assurance Program as it says that "Any damage that also includes a cracked housing, missing glass fragments or other significant structural damage" will make it so you could not get your screen replaced. Since it is only a small dent and none of the previously mentioned should I be fine if i need a replacement screen in the future?

Screen cracked question

Yesterday the top corner of my phone cracked right next to the circle to the right of the Samsung logo when it fell off my desk. It is not a spider web crack and doesn't affect the actual screen in any way. Is there a resin I would be able to use to patch it safely?

i would just get a glass screen protector
But that wouldn't make the crack go away. Is there a way to do that without replacing the front glass?

What you need is CRACK BE GONE......... LOL
But really you should stop smoking as that doesn't exist. Only way to fix a broken glass is to replace it and that goes for anything...... automotive windshields also. Which is where I think you got the idea of resin from. Resin is supposed to stop or slow it from continuing to spider and getting worse but it does't work on a crack only a chip and it still doesn't get rid of it then either. Nothing removes broken or chipped glass damage.
I guess I just had no idea how automotive resin worked. I'll just have to deal with it and get it replaced if it causes an issue. It's ridiculous that this even happened falling from my desk on to carpet at work.
Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk
Its possible i guess if u get a winshied repair kit and if its far enough away from the edge but those kits use a suction cup thing to force it in the crack. So if it is near the edge i doubt u will be able to get the resin forced into the crack.
I had a deep scratch and tried some windshield repair resin to try and fill in and it didnt really do anything.

Luck of the draw (or lack of) really. I have had some nasty drops with my note 4 and few minor ones with the note 5. I haven't used a screen protector for the last 3 or 4 phones and 4 years or so. My cases keep getting smaller with this years note 5 being the flimsiest clear spigen that I have ever had. I'm sure my luck will run out but even with my drops it is still ok. All it takes is that one at the wrong angle tho.

Again resin is made not for cracks but more for knicks, rock chips and the like at are small, round and contained. The resin fills the chip and trys to hold it from spidering and cracking all the way across as the windshield flexes. First as you have noticed this is really not a fix, and doesn't work more then 50% of the time. May make it take longer to crack that's a bit unclear.
Even tho this doesn't work very well on a windshield there is even more reasons why this really wont work on a phone. The type of glass, thinness of the glass and being a crack not a chip are all reasons this would never work on the phone (but please post pics if you do. LOL) The vacuum and not sitting in corners is also another good reason, but the resin isn't as thin or runny as you may think and would make way more of a mess on your screen then it would even cover. I'm asumming this is not in an area you touch or I would say I would also think the digitizer might have problems also.

We have had safelite come in and repair windshields on work trucks. I am not saying it would definately work on a phone though

I see Satellites website does advertise they do cracks up to 6" so I stand corrected on that. Thanks

I'm a maintenance manager for transit buses. I have a whole fleet of city buses here in the Los Angeles area. I'm very good friends with my local glass guy that comes out and does repairs weekly. We not only see chips, knicks, cracks, but graffiti and other intentional vandalization. We have strict rules from California Highway Patrol here that we need to repair certain size damage that obscures the view of the drivers.
With the cost of a big bus windshield we have tried them all. They even have buffers that sand and polish the top layer of glass to remove surface damage, but during a demo (to sale us a unit) he cracked the window while trying to remove graffiti as the glass got to hot.
Injecting resin into the chip does not make it go away. I can still tell where it was repaired (depending on the quality it looks less noticeable or obvious) and if I pound my fist on the glass I bet you can tell where it will crack from. It's only a temporary solution to help try and prevent it cracking any further under light or no stress (not me pounding on it).
Ya like u say its just a cover up but if its done right with quality materials it can be almost invisible.

Cracks

I thought I had a very fine barely noticeable scratch both on the front and back glass. There is nothing in my pocket or where I place my phone usually that would scratch it(plus isn't it gorilla glass 5?).
Anyway, now I look at the back and that very fine scratch has expanded... GREAT, it's not a scratch but a crack. The front is staying put but the back crack is spreading and now split off to form another one. It is very tiny and you have to angle the phone to see it.
This phone has never been dropped. I don't put it in my back pocket. Nothing has ever been placed or dropped on top of it. WTF?
Anyone else have this problem. I doubt this is covered under warranty. I am so pissed. My last couple phones have been disasters. I need to stop buying phones right after they come out... (all though that might not help as the nexus 6p I had didn't have problems for a year. argh! why do phones suck these days)
It sounds like a manufacturer defect. And that's difficult because you have to prove that. Perhaps you can just go into wherever you got it or to a carrier store and talk to them and explain. They might be cool with replacing it.
I've read a lot of posts around talking about how this phone scratches easily. It's actually got me considering putting on a screen protector and I've never done that before.
Could the crack possibly be due to heat causing the expansion of the glass? I'm thinking perhaps the gap everyone talks about on the note 3 note 4 etc models is for that reason. To allow the glass some space when it gets hot.
Just my thoughts.

I have the light leak along the sides, but it is not caused by a gap in the glass. It's the black along the edges of the screen not being all the way to the very bottom.

I have yet to join an XDA forum regarding all the mobiles I have owned in recent years and not found one of these threads.
Some peers actually claim to have had their screen crack overnight while on the bed side table? And so it goes on. Its a mystery?
I have seen an 18" dia ships porthole 1.5" thick get dropped and not break yet overnight while standing in a wooden jig they have broken! Glass is an inherently odd material and I have no idea what you are going to do to resolve this situation? This phenomena can happen but its generally owners who, either known or unkown, break the glass.
Where is the crack? Can you possibly post a photo? This would be invaluable to asses what may have accurd.
This could be difficult for you to resolve. Have you insured it?

I noticed I have a crack on the back as well. Been in a case since I got it and no drops, but still a crack. Don't know how it got there, but at least I can't see it

I was on the Verizon support site tonight. There are a small number of people there who are complaining about this exact thing.
