I do not have root on my SM-N910F .
At this time I do not feel the need to do so.
I would like to know your opinion on this issue.
In Portugal the Knox with the value 0x1 , the equipment is not repaired under warranty.
No one can tell you to root. It is a decision you must make for yourself.

I know it's my decision to do or not .
Honestly , I think it became more a habit than a necessity for most users.
1. First reason
After many years of owning latest smartphones I know very well which application I cannot live without. So after using pathed versions - for a (long) test purpose - just bought them. So - no need to root from this point.
2. Second reason
Stock UI. Been trying many ROM's with good or bad results and realised that there are never ideal custom soft for your mobile. They caused always some kind of trouble. Maybe the reason is I'm getting older and have no time to dig into system, but lately I decided to stick to preinstalled firmware and as the only modification - to change unuseful Galaxy launcher on similar Galaxy one from Play store. So again - no root needed.
And yes - I got my Note4 rooted. There are two reasons I did this:
1. To get a possibility to add any application shortcut to the bar on the right side. I know I can jump between applications by using the task touch button on the left side but I love to use the bar on the right. Much easier for me.
2. To get access to my SD card. From this point root will be always needed I'm afraid.

as far as I know Lollipop fixes the SD card Problems . Correct me if I am wrong
I'm still on Kit Kat. Was reading about SD on Lolipop and personally I think the new system SD storage improvement is dedicated to developers - not to us and our files whatever they are.

I've rooted every android phone I have.. The note 3 took me about 8 months of non root use before I rooted to try custom ROMs.. They were great but not essential.
The note 4 running stock no root seems to be rock solid. Produces good enough performance to run anything with ease I chuck at it.. I like root apps. But deem non of them essential in my daily use of my phone. So in my opinion. This phone right now doesn't need root.

Ive been rooting all my phones the xouple of years and tried allmost every rom. Now i have my note 4 since yesterday but i dont feel the need to root it. Its just fast the way it came with touchwiz. And for the first time i dont disturb the touchwiz it just works on this beast.
So in my opinion i shouldnt root it to make it faster.
Only thing is i cant greenify facebook becouse its a stock app. Does somebody know how i can greenify it ??
Yes
Skickat från min SM-N910F via Tapatalk
Greenify? For battery life?
I'm gonna wait for lollipop, and then at least a few updates to that before I root.

It depends on what you are doing with your phone. If you use mobile banking I recommend you DO NOT use root if so use as much protection as you can. With root you basically control anything - change design, control behavior of you device, control it's CPU and GPU, using different ROMs and more.
I've rooted my S4 and with awesome tools on XDA I was able to revert it and with USB jig make it totally unroot without any evidence of change.
It probably will be on Note 4 however Know could be problem.
I use root, I've SuperSU Pro and also I use Eset Antivirus. Mainly I use Xposed and fantastic X-Note ROM. Also what I love about ROOT is backup - simpy in recovery like TWRP.
Anyway it still depends on you what you wanna do with your phone. You can live without it in stock but at least Android 4.4.4. in Note 4 with Stock ROM is pretty junk on RAM.
Just a personal preference. I specifically root all my devices for two main reasons.
1 adware programs
2 hotspot
Those 2 reasons usually are the only 2 for me. The warranty thing i feel like it doesnt matter for me. I use to keep the sprint insurance on my phones and if i had a prob i could just take it and and get a replacement or repair. Sprint hasnt ever told me they wouldnt fool with my phone because it was rooted. I just bring it in with stock software and most of them dont even know what root is. I swap around phones so much now i just dropped the insurance all together because i figured i was paying 130 dollars a year with the rate increase and i wasnt benefiting from it. I hardly ever use any kind of hotspot and sprint makes u pay 20 dollars extra a month. I dont think i use it enough to justify paying that. I can go 6 months easy without using it. Its just those few and far between cases where it comes in handy.
My 2 cents

I didn't root my Note 1 or the Sony Z Ultra but I've been looking into rooting the Note 4 due to the phone interface being far too large for the size of the phone screen, the Z Ultra was correctly scaled to suit the larger screen so it made the Note 4 feel very cramped in comparison. I've used the adb trick I found on this forum to adjust the DPI without root which largely works well, it mucks up most of the Samsung applications which is fine as they can be replaced aside from the stock camera application which is meant to get the best out of the camera. The only solution seems to be to root it and set custom application specific dpi's although I'm not finding the misaligned camera screen too much of an issue.

