Awesome... Thanks
Well i had the same issue and I had to give it to the service center and I got it back after 2 mnths yea i know it's a long time but i guess it was worth it in the end... but looking at how to do it urself I think it's a huge risk.... to even do it....
I've followed these steps and got to the last part. The service manua doesn't explain how to lift the LCD / touchscreen out (it's covered by grey tape). Does anyone know how to do the last steps?
I cant download that manual to see how far it goes but assuming you get as far as removing the 3 screws and removing the chassis plate to expose the rear of the LCD (can see the LCD part number 62H00004-31M)
All that holds the screen in now is adhesive, you can release this by, from the front, inserting an artists pallette knife around the sides and top and gently and progressively levering up to break the bond. Do not do this at the bottom or you will likely damage the flexi.
You now have an assembly which consists of a glass lens with the LCD bonded to the back and the digitiser bonded to the front, it is probably easier in the long run to replace this whole assembly.
To remove the digitiser lift the silver bonding tape and then the kapton tape from the digitiser connector (4 track connector) and de-solder the connector
To remove the digitiser from the front of the glass lens it is beneficial to heat it slightly (around 60 deg C). Then insert the pallette knife between the digitiser and the glass and slice it off - there is quite a lot of adhesive so take it carefully and do not lever as it may break the glass. Once the digitizer is off the glass needs to be cleaned of adhesive. Label removing fluid is good for this but ensure it doesn't get ino the LCD as it will ruin it.
All you need to do now is fit a new digitiser using optically clear adhesive-a tricky job unless you have a pressing fixture to ensure no air bubbles. I've also found that a lot of replacement Digitisers come complete with the glass lens and as it is impossible to remove the old LCD from the lens without cracking, they would seem pretty pointless to me?
I dropped my Samsung Focus and broke the screen glass. The touch screen works fine and i think only the outer screen glass has to be replaced.
I have searched on internet and found DIY repair videos to replace the LCD screen, but couldn't find any info about replacing the outer glass alone. But read its pretty hard to seperate the glass from LCD and replace it !!!
The LCD screen is costing around 120$ and the outer glass is costing 10-16$. I do not want to spend more unnecessarily if i can find a way to replace the outer glass myself.
Also, Samsung Focus is not oficially released here in India here, so i don't think i can approach the samsung itself.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Samsung focus lcd broken
Hi pranav. Same here , i have a samsung focus and lcd + outer glass screen is broken. In one of the screen replacement video i saw , the outer screen and the lcd as one unit and not seperate. Though , i am not completely sure.
Did you find a way to get the lcd or the outer glass for your phone in India?
Please contact me on [email protected]
Did you find a source for the replacement glass only? Please share.
I found only glass on eBay (hongkong or china i suppose). When i spoke to people from service center, all of them were saying it is not possible to replace only glass and they wont do it !!! i i don't know if it is really tough or they do not want to take much pain replacing glass and want to replace the whole LCD set which is easy for them.
And the total LCD + Digitizer + glass kit, i found it for 103$ in eBay US, and for 120 - 140$ in some other repair sites and Amazon.
Waiting for get the replacement from US as it costs less and get it fixed in a samsung service center.
Don't think that's possible. After all, the whole point of "super" in super amoled is that the glass is bonded to the display.

I've purchased the glass only and I'm waiting for it to arrive. It was very cheap and if it doesn't work, I'm not going to be too upset for buying it for about $11.00.

Amazon also has unit which is the LCD and digitizer already assembled.

I can update if and when I receive my replacement glass from gogotoshop. I find the place questionable but used paypal and can dispute the transaction if it isn't legit.
BTW....removing the glass & digitizer is not an easy task. From attempting to remove my broken screen, I don't think it is possible to remove it from the LCD as the previous posters mentioned.
mine is i937
Thanks for reply, But my phone is Samsung focus s (i937), and I didnot find the front class or Digitizer or LCD or all together.
I have the same problem the front glass broken. other things are ok, I asked on sumsung service center they said the whole thing has to change, I am sure experts can change only the front class.
Anybody has any idea about if I can buy it in India or any site who can ship to India.
or in UK, my frnd is coming from there I will ask him to buy there for me.
Please guys help me.

So just like the samsung and iphone models, the focus and focus s can be done the same way? I know for a fact that the galaxy s4 Active is best done by machine. Since ive tried but failed to do one. I have removed the glass from a galaxy s3 mini successfully, should this phone be the same? Please respond quickly!
Thank you
Hi there,
I'm looking to replace the broken glass front of my gt-i9305. However, most parts I find online explicitly list the i9300 unit.
Will a i9300 glass front fit the i9305?
Thank you for your input,
Gnaddel
Hi Gnaddel,
First i would like to say that i am no expert or authorized in this filed but as far as i know and checked in the internet, those 2 models are exactly in the same dimensions and the only different is that the radio/modem is Qualcomm brand and not Samsung.
So i think it will fit
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i9305_galaxy_s_iii-5001.php
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i9300_galaxy_s_iii-4238.php
Only differences are the motherboard and the antenna module.
All I can say is that when I replaced the screen for my i9305 they told me the part for my phone was a little cheaper than the one for i9300. And that was an official Samsung service center. I asked why and they didn't really know the reason. At this point I'd say they are different.

