Upgraded to 6.01 and reset to factory settings needed? - Galaxy Tab S2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello! I have received the update to Android 6.01. In case that I need to reinstall the tablet and select "reset to factory settings", will it reset Android 6.01 to zero or will it switch back to Android 5?
I am just curious.

6.0.1. But it'll wipe it like you just pulled it from the factory box.

Device status is "Modified" even when I've never rooted it.

Hey guys,
I'm using a stock S3 LTE (i9305) from my carrier and my device status is "Modified" even though I've never attempted to root it and can't run rooted apps. Can you guys please go Settings -> scroll down to About device at the bottom -> Status -> scroll to the bottom and check whether your "Device status" is Normal or Modified?
I've not flashed any roms nor rooted but it says modified for me. When I tried checking for updates it says my device has been modified. Strangely it occasionally reverts to "Normal" after a reboot. Just wish to see if anyone else has this problem.
There is also no triangle that appears during the boot up sequence. Is my warranty void?
Thanks!
From memory I think this is normal!
Mine (Australian Telstra i9305T) says "Normal" I'm afraid. Maybe the warehouse boyz got to yours
even though you are not rooted , Did you install CWM ?
I'm from Portugal, and I have the same... And when I try search for software updates I have this error

Hi,
Mine also appears as "Modified"
Country: Portugal
Carrier: TMN
I Would assume that this is due to Carrier modifications to add their bloatware. But then again maybe not.
risinhux: I guess you are talking about the error: Your device has been modified. Software update are not available.

My phone is not rooted as well and it's currently running on jelly bean 4.1.1. I have never rooted my phone ever but when I clicked software update in the setting, it doesn't allow me to and it says device is modified. What should I do to update my phone?
Thanks in advance. =)

Same issue here with Samsung GT-I9305 Swisscom Branded. After a reboot the "modified" is back to "Normal" and you can update.
Swedish Tele2 operated Phone here.
Mine is normal - I guess it has been said before, your operator might have modified it
Call them and ask.

I can confirm that a factory reset restores the status from modified back to normal.

I have just tried a new method on my rooted gti9305t to check for an ota update without having to factory reset the device.
*go into settings, then apps.
*tap on the tab that says 'all' and scroll down to google services framework.
*tap 'clear data', and then 'force stop'
After this process when you go back to software update it should check for the update, it worked for me.

No dice
T-Mobile Note 2 (SGH-T889, v4.1.1, Build number JRO03C.T889UVALL4, Baseband T889UVALL4, rooted),
Clearing data / force stop had no affect:
Your device has been modified. Software updates ate not available
(Being rooted, well yes, it is "modified“, but it's worth a try).
People, I solved my problem: D
I used the Triangle Away
Don't look for a fix, you should be able to get a new phone from your Telco, I wouldn't accept a pre-used device

[Q] Lollipop OTA update notification problem

Hi all,
So I have a Moto G (2nd Gen). I received the OTA update sometime early Feb. We were the first to receive it in India.
So one day it started updating via my data pack and mid-way the data pack got over and the update was halted.
Restarted the phone and I saw that it was still in KitKat 4.4.4.
I tried manually checking for the update but all I get is this message "Last checked for update at hh:mm:ss" where the hh:mm:ss is the current time.
I tried restarting, force restarting the phone but I still can't get the OTA update message. Can someone please help me.
My phone is unrooted and runs the stock android
Thanks
Purav
Try to clear cash in settings , also reboot in recovery and clear cash partition and go to settings/app/all and find motorolaota app and clear cash.Try after that.

Yes, it is a good advice to clear Cache on recovery first.
But one sure way for you to get the OTA file again is to do a factory reset, but with that you will have to reinstall all of you apps and do the configuration all over again.
Keep in mind, if you root the phone, or change the recovery, the OTA update will not get installed at all, even if it being downloaded.

Phone slow after 5.0 update

Hello,
After updating my Moto G2/2014 to Android Lollipop (5.0), the phone has become very slow and almost unusable. Any idea what I can do besides rooting it and flashing a new ROM?
Thanks,
Crazysah
Have you tried a factory reset?
I'd recommend cm12.1 if you do go for a custom ROM.
Sent from my Moto G 2014
Yep. Tried a factory reset with no luck. Asked a few friends and they are having the same problem as well.
Find out about how to wipe the cache partition via the boot loader - that should help.

Well, to speed things along, I would try turning on "force GPU rendering" under your developer options. You can also try turning off WiFi while the screen is off.

[Q] My Pure Edition has Insomnia w/ the 5.1 OTA

I have a Pure Edition that I recently updated to the 5.1 OTA but I'm having problems with the screen never auto-sleeping.
Easy Stuff:
I have it set to sleep at 2 minutes and my dev setting for always-on-while-charging is turned off. This behavior happens whether it's charging or not.
History
Phone is Unlocked
It was running the first 5.1 Soak Test (i.e. the one that couldn't directly run this OTA)
I downgraded to the 5.0 factory image
After the downgrade, it immediately picked up the OTA and installed without a single visible problem.
I did a factory reset (via settings menu) just to start from a clean slate once on the 5.1 OTA image.
It is still unlocked but I have never rooted/modified this 5.1 OTA. I want it stable before I mod anything. I even still have stock Recovery.
So my assumption is that given that the 5.1 OTA image installed successfully, that's proof that I did a proper/complete downgrade to the 5.0 image. Is this correct?
Any other thoughts on what to look to before starting down the downgrade/wipe/etc. path again? I spoke to a friend who also has a Pure Edition that just went to the 5.1 OTA and he's not having no problem at all like this.
I'm really just guessing here but perhaps it could be an issue with attentive display. Maybe try turning it off to see if it will turn off.

Which method to upgrade to 5.1.1 OTA/PC companion

As the title states I'm not sure which method to use to upgrade my Z3 Compact to 5.1.1 This morning I woke up to the OTA notification on my phone but I was not sure if there are any pros/cons/differences in upgrade method.
Also whenever I upgrade the OS of any phone I like to factory reset... although this time Im not quite sure which is better. Factory reset before upgrading to 5.1.1 or after the 5.1.1 upgrade.
I sure both of these were touched upon in the 5.1.1 thread but I dont have the stamina to re-read through the entire 40+ pages of content in that thread, so I do apologize.
Just update via ota/pc companion. OTA would obviously be faster. Unless you run into issues, there's no point in factory resetting. If there is, reset after the upgrade
