Hello, I've been looking around the threads but is there a way to install recovery (twrp/zxdual) in the concept Rom without unlocking the Bl? I'm not looking for root, just recovery. Also flashing zips with LB, will that show the system is comprised message? Thanks.

I've been doing a lot of reading and searching but still can't find a definite answer...
My understanding is that I need to root the device to flash a custom rom
But from the instructions for noobs, they don't usually specify that I have to root
I assume that rooting is a pre-requisite for everything...but then some roms advertise that they are rooted (for example, LeoFroYo)
So it the rooting process tied to the rom itself and I have to root everytime I flash a new rom (if the rom is not rooted)? Or is it universal like HSPL on WinMo?
Rooting is per rom. What is required to flash a custom rom is having an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery image. From there you can flash a pre-rooted rom.
The root instructions assume that you're gonna keep using the stock version with root abilities added on top. Whereas if you're using flashing something like CM, that already has root and OS tweaks.

Thanks! So does that mean when I get my phone out of the box, I have to root it once over the stock rom before I can flash any custom rom?
You need to root the phone originally and flash a custom rom. The "pre-rooted" means the rom is rooted. So if you flash that rom then you wont lose root. If you flash an un-rooted rom then you will lose it. So go through the steps and unlock your bootloader then flash a custom recovery image. Then decide which rom you wanted and flash it. All the custom roms are rooted.

That explains it. Thanks for your answer
one more question:
I take it as when bootloader is unlocked, there's no way to lock it again? Not even flashing the stock boot image?
No, once you unlock the bootloader, it stays unlocked.
Just to be clear here you don't _have_ to "root your phone once"
On _most_ phones you need an exploit to be able to get to the bootloader, this exploit is often referred to as rooting. After the exploit you generally have superuser access until you reboot, on some phone this may allow you to get at the bootloader and write anything you want there (E.G. an OS that give you superuser access at boot time)
However the N1 lets you issue the command "fastboot oem unlock" that unlocks the bootloader, from there you can flash a recovery image that will allow you to flash the main OS without having access to Google's release signing keys. Hence you _could_:
1. Bootloader unlock
2. Flash Custom recovery
3. Flash Custom OS
Without ever actually having "root" access, it just happens that most Devs prefer having root access available in both recovery and any custom rom they cook up.
Hi
I'm a newbie here. I have trawled thru 100's of posts in here and elsewhere. What I seek is a stock 14.3.A.0.761 ROM with stock kernel and full root. I know there's a recipe for creating custom ROMS, however those include a CWM, which I don't want, since a recovery means you can't relock the boot loader (or so I've been led to believe browsing around on the net and in here *S*).
So: Can anyone make that with a stock NCB 6903 ROM?
Also - to PhilZ and other geniouses/superheros in here - is it possible to make a temporary ADVANCED recovery which includes gives full (or close to full) root + contain the AROMA file browser?
/Dan
You trawled thru posts here, there and elsewhere and now what? You don't know a bit as you was nowhere and you did not read carefully because if you will do that, you also will know that there is not .761 rooted as the developers do not bother about a 1,8 MB update from .757 as it means they have to remake a whole ROM of 1GB just for 1,8MB.
The latest Stock Pre-Rooted ROM it's here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711982
To get to that Pre-Rooted (full Root) Stock ROM you have to do 3 steps, Downgrade to .534, Install lates Dualrecovery then follow the instructions from the link I posted from the line How To Update to .757
All for Locked Bootloader.
About Recovery, the recovery have 3 type of recoveries implemented, CWM, Philz and TWRP, I recommend TWRP for everything you do and forget CWM even if is there.
Doing Root your warranty will not be voided. There is no other way to get Full Root on your Phone and nobody will change stuff as you like.
Just do like I said and have a nice time with your Z1.

I find something what will interest you as you looking for NCB.
This should be Pre-Rooted Files to .761.

Follow the same steps of installation like on NUT thread form the Line How to Update.
Having a recovery does not stop you Relocking the bootloader. I don't know where you have read that, I have not read that anywhere and is completely untrue
EDIT
As you have said, there are instructions to make your own 761 pre rooted rom. Just follow those. If you do not want to include recovery then don't put those files in the system folder. But it will not stop you relocking the bootloader.
But wait, if you want to relock your bootloader, that implies its unlocked already, yes?
If so, why do you need a pre-rooted 761 ROM, just update to 761, then unlock your bootloader and root the phone. Done!

Hi guys I'm trying to find a recovery for my xperia z1, I just unlocked the bootloader but I cant find any recoveries or tutorials on how to install them, anybody have any ideas?
Thanks.
You'll find it here. Contains both CWM and TWRP, it's pretty neat.
Btw, there's no need to unlock the bootloader for that, you only need root.
Hi!
I have unlocked my bootloader a long time ago and mostly use AOSP-based roms, but I was wondering.... What is the easy way to root an unlocked Xperia Z?
Ik know there are a lot of threads how to root 4.4.4 on a locked bootloader and that I can use those methods, but it just feels like unlocked bootloaders should get a golden ticket to rooting stock roms.
So what makes an unlocked bootloader stand out? How do I root stock 4.4.4, unlocked-style?
Thanks!
Flash Dual Boot recovery with Philz Touch CWM Advanced Edition and TWRP, boot into recovery then flash a SuperSU zip. Done.

Follow above method or simply flash a custom kernel using flashtool.
Thanks!
As I don't hale enough posts to ask this in Development section under ROM trend, I'm creating new one.
So I used ViperX for a long time, but now I'm back to stock and also restored DRM keys. I've notced, that you can flash Marshmallow Concept without unlocking Bootloader. So why ViperX need to have unlocked BL? In fact it's just rooted Concept with some addons. Isn't it possible to install XZDualRecovery and then flash ViperX through this? Can anybody explain this to me?

Its not that easy bro xD
To make it short its because bootloader, if you re-lock it you need get invited or flash stock otas, which will mean no recovery (only the stock sony one, you cant Flash stuff only signed otas from sony) also you dont have no root in /system so you cant modify it.
If you unlock it your able to Flash a custum kernel which contains recovery, that means also that you can use customized roms, such as normal root and modify all partition, also you can get twrp recovery.
If you want all answered, read Sony Concept Initiative Thread from jenkins-84 on the last 10 sites theres allmost all your question answered.
