Note 5 (Sprint) slow after MM update. - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On a stock phone, when trying to unlock the phone through the swipe method. The phone is very slow. Like when a computer has used up all RAM. I do optimize the phone but it is still choppy when unlocking.

I changed the theme of the phone and now it runs normal as usual. I guess it didn't like what I was using.

[Q] nook hd+ slow and unresponsive

Read through the "sluggish" thread and did not see my issue mentioned and thatthread seems to have become sidetracked with benchmarks and game responsiveness issues.
I am running stock nook rom, rooted and with sideloading enabled. I also use GOlauncher as opposed to the nook launcher.
What i have noticed is that after 2 to 3 weeks of use the tablet slowly starts to get slow and unresponsive. Dolphin takes time to open, and pages scroll very very slowly. Sometimes they will not scroll at all, even though theyare fully loaded and rendered. Scrolling is also noticeably slow and unresponsive in the engadget app. It is not smooth, but jerky, ifit scrolls at all. Rebooting does not have any effect.
The first time this happened i did bring the free space down to about 300meg. After reading other posts here i decided that was the issue, backed up and started allthe way over from scratch! The issue went away. I re-installed everything, got it running clean and smooth and set up just how i like it. I then took a cwm backup and put it insafe place. Fast forward 3 more weeks and i was back to slow scrolling and unresponsiveness again. At no time in that 3 weeks did i drop below 8 gig free, so i know that is not the issue.
Here is where it gets a little strange. Today, i did a full backup with titanium, then a restore from my fully config and SMOOTH cwm backup. I then did a restore all appps and system data from the titanium i made earlier in the day. I am back to smooth and responsive. This tells me there is something that is getting corrupted or not released, even with a reboot. Anyone have any ideas on what to try next time other than a restore from cwm and a reload from titanium?
I had the same issues with stock 2.1. Besides the slow game loading and random stutter for games, the device would slowly start to accumulate to slow for everything. I would like to test with 10.1 as my native stock OS, rather than 2.1.
I had a similar experience. Even after disabling nook sync apps and making tweaks, stock would eventually slow down. Something about stock 2.1 just doesn't manage its memory/cache properly.
This isn't the solution you may want, but I'd recommend trying emmc Cm10.1. Its plain, but its virtually bug free and hasn't crashed on me yet.
This isn't the solution you may want said:
I've been rooting and bootloader unlocking Android for about 3 years now and this has to be the easiest tablet to put CM 10.1 on with the latest tools. It's actually easier than my Nexus 7 when it first came out. My hair actually turned grey when I was unlocking my Note 2 bootloader. I wish every Android device was just as easy as the Nook HD+. I think part of the confusion is that in the beginning you had one method (running CM off sd card) and you now have the more current method (replacing Rom which is the most common). The development area needs to be cleaned up better because it does look confusing. I've only been a Nook HD+ owner for 24 hours and I have made my custom micro SD card, installed CM 10.1, reverted back to stock with no backup (needed to return for a bright pixel in the middle of the display), repeated process again with new tablet and made proper backups. Sounds like a lot but this is nothing compared to what I've been through.

New unbranded Moto X keeps freezing

I just switched carriers and phones coming from Verizon galaxy s4. I got this phone straight from Motorola 5 days ago. Right out of the box i let the update run. First thing I notice is how slow and unresponsive the phone feels then it starts doing weird glitchy stuff of which the worst is the screen randomly freezing.
I was really excited about this phone. Am I just expecting to much from a 300.00 phone after coming from a s4?

Not at all. The ones I have had run amazingly fluid. Your OTA may have a glitch. If a data wipe doesn't clean things up try re-flashing the firmware.

Wow I'm jealous, that makes me want to keep it. I did do a data wipe. I didn't think to just re flash everything I'm gonna look in general for a write up on how to do that.

Should not be any lag, are you using a proper nano sim card that was included with the phone?
No? The nano Sim Motorola sent with it was t mobile. I didn't think it would work so I went to att and got theres?

