seems like i can get easily a tmobil instead of international one. but how is rom development for this variant.? can anyone tell me thanks.
I think you can see a lot of post here, there is a lot of diferent ROMS... Stock based, aosp, cyanogenmod.. Even the genysis, that has a lot of ported apps from the G5. Besides you can easily unlock bootloader, flash TWRP, custom kernels, and get root access. Honestly, im a happy G4 H811 owner..

Okay. As you can see by my post count I'm a newb to ALL of this, so please be patient.
I just recently, within the last week maybe, got a HTC Hero. I immediately updated to 2.1. (No custom rom or anything, my device is not even rooted.)
I honestly do not want a custom rom. To me they almost all look ugly and I have a feeling they're not as stable. Either way, I don't want one.
I do, however, want to overclock my phone. Is there a way to do this without getting a custom rom that removes/adds stuff?
Thank you.
To overclock, you have to root.
I think Jus10o has posted a flashable kernel that allows overclocking on any Sprint-based 2.1 ROM, including stock, but I am not sure. I imagine he'll chime in if he has.
Just out of curiosity, what is that you don't like about custom ROMs? Fresh ROM (not FreshToast) is basically the official ROM made more stable. A lot of people have a lot more problems with the official ROM than they do with custom ROMs, or so my experience has gone. Sprint and HTC fix problems once a year (it seems..) where as the devs here hop on problems with their ROMs instantly. Most get things fixed the same week they're noticed.

Okay. Thank you. I suppose my next step is to look at how to root my phone and finding that kernel..
As far as custom ROMs go, I don't see a need for one. The ONLY issue I have with my phone is the occasional lag, which I would hope to fix with an overclock. Not even sure that would help it, but I want to try it anyway.
Thanks for the help.
I'm a complete noob, so sorry if this is a dumb question. I have spent countless hours reading up on how to do all this stuff the last week but I haven't seen this addressed. I searched before posting, but couldn't find the answer. Will I lose root if flashing to ICS, and if so is there a method to get root again?
I've read that you are able to get root using CWM with 2.3.5. Will that be an option in ICS? Again sorry for the noob question, thanks.
As far as I know, almost all of the ICS Roms out there for Captivate are already rooted so you don't need to do it. Like the one from the CyanogenMod Team, which I'm using right now, is rooted. I'm guessing all the other ICS Roms too.
Sent from my Captivate
That's good to hear! My head is swimming in it right now, so that is one less thing. Thanks a ton for the reply!
All custom roms are rooted. Why would a dev go through the trouble of building a Rom and not have it rooted?
I didn't realize that but it makes sense. Like I said I am completely new to this. I knew that root was lost going from froyo to even the unofficial gingerbread, so is the difference there that the 2.3 was a leak and exactly the same as the official?
yes... leaks are stock firmwares untouched by devs. we take that firmware, add several tweaks (root, zipalign, deodex, extended power menu, locks..ect) and theme it up and that is a rom.
I am enjoying learning all this so thanks for the response, it helps me put it all together in my head.
This, for me, is one of the main reason of using custom roms... pre-rooted and customized with all the bloat removed...
Devs on these boards have spent a good deal of their time making the process painless so people like you and I can enjoy these Android Devices like they truly were meant to be. Free of restrictions from telcos and OEMs...
Don't forget to thank the devs if you decide to use their roms... ^_^
Good luck.
So I've been using my s4 active for about 2 months now, and I have no problems with it, but I enjoy the tweaks.
I've been debating on trying out safestrap, but havent had time yet. I got another idea from another post I previously read.
1st question is, will I be able to get my phone replaced even though I bought it full price, and live in Canada? (in case of water damage, that's really the only concern, as things like smashed screens aren't covered by anyone)
if not then is it not worth it for me to call at&t and have them unlock my bootloader, seeing how they wouldnt be covering my warranty anyhow in that case?
I just want a change to pure, simple, stock android.
I have no idea why you'd get your phone replaced or if it's possible, that's between you and whatever company you bought it from. If you're tinkering around with it with root and flashing things on it, most likely you'll be voiding the ToS or whatever from the seller so that's up to you do find out from them.
The only "pure, simple, stock android" you're going to get on the I537 right now at this minute is the AOSP ROM provided by LeJay, and that requires:
a) a rooted I537 (meaning it's running either the MF1, MF2, or MF3 build of Android 4.2.2)
b) Safestrap for the I537 provided by Hashcode (not the regular Safestrap found elsewhere, you need the specific version for the I537 and it's found here in this subforum for the GS4A)
c) the AOSP ROM to flash, d) the MF1/MF2/MF3 kernel modules depending on the build/kernel you use as your stock ROM
d) the camera fix also provided by LeJay
The AOSP ROM can be found in LeJay's AOSP thread; the other files can be found in Hashcode's Safestrap thread (again, all in this subforum for the GS4A).

