If the Nexus 5 has the same camera that's in the G2, It's a bad purchase. The camera in low light, indoors is piss poor to be blunt. I am looking to get out of my G2 for the N5 only if the camera is better.
only worse period

Likely poor camera, but also likely poor sound and certainly no radio, no SD and no battery replacement.
What's the point with these Nexus when you can buy a Samsung with all of that for that money now a days?
Speed? Unnoticeable. Always the last Android version? Well, the GalaxyNexus won't get KitKat. That's how far the updates go with the Nexus. 2 years.
I'm not buying it. At least until I find a reason.

You either buy a Nexus because you're a developer or because you want dev support. Sure, other devices get some decent ROMs, but Nexus devices always get the latest/greatest ROMs that leverage the newest iteration of the OS.

Where can you buy a brand new Samsung with all of that for $399.99 off contract??
Also the reasons are pretty damn simple, Price to Value its unbeatable, and you get the latest software first.
If price is of no conern there will ALWAYS be better phones.Hell the G2 is debatably a better phone in some aspects. It is only 1mm by 1mm smaller and the G2 has a .2" bigger screen with 800mah more battery.

Audio should be pretty much same across the board as it utilises Qualcomms DAC. Usually volume levels vary. However with Franco or Faux they implement sound boost on their respective kernels. Camera who knows too early to state as well as battery life. Storage is user preference. I've ordered one to test it out if I don't like it I will simply return it under DSR.

Seriously? Have you used a Snapdragon 800? I'm guessing not. The S3 is a slug, and TW was awful on the S3. (Yes I had one).
The speed difference is baffling from an S600 to the s800, just using the phone, let alone if you play mobile games. Battery life is also crazy. Comparing it to the Exynos 4 is just... well it is night and day.
And yes, this is a geek phone as well, with latest software and ROM options being far superior.
Anyway comparing an old MUCH lower specced phone like the S3 to anything modern is silly. You aren't JUST gaining a faster phone, there is a lot of other improved tech. Bigger screen, brighter screen, much higher DPI, BT4, Wireless charging, 802.11ac wifi, better camera features/stabilization, etc...

I really don't notice the difference in the screen between the S3 (720p) and the S4 or any other with 1080p. Some people do, I don't. The camera in the S3 and S4 (which I can find new for 380€) is superb, while the N5 is predictably a bit worse, even with the OIS.
Anyway, no phone is perfect. The sound in S3 and S4 is not so good either, the S4 doesn't have a FM Radio, the screens outdoors are very hard to see... hmm.
So about the camera...I took my kid trick or treating last night...With flash on, i'd hit the shutter button, the flash would come on and it was seriously focus for upwards of 8 secs before it took the pic. It was a crap shoot on whether you could make out the pic or not. Some guy said he's buying a phone, not a camera, but these companies are making phones so nice that a third party camera isn't needed unless you need a DSLR. Therefore, i rely on my phone cam.
Coming from the S4, the G2 camera is horrible at best at night. During the day it's great.
I have a g2 and it's the best smartphone camera I've used yet? Have owed most smartphones...including lumias. I have no idea what the hell you're talking about...piss poor?

the G2 is a great camera in daylight / still photos. I agree with him though personally I find it very poor in dark lighting or moving objects. HTC One was better in those 2 regards, but still day pictures the G2 slaughtered it.

3/12/14 [Discussion] Galaxy "F" Series to come in May... Metal, better specs.
And by surprise... I mean the announcement of the rumored "GS5 Prime". Metal build, 3/4 GB of RAM, 2K display etc... hey one can dream. But seriously do you guys think that this will happen and they announce the "Prime" or is the GS5 we saw, the GS5 we get?

It would be nice. But I doubt it. Why wait an extra month? Why just not introduce both phones at the same event? Samsung seems to think the S5 they announced yesterday is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
This is wishful thinking. There's no reason for Samsung to do that big launch event and not introduce all it's products. Maybe if the "S5 Prime" wasn't going to be ready for another 6 months, but then it's going to start bumping up against the next gen of phones so the release would be moot.