That's probably because they sell more i9300's than i9305's so they charge more for the screen to make money.
I did see one guy selling an i9300 screen on eBay because it didn't fit his i9305. Not sure if they just didn't know how to fit it properly or if they actually don't fit. I would think that they would fit because its exactly the same frame. Its only if the extra components need more space to fit in the phone.

I doubt they've been successful repairs that's went off without a hitch in that case..
The thing is the back of the screen on the i9300 and i9305 differs a slight, (i'm talking about the iron/steel bit on the back of a complete assembled screen) this won't accommodate the motherboard on the various units .. apparently the i9305 has a few more transistors or the like on the motherboard..
Example: i9300 screen assembly, i9305 mid frame..
The motherboard wont slot down properly, leading to the bottom left corner (Seen from behind) to not go down properly, which in turn leads to the mid frame siting a slight skewed, which also means that the battery cover won't fit properly, as the bottom left corner will be lifted enough to where it might fall off without much strain.
This is due to the the ironmolding on the back of the screen assembly being slightly different from the i9305 device, which fits the additional capacitors and so forth better.
,
,I can .. if requested provide photographs of the differences i'm referring to, as I've a number of screens in-house.
I have also i9305 and my gf has i9300.
i bought some screen protectors and put them on both phones.
on the i9300 fits nice.
on i9305 the edges of the protector do not stick on the screen. and it now has a non pretty margin of unstuck plastic.
it happened after multiple tries with many different protectors.
so i assume that there is a difference betweenthe two screens . some kind of curve is on ii9305 screen.

it not working, home button not working ?
did you try after replace ?
We are talking about two different things here.
Some people are talking about the front glass. This is exactly the same for both models. The S3 LTE (i9305) is the same design but altered for 4G so the motherboard and some antennas have been altered and the metal frame and some other elements needed to be altered too to accommodate the alterations.
Battery and battery cover are also the same. Also the cameras, speaker, vibrator and wifi antenna. I'm not sure about the LCD screen and touch screen but I would say hey are the same too (I'm talking about these two elements alone, not the frame)
If you try to fit a regular i9300 front (frame, LCD, touch screen and glass) to a i9305 motherboard, you will find it doesn't fit perfectly. Main problem is in the different disposition of the big square chips in the motherboard side that touches the front frame. i9300 frame has a rim around those chips that touches the golden line in the motherboard that surrounds them. Just over the microUSB housing there is a part of that rim that enters the squared perimeter. That piece of rim has been removed so the rim in the i9300 frame will avoid the chips in the i9305 motherboard to fit there.
The lower left corner of the frame, near the screw hole, is also a little different, again due to an alteration in the rim.
Finally, the i9300 frame has a tiny metal bit in the very lower left corner, near the mic that avoids the plastic back middle cover of the i9305 to fit perfectly. that's because this cover houses at the bottom an antenna (I guess this is the 4G antenna) that is slightly bigger that the one in the i9300. You can think you could use the i9300 middle cover instead, but then you would be fitting the phone with a 3G antenna instead of 4G. what's more, this antenna has 3 points to connect with the motherboard while the i9300 antenna has only 2 points.
The reason the home button doesn't work is because the home button is not connected to the motherboard through the main connector but using two spots that you can see just over the mic white rubber housing. since the motherboard is not down to the position it should, it will not touch those spots.
Still, I believe there is a solution and it consists in using a Dremel tool to remove all the aforementioned parts of the i9300 metal frame so the i9305 motherboard and middle cover fit correctly.
Some precautions have to be taken. Covering the holes in the frame to avoid metal splinters entering the LCD circuits and painting the removed parts properly to avoid contact of the metal with the motherboard circuits.
I haven't tried it personally but I'm probable going to do it this weekend so I will tell you how it goes.
And next some pictures illustrating everything I explained:
Thanks for this, jedikalimero, this is exactly the information I needed.
In theory would it be possible to disassemble the entire front assembly of an I9300 to get the digitiser and screen panel out and attach to the front assembly of an I9305 so the gaps match up on the board?
Pretty much what I'm thinking of doing is replacing the cracked digitiser of an I9305 with the digitiser of an I9300. As you have shown, the front panel assembly would not be compatible, but I was thinking of disassembling the I9300 assembly and doing what I mentioned above.
I know the screen assembly is quite difficult to take apart as a lot of it is held together with glue rather than screws so it might not be worth the effort. Just thought I'd ask anyway.