Moto X is very fluid and smooth. Factory reset and if that doesnt work exchange phone under the 14 days
Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
You should return it and get a different one.
If you want flash factory firmware, read the "Return to Stock" section in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/ref-how-to-root-4-4-links-guides-t2603358
Just make sure you flash the correct firmware or you may brick the phone. If you have the XT1053, use the "T-Mobile US" firmware.
The Moto X run smoother than the S4 without all the bloats, it's overall a better experience imo.
Follow up - did factory reset, all the problems are gone except for the random freezing.
I want to clarify for anybody else having a similar problem. The phone is not locking up completely, what it is doing is suddenly refusing to recognize to any touch input and stays like this until the sleep timer kicks in. Then the screen fades out the phone goes into its normal Active Display mode and is back to normal. I can just unlock and continue. Alternately I can also lock the screen manually then unlock instead of waiting for sleep timer.
I can not reproduce the problem its still random. I am usually using chrome, youtube or tapatalk when it happens?
I tried changing sleep settings, turned active display and every other Motorola add-on off. And messed with the proximity sensor but i didn't make any difference.
Went ahead and got the RMA from Motorola. I thought about trying to manually re install the full rom, but I hesitate because im not sure if that could jeopardize my return?
*Update went ahead and flash full rom via adb phone seems alot more responsive has not froze yet, gonna keep testing.
** Update 12 hrs later NO PROBLEMS I think it is fixed!
Any update about random freezing?
I'm suffering that when i switch between apps or play games. I think it's because graphic rendering problem. I'm still trying to fix that.
Update:
After I uninstall 'GPS status', the phone will close apps sometime instead of freezing. A little improvement huh?

My Nexus 6 Is Terribly Slow

Couple couple of things here:
1) I bought a nexus 6 from the Google Play store. I got a few updates since then and also rooted the phone. What I did not notice is the build number. The build number on my phone is: LYZ82J. I searched and found that this is a T-Mobile build. This is really strange because this is not a t-mobile phone. Although my carrier IS T-mobile.
2) The reason why I noticed the build number is this: I wanted to disable the forced encryption. My nexus is running EXTREMELY slow! Its just lags after lags. And I figured maybe disabling the encryption might help.
3) I tried everything to speed up the phone. At this exact moment I have 54.64GB of storage and 1.8 GB of ram Free on my device. I have uninstalled all of the third party apps that run on background, such as Facebook. Other than the root, everything else is completely stock on this phone. I do not have anything running in the background for things like Tasks, Launcher, Gestures, etc.
4) I ran a test on Geekbench 3. Every app was closed. And no third party app was running in the background and I got 774 for single core.
Questions:
1) Why do I have T-Mobile's build on my phone. And is this the reason that the phone is slow.
2) Why is my Pure Stock Nexus 6 so slow.
3) Can I download a factory image from Google's Website and Flash a Different build number on my phone?
3) If not, how can I disable encryption. And will it help speed up my phone?
Thank you so much for your answers in advance.
Mine also has random slow downs. I can't stand it, there's no way such a powerful device should stutter from time to time. I'm running the M3 preview, rooted, i don't think i'm encrypted.

1. I don't know the logic behind the updates, but since your on t-mobile, the updates appear to pull toward your carrier. Doesn't seem to matter that you have non branded.
2. I have always found stock to be much slower than roms. I know it's a pain, but it does help to wipe the phone from time to time.
3. Yes
4. You have use a kernel that doesn't force encrypt, and do a complete wipe to get rid of the current encryption. i dont believe it will speed up the phone to any noticeable amount.
My suggestion would be to go with a well made ROM (there are plenty).
I suggest Pure nexus ROM with hells kernel.
It will give you a stockish feel without all the stock lag.
My geekbench below, running pure and hells.
OTA builds are decided by your sim. T-Mobile sim get T-Mobile build.
Geekbench score running JDX 3.0.4. http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/development/rom-jdx-1-0-t3121053
im glad that i was off today, from both work and xda. otherwise, id explain about whatever you ask..
I get a pretty good score running stock and always have. Maybe try reflashing a factory image and start over?

