I'm planning to upgrade from my X10 to one of these 2 phones, Sensation XL and Galaxy S II.
My uses are chiefly listening to music (mostly house & trance music), web browsing with no plugins, taking photos, ROM flashing and casual gaming (I don't play big fat games like GTA III but a sucker for casual ones like Fruit Ninja and Game Dev Story).
Currently I'm leaning towards the XL for:
- Its screen (4.7inch, a bit low resolution means that the keyboard and fruits are bigger, not to mention I'm an avid hater of the super AMOLED screen)
- Better sound quality (heard that the S II's sound quality isn't good and I never use EQ)
- Better build quality (S II is too plasticky, and I just love the aluminium back/sturdiness of the XL body)
- My girlfriend is planning to purchase a Sensation XE
But the S II takes advantage of:
- microSD slot (my music is all 320kbps MP3, 6-10 minutes long/track)
- Better specs
- More ROM/tweaks/mods (at the moment)
Which one should I choose?
i know this one,ive just come from s2,s2 is fast as lightning, its like a lamborgini, games were awesome and smooth,if its pure speed you want then this is your best option.XL isnt as fast, its a bit more refined like a Bently,if its quality and a big screen you want then XL is ideal, depends if your not concerned about no sd card slot but the galaxy nexus has that problem to but if your like me,i dont listen to every single song i have in a day and i have over 40gb of music but i just did what i did when i had an iPhone, just swap and change.Sound quality is far better than the s2 and with a free set of beats aswell music sounds out of this world and as your trance fan, trust me when i say energy52-cafe del mar and alt+f4 - alt+f4 sounds outa this world.Screen wise, that big S-LCD is great when watching movies, youtube and browsing.Loudspeeker is a bit on the low side, not as load as the s2 but nothing DSP manager or audiobooster cant sort out, battery, they are smart phones and they will drain so dont expect more than a day then if it last longer youll be surprised but a thew tweaks here and there and there's more juice and for Rom development.....................................its just the beginning.not as big as s2 or HD2 just yet but give it a month or two and development will start flying.thats my review on both

hmm...i'm thinking of fixing the 16GB (8GB user data usable) thing with unlimited 3G and Spotify. if the XL can last for ~18 hours of usage with ~3-4 hours of 3G Spotify streaming then i may go for it. how's the battery life of S II btw?
before it had an unfortunent accident it lasted a good 16 hours but depended what kernel you were using.i think in terms of battery they weigh up equilly.s2 has a 1650mAh battery but is duel core with a 4.3 inch super amoled + screen,XL has a 1600mAh battery but has a 4.7 inch screen however its only single core so cpu uses a little less power but you can get Mudgen 2000mAh battery which in theory should give you more life but as a music fan,i prefer the XL over the s2,my second option wouldve been the XE but for now,im sticking with the XL
On Christmas eve (24th)
switched from SGII to XL mostly because I missed the Sense widgets after copping with the SGII lack of these latter for over 6 months
SGII lacks widgets (the few stock one are just bleh) and the ones from the market do not always have the quality and the settings from the HTC ones.
* Web browsing is a better experience on XL simply because of the bigger screen
* Music sounds better on the XL, + the EQ is simple & effective
* Loudspeaker is louder on SGII but better placed on XL
* Gaming is the same on both devices (both run any big game)
* Build quality is great on both, SGII is so (too) thin that you might wanna use a case (SGP Ultra Capsule) to have the feeling that you hold it safely
*The cold feeling of the aluminum XL back is great
* Power button is better placed on SGII because of the size of the phone, XL ? its just dumb ... but you can use the volume one with RCmix3D rom !
* SGII camera is overall better, XL takes good pictures outdoor but indoor at night just doesn't cut it, although you can use HDR Camera+ to add a certain appeal to them, the settings and filters on XL are a very nice touch, on the video side the XL is honestly horrible compare to the Galaxy...
* Storage is sadly & obviously weak on the XL, when you plug it in mass storage you get 8.88Gb of total storage to put your music, photos, movies & big games data (Gameloft). Depending on how many tracks you intend to keep with you on the go, you should as you said turn to Spotify or Google Music (which i use)
* The appeal of the XL comes from the very complete HTC Software and the near perfect screen size for viewing multimedia content
* The SGII modding scene and accessory market is big but if you are not bored with HTC sense and you dont want to go look for 3rd party apps and widgets add this or that feature, i'd say go for the XL.
so, how do the touchscreens on the XL and GS2 perform?
Hey i suggest the s II my cousin have it and i gotta say the display is great , the camera isn't bad at all , sound quality however on speaker was soso idk about headphones
For the plastic body it feels great IMO its so light and thin and the performance was outstanding all homescreens loaded whit widget , and live wallpapers running no lagg whitout using task killer
Quite dissapointed whit the battery its almost the same as the x10 the mAh is 1650 and you can get a little bit more then the x10 probably more whit custom roms and kernel
Nothing personal against htc just that they make thick, heavy phones and the design is soso :/ but the built quality is great camera does the job and it runs sense which is really cool even tho it takes ****load of ram !

i have and its no different than a sensation. beats audio being the different. screen 4.3 but too narrow so it seems smaller. duo-core 1.5 chipset works a treat and beats audio does what its supposed to.
BUT just love this XL man. screen size is just right for me and i dont see any visual performance improvements between the duo-core or single core chipsets. XL reminds me of the TP2 when it came out just a really refined device. also have a sgs2 which is just so fast and smooth but let down by samsung touchwiz crap. its lightweight and doesnt feel that bad in the hand. choice depends on you, the user TBH. if you want pure speed and power then SGS2 but if you want something a bit more refined with music software to blow your mind then XL. for me sensation or sensation xe are better for dev work

The beats audio hardware acceleration only works when you play music locally from the music player, not with spotify even if you sync the music to play offline unfortunetly

actually IDGAF about Beats...I never use EQ but clean output directly from the device with a 3rd party headphone (in my case, Sennheiser HD-25 1 II)

okay, my XL is coming in a few days. in the meantime, can anyone tell me how can I revert back to stock ROM after I've flashed bindroid/rcmix3d ROM?