The only reason I would really love to root is :
1. xprivacy
2. Ability to use any app in multitasking mode
But still waiting on the new android

I was lazy about rooting my Note 4 for a while but as soon as I did I realized I should not have waited as long as I did. There is some really solid, stable, streamlined ROMs available right now. The lag on stock is not as noticeable until you've rooted and installed a custom ROM. Now I can truly say the 4 is a beast.
touchwiz has no lag on stock. turn off window transition animator in dev options in stock settings and your lag will disappear.

No...no LOL...deactivating the window animations always does help a lot to prevent lags. Afterwards everything is much more smooth. It's the first thing I always do when setting up a new phone / custom rom.

I think that's what most knowledgeable people do when setting up a new TW phone. The LOL is because that doesn't eliminate the lag that is there. There is so much discussion about this all over, I don't really want to start it all over again here.
Hi, I'm new here, but I've been around for awhile, trying to find someone who has been going through the same stuff as me, and I finally have. My dilemma is this. I just got my nexus 2 days ago, upgrading from the n5. After installing 5.1, rebooting and restoring my apps I began to notice some lag. Like touchwiz type lag I had on my old note 2. And for the life of me I can't find any info on wtf is going wrong. It's the little things that I definitely expect a brand new phone to not do. For instance, when I swipe away running apps, they hang and freeze on the side of the screen. Play music routinely freezes when I try to play an album. Whenever I go from chrome to messenger, or close the app drawer, it lags. To the point that I don't even want to let people check my phone out. It is noticeable. I went back to T-Mobile and they said their diagnostic couldn't find anything, and maybe I was just too critical, but I'm not happy with this performance. I'm not rooted, just running apex launcher, animations turned down, no 3rd party apps, and it's not right. My question is, what do I do? I've got a week left on my grace period, does this sound like a faulty phone? Please help. I honestly don't want a different phone, just a "blazing fast, lag free nexus" as so many of you declare you have. I'm probably gonna have to shell out 50 more dollars for a restocking fee, and if I do and find that this is just the performance I can expect from the nexus I'm gonna be screwed. I hope you guys can point me in e right direction, because it seems like for most everyone 5.1 addressed all the encryption lag and stuff. Yet my fresh out the box device is as bad as my n5 was. Thanks in advance.
I also notice the lag when closing running apps and also in Play Music but not when closing the app drawer. My nexus 6 also gets pretty warm.
I think its an issue with android 5.1 and will be fixed in the next update hopefully.

I can't say I've noticed any lag or freezing, but there again I've been running a custom rom/kernel since day one. I suppose you could scale down animations to help any lag.
My phone only gets hot when turbo charging, as does every turbo charge phone.
Yeah the heat issue is not a big worry for me, but I'm just trying to figure out if my expectations were inflated or if there is something wrong with my device. As it stands now, I could not in good conscience pay 700 bucks for this device. I am a mailman, so I use my phone all day for music, directions, calls etc. And I'm out there moving quickly, I can't spend the time standing around waiting for maps to load, or play music to load up the beast mode playlist And what not. With my n5, OK Google and wired skullcandys I had full command until lollipop screwed it up. When you guys say you see No lag, do you seriously mean when you swipe away apps they just fly off the screen full speed and liquid smooth? I wish

try factory resetting from the stock recovery.
I have had my Nexus 6 from Verizon for a month. I am stock with Nova launcher. No lag anywhere at all... I use play music all day at work and I swipe the apps to close the programs a few times a day. Never have I seen them stick to the side for a moment. I have have my phone seem to lockup a few times but a reset always makes everything okay again.

