My current setup:
Rooted Fire 7 (5th Generation)
Fire OS 5.1.1
Play Store added
I am content for the most part with the setup I have but the default setting in FireOS, for battery purposes no doubt, is to kill the wifi connection or put it to "sleep" after the screen has been off for 15 or so minutes. This would be fine if I didn't want to listen to streaming music for more than that long but that is where I am at. FireOS doesn't have the wifi advanced settings of turning off the sleep option, I have also made sure smart suspend is off, I am kind of at a loss right now in regards to finding anyone out there in a similar situation that has posted about this. Anyone have insight as to what can be done? I genuinely use the Amazon services (kindle/audiobooks/newspapers) as intended so I am really trying to avoid a custom/stock android ROM if I can.

My rooted NC 1.1 has stopped reconnecting automatically to my wifi network after sleep. It had been working fine for a while so I am not sure what changed. To get it to reconnect I either need to toggle the wifi on/off or select the network using wifi settings. After that it is fine. If I just put it to sleep and turn it back on after a minute or so it connects fine. The problem occurs after several minutes (say 10) of sleep.
I have deleted all my network connections, rebooted and then connected to my network with no change. Again this had been working fine in its current state.
I then reimaged it to a known working 1.1 image using CWR but the wifi issue remains.
This is more nuisance then anything else but it sure is annoying.
Look forward to any suggestions since I dont know what else to try.

same problem here, sometimes it works but after waiting too long it doesn't reconnect. I think after being asleep so long it just fails to refresh/rescan. Kind of silly they dont have a rescan/refresh button in the wifi settings...
You can try going into Settings/Wireless/Wifi Settings/hit the menu again and go to Advanced, set the sleep option to Never. This helps but it still shuts off the wifi after being locked for a few minutes.
The fix I use is called "SoftLocker Free" in the market. This basically prevents it from sleeping, but still allows the screen to turn off. It draws more power from the battery since the wifi stays on, but I've had good luck with it.
Strange question, but do you have AT&T? I've seen a ton of folks with non-rooted nooks have this issue on the official Barnes and Noble forum, all with Uverse.
No i am not using att.
Thanks for the tips so far.

ZTE blade has a similar issue, there's a couple of workarounds.
1. Keep the device awake when screen is off (holds wifi connection but uses battery power)
2. Automatically toggle wifi when you turn the screen back on.
I've made an app that does (1.) when you leave wifi on and turn the screen off. (similar to softlocker, but it automatically grabs the lock when wifi is left on and has other features). Search for "Advanced wifi lock"
If you want (2.) grab "Blade wifi fix".
This seems to be common among Android devices judging by the sheer volume of WiFi fix and Wifi lock applications in the market. Now, we just have to figure out which one works better with NookColor. Free would be better of course
Mine does it as well - WiFi on after waking up. Can stay awake for 10 minutes not connecting, bus as soon as I'll go to wireless settings, I can see it obtaining IP immediately. I also noticed it goes away from time to time and comes back by itself.
Hello,
Here's too question : First, I've seen, in BetterBatteryStats i think, that you could see how long wifi has been on AND ALSO how long it was working (meaning receiving/sending). Cause the "wifi on" stat is always at 100% even though in advanced options i've set it to sleep after i put the device to sleep.
Second, at every boot in status bar i see "Currently checking media" but i don't understand that, since this is internal memory, and since the system has started already, why the hell it's doing this before loading everything? And also it takes at least 5-10seconds before it's starting doing it... All that take more than 20seconds...
Last thing, i saw in Android battery usage "Wifi sharing", what is that exactly?
Thanks!
In order:
The WiFi sleep seems to work intermittently. I stopped using that and use Llama to turn off my WiFi 1 minute after screen off. Tasker will be able to do this too, I believe. It works very well, and I can even set it not to turn off if certain apps are running, like Internet radio.
Media checking is something that happens. It is a good thing. It gets lists of all media files so you do not have to search when loading most apps. If charging while off, I normally leave the Note plugged in until all searches are done, and then another minute or two to reach 100% battery when I boot.
WiFi sharing is a leech on your battery, unless you happen to want to share your WiFi. It was one of the first items I blocked once I rooted the phone. You need Root to block, disable or remove this.
Thanks for all that, but there're things i don't get : 1/ Are you saying that "turn after screen's off option" is useless/defective? And why you tell me to use tasker (not free) if Llama (free) can do the job? 2/ Do not have to search what? And why telling you keep the note plugged 2min after Media Checking? 3/ Wifi Sharing app (the trouble maker) is not android tether function, right? If so, in which app does it share wifi? As said, i tried to freeze it with Titanium but it kept loading. I don't like Freeze with Anttek cause there's still an icon app in my Folder Organizer widget (which list all apps icon on a screen).
PS: I really wanna find back the app where was displyed the info i mentionned in 1st post (see when wifi's working and not just when it's on)
1. Yes, I think the WiFi sleep function is defective. Just my view. Llama does the job much better, which is why I suggest it. It does a great deal more too, which is also why I suggest it.
2. The media search operation is searching for all media. This is music, photos and videos (not sure what else, if anything). Once completed applications do not have to look at your SD card every time they open to search for media. This makes the apps faster and saves battery. Ignore the rest of what I said.
3. I do not know if WiFi sharing is the Tether function. It certainly seems like it could be. If it is frozen by Titanium it should not be starting. I have no idea why it does.
I rooted my kindle fire 7 2 and ever since it won't go into sleep mode screen just stays on. have been search but did not see anyone with that problem. any fix for this.