I'm completely stock by manually flashing the image files one by one from the Google factory images page. No custom kernel or CPU tweaking. I did root and decrypt using WugFresh NRT.
EDIT: I guess decryption requires a custom kernel technically...
Always remember, those benchmarks mean nothing. the benchmark scores can easily be manipulated by the software optimization and a little system tweaks. A phone with 4 cores can get a higher score than a phone with 6 cores thanks to the system tweaks (in android particularly done in build.prop) and better software optimization. So for me benchmarks are nothing more than a little estimate and their value doesn't mean anything in the practical world.
And if you want to keep your phone upto date without any issues, you should download the nexus 6 toolkit, its the best thing to restore your phone whenever it gets bricked. It's a simple click procedure with one click rooting to boot loader unlocking, try it.

Mine slows to a crawl from time to time, event the soft buttons not responding to touch for several seconds. The boot animation is similarly slow.
It's always been like this as far as I can remember. I am running CM 12.1 nightlies, encrypted.
I guess it depends on your definition of slow. I am just running plain Old stock rooted 5.1.1 encrypted and my device is fast and smooth.
I would suggest wiping the phone and starting over from stock.
Yeah I would wipe and start from scratch. In addition, I would force fstrim on /data and fsck /data /system and/cache.

I never notice any lag on my nexus 6, its stock on page plus. I have no issues with this phone at all. My moto x pure that I had was a laggy turd, I traded it for a nexus 6
I bought my N6 about a month ago, it was running 5.0.1 during the setup it went through 6 updates until it was on 5.1.1 and build was LMY48M and it's lightning fast. I'm also on Fi network with no problems. Maybe your sim card is bad or carrier is slow. You might want to flash the latest build and a new sim.
Good Luck

Removing encryption will definitely speed up your phone without reducing battery performance (maybe even improving it).
I'm using N6Shamu Rom with LeanKernel and find a nice balance of performance and battery life.
If you just want performance try Pure Nexus Rom
My Nexus 6 slows down a lot also. I ran geekbench 3 and was getting 700s for single core, well below avg.
This seems to happen after getting a bit warm. If I run geekbench about 2-3 times, the phone starts slowing down a lot. I'm thinking I have a hardware issue.
But other times the phone is buttery smooth as are high demanding games. Who knows.

Razor Phone 2 randomly freezes

Hi my Razer 2 will just randomly freezes. By that I mean sound will continue to work, the screen will remain on passed it's 5 min inactivity cutoff point, but the screen and the side buttons( all 3 buttons) will not respond to any input. I'm not sure how long this will last but I know it has stuck that way for more than 15 mins. Most of the time I just immediately reboot. And about 25% of those times it will still be unresponsive once it comes back on. But most of the time it fixes the issue till it decides to do it again. It does this about 2 times a day.
I'm not rooted, unlocked, nor have I flashed anything to my phone. It is still bone stock. The phone is only about 2 months old and I'm on the latest update.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Exactly the same issue here, stock completely but will crash on nearly every app I try to run. Screen is so unresponsive it is painful, playing Pokemon Go is a horrendous experience. Taking my handset to Three today to see if they can give me a replacement.
Mine doesn't do it on every apk. But when it does I'm usually watching a video...... Haha no not porn.... Lmao. And the other weird thing about it is when I reboot it it will show the splash screen then boot animation then it cuts the boot animation short and pops up a very basic very old school window requiring me to enter my password. So I enter it and it goes right back to the boot animation where it left off. And finishes running the animation then before I can go to my "Home" screen I have to input my password again. But this time is normal password screen and I have it set up to require it at that point. It's the first generic password screen in the middle of the boot animation that puzzles me. It just started doing this about 3 to 4 days ago.
Had a previous phone that would randomly freeze.
The solution was to enable developer mode. (Settings about phone and tap on build number 10 times)
Head back and find developer options.
Set Window animation scale to off
Set Transition animation scale to off
And set Animator duration scale to off
Restart phone.
Hope that helps.