Kill the 3rd party launcher, that can definitely be a source of problems like you are describing.
Second, root, kill the encryption, format data partition (to actually remove the crypto), restart. The encryption in 5.1 is *STILL* swcrypto, and will definitely cause slowdowns, increases memory consumption, and is just downright miserable.
you got to try things out. different software is not all the same.
Do any of your apps have accessbility access? I have been experiencing similar symptoms to yours, there's a video showing what it does to animations in the thread I made asking if anyone else experiences this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/help/ui-stuttering-caused-accessibility-t3088343
Try turning off all accessibility access permissions and see if it goes away.

Man I wish it was as simple as you make it seem. To me that sounded like if I said I want an 11 second car, and you're like, well just swap in an rb, port and polish, bigger turbo's, etc. Haha its not that easy I think. I've always wanted to try root, but I was afraid to brick it up. If I've decided to pay the restocking fee anyway to get a new nexus, would it be unwise to try rooting now?
So I'm still having this problem, and unfortunately I have been unable to find any explanation for why this micro stutter exists. I think I have to return this phone but tomorrow might or forever hold my peace. I'D really appreciate any insight available as to why a brand new flagship caliber nexus would have micro stutter that I can't fix.
Thanks guys
.just bummed cause there is no other worthy phone at the right size besides the nexus. But I can't pay for a glitchy device.
Sad but hopefully an update will fix it soon

If you havent traded it in yet... did you try the factory reset? Definitely remove apex, try the phone with stock launcher, then with nova. If that doesnt work for you, I would root (make sure you study and learn) and install a custom ROM. I'm currently running AISP, its the best ROM Ive ran so far on my nexus 6 Good Luck bud.
As soon as I got mine, I turned off encryption and minimized animations and had no problems. Now I'm running a custom rom, and still no problems. Fast as #&%@.
encryption is not the issue

I wanted to thank all you guys that posted, I appreciate it. So I went ahead and restarted in safe mode and realized the problem lay with one of my apps, or running alot of zooper widgets and not factoring that into account when judging the speed of animations. Anyhow, I havent identified a particular app that was causing the problem, but it has gotten better now that Ive cooled it with zooper. Still love this phone, glad I didnt trade it in for a smaller s6 or old g3, next step, learning what im supposed to do once Ive rooted this phone.

Hey guys, G-925A user here. Can anyone please tell me if I'm the only one experiencing slowness, freezing and overall glitchiness on my s6 edge?
I mean this thing has 3gb of ram right? It should breeze through multitasking, but it just crawls. My g2 and g3 were waaay faster and never froze up as much as this thing does.
Is it touchwiz? Att bloatware? I'm rooted and using titanium backup to freeze as much bloatware as I could find. But it still doesn't work as well or as fast as I believe a phone with these specs should.
Looking for ideas from the community here, should I try cleanrom? Has anyone experienced similar issues and fixed with custom rom?
Thanks in advance guys!!

I have the same phone on ATT. I don't have any freezing or reboots, but after about 2 days without restarting, it gets super slow.
I have used several debloated roms and they help a lot. The S6 partial memory fix helps a little bit, but the phone slows down more in the long term (restarts always help helps).
same experience here. memory fix only lasts so long. phone comes down to a crawl so badly that sometimes i think the phone completely locked up. happens during texting, using FB...pretty much everything. it's starting to get annoying. i love this phone but this is horrible.
Same here. So frustrating. Happened to me the other day that I needed driving directions. My wife pulled out her iphone 5s and asked siri. She had turn by turn before I could even load the gmaps screen. She laughed at me. It hurt. =(
Do a factory reset - it worked WONDERS for me, ever since, my Edge has been super smooth. It's painful, I know, but the thing was so laggy for me I wanted to chuck it hard against a brick wall. Now it's back to what it originally promised! I suspect doing it every 3-4 months is probably going to be a requirements for power users...