Idk about 6 months because the Note 4 will be released around then (around November or so). That's why I'm saying a month or so (by March/April).
I just refuse to believe that this is the best Samsung could come up with. Maybe they wanted to have something ready for Barcelona and decided to hold their true flapship phone not phablet back for their own big event.
If the S5 Premium exists it better offers at least 3 gig of ram, more PPI = 2k display and a less "glossy" look
I can't see this happening. The while one more thing Steve Jobs did once won't happen. I'm somewhat disappointed with the specs but I love the software gimmicks. This just solidified my plan to upgrade from my note 3 to the 4.

You really don't want a 2600 x 1400 display.
Most people are *****ing about the lack of high end specs. If you go the route of a higher resolution screen your really just taxing your battery and SoC and for what? Something that you need a magnifying glass to see? 1080p on a smart phone is more than enough. At least until power issues are solved.

that I totally agree with. the phone is pretty disappointing. .
Well now....
It "might" launch? I might skip it as well as the plastic version. Still a worthless upgrade unless your on an S2. Come on LG G 3....
And as for who else is expecting? The only thing I expect from them at this point is to be disappointed. I loved Samsung at one point. I own 2 TV's, 2 camera's, I"ve had the S2, Note , S3 , Note 2 , S4... No S5 for me after the locked bootloader crap.
If the rumors of Samsung lowering the retail price of the S5 hold true, then I would say that a premium "F" version is all but guaranteed.
Just my two cents.

The "P" or "F" or whatever series is set for a June launch (May announcement?) alongside with the Snapdragon 805 and Exynos 5/6 64bit and the QHD screen which has a low yield right now. No need to rush things, cause if the S5 kicks off like $100 cheaper than usual, a quarter of top sales should come handy before releasing the True New Flagship. Well the Note series is The Flagship nowadays for Samsung and I think they realized that people see it that way, which is why the new metallic nex-gen line-up to catch attention, but we'll see.
If I am Samsung, I would not launch a new phone for now. I rather save the metal build quality for note 4 now. I think it is going to disappoint existing S5 users.

Why should Samsung go full metal? The leather like back on the Note 3 is phenomenal. They aren't going to ditch one of their USP things just so people can show off their phone.
Other than that no doubt the Note 4 will come with topend specs, 5,7 inch should be enough to pack an octacore and qhd resolution into it.

As proven by the S 5 I think highend specs are way more interesting for the majority of the users. Beating the N 3 is not going to be an easy task Samsung absolutely nailed it and found a big niche market with this thing.

thr will be different edition of S5
like what happened for S4 (snap 600 to snap 800)
so it s possible for S5 from snap 801 to ... (maybe 805)
but different design from plastic to metal...! i don think so!
and I think Galaxy F series served for flexible feature.
and the F will get 2K, 3GB RAM etc...
:good:
Metal case is nice and all that, but if it means it won't have a removable battery, then I'm out.
Well, the Nexus 6 has been announced. These are in the same category. I have a decision to make.
http://www.google.com/nexus/6/
Unfortunately, we may not get reviews until after our return deadline on the Note 4.
Here is what I see as the benefits when comparing both phones:
Note 4 Benefits:
Spen
Potentially better camera?
More premium build quality?
Multi-window, which has been improved
Super AMOLED screen
SD Card
Removable battery
Nexus 6 Benefits:
Stock android, on time system OS updates (and potentially longer support lifetime)
Front facing dual speakers, potentially better?
Cheaper
Better google now hotword support?
Easier to root, unlocked bootloader
Likely smoother, less jitters and stuttering in the UI (some Note 4 reviewers are reporting stutters and jitters)
Cross carrier device, allowing you to jump around carriers, and giving a larger buyer base for resale
Currently unclear:
Battery life comparisons
Also, check out this error on the Nexus 6 page:
"13MP front-facing with optical image stabilization
2MP rear-facing"
Uh, that doesn't seem right.
My biggest concern with the Nexus 6 is the camera, since this is a Motorola made phone. I don't think there is any doubt that the Note 4's camera is better than the Moto X (2014)'s camera. Will that carry over to the Nexus 6?
Let me know if I've missed something in the comparison.
the price is stated at 649 so its not 400 cheaper

Physically, the Nexus 6 looks a lot like the current Moto X, with a front-facing speaker and mic, a metal trim and soft-touch plastic back. The Nexus 6 will come in Midnight Blue and Cloud White, and pricing starts at $649 off contract. The Nexus 6 will be available to pre-order starting late October, with general availability to come in November. Google says it'll be available on contract through AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon and U.S. Cellular.