I've faced the same. Three are not only swapping my handset for a Mi 8, but they have upped my contract benefits to the top level, and reduced my costs by £10 a month. I know the Mi 8 specs slightly lower than the Razer, but I'm fed up with this

That's one of the first things I do when I get a new phone, flash a rom, or just generally anytime I have to set it up from scratch. So it's not that. I guess I'm gonna flash the kernel in these forums that has root capabilities and twrp built in. See if that helps..... I like the performance it has during mobile gaming. PUBG runs on the higest/best video setting and speed like a boss.
Did you set it to adoptable storage when you first got the phone?

If that is the issue is this something that can be reset to have the option to choose the correct storage if the factory image is flashed?

You would have to do a hard reset.
When asked how the memory card is to be used select as portable storage.
Not to be provocative, but why have the option of adaptive storage if it doesn't function as it should on this phone? I've never had this issue with any other device. Personally I'm extremely disappointed at Razer. No updates since the Feb security patch, we are now in June. Razer forums show very little advancement and support, and we know the mobile division has been scaled down significantly.
I would have thought this device could be a devs dream, but alas it appears long forgotten

I agree. Not having any update since feb's security patch shows Razers laziness or lack of concern for their supposedly high end mobile gaming device. Not a confidence booster going into a round of PUBG knowing it may freeze at any moment.
It just froze again for no apparent reason.
And by the way I don't even have a micro SD card in the phone.
This is weird I've never had any of the issues you've described in either my RP2 or RP1. I would contact Razer send it back or swap.

Same. Haven't even had it for a month. Completely stock, latest update, freezes completely when opening either version of Chrome (Canary and Stock) sometimes, and forcing a reboot usually gets it frozen AGAIN before I even unlock it, which makes me force another reboot. Not to mention I think I'm already noticing a dead pixel on the screen. It hasn't even been a month.
I did a factory reset in the stock recovery about 4 or 5 days ago. It's been running beautifully since. No lag no freezing just running as smooth as a unicorn sliding down a rainbow. So I guess I picked up some kind of malware or something along my journey. I've gone to the "dark web" a few times. Just snooping around. But I was safe about it. I used a VPN and ran thru tor browser. But it could have been there that I picked up something. Who knows. But what I do know is it's back to as smooth as it was out of the box after a full factory reset.
same here on rooted
it mostly crash when I want to watch videos on Facebook or similar pages.
it does on stock/rooted stock/gsi and i think it's vendor problem
Moving back to Internal storage seems to have done the trick, especially as my SD card has been disconnected several times now.
Same issues with Radom and sometimes more often freezing as to where I have to hold power down until it reboots.last time it did it was a few minutes ago I was trying to watch a clip about oppo 7 pro video about 5g on the chrome search app it played about 15 seconds and solid froze my phone everytime I tried to play it.it worked fine in YouTube app
My phone is been having this issue lately.
Seems to have started only in the last week or so..
I am running the custom kernal and the "stock deodexed and zipalign" rom.
It could also be that I've rooted...?
I don't want to go back to stock rom so I live with the random frozen screen once a day and since people here have said it happens on stock.
Phone has never been dropped and it isn't hot when it happens.View attachment 4803124

Mine has done this a few times in the past week. Stock rooted, tried stock kernel and arter's kernel with same result. It's only happening to me while using chrome and videos in Facebook.
Running complete stock Three ROM, no rooting. Chrome took an update over the weekend and now the phone locks up when watching video. Works fine on Samsung browser on the phone, just Chrome.
Might finally get around to flashing and getting LDAC working on this thing....

