Finally got around to making a video of my Nexus 7 (2013) install in my 2003 Toyota Sequoia:
https://youtu.be/CjpAQHARNO0
I completely replaced the factory radio with the N7, and connected it to my factory JBL speakers and connected my steering wheel controls (including the Mode button) with a Joycon.
The only thing left is to get phone audio to work through the N7, when placing or receiving calls (folks can hear my through the amp mic but I can't hear them). Supposed to be an android limitation...but there's got to be a solution. For now, I just don't take calls when driving. So far, that's been a win!
How do you think it will hold up on hot days under extreme heat?

hi guys, i removed the battery from my nexus 7, i put it in the car directly from cig lighter charger. the screen sometimes goes fully black, then other times it goes all white or green and the only solution is to remove the power source, wait a bit and plug it back in. what can cause this? if i plug it into the charger at home, i don't see this happening. i left it on charger during the whole night and in the morning it was still running. i tried it with a power bank and the result is the same, it goes crazy...

I had the same issue. but can not tell what's triggering it. Together with charging playing music and running a navigation app (google nav does not work in my location) I run yandex maps to see traffic jams. So it could be maybe one of the apps hanging the phone. I'm pretty sure I was on one of CM 6 versions. Or it could be overheating.
Do not see it lately on 6.1 N1 stable. for about 2 to 3 month its stable.
Out of curiosity, how many shiny bands (broken by black indentations) are on the plug that you're inserting into the device? The Nexus (and many modern smart phones + media devices) are designed for a 4-banded plug to accommodate remote functions (play/pause, volume up/down, etc). Standard audio cables only have three contacts on the plug. If the three-contact plug isn't sitting just right and shorts out some of the contacts inside the phone, all sorts of screwy things can happen - and I suspect this is what you are experiencing.
Hello all.
I am trying to make the media control buttons work like this guy did.
Google search for "wisebread android" you will see the link I mean.
He took a 4 pole headset plug and bridged the 4th and 3rd conductors with different valued resistors.
I have tried to replicate that on the LG Revolution. All i get is pause/play.
It doesn't seem to rewind or fastforward.
From 0-855(ish) ohms. it will always activate play/pause.
had anyone else tried this? I get the same thing on the Droid 2 (A955).
You can experiment with a spare Camcorder cable and cut off RCA Jack from an RCA extension cable or cut off female-female cable.
Left is White
Right is Yellow
Mic is Red
No one has tried this ?
Nothing.?

So I picked up an HTC 3 button headset. It has forward, back, and play. Unfortunately, both beyondpod, stock music and Google play music respond to the headset as play or pause for all 3 buttons. I was about to close the case on this. I was going to write it off as not having the capability in hardware.
This was until I was in a phone call, and less forward or back to drop the call. To my surprise, it didn't.
Maybe this handset just needs some code to work.

Hey just bought a Kenwood X395 head unit for my 2003 ford focus.
Have everything installed but for some reason every time I shut the ignition off it will reset the stereo settings.
I triple checked all my wires and they are hooked up in the right places, I bought a wire harness and the cables are label as well ( like red is ignition and yellow is battery) I am a little lost Here.

