Android N developer previews released! - Nexus 4 General

http://developer.android.com/preview/index.html Google has released developer previews. Hopefully someone will port them for our Mako

Managed to get my hands on a used Nexus 4 that is no longer needed. Would absolutely love a port.

Yes, I so hope that some dev will port this to our N⁴. Android N seems great, can't wait.

Please someone make a port for our Mako. I'm currently running Chroma with 6.0.1 and I'm sure it can handle it.

Would love to see this come through for the Nexus 4. At most, I believe that Android N is the last breath for the Nexus 4. Good luck to anyone working on this!

Anyone know if its same bootloader and kernel as M? If it is im sure it can be done

Looks good but I have to leave my n⁴.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk

I have a feeling that in maybe a week or twos time there will probably be an alpha/beta port. And heck yes I'm going to try it out if so, it looks very good and such an improvement over Marshmallow

Please somewone make a port for N4

According to this article
http://www.androidauthority.com/nexus-5-nexus-7-2013-679150/
if we get our hands on Nexus 7 (2013) Android N dev preview it should be really easy to port it to N4 (just like Android L dev preview port back in 2014)

Please someone make N port for N4

[Q] Android L on Z1, possible in theory?

logically, I think Z1 is possible to port the Android L on it, as Nexus 5 also get the Snapdragon 800, so the driver should basically the same
then, we can try to port it to Android L?
Sorry, if you think I am a noob to ask such question
it is just a random question

It could be ported but not on locked bootloader.
For unlocked bootloader you just need a good developer and that shouldn't be a problem.

Well....using that, released version won't be possible.
There must be some serious modifications and changes to boot that.
New kernel and drivers and many things...
It'll never be Android 5, it'll be modified 4.4.4 or whatever will be the latest build...

do you think Z1 update end @4.4.4?
As Sony show us the 4.4.4 update just after Nexus

I, absolutely, do not.
Z1 will get 5.0 that's for sure...
Not only 5.0, I pretty sure we'll see few more versions (5.x.x) after that.
Z1 isn't XS and it has a lot "support time" in front of it...
I know I won't sell it
Sony started to release updates quicker than ever before and I'm very satisfied with them now...
Z2 should get 4.4.4 as well but Sony finally admit heating problem (camera related heating, sometimes even overheating with camera FC) so they are fixing that and Z2 will get 4.4.4 as well..
But...even Sony is faster now with updates and we saw Google finished (or almost finished) Android v5.0 I really doubt it'll be on our devices before autumn...
Sony must work on UI and change it, or change some things in/on it so thet will need a time...
My guess would be:
October - releasing Z3 powered by L
End of November - upgrading Z1/Z2 and maybe even Z (even I doubt that) to L
If rumors are correct and snapdragon 801 will be heart of Z3 they will need new OS to sell it
Same screen, same RAM, same chipset.... They need something new

you wont sell it, and you also have Z2
I guess Z1 is the Lab Rat of Android 4.4.4 for Z2, if heating problem got totally solved in Z1, then Z2 will release 4.4.4 very soon
for the L, I guess will be 2 months after IFA Z3 release,
I checked online Z3 is using S801 AC,but screen have some changes, and I guess if we are lucky enough that Sony would give out their trump card which is curved camera sensor. I hope we will really see killer of Lumia 1020 or 808

I realized that it's better to leave it.
I can't get "good money" for it so I decided to keep it.
My wife is using it and she loves it...
She was always saying it's ridiculous to wear brick in a pocket but when she took Z1 just for one afternoon I couldn't take it back from here anymore
It wasn't cheap to keep both devices but Z1 is just 9 month old device and I don't want to sell it for 300$...
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
I believe all three phones will be getting the newest android update, the Z1 and compact are no slouches and a hardware limitation can't be called as the 800 is literally an underclocked 801 afaik and with android attempting to get lighter and lighter, save some feature which needs to have a hardware counterpart, i can see no reason why the z1 and so forth shouldn't get the update and even the one after that, not sure what that'll be called (MiniRoll maybe )
There's life in the old dog yet.
Could see a port getting done, but it'll more than likely never have everything functional, so you'll be trading off a lot of the stability and features you now have on stock / modded Z1 firmwares, the camera for example would be an issue, interesting to see it in action but I'd more than likely revert back to stock to gain full functionality again.
Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Slow with updates!??? You've got to be kidding me. They are fast enough. I'd rather have that they take their time instead of rushing things and people cry like babies about this and that being broken or laggy. Which people tend to do either way.....
WEll i am that kind of guy who wants new stuff fast, like nexus gets things up and runing first one
Then buy a Nexus next time. OEMs are always behind with updates. ?

