Spoofing MAC address can lead to exactly these problems. Since the wifi driver used is closed source, you don't know what is causing the issue, can be the driver itself or it could be your ap/router to run MAC verify in the background (very unlikely).
What did you use to change the MAC in first place?

time to connect to wifi?

how much time does your kaiser takes to connects to the wifi?? mine takes a hell lot of time sometimes 5 mins even.....i can see in my router logs these 3 points only :
1) Wireless PC connected
2) authenticating.....
3) authentication success
but there is no dhcp lease ip for a long time. I upgraded my router firmware as well....it doesnt take so much time for my laptops (3 of them) what am i missing? any special config i have to do ? or is it possible to se the debug logs for my kaiser so i can try to find out the root cause?
My kaiser takes about 10-15 seconds with my Linksys WRT54G using WPA-TKIP. I'm running the stock HTC ROM and have nothing special setup.
4 seconds
no WEP
mac address filter: only allow selected mac addresses
After really looking at this, like the below user says, it takes less than 5 seconds with WPA-TKIP and MAC filtering. 5 minutes is excessively long, but unfortuntaly it seems that you've done everything I can think of. Hope you can find a fix!
Do you have the WiFiRouter installed? It may be falsely trying to connect to itself.
yes i have the dlink Dl 524.....it works fine with other laptops and even my kaiser gets connected to it...but it take a hell lot of time.....

I think Nick meant, do you have WMWiFirouter installed on your kaiser (the app by Chainfire) as the kaiser may be trying to connect to itself.
One other thing, is your SSID on the router 'Hidden'? If you have not selected the box for hidden network on Wireless connection (when you set it up on the kaiser) it can bit 'Hit n Miss' to get a connection.
just config the router to do mac filtering. Theres practically no authenticating step, it just goes like this:
1)This device is trying to connect, does it match the mac addresses owner provided?
if no -> user cannot connect
if yes-> user connects
// this is assuming you click the option "allow selected devices..."
only bad thing about mac filtering is that if you have a new device that making a new mac key for it is a nuisance.
otherwise, you can forget all those security keys!
*btw* if router signal is roughly below 20% it may take a while to connect, you may want to use 3rd party wifi managers like wififofum.
nothing works...i gets the same problem ...it takes a hell lot of time to connect.....is there any 3rd party software which can help me connecting to the network. I have noticed that it gives me the wrong signal strength as well.....sitting just next to the router it gives shows 60-70% signal strength. i dont have wifirouter app installed. I have tried the mac filtering as well but didnt help. my network is broadcasting the ssid and is not hidden.....and i am hating this. my friend wanted my kaiser to connect to his network so he could browse but it never got connected and i felt ashamed of this ~500 pound phone ......
did you try changing the power mode to best performance?
Mine takes 7 seconds to connect every single time. Thomson speedtouch from be broadband.Wep encryption.

It should probably be noted that this isn't a very secure method. But if you're not worried about your traffic being sniffed or someone cloning your MAC and getting on your network. Go for it!

i have tried this as well. sometimes it works. and i have set it to best performance. still no good
It takes 4 seconds for me (with a Linksys AP/Router) with WPA TKIP authentification.
Have you tried different wifi channel ? Have you try "Wififofum" to have some info about you're AP ?
my router is running with channel 11 ....how can i put it in my kaiser? what channel is yours running on?
That is extremely unsecure and not a good idea. A MAC spoof is such a simple thing so others can get right on your network...never mind the fact that all of your data is flying around in plain text.
Some one with a laptop/mac spoof and ettercap will wreck your stuff bad.

but atleast it should work...
If only we could all think like that
I use WRT54G running DD-WRT (custom linux firmware wich is a bit more stable than the original linksys fw) with WPA2-PERSONAL (AES) and it takes about 4 sec to connect. I live on 4th floor and the router is on 3rd floor.

[Q] Cannot connect to any wifi network

Regards to all members of xda forum
as the title says, I have a problem with connecting to any wifi network, already spent two days searching different forums, I've tried various CUSTOM ROM (zeus, miui, stock 2.2.2), but without success, currently using ParanoidAndroid V2.52...
i see all wifi network, when it connects just stuck on connecting, then disconnect... router is 100% OK, connects with PS3 or other device OK...
obviously a problem with the MAC address, in advanced wifi is set to always and my MAC address is 74:A7:22:E5:09: DA... but in the etc / wifi / nvram.txt in line macaddr = 00:90:4c:c5:00:34 ??? not same as orginal...
any help is welcomed :good: and sorry on my bad English

Why dont you try to set your MAC adress then? But if it doesnt work with any ROM, what about your wifi device, might it be broken? Did you already try to connect to other wifi networks? Did it work there? What channel does your router use? Maybe change it to another (between 1-10 I would say) one and try again?
Happy answering and testing

thanks for the anwser
I think that wifi device is not broken, bcuz i connect 4-5 time in 2 days... but page from browser not open... maybe 100-200kb download and stuck... then disconnect...
how to rewrite the address in the etc / wifi / nvram.txt ... I tried with root manager and busybox tutorial from this forum but without success
EDIT: i made some progress... in router settings i change to United States (even I am in Europe - Bosnia) and channel 9... connect each time but not open any page in browser ???
The address in nvram.txt is a dummy MAC address and should interfere with the actually MAC address once it's fully powered on.