Just a question here. Are you actually running the yellow all the way to the battery or are you tapping into a hot wire? If tapping in the hot wire, is it hot when the ignition is off? It should be.
Where did you get the wiring harness? Have you checked to see if it is pinned out correctly? There is a chance that it may be pinned out incorrectly.
So I've replaced my stock Navigation system in my '09 Mazda 6 with a 2nd gen Nexus 7.
I bought a used one off ebay because it didn't matter to me if the case/cover was banged up or not as I was planning on building it into the dash. The Nexus fits pretty well in the 2-din opening of the aftermarket panel I got [American International brand kit# MAZK860]. I used a Minisuit-X TPU case to help hold the tablet in place. The case creates a raised frame around the screen and makes it easier to locate the screen from the back of the 2-din panel. Notches needed to be cut in the sub-frame piece of the din kit for the USB connector and headphone jack, but other than that very little modifications were needed. I used a piece of PVC perforated sheet to hold the tablet into the din plate. The perforations in the sheet made it easy to cut out notches and holes with side cutters and achieve the shape I wanted without having to make a mess using a dremel.
For audio, I had purchased a Syba SD-CM-UAUD DAC but had trouble getting it to work right so I am now just using a 3.5mm 4-pin splitter to 3.5mm headphone/mic jacks. I have a JK MIC-J 044 lapel clip microphone stashed behind a small vent in the upper console panel and wired a headphone jack into the harness [Metra 70-7903]. I know some people think the DAC is far superior but I found the headphone jack audio output good enough for me and running it through the stock Bose amplifier in my car sounds excellent.
I'm also using a Joycon EXR to capture steering wheel controls and an EasyCap Dc60 to capture video from my KS1 dual channel dash camera. The camera is set to show the rear view for the video out so I can use it as a back-up camera on the tablet.
My first time installing the tablet worked ok. I had a few problems including the steering controls not working (except Volume down) and the battery wouldn't stay charged enough, forcing me to remove the tablet and charge it every other week. The Easycam also wouldn't work and flash drives wouldn't load right. The Joycon, Easycap, and flash drive issues were due to the $2 4-port hub I got free with something. I tried an Amazon Essentials hub too and it had an intermittent short. A 4-port Insignia hub from Bestbuy did the trick and everything is working now.
I did rebuild the harness last weekend because I wanted to get the Li-Ion battery out of the hot dash. Even though this setup was working ok, when it's 90-plug degrees outside, the tablet will shut itself off and boot-loop until it cools down. I decided to replace the battery with a 12V to 4.2V DC Step-Down regulator. I got an extra battery from ebay and remove the tiny controller board. I had read where other people just replaced the battery with a power supply and were getting odd messages from the tablet about how it was at 0 volts and wouldn't sleep or update properly. So, I used the battery control board and it reports the battery level to the tablet (usually around 90~95%).
The only issue I am having with the power is that when I start the engine, either the power is dropping too much or the car kills power to the radio harness and then I have to wait for the tablet to restart.
To fix this, I plan on using a capacitor to try and keep the tablet powered while the car is starting.
I do need some help. Though I have removed the Li-Ion battery, the overheated tablet will still shut down and boot-loop until it cools down. Is there a way to program it to ignore the temp. sensor? If not, does anyone know where this particular sensor is so I can replace it with a fixed resistor and make it think it's always room temp?
Questions, comments, and ideas welcome!

I haven't been on any trips yet, but I did test it on the ride home from work and it works well; picks up the GPS signal well. I just used Google Maps navigation for it and I input the directions using "OK Google".

My phone seems to have touchy connection with the 3.5mm Jack. When I plug it in in my truck it won't hold a connection. If I'm using headphones when I bump the phone or set it down it pauses and if I tap the back near the top again it'll play. Sometimes with the cord in Google Now opens when the back gets tapped. I hear a small rattle around the area too. Not sure if it's related. Is this some stupid accessibility feature? Help? I just got this phone yesterday

I know this thread is kind of old but did you ever get this issue figured out? I'm experiencing the same thing. I even disabled the Google search app hoping it would fix it, and the Google voice search prompt no longer pops up, but it still pauses and skips tracks with any light bump (at least while using Spotify).
It's very annoying and even kind of dangerous that I have to keep messing with it while I drive. Thanks for your time.

It is very annoying and no I really haven't found a solution. I now only use headphones when I'm sitting still. I have found that some cords seem not to be effected by this problem but I'm not sure why. I have tried different brands and styles to no avail. The only thing I ever read about this was that on M8s people put rubber o- rings on their headphone jacks because it was shorting on the metal housing. Obviously not the issue here because the 626s is plastic, but perhaps worth a try? Let me know if you find a solution
I can tell you I don't have this issue. I am using some headphones that came with my LG 8 years ago lol and an aux from the dollar store. Haven't tried anything else.
I have some trouble with my headphone/aux port too, but not quite like what you all are describing. I'm also using one of the AdvancedStock images from Sandix, so I wasn't certain if that had something to do with it (although I doubted it). I have a cheap but sturdy aux cable in my car that connects to my phone (this cable worked flawlessly with my last phone). When I plug it in, the phone recognizes a cable is plugged in, displays the right icon in the notification bar on the top and the sound works properly (going to the car) for a few seconds. During this time I hear some clicks passed through from the phone. After a few seconds the clicks stop and the phone changes back to as if no cable is plugged in (no icon, sound goes out phone speakers). I then have to unplug the cable and re-plug it back in to repeat the process. Finally after 2-4 tries it sticks and the aux cable stays working. At no point is the connection touchy; in that if I move the phone, shake the cable, whatever, the connection stays the same. I recently learned if I plug the cable in slowly, the phone things I have a headset with a microphone plugged in (this is not that kind of cable; it does not have the third microphone connection). It still does the clicks thing, but when it stops, the aux connection is still working fine, every time. I have not tried it with a normal set of headphones/earbuds yet or an actual earbud-with-mic set.
Noticed with case seems to not do it as much. With mine I have to twist cable to get it to work. There seems to be certain spots that it stays playing but sometimes finicky