[q] cm12 tf701

I was looking and couldn't find any information if CM12 will be supported for the TF701. Does any of the devs who working on CM11 indicated that they would be working on CM12?
Thanks
Yes, pershoot said he'd be working on it.
Awesome, thanks for the quick reply!
Not a lot of developers on the Transformer TF701t unfortunately. Sad that my old acer Tegra 2 tablet I sold has more being developed for it!
Hopefully we may get a 5.0 upgrade from Acer as I do actually like the stock version. Love the speed and look of Lollipop on my G3 and hope to have it on the tab too.

I feel similar about this also. Hopefully someone can post a very detailed thread on how exactly to develop for this tablet. I am a beginner computer science major and want to try developing during the break, but can't afford to brick this thing since this is my school/work tablet. If anyone could post a thread like that, I could try to put some work into it.

I have the original EEE Pad (TF101) which has great developer support, the KatKiss ROMs is amazing. I can't believe hos smooth and fast KatKiss 4.4.4 is running on that old hardware! The stock ROMs on TF101 was really slow and buggy, and ASUS left it with 4.0.3 when it was just over a year old. The TF101 would be worth nothing today (soon 3 years old) if it wasn't for the great developer community support. With the KatKiss 4.4.4 the TF101 is even better then my TF701 in some aspects. And last month the TF101 even got KatKiss 5.0 which is already on it's 12th release and Android 5.0.1!
If there is no offical Lollipop udate from ASUS, I guess the developer support for TF701 will be even smaller.
I don't think the developer support will grow for this tab anyways.
At least if we can get 5.0 on it I will be satisfied. Shame that such a good tab did not get the attention it deserved. Lack of marketing by Asus and the keyboard hinge problem may have kept it down. Would love to get my hands on a keyboard dock for it but it's still expensive!
Bump!! Any update on this one?
I will probably just go with a Nexus tablet next time since there has been no mention from Asus on continued development. Tried to submit a case to Asus about the battery drain (fixed by removing the nvidia drm plugins). And asked about plans for lollipop update. Received error code so not sure uf they received it yet.
Maybe if severalpeople this we will get some answer.

Anyone want to try it? Please post results if you do
I'll pass.
Wouldn't trust anybody who recommends to use ROM manager on a Transformer tablet....
In addition he says he wrote the tutorial on XDA.
Where?
I don't see a L rom for the TF701 anywhere in the device forum.
If he posted it somewhere else - why not here?
If there is no tutorial - why is he lying?
Yeah, that website spells sketchy all over it to me. Haha. I'm going to pass on Trying to install it unless I see an xda-developers thread on it. Pershoot (cm developer) said in his thread that he is close to done on creating the cm lollipop version but had some unrelated things going on that is taking up a lot of his time lately. He said he was close to finishing it, and will probably upload it soon
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
Yes. Ever heard of a rom coming in several parts??
Wonder what you would be downloading there. @johnciaccio I would take that link down if I were you....
Also notice the mobile data icon in the status bar of these "screenshots".
It's a big fat lie. We'll get it, but not yet.
Just briefly glanced at it before. Looks like the page was actually written by someone and not a bot. Surprised anyone would go to that extent to to get some clicks.
I have a feeling we won't see a LL release at all on this tab. But maybe we will get lucky and Asus will push a update in 6 months.
There appears to be a lot of l roms coming out for other devixes, surely we must be close to a usable daily driver for this device?
CM12 Unofficial release for tf701t
Hello, there is a unofficial version of CM12 for tf701t here.

It is working great.
I found a thread related to it on XDA.

