First post! woot!
I'm having some serious battery drain coming from wifi ever since I unlocked bootloader and flashed the 6.0 stock rom for the Verizon 2014 X found in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...m-xt1096-verizon-flashable-stock-rom-t3327345
This happens all the time and no matter what I turn off it is still there. I have turned off wifi completely, messed with location settings, wiped caches, cleared google play services cache and even reflashed the rom.
Nothing seems to work and I think I have tried every trick in the book. Is anyone else having this issue with this rom? any tips would be awesome! thanks
Did you turn of WiFi scan?

I'm really starting to miss the GPS rapid lock from my Thunderbolt. As soon as I'd start maps up that thing would pinpoint me in my bathroom. Since I've gotten this bionic, it won't even lock on me in my house and it's slow to do it even when I'm outside.
If you haven't tried it, TopNTP is a good app to try. It updates/changes the gps to use only addresses in your area to cut down on the fix time*. It's not instant like you referred to on your thunder bolt, but I've found it to help a lot in my case.
I'll come back and post a link if i run into one again.

*I retract this statement. You can choose servers based on your location, but he advises this is not always best. Some times other servers are faster or more frequently updated for accuracy. He explains/understands better than I.
typed on a Bionic running Eclipse 1.3 on ICS build 232.
I think that helped a little. It locked on in a couple of minutes. The first time I tried it today.
A couple minutes is really slow, I couldn't say mines ever been that bad, unless of course i was in a position where i wasn't going to get a lock at all.
Just curious, what's your bionic running? Stock ICS, JB? Rooted, ROM'd?

IT's running the Carbon rom
There's not much else i could help you out with, unfortunately. I'm running the same setup as you, and usually get locks in about 15 seconds or less.
I've seen some people mention a free app called gps status i think. It can time how long it takes to grab a lock, and clear & grab new settings for the gps.
I haven't had a look at it myself, but it may be worth a shot if you get a chance. If i find anything helpful, or for some reason start needing to fix mine at some point, I'll pop back in

Might have fixed itself. When I was in Rockford with my parents I uninstalled maps and reinstalled, next thing I know it was locking on instantly.

If you run into this again, I'd recommend a couple troubleshooting tips.
1) Boot to recovery, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, fix permissions. Reboot.
If the issue persists
2) Force close Maps and wipe it's cache and data. You'll have to re-configure Maps as you like.
3) Download GPS Status & Toolbox. Download the GPS data in here before opening Maps or Navigation. This should get you quicker GPS fixes. It's free in the market btw.
I'm having trouble getting my gps to work on cm10.1, I restored a previous backup of 10.1.2 and it didn't work. I've dirty flashed, wiped everything and reflashed, cleared the cache & dalvik, gps status clear, rebooted to stock and it worked, and the gps worked before I installed the backup. Running the latest nightly. Any ideas?

I had a similar problem I posted under CM10.1 ROM topic. What I ended up doing is I boot back to stock (Icarus, actually) and ran GPS Test app. Confirm the baby worked. Went Safestrapped booted back to CM10.1 (slot 1) and ran the same app and this time it worked. It's almost as if there's something "stuck" in the hardware despite using a different ROM.
I just say the lockon was quite a bit slower in the Bionic. My old Droid (original) locks on in about 15 seconds. Bionic under stock ROM locks on in 35-39 seconds, and CM10.1 locks in 43 seconds.
I'll try the recommended app and see if that helps.
Problem is intermittent. I tried that recommended top BTM app and did not see any noticeable changes I reverted back to factory and there are no changes noticeable either. The phone just sometimes refuse to see any satellites the GPS test app shows 0 satellites. If I reboot the phone the GPS make sure a few satellites brawl with low signal and it takes about 2 minutes to get a fix. This did not seems to happen under Ice Cream Sandwich.

Hello everyone, I have read several pages of battery discussions in general and I can't seem to find my specific issue. My wifes x has been getting terrible battery life and I just notice that wifi has been using battery and haven't even turned it ON! Does anyone have an explanation or fix. It is rooted and bootloader unlocked, running stock with xposed. I have tried reflashing firmware without wipe to no avail. Thinking my next move is FXZ but id like to see if someone might have an idea before I do that. Thanks a bunch.