It's $649 off contract. Its got no external storage either. She's a big sucker compared to the Note 4...
Nexus 6 - 159.3 x 83 x 10.1 mm (6.27 x 3.27 x 0.40 in 184 g (6.49 oz)
Note 4 - 153.5 x 78.6 x 8.5 mm (6.04 x 3.09 x 0.33 in) 176 g (6.21 oz)
Nexus devices have always had the "right" high-end components. How they hang together and things like how good individual features such as the camera and display are sometimes cause them to fall down competitively. We'll see after some testing's done how well Motorola did.
Competition is good.
It also looks like it's shipping with Moto's Turbo Charger so it should be roughly the same charging as the Note 4. No sign of an SD card though.
the NOTE 4 will be better...it has a much better camera, smaller size, s pen, and the history of nexus devices say that the speaker performance are not good...this does have 2 speakers...so i dont know...
Too big and ugly design, no thanks.

EDIT: I see that now. Removed from the list, as both have it.

Do you want the "purity" of something like a Mazda Miata or the "features" of a BMW 3-series convertible? Performance freaks and car guys would pick the Miata. Those more practical and in to convenience would pick the BMW. They're both good handling convertibles but appeal to different people for different reasons. Same thing applies here. The BMW outsells the Miata 15:1 even though it's more expensive BTW.

Well it's a theory that happens to fit the facts. On the product information page I linked it shows a picture of the charger which is identical to the one pictured here. Couple that with the charging speed and I think it's almost certainly the same charger.
That dual front facing speakers though. Not sure about the audio quality but I really miss the HTC One Max's speakers. IMHO all high end phones SHOULD have that.
Metal rim is a plus.
Now it is a decision over whether to give up S Pen features for Android L + Dual front facing speakers (provided superior audio quality).

I saw that and wasn't sure it's correct. I wonder who's making the panel? It's not Samsung or their Display Group CEO wouldn't have recently said this...
http://www.cnet.com/news/samsung-is-only-company-buying-subsidiarys-mobile-display-tech/
Going up against Samsung with an inferior AMOLED panel might turn out not to be a great idea on Motorola's part. The Note 4's panel is 14% more power efficient than the N3's 1080P panel. And DisplayMate crowned it "best mobile display" even against the iP6's. That's a tough party to crash.

If it's anything like the Moto X then it'll be a Samsung-made panel made on last year's process (so yes, inferior to the one we'd expect on the Note 4). Samsung do sell panels to other people, just not in volume.

lol, yesterday sammy released info in regard to the Galaxy S5 Plus, and they called it "worlds fastest smartphone".
see http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2014/10/21/new-samsung-galaxy-s5-plus/
inside is an downclocked 805 (2,5GHz instead of the 2,65 of Note4) and "only" 2GB of ram, so the device is for sure not faster as the note4 (perhaps more fps because of lower resolution though)!!
and it's only the fastest smartphone because note4 is considered a phablet, lol
Uhm no sorry it will be faster. It has the same CPU with the tiniest down clock yet has WAY less pixels to process. The QHD demands substantially more than 1080p. Also the added S-pen software takes up a lot of ram and resources which is why the note 3 and 4 need extra gig
what about resource hog touchwiz which can bog any processor down
Knowing Samsung it's purchase semantics. S5plus is a phone. Note is a phablet.