Android M support (Google I/O)

Is anyone here watching the Google I/O? I think the new Android M stuff looks really exciting, but if I've understood them correctly, the Nexus 4 won't get it officially (I think only devices from Nexus 5 upwards were listed, but I wasn't fully concentrated on the stream when it was mentioned).
If the Nexus 4 will be excluded from Android M, how likely is it going to be that it will be ported unofficially, and how good are these ports usually quality-wise? I would really like to stay with the N4 for a while, the hardware is still really good in my opinion.

The I/O was talking about dev previews for 5,6,9, and Player. Hoping M arrives on the Nexus 4. Yet, Apple is still supporting a 4 year old phone with only 512MB of ram.
I.m lookimg forward for M. BUT I love my N4 with lollipop so it wont be end of days for me if we dont get M N4 with L is all that i wanted from a phone.

You're right, it was about the dev previews. I hope we will know more by the end of the I/O. Would be a shame if they aren't gonna update the Nexus 4 as the hardware seems completely capable of handling Android M (i don't really notice a lot of a difference in performance even comparing my 2.5 year old encrypted N4 to a brand new Galaxy S6).
You probably can't really compare a Nexus device with an Apple device though, Apple generally seems a lot more consumer-friendly in that regard (also in terms of repairs and so on). The rumors for Google were, that Android devices will get the newest Android updates for 2 years, and security updates for another year after that. Let's see if this turns out to be true or not..
Nexus support periods are going very rigid.. N4 most likely won't get M. Time to buy a new phone I guess.
We will not have Android M Dev Preview, much less the final version.
The way is a super-mega-awesome-dev to the port of M Dev Preview for us. I find to be difficult because there are not M Preview for Nexus 7 2013 to help a little, which has a similar hardware with our old N4.

This was never confirmed though, right? We won't get the Dev Preview for the Nexus 4, but neither did we get that for Lollipop, if I recall correctly (only N5 and N7 did, I think).

Yep, only Nexus 5 and 7 2013 got the L preview, but N7 2012 and N4 ended up getting the Lollipop update in the end.
Well, we did have an L Preview ported to Nexus 4, courtesy of @sykopompos, I see no reason why one wouldn't do the same for M Preview as well

If not a port of a factory image, the Nexus 4 will still get custom ROM support with M. If Devs can build CM12.1 on devices that never got past Jellybean, getting M on the Nexus 4 should be a cinch in comparison.
I'd be surprised if the N4 got official M from Google. The word is that from now on Nexuses will get 2 years of updates. Us N4 owners are just lucky that we were given a device so awesome it's still capable and relevant 2.5 (and counting) years later.
It would be awesome if we get it....there no question of the hardware being capable as there are no major changes, i guess.
@sykopompos
I don't know if it helps, but I downloaded Nexus 5 latest 5.1.1 (LMY48B) factory images and Nexus 5 - Preview M images and extracted both of them.
I found out that the bootloader and radio are exactly the same. I extracted the system.img from both of this builds and found out this differences:

I was thinking to download Nexus 4 latest 5.1.1 factory images and try to modify system.img based on this differences, it's a good start ? I think that I will need some kernel modifications (boot.img) after this steps, right?
Nexus 4 officially will NOT get M

From the diff it doesn't look as tough as L so I guess it is going be atleast 50% less headbangs for @sykopompos .
Come on Señor
Relax, gonna be just fine, n4 and n7 2013 use nearly same proprietary blobs (not just gpu, but gps and NFC), so porting that to n4 will be piece of cake.

I doubt it'll even be 10%. M is nothing half as major as L.
It is almost certain that we won't get official M. We n4 users were lucky to get 5.1, not just ending at 5.0.
However, high quality ports from N7 or N5 will be available(imo). We won't have any trouble with custom rom support.
I am sure an awesome dev with help us out. Heck, my screen on my Galaxy S 4G (yes, prior to the S2) cracked last fall, I was running 4.4.4 ports on hardware with the terrible stats of the SGS4G thanks to the dev Ninjas at XDA.
I have no worries that while we might not get factory, we will get an as good, if not better port.

Android N developer rom for xperia z1

Anyone here have any idea where to get android n developer preview rom for xperia z1 .
any possibility to built this fantastic rom for xperia z1.
Have you seen the mm it was buggy as heck lol. Even if there is android n on this phone i wouldnt get it imo. I would say stick to LP if you dont want bugs. If not then get a new phone i guess. Overall i doubt there would be unless sony releases sources again.