Settings > WiFi > Click the 3 dots in bottom right corner. > Click Advanced > Uncheck "Scanning always available".
You can thank google for this. In attempt to build their database up (they say "to improve location accuracy"), google actually scans for wifi networks EVEN WHEN IT IS OFF! This is now the default setting!
Uncheck it and see if battery use improves...
Thanks for the super fast reply! Done, I bet that will help a bunch, considering it was the third biggest battery hog behind screen and android services.
Hello.
I've downgraded from 5.1 to 4.4.4 a while back, and I'm quite happy with the phone.
But, sadly, the old bugs from 4.4.4 came back as well.
The one that I'd like to solve, is the battery drain by Android OS.
I've noticed that after updating some apps, it's likely to happen. The only way to solve it, is by clearing the phone's cache (this includes a restart, of course)
It will work ok for some days, and then it would just re appear with no apparent reason.
I don't remember having this issue when I was natively at 4.4.4... That means this was not an issue at the time, or I did something to disarm the issue.
If the second one is the scenario, I don't recall what I did...
Now, I've most of Google Services disabled (no google now, or hello moto)... Only thin I use, is location at battery saving setting.
What else would I need to check?.
Phone does have a good deep sleep time.
Thanks in advance!
Guys,
I also made the mistake to upgrade from my fine working lollipop 5.1.1 to marsh-batterydrain-mallow.
I have a sony z3 compact D5803 and all I want is the following:
- install an unbranded STOCK 23.4.A.1.264 lollipop 5.0.1 firmware again (preferably a Dutch one) on a clean internal storage (so I would like to erase everything on the z3 compact).
I already looked on the forums of course, like here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/list-stock-firmwares-d5803-d5833-t2906706
But I don't see the option to completely wipe all the data including this f* marshmallow and install a clean non-rooted lollipop tutorial. Anybody here willing to help?
First of all it is not 'normal' that you battery performance is worse on MM. You may consider doing a clean flash and give it another try.
You can downgrade with the instructions in the link you indicated (do not forget to back-up your data). Actually Flashtool itself includes the links to all (?) firmwares that are available. The Nordic, US and German unbranded firmwares work well in the Netherlands (they also include the Dutch language pack). If you tick all the items inside the "Wipe" box, MM will be removed.
+1
Battery on MM is as good or better than LL, so if you are experiencing strange battery drain, then it's worth investigating to find the cause, rather than give up and go back to an older build.
BBS is your friend and the folks on the thread there will be happy to help with any wakelocks you don't understand.
Google Play Services is usually the culprit, have a look under settings/battery/battery usage. If Play Services is in the top 5 then that's your problem.
Problems with Google Play services are usually caused by location services or syncronisation errors on your Google account. Have you looked at your account sync status in settings? anything with an exclamation mark?
It might be something as simple as not logging into Chrome that's causing it to try and sync repeatedly, over & over, draining your battery. Turn Google sync off for a couple of days and see if the battery drain goes goes away?
Have you changed your password recently? I had this happen to me after changing my password, I had to delete my account, force stop play services, wipe data for play services, boot to recovery wipe dalvic/cache. When I rebooted phone I added account again with new password. Solved.
The location services bug seems to have disappeared since MM.
This isn't a rom problem
Well i actually don't agree. A lot of people are complaining that mm is worse than lp regarding battery life. The stamina mode in lollipop does wonderful things.
I first completely formatted my phone and then used flashtool to flash back to lp 5.1.1 and my battery life is perfect again

Why ask for help if you're going to just give up?
I am getting 4 days between charges on my MM build.
I actually already gave up on mm before I started this thread. I wanted to get rid of mm.
Are you using mm on a sony z3 compact? How much screen-on time do you get on a full charge then? On lp I easy get 4hrs plus with heavy usage. On mm I barely managed to get 3hrs with heavy usage
Every few hours the WiFi in my T713 would hang up. If I turn off the WiFi then it refuses to turn on until I reboot the tablet. Super annoying.
Google around, this seems to be a problem that had affected samsung devices since at least 2014, but none of the fixes I saw applied to recent versions of Android or the S2. Mostly the solution called for installation of a specific version of a Kit Kat modem.
Any suggestions? I am rooted but other than AdAway I am bone stock.
On a related note, how do I start a new topic with the XDA app on th T713? The bottom menu is gone and try as I might I dont see a "New topic" option.

try to flash latest official firmware for ur region then do a factory reset and check if the problem have been solved or not
There are a few threads about wifi problems. Try some of the suggestions there.

I am already at the latest T713XXU2APJ1_T713XAR2APJ1_XAR, currently re-downloading, will re-flash and try it again.
Factory resets are painful so will do it only if re-flashing does not solve the problem

I had done that and, as noted in the OP, everything is dated circa 2013-2014 when the problems seems to have first cropped up. The suggestions involve flashing a specific modem file, no way I am putting a 2014 modem on a 2016 firmware release. Will try YouTube.

None of this solutions helped me. The only thing that worked was going back to stock. Rooting seems to give my tablet problems with certain APs.
I decided to stay rooted and deal with the intermittent dropouts.

I *may* have fixed my Wifi issues. I remembered that a few days ago a dialog box came up offering to turn on power saving options via some built-in Samsung app. Sounded like what Greenify does so I said sure. I think my troubles started soon thereafter. This morning I disabled it and Wifi has worked without a hitch ever since
Settings -> Smart Manager --> Battery --> go down to "App power saving" section and click "Detail" --> turn off in the next screen
A day later wifi is still working. Anyone having WiFi issues should try turning off the Samsung per app power saving function
Okay I just turned it off, for I've been experiencing the exact WiFi issue lately.
I've the same model as you SM-713.
Fingers crossed.