have you both read my OP?
i wrote that s5+ will probably have more FPS because of resolution, and i wrote that note4 is a phablet...
anyway, note4 is definitely faster in terms of processing power and so on, regardless of resolution or spen!
so it's pure marketing, as eddhard wrote!
btw.: a korean s5 variant has also QHD (which the s5plus has not, as butthurtlocker stated) and 3gig of ram,
but without spen...
I don't disregard your post I just missed the last two lines. My apologies.
I personally think the s5 plus will be faster over the note 4 due to the reasons I stated which i think are legit . The QHD s5 in Korea is Definitely not in the note 4 beasty league. But regardless the note 4 is and will be Samsung alpha wolf till the note 5 (maybe the s6). It's def the better phone over the s5 plus

Regarding the need for extra ram for s note, I wonder what effect the extra ram has on user interaction... curious if a phone, like nexus 6, would see any noticeable loss in performance if it had 2gb of ram rather than 3?

I really dont think on a Nexus that 3GB Ram is needed. The extra gig is needed for the enourmous software feature st of the note 4, it has a lot of added functinality sure but at the price of requiring resources. Nexus phones are stock, so lack the resource hogging feature set of Touchwiz or LG's UI for example. Also remember hearing Kit Kat was supposed to be even less of a rescource hog than JB so that older devices could run it efficiently. I wont if Lolliop has further increased this?

With these more powerful variatons of Galaxy S5, what are the chances do you think the Note 4 will get more powerful version down the line, say, in 6 months time? Maybe slim chance since Snapdragon 810 still won't be available even in 6 months time. Think I'll wait it out.

There are no "prime versions" of the Note series.
This is not Sony

With the Note5 taking a stepback from the Note 4 WRT removing Memory Card, no IR Blaster, Removable battery etc etc... And now the Note7 having faulty batteries that are smaller than the S7 Edge battery, no IR Blaster etc... I thought I'd start a Note 4 Appreciation thread where we can post what we like about our beloved Note 4.
I honestly thought I was going to get a Note 7, but with the delays, its had me looking and wondering why I want to upgrade when the Note 4 can still hold its own so well.
The Removable Battery has allowed me to extend my Note4's usage life, as I replaced battery at a low cost with another OEM one, and I plan on getting another just in case the S8 Edge and Note 8 disappoint, or until I find a TRUE Note4 upgrade.
Interesting that since 2014 not one OEM incl. Samsung can truly replicate the sheer prowess of the Note 4

This.
With a new battery, a new screen protector, a new case, and a factory reset after Marshmallow upgrade, this is like a new phone. I have zero problems, zero complaints, and zero reason to 'upgrade' to a phone that actually has less features. Sadly, I don't think the versatility of the Note 4 will be replicated any time soon, so I'm hoping to get another few years out of this one!
:good:
My N910C is working just fine, it does whatever I want it to do. It runs all my apps and games without any problems. I have a excellent case for it. All I need to do is get a Gear VR unit to try out the VR platform and wait for my replacement spare battery to arrive.
While I don't have the "zero complaint" part, still its needless to say Note 4 was the last practical mobile phone Samsung had ever released. I don't want a f***ing jewellery, but a mobile phone, where Note 4 ends.
For me the Note 4 is the best phone I have ever used. I considered uprgading to S7 edge but I dont find it that much of an upgrade to buy one. The Note still has a great camera which produces high quality pictures, for me only S6 got a better camera. The performance is great all games and apps are running smooth even in native resolution with Game Tuner. The screen is gorgeous and its pretty bright in sunlight. The removable battery, IR blaster and SD card are great companions. This device still dont have any true rival, atleast for me. Probably Note 8 will make me upgrade from my Note 4. I found that the best Notes for me are those with even numbers 2,4, maybe 8? So yes, Note 4, best device ever.
Must say, also appreciate the fact that the Note 4 is one of the last phones that is still durable without a dam case or cover.
The last Note that doesn't require protection.

