Audio While Using Android Auto - Android Auto General

So when I'm connected to my AVH-4100NEX, audio from Spotify works. Is this actually transmitting the audio over Bluetooth (and not USB)?
When connected, I noticed I cannot play Media audio from other apps. Why is this? Any way to get all Media audio to play when connected as Android Auto?
So far, the only advantages I'm seeing for using Android Auto vs Bluetooth audio are: Maps on screen, prettier Spotify on screen, Google Now on unit. I could do most of this with the phone itself over just Bluetooth.
Don't get me wrong, I really like it and this receiver, but it seems more limited. Perhaps it's for safety, but it's not all that much safer. In Spotify, you can't scroll through all of your library or lists "for safety", but who's to say that my passenger isn't scrolling?

I too have a 4100nex. I think music is played over Bluetooth. One way to know for sure is to disconnect the usb while it's playing.
As you said, you can't play music from other apps. There is a list of compatible apps that work with Android Auto. If it's not on that list, you can't use it. I didn't like the viewing restrictions on Google play music so I use an SD card for all of my music. I like Google maps and the texts over voice so for me, I like Android Auto for those reasons.
There is an app....... something reloaded. I can't think of the name but it will allow you to basically mirror your phone to the screen and you can access all of the apps. Good luck.

Automatically start music with bluetooth

I have the Droid Bionic, I want my Pandora and/or Music player to start playing music automatically when connected to the bluetooth on my truck. How do I set this up on my phone? Or should I check for this problem with my truck?
Market App called Automateit
Buy app called autostarts from market. Find media player in Bluetooth section disable them. Problem solved.

Sounds like something that can be done with Tasker. You can specify a State, that when the bluetooth is connected to a certain device (you can choose from a list of devices you're paired with) it will perform certain actions. Launching an app is pretty straightforward.
Pandora will play upon launch, but I don't know how to initiate playback in any of the main music players with Tasker. It's probably pretty easy. I think there's even a Tasker forum on this site you could ask for help.

Is there a way to prevent music from pausing during navigation?

I was surprised that rather than attenuating music playback the One pauses music when Waze or Google Navy is announcing an upcoming turn.

Not sure on that one, it might be app specific. For instance, last time I was listening to Pandora and navigating, the phone simply turned down the volume on the music while the navigator was talking. In the HTC Music app, it muted the music but it kept playing(annoying, since I was listening to an audio book...) and in Google Play Music, it would pause it.
unremarked is correct. I use PowerAmp and theres an option to pause the music or play the notification along with the music and thats what i use. I prefer the way iOS handles it though. The music goes lower while the notification sound plays. But i haven't found a way to make it work that way.

So this morning I got into the car and continued to stream music to my device via Google Music. I needed to make an unplanned detour so I fired up Waze to calculate a quick route avoiding traffic. Much to my delight the music I was streaming attenuated when Waze spoke, just like it used to do on my iPhone. I was so jazzed and my kids were probably wondering why. So at the next light I switched to the HTC player and no dice. Same behavior as before, muting/pausing music whenever Waze spoke directions. Finally I decided to try Pandora (which I haven't been able to stream to my car in the week I've had the One) and not only did Pandora play through the car speakers, it too attenuated when Waze spoke. I haven't tried this with Google Nav.
So what's changed since yesterday? Well I booted into Safe Mode (per HTC rep's suggestion) to troubleshoot a bluetooth volume issue and that didn't do anything other than remove some of my folders on one of my home panels. That bluetooth volume issue is a separate issue and it was not resolved through Safe Booting the device. Also, it appears there was an update to Google Music so that may have resolved the music pausing issue. Either way, I'm not sure what I did or what happened to the device to fix this behavior but I'm very happy to experience this expected behavior between music (except for the HTC native player) and nav.

[Q] streaming audio, keep phone from entering lock screen

If I am listening to streaming audio, eg: through the IE browser, after whatever time lock screen is set for, lock screen comes on and sound shuts off. .
Is there a setting to keep this from happening, preferably keep lock screen from coming on, or at least keep audio on while in lock screen.
Lumia 925 with wp 8.1
Short of turning off the lockscreen or using an app (audio apps are allowed, and expected, to still play music in the background), I don't know of a solution. There is probably an app for whatever site you're using, though...
This is native behavior due to the way audio playback is implemented in IE. It's not meant for background playback, but as GoodDayToDie says, there's most likely an app for the site you're using. Possibly an app out there runs audio from a WebBrowser control to a background audio playet?
thanks for replies. Sorry to hear that there is no way to make this work while using IE. I'll see if there is one site in particular that I need this for. I only used it once so far, phone is relatively new. If it turns out that it is different sites, then I'll know that windows phone doesn't work for streaming audio from different sites. Don't know that i want to search for and install apps for every occasional site to stream audio.
It works on Youtube for example. Or you can use some music streaming service like Spotify.

[Q] CM12.1, Pandora, Honda, and Missing Song Metadata

I'm running a Sprint Nexus 6 with a home build of CM 12.1 (base CM 12.1 with some minor cherry picks, but currently none involving Bluetooth). I drive a Honda Fit LX (base model without the touchscreen and integrated Pandora). When I stream audio to my car via Bluetooth on any audio app other than Pandora, the song's metadata (title, artist, album) is displayed. Pandora refuses to display the data. The other apps that I've tried that work are Amazon Music, Music, Play Music, Spotify, and even my podcast app Pocket Casts. All of these show proper metadata. Other AVRCP functions do work within Pandora, such as play, pause, and skip. I have even go so far as to use Pandora Patcher to force AVRCP functionality. I haven't used it for any of its illicit functions (I'm a Pandora One sub), so please don't discuss those here or provide links for Pandora Patcher, as they're against forum rules.
I plan to revert to stock temporarily to see if it's an issue with the Pandora app or CM's Bluetooth implementation. I was wondering if anyone else was seeing this issue, whether they we also using CM or another ROM, and most importantly if anyone would happen to have a fix.

Google Play Music capabilities through Android Auto

Anyone that has this, can you explain what is and is not possible with google play music? Can you play and switch between specific radio stations that are in my library? Can you also select and switch between existing playlists that in my library? Can you thumbs up and thumbs down songs?
If you have a rooted device, you can try my Headunit app in standalone mode and see for yourself.
Or two devices USB OTG connected...

I've got it running in my '15 Sonata. Yes, you can do all of the things you asked about. I was never much of a fan of Google Play Music, until now.
Picked up my Sonata today. Everything seems to work well except some of the Google Play Music radio station functionality is a mess. When I select Google Play Music radio stations on the Sonata there is a list of radio stations. Some of them are my stations from my phone and they play fine. Others are stations that I don't have on my phone and when I try to play them it says Google Play Music is not working correctly or something similar. Other than that it seems to work great.

Yeah it's kind of basic for now. Android Auto is pretty much a beta product. I'm looking forward to future updates and improved functionality. Still love using it, though!
