I'm a click away from flashing this file through Odin, I just can't take the risk.
I want to say go for it but I don't think I could do it either
I used the ChimeraTool to root the GS6 which basically is the same as flashing this file. After flashing the boot.img file, I still don't have root. I downloaded SuperSU and it's telling me there's no SU Binary installed. I also got a notification from KNOX after restarting my phone but accidentally removed it without reading it. What do I do now?

EDIT: I just flashed the file provided in OP and it's telling me there's no SU binary installed so I don't have root.

You can't get Superuser to work so apps like titanium backup and adaway won't work. Plus, when I flashed that file, my phone would randomly lag and wifi would crash randomly. I had to Odin back to stock to fix my wifi.
please kepp us up to date with any progress on this, does this work on G920A?

Successfully installed boot image, knox is intact (it is still zero), but there is no root. After installing boot img i'm always getting error "Security Notice Unauthorized Actions Error" or something like that.
I'm using same firmware and baseband as mentioned in first post, i didn't tried your firmware because there is userdata partition inside of archive and i don't want to delete my data, at least before i root my phone and make good backup
Please help with root.
Edit: root works with adb after installing patched image
Thanks for your work.

@zogu what do you mean using adb? Can you describe your step? Here what I try but still cannot root the phone.
1. Odin @diart firmware
2. Odin diar-uca_root.zip

I got same "unauthorized actions has been detected" notice like you, but fail to add root with chainfire supersu. Trying all one click root fail too. Can you help to describe your step?

Ah, ic.
Still cannot root my phone even with other rooting tools (not try furious gold chimera yet, doesn't have it). But thanks for you @diart & @zogu anyway. you two give us hope that there's any possibility to root our AT&T S6 Edge phone.
Can someone tell me how to do it, please?
Boot image from first post is engineering boot image and it should works with all 6.0 firmwares.
I'm new to samsung, but i read that with this image is possible to remount system rw. Well on AT&T is impossible.
It is impossible to root phone with this image, but we can do a lot of useful things using adb, disable aps with pm disable, we have full access to data partition, making backups etc...
Actually i don't need root at all, i hate branding (specially if that includes some services, like at&t mail, phonebook...) on any device and i want to change firmware to some international.
All this is maybe possible with eng sboot. There is online available for 12 usd and this is not expensive, but i'm still not shure will i be able to change sboot to 925f.
Theoretically it should boot any kernel and recovery without even tripping knox, and maybe with this image is possible to install twrp, kernel, root and everything else. But also sometimes everything does not work (i read that with eng sboot fingerprint sensor does not work, it probably skip keys reading, without keys no fingerprint).
If someone is able to get sboot pj1 or pf1, please send me PM
P.S. One good thing with this eng boot is that my network selection menu has much more bands, even when i restored stock kernel. Don;t konow how, but it is there

Just rename from md5 to tar. File name should be sm-g925a_uca_601.tar, flash it using odin (AP) and that's it.

OK so I got impatient waiting for an answer and used the root guide sticky in the Note 4 General section for the N910T except I updated a couple things. Samsung USB drivers installed: v1.5.63.0 and used Odin3 v3.12.3 to install the cf-auto-root file (latest from site) and then installed recovery TWRP 3.1.1
I think I'm going to stop now to backup things with titanium backup, then update to latest ROM+baseband. Hopefully can find it. Not fond of the search on this site.

Use this to download your stock firmware. Samfirm. Don't use the website they post. Use the deprecated software. Scroll down and read directions and download software.
Type in your model and csc. Click 'auto', 'check crc', 'decrypt '. Then start. It'll download your firmware.

3. Then root your phone from within twrp with supersu zip. From here.

The thing is the device is running Android 5.1.1 and the build version is from 2015.

Since its not connected to the ATT network anymore, I can't seem to update it.
Apparently the latest updates have been from 2018 and running Nougat.

This files are from at&t servers, they cannot do any harm to your device,
After you download the firmware extract it, download and install samsung drivers https://developer.samsung.com/galaxy/others/android-usb-driver-for-windows
Put your device in download mode by holding power+home+volume down and connect it via usb to your pc
Open Odin 3.12.3 and click on the 'BL' button, then choose the file that starts with "BL" inside your extracted firmware folder. Next, click on the 'AP' button and choose the AP file inside your extracted firmware folder. Click on the 'CP' button, choose the CP file inside your extracted firmware and finally click on the 'CSC' button, choose CSC file inside your extracted firmware and click START

Hi,
I have a note 8 (SM-N950F) UK. It's unlocked and is still on Android 8.0.0 and the security patch version is 01/04/2018.
When I try do an OTA update it says I've got the latest version of the software installed. I've downloaded Samsung Smart Switch and and that says "Your device software is up to date: RD7(XEU)
I don't think my note 8 has a OEM version of the rom on it. (When I originally got it, I believe it was on the EE network, but wasn't locked to that network).
I was wondering if anybody can help me with the fact i can't seem to update it to Android version to 9 or update the security software.
The details are:
AP: N950FXXU3CRD7
CP: N950FXXU3CRB9
CSC: N950FOXM3CRDC
Don't really know what the above means, but would like to update the ROM to Android 9.
Many thanks in advance for any advice you can give.
Terry.

BACKUP First!!
On PC: (computer)
-Download samfirm.exe or frija
-Download latest Odin version (can be found in sammobile.com firmware section or google search)
-Open up samfirm.exe or frija use : SM-N950F and XEU in the search fields and download file (~4.8 GB File) and unzip the zip file.
-Open Odin and put PHONE in download mode and connect to PC.
-Place the 4 files in its correct place:
BL = BL-FILE
AP = AP-FILE
CP = CP-FILE
CSC = CSC-FILE or HOME-CSC FILE **
** CSC-FILE WILL DELETE EVERYTHING and bring back to factory settings (like doing factory reset!) Backup first before choosing this file.
** HOME-CSC FILE will keep data intact
So choose only ONE File!!!
If you run into bugs after update do a factory reset!
They're YouTube guides on how to use Odin and samfirm.exe or frija!
But beware that you CAN NOT go back to android 8 period! So make sure that you really want to go to pie!!
Just to add to what Bluephnx said, the link below will help you on how to use Odin, but also has the download link for SamFirm. (For region in Samfirm, use either XEU, which is UK and Ireland, or BTU, which is UK, or you will get carrier bloatware. You can obviously flash carrier filmware if you choose)

Many thanks for that. Much appreciated.
I'll give what you suggest a go.
Really don't understand why I can't do it OTA tho', would there be something wrong with my phone to stop OTA update working?
And is there any reason not to go to Pie (9) and stick on 8 that you know of?

It just glitches/bugs out sometimes. It has happened to me before, but once flashing via Odin, it usually resolves the OTA problem. You could try a factory reset, which can sometimes resolve the OTA bug, just back your data up first.
I honestly can't remember what Oreo was like to make a comparison for you, but some people do hate Pie, where I have been very happy with it since it's launch.
Here is a little explanation of Pie on the Note 8 on YT that you may find useful.

Did you ever do the OTA update yourself before on that phone or did you just buy it on AP: N950FXXU3CRD7 CP: N950FXXU3CRB9 CSC: N950FOXM3CRDC? If it's been that way since you got it then the most likely answer is that someone else updated it using a version of firmware that can't update via OTA and the only way to fix that is to use odin and flash the latest version of firmware.