MisterSir69,
This is an odd problem. What method did you use to Root the Kindle? Once you give us this information
maybe I can back out what happened. Let's give you a little information that may help solve the problem.
What keeps the Kindle awake is either touching the screen or an application that has a "keep alive"
feature. A good example of Keep alive, it when we install remote access software on a customer computer
we always tell the software to not allow Windows to go to sleep so we can access it and perform
maintenance at night. Did you install some software after you Rooted the kindle? What software
did you install?

MisterSir69,
What I would do is install a solid Process Manager like Android Process Manager, then reboot the Kindle, wait
about 5 minutes, do not do anything on the Kindle for 5 minutes. Then open the Process Manager and see
what is running. Then kill one by one until the Kindle falls asleep. I would set the Display Sleep Timer at
the lowest setting so you do not have to wait long between each process.

MisterSir69,
Great work MisterSir69! I knew you would be able to figure out which service was causing you trouble.:good:
Yes, we have seen wallpaper, specifically live wallpaper, disable the sleep mode on Android devices.
This is a real bug, when you have time send the results to the developer, if you know the source.
You can usually find the developers contact information in Google Play.
I'm having issues with streaming Google Play Music through my Chromecast using my Moto G 2014 (US). It connects fine and streams fine - until the phone goes to sleep during the song, and it refuses to play the next song. I have to wake the phone up and press the Next Track button on the lock screen to play the next song in the playlist.
Has anyone else experienced this?
"Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" is set to "Always"
Have tried with Wi-Fi optimization both on and off
Chromecast, router, and phone have all been restarted multiple times
No issues streaming GPM through the Chromecast with a Galaxy S4
Any ideas on other settings I can try changing? Any other thoughts? From what I can tell, the phone isn't killing Google Play Music due to low memory, as the album art is still on the lock screen after I wake the phone up.
Oh, and if I wait until close to the end of a song and turn the screen off, it goes to the next song as expected. It seems to be going into a deeper sleep at some point during the song.
I haven't yet rooted the phone, as I'm hoping to wait for a root exploit that won't require bootloader unlocking / warranty voiding. But if someone has experienced this specific issue and fixed it using a root-only tool, I have no issues rooting.
Hmm...I found a Tasker rule that might have been causing this, although that same exact rule has been running on my Galaxy S4 for months without issue. I'll have to see over the weekend if that was the cause. For reference, I had Tasker turning Sync off 5 minutes after the screen was turned off. Maybe the Moto G relies on Sync for Chromecast functionality while the S4 doesn't?
Your's may or may not be the same problem but have a read of this http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/help/delayed-receiving-notifications-t2886343 (3rd post same problem) if it's the same issue you may also be having problems with notifications coming through are delayed.

Thank you! I tried to search for other reports of this issue, but didn't come across that thread. Looks like Motorola's aware of the problem, and is requesting bug reports so they can track it down: https://forums.motorola.com/posts/6abbf8f24b?commentId=819028#819028
Please excuse me if this has been covered elsewhere BUT!
I have just bought a fire 10 hd to use as a photoframe to display my Google photo albums. I'm using Fotoo which is able to schedule start & stop times, the stop works fine and afterwards the tablet goes to sleep but it will not switch on again. This worked in Jan 2022 but stopped sometime later in the year so I assume amazon have removed something within the OS that enables this.
I've looked for anything that could help in settings but there is nothing and I've tried various task managers but they seem to suffer the same problem so I just wondered if anyone here might have a solution or work around?
For anyone searching for a solution to this the issue is with the Fire OS removing some std os features around Nov 2022, however, you can get round this using the Fire Toolbox found on this forum