Downgrade to Android 8.1

My Razer Phone 2 has, I believe, a bad battery. It shuts down without any warning whatsoever, often with as much as 40-50% remaining battery power (according to the battery indicator in the status bar). When plugged in, it operates completely normally.
I opened a support case with Razer. They initially told me, based on my serial number, that my phone was under warranty (I didn't think it was, as I bought it more than a year prior). Now, they're telling me it's not, and want me to pay a $99 diagnostic fee, and if the battery is bad, there'll be an ADDITIONAL charge (I'm guesstimating at least $200) for parts and labor. Rather than pay all that (and, on top of everything else, they're EXTREMELY slow in responding to me, often taking more than a week!), I found someone selling an OEM Razer battery for a Phone 2 on eBay, that they describe as "open box" (whatever that means), for roughly $100. I found a Razer Phone 2 tear-down video on YouTube, which makes getting to the battery seem not too terribly difficult, so I bought the battery and will attempt to replace it myself.
Anyway, once I do that, I want to re-flash the software onto my phone, and start from scratch with it. I have this app on my phone called Font Changer Lite, which I use to change the font system-wide on my phone (it requires root). Lately, it's been informing me, if I attempt to open it, that it requires system write access, which it doesn't have, and so it immediately closes. It worked fine when I first got the phone and rooted it, and I'm not sure what happened. I'm thinking it might be a result of my phone having Android 9 on it, now. When I rooted it, it was running 8.1, and I don't remember how it got 9 on it (it won't take OTA updates, since it's rooted) - give me a break; I'm old here, LOL! ? I did install TWRP, so maybe it got on there that way (it's been a while, and I don't remember exactly what procedure I followed to install TWRP).
Anyway, can I flash 8.1 from Razer's factory images, without bricking the phone (considering it's running 9, now)? I had a Nexus 6 that I somehow temporarily bricked by flashing an older version of Android (I was able to eventually recover it), and I don't want to do the same to my Razer Phone 2! I'm thinking (hoping?) that my Font Changer Lite app will work OK running on 8.1.
Thanks.
Welp, apparently there's no downgrading from Android 9 to 8.1, on these phones. I was able to replace my battery (it really wasn't difficult, at all), and now the phone operates just fine, exactly like when it was new.
However, I tried to flash the newest 8.1 release, and the phone just wouldn't boot up - it was just stuck forever at the swirling energy screen. I then flashed the most recent Android 9 release from Razer's factory images page, and it booted right up! So, I'm on Android 9, now, rooted and with TWRP.
Of course, my Font Changer Lite app is again complaining it doesn't have write access to the system partition, and it the closes, rendering it useless (it's an old app the developer stopped supporting years ago). So, I deleted it, but I'm able to use Root Explorer to change the font system-wide, by simply renaming copies of my preferred font (FuturaHandwritten) to whatever font I want to replace in System/Fonts, and it seems to be working perfectly.
One question I do have is, my phone is now again alerting me there's a system update, but it won't take (I'm sure because I'm rooted, or have TWRP as a custom recovery). It's relatively small (it was either 80 or 800 MB in size - I don't remember which; far smaller than a full system update), and said it contained security updates through July, 2020.
Is there any way to take or apply this update, without flashing back to stock, and then having to re-root/flash TWRP, and then having to go through and completely set my phone up, again (there's a LOT of time-consuming customization I perform on my phone, like changing the fonts)? I really don't want to have to do that!
Thanks.

so i have att unlocked razer phone 2 and have camera issue ( when you start camera app screen is black for about 40seconds and then camera starts but autofocus is not working, back camera functions normal) and most annoying sometimes while in call people cant hear me well. on roms site theres only 2 roms for att. 8.1 and 9 tried 8.1 and stuck on powered by android screen. then installed 9 and it worked but my issues still there...
what if I flash rom for global version? will it brick?
or maybe any other suggestions on how to fix this issues?