I agree wholeheartedly, many people dont realize how useful it is to replace the batteries on the go, and the durability of the device is more than great I dont even use any cases since I bought it 2 years ago, alot of N7 owners had their back cover cracked in first week! I think samsung hit the ceiling with N4.
Note 8 should remove the back glass and give us removable battery if it wants to get back on track and give us a real reason to upgrade, I just bought GTX 1080 instead of N7 cause I know it well last me more than 2~3 years and it will be worth the upgrade from 580

Now that I have a 910c, I can honestly say this phone could have come out in 2016 and competed against anything on the market...
It's THAT good.
So happy I decided to get this one vs upgrading to a newer phone and just paying the higher depreciation for nothing

Yeah, the N910C can still hold it's own even against the modern flagships of today.
Get real guys, Samsung will never produce another Note with removable battery...you can bet on this.
I guess Samsung consider more important waterproof than removable batteries...and this definitely kills the removable batteries and external SD cards.
But, i got to say...this the best phone i've ever had...great quality construction, love the dark laterals with the silver edges, it's fast and has an amazing screen...
I don't intend trade for another Note, the problem it's to find a better phone, because speed it's not enough...
Well, I have had all the Notes (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) except for the Note 7...
Number 4 is definitely a beast among them. I owned the Note 3 chronologically, then I bought LG G4 (by mistake), then I had an annoying the Note 5. As soon as I sold the Note 5, I immediately bought the Note 4 and this, to my mind, was an upgrade over nubmer 5 rather than downgrade.
The Note 4 is the last galaxy device where engineers still beat marketing managers out.
The Note 5 and 7 is for those who are marketing-hypnotizable and realy don't have any motivation to change a device or dependent on figures (AnTuTu results, OS update figire, etc.)
Working as a charm, the Note 4 is a beast for practical people too.

I bought a Note 4 N910F about 3 weeks ago as I was looking for an upgrade. I had my eye on it for a while as it still has everything I need in a phone in 2016. Once a stable, fully featured Note 7 ROM is ported , this device will be given new life

This!!!!!
So happy I bought this phone recently as well
No doubt there are some promising new phones out but this one else puts a lot of them to shame
Samsung put everything they have into the Note 4 and it shows.
2 years later and it runs as if it just came out...no slow downs nothing
I recently bought a "as new" Note 4. My daily driver is a Lenovo Zuk Z1 running a stock CM12 out of the box.
Comparing both...difficult. The Zuk1 is fast, very fast and I have the feeling faster that the Note 4 running on a fresh MM.
Not even mentioning the huge battery in the Zuk.
I would be very tempted buying a Note 4 dual sim but I have learned that sim 2 slot on the Note 4 has limitations in 3g etc.
The Zuk Z1 dual sim has no limitations...I can swap the 3g function from one sim to the other, I can deactivate sim 1 or sim 2 separately something which is apparently no longer possible under MM.
Back to the Note 4, I love the design, the S Pen, the display...I agree that Samsung hit a home-run with this phone.
I bought a second Note 4 with a defective display...I will replace the display as this is still doable at home. Looked on youtube how to replace a display on a note 5 and here its no longer an easy task.
So the wife will soon have her Note 4, she still using a Note 2 currently...
The good thing is that the Note 4 has been sold in huge numbers so lots of spares to be found and cheap ones with cosmetic damage!

GTX 1080 FTW! I also upgraded from a 500-series card (570) and, wow, what a difference! I even upgraded my monitor to take full advantage of the 1080 GTX's power.
Back on topic, I love my Note 4 910C. Skipped both the Note 5 & 7. Only weakness is the camera, IMO, compared to more modern flagships.

It is still possible to make a device with a removable battery water resistant as Samsung has proven that it is possible when they released the SGS5 and SGS5 Neo. It's just that allot of people don't want plastic phones as they think they are cheap and want phones with a glass and metal sandwich construction as they feel that is more "premium".

I think the ISOCELL sensor on my N910C takes excellent shots and in some instances it takes better shots than the SGS6 and Note 5.

That is so true!
I was at least disappointed with vaunted LG G4 camera when it spoiled all my outdoor New Year night photos with lots of illumination in auto mode. Note 4 cam did it way better

The problem with the camera on the LG G4 is that the laser auto focus was always wondering around looking for a focal point. It could never get a good lock on a single focal point.
This thread really made my day. I just bought a note 4 yesterday and i am already in love with it.