Hi everyone! So basically in this thread i wish to cover everything that one would want to know about the Google Nexus 7! I have a youtube channel which i plan to make the reviews on and embedd them here. I will basically try to cover the Nexus 7 as much in detail as possible. Hopefully my series of videos will help you truly to get to know this device and help you in the decision to spend your hard earned money on this device or save it for something better. All Reviews here are my opinions and may differ from your so i encourage you to tell me how you feel about the nexus 7 by leaving a reply to this thread or on my youtube video page.
A bit about myself:
I am an Android user currently. I started using Android about a year back and since then have learnt almost everything Android threw at me. So i have rooted and unbricked and installed tons of ROMs for myself and my friends. I am by no means a developer although I am currently learning to program in Java. I have also got the chance to work with many Android devices in the past year. You can find the list in my signature. I personally have never used Apple devices(i like them but find them very limiting, expensive and overrated)! After a year of using Android devices i have ended up with the Nexus 7 and thought i would help the community by making a series of Videos dedicated to the Nexus 7. Hopefully this series will help the people to decide if the Nexus 7 is the right device for them in the wide world of Android. My previous device was the Galaxy Note N7000!

I am bummed I had to return it. The screen was absolutely stunning. Better than any screen I have ever seen before. But it didn't have the horsepower to run the main app I needed it for which is the DJI pilot app. The video feed back from the drone was a little choppy. Then I live streamed it to twitch and it was super laggy. Looks like the only android tablet that can do it all smoothly is the nvidia shield. I hope the tab s 2 has much more power. I am looking forward to its release. Until then I am stuck with the shield. Awesome tablet in every sense but it just doesnt have that beautiful screen!

Both of those are my videos I streamed to twitch. I even tried custom roms in hopes one of them would free up some extra resources but no dice. Anybody know any specs or expected release date on the new tab s?

We will know this summer. I have no info on chipset and such but probably an upgraded exynos 5433 whicu is a bit better than the one we have now.

I heard of intel atom, not a great one
It will be 4:3 too, not great for videos
You could have tried an AOSP rom, that would be definitively smoother, at the cost of losing fingerprint and other touchwiz functions
Yeah it seems like the design of the S started and ended with the screen. And well it worked. I bought one.
Hey all,
I wanted to compare the Nexus 6p and Nexus 5 in terms of performance, so I made a video about it for anyone that is interested.
I must say, the Nexus 5 really put up a good fight...

Cool video bro.
Audio was kinda weird, seemed like it was coming from behind me lol.
And I don't trust web-based tests like youtube etc, since different routers distribute packets differently. Gaming and RAM management were more realistic imho and showed that our trusty N5 can still hold its own against the new gen.
But damn that 6P looks sexy <3

Hey, thanks for the feedback. Sorry about the audio. I'm just getting started with the whole youtube thing, so the only microphones I have available are what's built into my pc and camera
I'll keep in mind your comment about Web based tests for any future comparisons like this.
Hello! Well, the time have come for an upgrade. My S7e's battery is dying too quick and is laggy as hell. Looking for replacements, i have the option to get this phone for pretty much nothing on my carrier. Should i got for it?
My main concerns are the overall performance (CPU and GPU) as i hate laggy phones and battery life, would love a phone that actually gets me through the day. Is the Mate 20 Lite good enough for me?
Will be good to mention for what you use your phone mostly.
Anyway, here are my thoughts.
If you are gaming kind user... Go for other phone. Here you must be play at medium settings on most of the games.
If you are camera kind user... Go for other phone. Here you will got a pretty much a mediocre quality photos. AI camera is much of the marketing trick, To me HDR on back camera didn't work well. You cant install a gCam bcoz of a Kirin soc limitations. After shot processing is poor. Overall camera satisfaction is little below average.
If you are social media kind user... Keep in mind screen dimming issue. You will play much with a brightness slider very often in apps.
If you are easy kind user... If you use a phone mostly for calls, little web browsing, few captures with frends that you watching on the phone... Maybe Mate 20 Lite will fit to you. Battery is the bigger advantage of this device. Will take you more than a day and half with that kind of usage.
I'm sure on this price every phone will have disadvantages, but take a look on Poco F1, Honor play, Asus ZenFone 5, Moto G6 Plus or some Samsung A series.

Thank for your insights! Im more of a gamer. A good camera is appreciated, but not an absolute must. I would like it to be on par with my S7e at least though. I will see what i can do then. Seems like this phone isn't the one for me. The Honor Play seems nice but its not available on my carrier/country.

I would say it's a downgrade man! Try to grab a Mate 10 PRO at least!