Unfortunately that is the norm. Hopefully AT&T will get around to releasing 5.1.1 since the latest update (on T-Mobile, for example) seems to address most of the issues we see like the lag, and battery drain.
Although some of the blame is due to Android 5.0.x, it is primarily Samsung since I have other phones still on 5.0.x (ASUS ZenFone 2, HTC One M9) that do not suffer from the lag.
AT&T bloatware
I think this is due to the mandatory AT&T updates that are pushed on to our devices, because there is a noticeable decrease in performance after OTA updates from AT&T:crying:
Seems like I'm not the only one experiencing this issue. It's sad that this device performs so badly.
I think I'd like to unroot it and actually install the OTA updates, just to see if it works faster. Does anyone know a simple guide to unrooting?
The funny part is that benchmarks still show high scores.

thought i would add something here. I have since sold my 925a and bought a 920t to have ability to use twrp and unlocked bootloader. (insert big middle finger to at&t here). i have installed xtrestolite and have to say the phone runs so much fast than my edge on att with frozen bloatware ever did. no real freezing during multi-tasking, camera still opens quite quick. I mean so much of an improvement, so I would have to say it's got do do with att/carrier software that ruin the customer experience for us. good luck to you all out there. now the wait for xposed begins...
I went the other way. I had a 920t and gave it to my Dad. Picked up a 925a for myself. I'd do anything to have the speed of my original s6 back. I love the edge, but geez does this thing lag.
I gave in and flashed the original os. The device runs significantly better. It seems the themes from Samsung slowed down my phone and caused a lot of issues with the dialer app.

You probably froze/disabled an app you shouldn't have. The system is stalling because of this.

It's called KNOX, also you don't need root to remove bloat on android 5+. Some will argue for space purposes but the system parition is just that, chances are if you simply cannot uninstall and you have to disable, then the application resides in the system parition. Deleting app in the system partion creates no more useable user space.
As far as Knox, what makes you want to remove it?
I'm waiting to see before buying
With the evolution technology and the reliance on mobile devices, Having KNOX is not as bad as it seems, the piece of mind knowing I have access to defense grade mobile security is great for a business and general security aspect. which goes far past fingerprints and basic passwords. Just my opinion....

The golden question is, is there a back door to the iron gates of KNOX? On the front end it can be encrypted to the moon and back, but if there is a back door, it's pointless. Also with finger print scanners and the iris scanner. What a convenient way to capture personal data. Let the people do the work for them...brilliant.
I'm curious to hear what Dev's that know the in's and out's of the software have to say about this...The only way we'd be able to know for sure is if it was fully open source to be able to see any hidden doors and where they exist.
Just saying...
Oh and I do hope someone finds an exploit to be able to stably root.

xposed installer that's one
Kind of crazy to decide to buy or not buy a phone because of an ap that doesn't even come installed on the phone. IN any event, if ROOT is found for the Note 7 - then you can install Xposed)
Chances are very high that the US Varients of the Note 7 are all going to be locked. I will be shocked if TMOBILE does not lock down the Note 7 like they did on the S7 (well if you listen to TMOBILE they say Samsung locked it - not tmobile) whatever, my bet is it is going to be locked.
In any event, the Note 7 is going to be a beast of a phone - just like the S7 Edge -BUT, not much different than the 7 Edge - a little larger - slightly better camera - S Pen of course - but otherwise, not a whole lot different - that is probably the main reason why I am struggling with whether to buy or not - I played with one at Best Buy the other day and I like the feel of Note 7 a lot - the curved screen is slightly different than the S7 Edge - but it still looks amazing - not sure what I am going to do.....we'll see....I love new toys - for that reason alone, I will probably end up getting it - but still havent made a final decision....I will NOT buy a pre-order like I have done with every other phone since the note 2 - I got burned when the S7 Edge turned out to be locked and I am not going to risk that again ...we'll find out soon enough...
Yea it sure is a toss up at this point and Samsung if you are listening, you are not doing yourself a favor for locking boot loaders. You don't have to worry about anything, because you'll still make the sales off of the majority who don't care about unlocked BL's, but one thing that you do have to understated is that although the phone enthusiasts may make up a small percentage, we are the ones who are responsible for making up the foundation of the phone customizing culture. You are on the edge and about to lower yourself into the apple territory. Don't do that.