The mac address in nvram.txt is dummy address. It's only used if it fails to get proper MAC address or haven't got it yet.
Perhaps it's hardware issue.

[Q] HTC One Wifi connects, no internet, troubleshooting help

Hey guys. I am having a crazy problem. It all started about 4 weeks ago my phone started having authentication issues with my xfinity Router/Wifi unit (Arris TC862)... I figured at the time it was having problems with the encryption so I changed it from WPA/WPA2-PSK (AES/TKIP) to WPA2-PSK (TKIP).
That worked and it allowed to phone to connect to the wifi... But now I cannot contact the internet from the phone... I know it isn't the wifi module itself because it works fine on every other wifi that I try it on, subway and my work.
I am using ViperRom One so I have the terminal emulator... I am able to ping my default gateway of 192.168.1.1 which is the same router that I connect to via wifi, I am able to ping from my computer to my phone... So it appears that I am on the local LAN
I cannot ping google via name or by ip address so that rules out a DNS issue
I tried using a static ip address as well... 192.168.1.50 which I am sure my dhcp hasn't handed out
No other wireless device in the house has this problem
I guess what I am looking for is help if you know what the problem may be, but more specifically troubleshooting that I can do on the phone I am a network engineer but I know little about linux, and what the capabilities of the virtual terminal are... If I was at work I would just span (mirror) my cisco port and then hook up wireshark to see what is happening to the packets but I don't think this router is that sophisticated.
I would lean towards this being a comcast issue but the fact that this all started off with the authentication issue makes me think that it is a problem with the phone...
One thing of note, the router itself recognizes all my other devices as being android or a kindle but for my phone it says "UNKNOWN" which is basically just the common name, it recognizes the MAC and that is all that should matter... is there a way to change your hostname on the phone? I noticed there is no Ifconfig command in the terminal but I am not sure if that is where you would change that anyhow.
Well I figured out the problem... Stupid Xfinity
If anyone else gets this problem log in to your xfinity router; Under Parental Control - Turn off Managed Services - I do not know why this was blocking my phone but it definitely was
Apparently this blocks other devices too like blu ray players with internet ability
http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Home-N...ay-Player-to-my-wireless-network/td-p/1083175
Thank you, thank you! Comcast idiots. Who would think that by default they wouldn't allow devices to connect? The weird thing is my HTC One worked for about three weeks on wifi and then magically didn't. Whatever, now fixed. thanks.

[Q] Xperia SP MAC address change/spoof

Hi Guys,
Can anyone help me please?
I have a rooted xperia sp phone and I don't know how can I change my Mac address:/
I tried Mac Address Ghost, Mac Spoofer and Wireless Mac Address Changer too, but unfortunately after I changed my mac i could not connect to wifi. It says/shows "authentication problem".
I "need" to change it because in our school theres 2 network....one for students (Let's say NetworkA) and one for teachers(NetworkB) and when I arrive school NetworkA is full so i cannot connect to it :/...but there's NetworkB which is nearly empty..and on the other hand it has a wider internet connection. And as you know it is great when you need something from the internet and you have (fast) wifi (that you can connect to).
(Sorry for my english :s )

Hello there , im the owner off Wireless Mac Changer application
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wireless.macchanger
In my app i have provided two ways to the change the mac, if you read the description, the simple way will change the mac but you cant connect to any password protected network cuz of the limitation how it changes the mac, you can choose the hard way , this will let you connect to secured network, but this way may not work on all devices , try to disconnect from the network you are connected to , then change the mac using the hard way
Win
Thanks, I did it without spoofing my mac
I got the routers IP so I made a static IP and it works but thank u again

MAC randomization in P9

Hi All,
I've bought a WiFi repeater/extender with the intention of connecting to my P9 hotspot and connect to all my devices at home using my phone data allowance, but every time I switched the hotspot off and on again, it never connects back to the extender again.
Finally after some head bagging while trying to troubleshoot the issue, I've realised that the Mac address changes automatically every time I switch the Hotspot on and off, rendering the range extender useless!
After some google search, I've realised that is called Mac Randomization and it's a stupid feature.
I also tried a Samsung Note 8 and this doesn't happen at all!
Do you know a way to disable the MAC randomization on my Huawei P9 please?
Many thanks
Yes, on Nougat, Tethering hotspot changes MAC address every time it's turned on.
But I tested also with Oreo, P9 rebranded to Chinese AL10c00b540 - and on Oreo, Tethering hotspot keeps always the same MAC address.:
Three screenshots, for each test I even renamed the Tethering hotspot name, but it's MAC address remained constant
---
PS: For the matter of fact, MAC Randomisation is something else:
- Device should change its MAC address when connecting to different WiFi Access points / Hotspots, to protect its privacy
(not to change the MAC address for its own Tethering hotspot)
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.theregister.co.uk/AMP/2017/03/10/mac_address_randomization/
And regarding to that, both Nougat and Oreo do not change their MAC addresses when connecting to different WLAN connections, but always and everywhere connect with the same MAC addresses (you can test by installing eg Network Utilities app from Playstore)
Anyway, I don't know why on Nougat it changes iMAC address of its own Tethering hotspot (and why not on Oreo), and I don't see any settings to control that