I meant just for warranty purposes, but that sounds simple enough.. I've really only been reading up info in this subforum, safestrap included, since I got the i537 anyhow.
I'm assuming you have experience using this rom on this phone, did you notice improved battery? and is it "better" overall? I don't care for any touchwiz addons obviously.
Thank you for all the advice
It's just Android, not sure what else I can say. I haven't noticed anything particular beneficial or negative either way - it's just another ROM to me to use if I choose to do so. Using Safestrap with the AOSP ROM is just an option that makes the GS4A more useful I suppose. Even if it's pure stock from Samsung, that's fine with me too, doesn't matter.
Still hoping for an actual CyanogenMod build if someone gets around to it but those hopes are dying a bit more each day with what's becoming of that project overall. I don't mean seeing full on support for the GS4A, that will never happen, what I mean is someone talented enough to take the kernel source for the GS4A and make a CM10.1 build for us that we can flash using Safestrap. It'll still be limited because of the locked bootloader so no custom kernel stuff, but most everything else could be useful and I do like CM overall.
I don't know what other people want or do with their devices so I can't comment, I tend to keep mine simple and don't get into the serious modding of most everything (UI, fonts, icons, etc) like others.
I'm pretty much a "stock" kinda person I guess.

Alright, awesome. Thanks for the pointers, I appreciate it.
I'm gonna give safestrap a try.
so I got the mf3 .zip, the safestrap apk, and the aosp rom .zip
I am already rooted so that's taken care of,
The camera fix is the only thing I can't seem to find.. and I feel like it's staring me in the face lol
There are mirror links in that thread (and one of 'em was from me), just gotta find 'em.

Hi,
I have 2 year old Razr-M on Verizon. It's been a faithful phone for a long time.
Ages ago, I rooted the phone, installed Clockwork, and Cyanogen. Not thrilled with Cyanogen's performance, I switched to OSE back in November.
At some point in my experimenting, I flashed a new radio to the phone, but don't remember which.
The phone has been reasonably stable, but still hangs/crashes once or twice a week.
Now, I'd like to clean things up.
Get the best radio that allows for international bands, GSM and, GPS
Install a STABLE ROM
Update/Install latest most stable bootloader
With so many packages and options here, I don't really know where to start. (OSE, Pacman, ???)
Can anyone suggest a clear, stable setup for both radio and ROM?
(Note: I travel internationally *A Lot*, so need to make sure all the different bands stay enabled.)
Thanks!!
Should add that I don't care about pretty graphics or extra features. Just want solid, stable, functional.
Well the most stable is going to be stock/stock based roms. Maybe try out rage m on the jb bootloader or root stock kk and start removing bloat
Tapatalk'n it from my XT907 (MoKee 4.4.4) on Page Plus Cellular.
Cool,
And what about the radio? Any suggestions?
I don't think there's much options for radio. Ics/jb radios work on JB bootloader roms kk bootloader roms are limited to only the kk radio
Tapatalk'n it from my XT907 (MoKee 4.4.4) on Page Plus Cellular.
Hello,
it seems that Flashfire is able to flash ROMs on locked bootloader devices. However, all my attempts with Touchwiz-based ROMs on my i537 failed miserably.
So is there actually some ROMs usable with Flashfire?
Or Safestrap will remain the only way?
Bump.
It seems the device is getting slowly deprecated… The only relevant ROM I found was the Golden Eye, but I didn't succed to flash it and it looks like the camera is not working anyway.
Is there even a fully functional custom lollipop ROM for i537?

There are only 2 ROMs that I know of that are being actively developed for the i537 and unfortunately other than CM 12, they're the only ROMs being actively developed for the i9295 as well.
Super WizCyan
SiCK As HELL ROM
Both ROMs have specific versions for the i537 and the i9295 so make sure you're using the right one. If you can't get them to install I suggesting posting in the ROM threads. Good luck.
Thanks a lot! Somehow I completely missed these 2 ROMs in my search.
Which one would you advise to use?
As to let you know, I choose Super WizCyan. It's so good that I'm sad it hasn't appeared earlier so I would have use it when the i537 was my main device!
Now the device is going into hands of a member of my family, and I'm happy it's with this ROM.
Thanks again!