Would a root for the Note 7 cause the iris / finger scanner & Pay apps to stop working or is that just for samsung pay? I ordered my Note 7 yesterday knowing that I probably won't see root for a while, but I don't know if it's worth it if root breaks some of the other functions. At least for me...

Xposed is hardly a reason to make the low fruit argument of it might as well be an apple if you can't root it. The fact that I can upload whatever files I want, I can OTG connect keyboards, mice, thumbdrives, expandable memory was brought back, replacement launchers, I can install apps outside of the market, disabled built in software, change what app handles your messages.
Inherently there is so much more flexibility in android. You could drop android back two version numbers and functionality still holds its own against iOS today
All that happens before root.

If its like the Note 5 when it comes to root (if you can) then it will only kill Samsung Pay. Of course there were other devices (S5/6?) that lost finger print scanning because of the root method. We kind of just have to wait and see.

I know you weren't talking to me but in my own personal opinion "less functionality" (A.k.a. without root)
means
I cannot control the CPU frequency or GPU, or the governor.
I cannot change the boot animation
I cannot use xposed
I cannot do whatever I want
I cannot tweak what I want for better performance or battery life
I cannot have custom ROMs
I cannot be able to show off my device like "I got root!"
I cannot disable some of the bloat ware that the system does not let me disable by default
I cannot calm my "they are spying on me" by uninstalling sketchy as hell apps or useless that just drain my battery
I cannot not just be bored and test out a **** load of ROMs or Root applications
I cannot have my snapchat mods/hacks
I cannot (Before I actually got YouTube Red) use xposed to make YouTube play in the background
I cannot decompile system applications and re-write some of it or re-theme it and then put it on my phone
I cannot be nerdy and make my my device seem like a samsung s5 or whatever other device I want by changing things such as the model ID and such
I cannot change my IMEI when I don't want to call MetroPCS but I need to test a different SIM card
I cannot have Automatic call recording (Or call recording at all, on stock without root)
----------
And so much more but then I realized this post is going to get too long and time consuming
TL;DR:
Root is a requirement in my eyes.

Listing all the things you can do with root is great but my gripe is the claim of "It might as well be an iPhone" when you can't root it. Thats a very low energy argument.
ok, i just got a tab s2 from christmas party, and im wondering what are the benefits to rooting the tablet
im all about rooting and all, as my note 5 is rooted running MOAR. And you can check my profile, ive done a good bit of themeing over the past few years.
but as for the Tablet, what good would root serve? should i root or pack it back up and get the gift receipt to exchange it for something else?
No adds

Rooting this will give you the option to do anything a rooted device can do.
Root it. Then let me know when theme it so I have a desire to root. Wait, you didn't get the 9.7, did you? ?
Basically this, do you want the keys to your house or do want someone else to have them and let them decide which parts of the house you're allowed to access?

Well, it could be argued that rooting in the hands of inexperienced users is a bit like handing the keys to the house to someone else. Plus there are rooms out there that you don't want people wandering into aimlessly. Think cockpit of a jetliner.
For me the main benefits are AdAway, xPosed, Tasker with secure settings, and ability to delete bloat ware rather than freeze it.

That may have some credibility if you gave your keys to someone else, but I neither do that nor give any of my devices to anyone else to play with.
I'm the pilot, so I'm in the cockpit and in charge of the jet.