Forget it. It is practically impossible to remove the lcd and touch sensor from the frame without damaging them. Even removing the top Gorilla glass is a very difficult and risky task since it is fully glued to the touch sensor and this to the lcd and this to the frame. Not only the edges but all the surface. Samsung worked very hard to make the front assembly unrepairable.
You could buy just the lcd and touch sensor and put them in the emptied frame of your broken screen but you still have to save the touch buttons and put a new front glass. I've compared the prices of the lcd+touch sensor assembly and the prices of the full front assembly and it isn't worth the effort. Just buy a front assembly for your S3 LTE and sell the broken one at ebay.

i9305 and i9300 are the same except for a little differences in the motherboard and LTE antenna. You can safely change the screen

I tried it a little differently:
Instead of removing the metal legs on the display, I put some clear tape on those areas causing a short on the mainboard. As this doesn't make the PCB fitting mechanically to the display, I didn't tighten the black center screw very much. If you then use a dremel for the midframe, everything works technically and also the gap on the left bottom disappears.
I was afraid of metal flitter in the electronics when cutting the metal legs. Obviously, the mainboard is very robust. Even tough I caused several times a short by the wrong display, everything is still fine....

Anyone knows whether I can fit i9300's loudspeaker(wifi, gps, headphone jack) assemble in i9305?
Any extra antenna there?
I'm afraid 9305's 4g antenna is there..

not 100% sure but the tracks that can be seen under the white paint (or black paint) on the outside of the piece are different in shape from i9300 to i9305
What is sure is there is at least one antenna inside the piece, maybe two
Jedikalimero,

From the photos I have inspected, the number pins in that particular assemble in i9300 n i9305 are the same and appeared in the same place. Can't judge from 9300's photo though. In fact in my i9305, that part say i9300 on outside.
Not sure if my unit had been tinkered before as i bought it as a 1month old 2nd hand unit.
Anyone know where to find the sticker that holds the frame to the display?
Just did a logic board replacement, and the screen is loose in the housing. You can push it in a good amount and it slowly pops back out. The sticky is done.
I need the thin adhesive that follows the frame boarder, but can't find it anywhere online. All I find are digitizer to LCD stickers.
Anyone know where to locate what I'm referring to??

hi...
i have a d802 device with broken screen glass...
touch & gestures work... screen works... it only has a few cracks on it...
can i just replace the front glass (cheaper solution?) or must i replace the whole digitizer and front panel...
any suggestions on trusted online shops thazt sell genuine LG d802 parts?
thanks in advance
Digitizer and glass is a single unit, and is readily available on ebay (for cheap) so there is that. The thing is that it is next to impossible to separate the glass from the display itself, and without professional tools the result of the reassembly will be quite awful. The best would be to exchange the display assembly as a whole. This is actually done quite easily. Lots of guides are available online, which just makes the process even easier.
Also for where to get the displays. You can actually contact LG or one of their service providers to purchase the display assembly. This way you are completely sure to get a top quality product. This is a tad more expensive though.
Ebay is also another place to get displays, the quality varies greatly here (have gotten anything ranging from completely original to barely functioning knock off. )
Etradesupply is apparently the best place to get displays at the moment, as their S+ grade is comparable to the ones you get from LG

yes, i saw some youtube tutorials and removing glass from digitizer is a pain in the a$$, it can be done using hot air to melt the glue - but it's a time consuming process...
what interests me more is a whole screen section (glass+digitizer) and buying a proper genuine one for d802 (i think some people had issues with installing wrong panels from other variants to their d802 model)
thanks for your helpful answer :good:

The thing is that the D800 and Veriozon models (as I recall) uses different digitizers. The connectors for these should not physically be able to connect to the D802 motherboard.
But to be able to cure the optically clear glue used for displays you will not only need an uv light but also lots of practice. Air bubbles get caught under the glass way too easily for it to be viable.
One more thing to note. the LCD itself is too easy to bend. Any flex will destroy it. Should also note that I too have watched the video where someone separates the G2 glass from the LCD and have tried to follow along multiple times. Every time resulting the same way. LCD breakage. Both times the polarizing filter got unstuck. So if you really want to go this route, my advice would be to find a professional to do the job.
Recently I had same problem: cracked digitizer. After my experience - first trying to replace only digitizer - NOT GOOD. I had to buy a whole set - digitizer and LCD. Just pay attention to your type of LG G2 - you can find all the types. But I am not sure if you can find a genuine replacement. Usually they are substitute, with no logo. But everything works fine. Pay attention also to where and how the connectors are placed and the most important thing - after you took out the old LCD give it a good heat to the back of the battery pack because is stuck with strong biadhesives and try not to pry too much the battery.
I just replaced mine G2 D802 (from 2013) Lcd, you need to replace the whole thing (screen+lcd)I think, you can buy the Lcd from the Internet. I bought the lcd about $50 and got the shop to replace it for $6. Now my G2 is like new.