For you absolutely, for the typical user it is more like buying the budget fare and then being asked to fly the plane. For someone who needs to be told "what is rooting" or asks what it can do for them I would not be so sure the benefits are clear. This is not intended to put down the OP, we all need to learn and some learn by asking the right questions from more experienced users.

It comes down to this as far as I'm concerned, you can either be the driver or the passenger. [emoji6]

This is the most helpful post to answer what the OP was originally asking. After rooting, you can install custom ROMs that could give things like extended battery life or the ability to overclock your processor. It may not need it now, but future applications may refuse to run, or run slowly when installed unless you update your operating system. Samsung will eventually stop providing updates, but often there is support for the device by the XDA community who want to continue to use the tablet long after Samsung "retires" it.
As for right now, I'm leaving my device mostly stock until there becomes a strong reason to root.

That's how I feel too. There's really nothing I need to do now that requires root access.
For me it was worth it just for the Xposed module that allows all apps to be used in multiwindow ?

I want to root my new S2 so badly I can hardly stand it because I have a hard time living without AFWall+, AdAway, and Titanium Backup. However, this is my first Samsung device since the Galaxy S2, which had "Triangle Away". Now I'm worried that the thing will break on me within the warranty period and Samsung will refuse to repair it because of the Knox flag.
I'm more curious what the reliability of these tablets has been before I do anything to mine that precludes me from returning it or getting warranty service.

I agree with this. Rooting gives you the option to kill off ads, really backup the device, install software you want (like an adblocker ), not what google/samsung wants you to install (anything but an adblocker).
For me, it started with rooting, as I wanted a real backup. Now I root stock and run titanium backup, adblock, when there is, xposed with minminguard (even better adblocker) and as soon as I get a build working or someone else beats me to it, I install Lineage (previously known as CyanogenMod) to get rid of all bloat and install the apps I want. (yeah, even opengasps gets that treatment, pico only)
My wife was using my CM Moto G 2014 for a while and when she wanted to replace it, she went for one on which Lineage was available... Having to learn a different way of using the phone was the reason to switch to 1 interface for all. (and the restore of her settings with TB was nice as well )

Mine had a bad charger port, while I was developing CM for it. (T810) Flashed stock, KNOX flag triggered, they checked and repaired. However, I'm in Europe and manufacturers have to prove that messing with software caused the breakage before they can void warranty. (Which they usually don't try, as it's to much a legal hassle)

I'm in the US, where we seem to enjoy letting corporations have their way with us. Given the scare I had last night with the battery*, I think I'm going to stay stock until at least a few weeks or months have gone by to avoid infant mortality issues.
*The battery levels dropped significantly faster than I was expecting, and then refused to recharge past 98% until I power cycled the tablet.
Hi, thank you all for the replies here, I would have 3 related questions:
Is there any way to root the SM-T719 without triggering KNOX/installing recovery?
Will root had any bad influence on Miracast or similar screen casting techniques or on audio? (I had a Sony and if the DRM keys where not found the screen cast and some other proprietary enhancements like Bravia didn't function after unlocking the bootloader, don't understand if KNOX is similar).
If so, can this be reversed?
Thanks!

Short of an engineering kernel, which hasn't been found to my knowledge, no. Rooting will trip Knox on this device. This is irreversible, so make absolutely sure it won't be an issue before tripping it.
However, the only thing you really lose is Knox related features, such as secure storage (and possibly your warranty depending on location). I've not really found any functionality missing or damaged beyond that. The Tab S2 doesn't support Samsung Pay as it stands, which is the only other thing that typically gets axed with the warranty bit is set.
Unlike Sony, which for some reason thinks their software is so special they need DRM on the device, Samsung only borks things which are legitimately tied to a known secure device, and the list is pretty short on this tablet.
I'm not really sure if it's related but didn't notice this before rooting... When using an app (Tapatalk/Play Store/Opera browser) sometimes there's a glitch, like for 1-2 seconds the display refreshes the content, this might be repeted every 15-30 seconds... anyone else noticed something similar? thanks!
